You may have noticed, if you have two eyes and a brain, that the sentiment for GW has shifted to largely negative in recent years. Constant price hikes on products that have not largely increased in production costs and were being sold at quadruple digit percent profit margins. Rattlecans filled with more propellant than paint and glue bottles cutting in size but increasing in price and a massive shift to turning their products into simplified, competitive games. This had the diehard heavy user enthusiast upset for a few years now but in the last year even their light user who would splurge on fomo big box releases but little else every other year have soured. To the degree for the first time since covid the stocks for GW are being shorted and losing value rather than growing. Internally this has been expected for a while and in the last quarter there has been a massive internal shift around products. Necromunda rpg for example was shut down not because of some Cursed City style printing issues but because leadership asked why print another Necromunda product line when they already have on they can put that time and resources into. The recent Space Marine cull was symptom of this internal shift. Seen as a painful but necessary step to rework away from the "T-Sports strategy" that has alienated existing customers and not brought in the competitive tabletop game in the numbers it was intended to. After Christmas and starting largely in 2027 we are going to see a massive shift in GW to try and rebrand Warhammer as a whole back to a hobby and livestyle product over competitive toy lines. Wether this will move the needle is anybodies guess as players are leaving in not insignificant numbers for newer games like Starcraft or Gundam Assemble.

What builds do you consider overpowered in D&D/Pathfinder? I have found that an archer with the Sharpshooter feat is extremely powerful in D&D. All you need is a longbow and a single feat and you can kill anything within 600 feet of you. It basically invalidates any non-boss fight as long as it isn't an ambush.

If you utilize quantum ogres or railroad your players along adventures you devised, then you are a god awful DM, you probably should just throw in the towel, become a player yourself and let another DM other than you force you along their storyshitting writing exercise. RPGs are meant to be played, they are supposed to be fun for players and the DM alike, they aren't supposed to be stage plays you've committed to during a first fucking draft. The only pure RPG experience is one of the sandbox play variety. You set out plot hooks, adventure hooks, what-not, and you let your players PLAY and you adjust your creations to form fit your group. If you aren't playing real RPG with your players, you're fucking up. It's the only way to be. >I do something else blah blah blah and my players love it Your players are retarded, and it's up to you to fix that, iteratively, one adventure at a time. Your campaign sure cure them of that dumb ass shit. Full stop. Even when you know your group you should be inventing adventures they probably wont engage with an throwing those curve balls, because no matter how smart your friends (I assume they are your friends at this point) are, they still might not know there's a type of situation or a context of an adventure they're unfamiliar with might be super cool and fun. I could go on and on about how to be a better DM, and my first suggestion for everyone on /tg/ is to not assume I want you to either play D&D or another system, you stupid fuck.

How can I roleplay war games and battles alone all by myself? It's somehow either got the budget or interest enough that you have the means to pick any Voice Actor to play your character and give them the voice you've always envisioned them having. >In my late 40s, I came back to the hobby I'd left three decades previously and I had a blast with 5E. I still do, in an ongoing campaign. There's a lot about the mechanics I admire, but I do share several of my gaming generations' hesitations about the system. The power level is considerably higher than my druthers, not even so-called epic fantasy, but Tolkien-inflected Justice League. Of course, there's always been class roles, but in 5E, the rules and multi-classing methods, the notorious dip, and the stacking, branching abilities lend themselves and lean in not just to power gaming and min-maxing, a way of playing that's always left me as cold as a frost giant, but more generally to a drab and wrote build culture, strongly influenced by video games, for which left field choices, eccentricities, surprises, let alone randomness, are, broadly speaking, discouraged. Just look at the widespread hate for the Wild Magic sorcerer by some way, the most interesting class in 5E. And to be clear, of course, I'm delighted for you if you don't play the game that way, and I'm also delighted for you if you do play it that way, and you love it. I'm not the cops. I'm not lawful. But this is how the implied rule culture of 5E sits with me. And along with that evolution came an epochal shift in aesthetics. Look at the modern illustrations. Again, your mileage may vary, and Godspeed to you. But for this grumpy old man, the pastle garishness of 5e images, the glitz and schmaltz, the weird superposition of epic, kitsch, twee, heroic and cozy, does very little. Do you agree?

It's insane how faggy modern d&d is. Check this official artwork for instance. Does that appear to be a band of hardened treasure hunters? They're more akin to a Fortnite style band of Marvel capeshit characters where a lesbian orc female spouts off le epic badass one-liners. Dnd is now officially about doing goofy shit and never failing. Officially at least, all seriousness has been ground out of the game. Thank god d&d was designed from the ground up to be completely homebrewable. You just know WoC would ban homebrewing if they could somehow enforce it, so you can buy their bland modules.

Anyone been following War with a Mate? It's a pair of guys playing War for North Africa in its entirety. They say it should take them 20-30 years. They've done a trial run which took 18 months, spanning 6 turns. There's 111 in the full game, and they're starting as of next week. Brother & Sister In Arms Edition

Mage Knight: The Apocalypse Dragon Super disappointing expansion. No new advanced actions, relics, spells, artifacts, units, or monsters. Quests are horribly designed. Not good for competitive scenarios. Most are too easy and give to good of rewards. Others are just blanks in competitive due to the ability to snipe the quest completions. New MK to play is nice but the skills are badly designed. Some are overpowered and some are useless so the character is feast or famine. New dragon boss is not random enough and very easy to plan for. 4 horsemen should have been designed to be usable in the normal monster pool for use in all scenarios. New adventure sights are the only things I like.

I would like to talk about Godbound again. Specifically, I would like to talk about the gift Azure Oasis Spring. Godbound is a game I have played for nearly a decade by now. More so than any other RPG I have ever played, and I do not say this lightly, Godbound is the one game I have seen suffer from major rifts between the GM's expectations and the players' expectations (or at least, my expectations). In the default setting, this is a very new phenomenon. It is up to the GM to determine how many NPC Godbound there are (if any at all). In other words, whatever the PCs are doing has not been done before, because there have been no demigods like them in the past. The default setting is a fantasy world that is, all things considered, very awful for the average person to live in. There are no massive empires, although one militaristic nation has the pomp to call itself one. The tech level is "roughly equivalent to late medieval Europe," though one isolated nation has modern-day technology and computers that function nowhere else. The PCs have the power to change the world. They can accomplish such with a mix of lesser gifts and greater gifts for on-screen usage, and resources called Influence and Dominion for downtime purposes. The book dedicates several pages to a section called "Changing the World," outlining this.
