The boomercuast is becoming kind of depressing. Dragon bait, Gripping Beast ect ect are all retiring. That means we are going to be stuck with millennial and zoomer garbage post World of Warcraft sculpts from now on.
Thank fuck, blobby lead garbage has been infecting estate sales for too long.

>>98895764So, you think nobody will pick up the moulds to make more miniatures?
>>98896395I hope they do. Something about epoxy just gives life to miniatures. Red Box games hand sculpted shit for example just looks more alive than his digital
>>98895764>the old metal models are going away never to be resold againBy chance will these old metals be able to be "archived" as STLs in the way abandoned computer games/software gets archived as abandonware? Or is that not gonna happen any time soon because not enough people care/those who do don't have the money/those who do don't have retard proof scanners that produce result where cleanup in Blender or other software isn't necessary?
>>98899399It won't happen because the kind of people who sell and buy metal minis think digital is the work of the devil and/or are greedy faggots who think their rotting lead collection has monetary value which they want to protect even if that means eventually all their "art" is lost forever.
>ec tetera
>>98895764I got a Facebook ad for an estate sale and saw the High Elf army of a dude who taught me WHFB in 2001.
>>98899472>digital is the work of the devil I'm they are not wrong. Making rocks things while electrocuting them is rather a strange technology>are greedy faggots who think their rotting lead collection has monetary valueThat is more of the issue, but then again I've seen younger folks thinking their funko or vacuum cleaner will hold value in the future. The vacuum is particular strange because it is not even a good vacuum
>>98899399The oldhammer community actually seems pretty receptive to stl archives, the hobby grade scanners just aren't great right now
>>98899399It's a good idea, but it's a niche of a niche. There's a few dedicated Telegram communities (which are justifiably paranoid) and there's Old School Archive, which is opt-in by manufacturer and slowly growing.
>>98900388>Telegram communities (which are justifiably paranoid)I got tired of telegram because the groups get deleted rather regular. Since the entire thing is a secretive mess I'm not too terminally online to keep up with the groups.
>>98895764Oh man I really like those Chaos Wars Amazons.
>>98900388>Telegram communities (which are justifiably paranoid)I hate that. What I hate the most is that the digital degrading dicksucking I have to do to get into those groups is actually justified. Do you know any by chance? Just make sure the answer is in the /3dpg/ encryption(s) they use over there, please.>and there's Old School Archive, which is opt-in by manufacturer and slowly growing. That gives me some hope. Thank you. I just remembered "Older Miniatures" I saw some buzz about them allegedly using AI to generate their models. Or AI to hasten the process. I have a sinking feeling that the old school miniatures hand sculpted on their own come with traits that are now associated with AI hallucinations of old school miniatures which will make it harder to check and verify. But does Older Miniatures really use AI in their models?
>>98903617The current state of 3d modelling for miniatures is really interesting. There are AI models that can create a full 3d render from 2d images that only needs a little tweaking and refining to be suitable for 3d printing. There are digital artists creating beautiful, unprintable models. There are people scanning in old minis, and people using those scans to resculpt the miniature. >Older Miniaturessays he uses a "small ai-process to improve smoothness and remove glithes" (perhaps they mean glitches?). Based on my journeymans use of 3d sculpting, most software already included functions to do that. Not sure why they'd use AI for that.
>>98904150>The current state of 3d modelling for miniatures is really interestingI thought the wild west is basically over? >There are digital artists creating beautiful, unprintable modelsHas the average miniature sculpture finally learned that less can be more on minis meant to be printed and painted? I think most of them have as finding examples of miniatures crammed with too many details is getting harder these days. I think finding miniatures that have "too little" detail in their digital sculpts is even harder to find now. I'm not sure if a "rule" has been made about detail percentages on such small sculpts.
