Welcome to /diy/, a place to:Post and discuss /diy/ projects, ask questions regarding /diy/ topics and exchange ideas and techniques. Please keep in mind:- This is a SFW board. No fleshlights or other sex toys.- No weapons. That goes to /k/ - Weapons. The workmanship and techniques involved in creating objects which could be used as weapons or the portion of a weapons project that involves them (e.g., forging steel for a blade, machining for gunsmithing, what epoxy can I use to fix my bow) may be discussed in /diy/, but discussing weapon-specific techniques/designs or the actual use of weapons is disallowed. Things such as fixed blade knives or axes are considered tools, things such as swords, guns or explosives are considered weapons.- No drugs or drug paraphernalia (See Global Rule 1). If you want to discuss something that could involve such things (e.g., carving a tobacco pipe from wood) that's fine, but make sure it's /diy/ related and doesn't involve drugs or it will result in deletion/ban.Helpful links:https://sites.google.com/site/diyelmo/ (archived)http://www.engineeringtoolbox.com/
Some friendly suggestions for posting:- First ask Google, then ask /diy/. Your question will probably be better received if you do so.- List available resources (tools, materials, budget, time, etc.)- Try to use pictures and explain the goal, if possible- Be patient, this is a slow board; your thread will be around for days.- Share your results! /diy/ loves to see problems solved and projects completed!

Can't believe people are advertising bambu. Its overpriced and its print quality is kinda meh when compared to other modern printers. Have a h2s at my lab and a qidi q2 at home. Q2 prints significantly better.
>>3013359Air fryer?
>>3013276Consider buckets, cylindrical containers are a lot cheaper than square ones >>3013366Qidi can be hit or miss as a company
>>3013357Its also the goto for people who want a hobby as well, when that hobby is literally anything else other than being a printer technician. Someone's hobby might be 3D printing, but actually 3D printing and not the hobby of "3D printing" (not actually doing any printing other than calibration and constantly undoing screws and then putting them back again)
>>3013366You're comparing value of printers against an H-series bambu? A-series or P-series are where the value is at for common users. Not if you need a heated chamber, but then you're not a common user.In terms of general brand quality, Bambu is on top. Prusa used to be there, but with the XL and INDX both having rocky starts (and to a lesser extent the Core One). I'd safely say that if you bought a random current-model printer from a given brand, a Bambu has the best chance of it not being a dud. Qidi are decent, but the Plus 5 proved less reliable than it could have been. The Snapmaker U1 is definitely up there in reliability too.I can't wait for a Qidi toolchanger or Snapmaker U1 with a heated bed.
Hello people, so I am restoring an old and cheap vise here overseas and I removed the screws that hold the jaws into place. When they were in I thought that those were ISO M6 screws but seems to be a 1/4" inch screws. One of them got damaged after I took it out; not the hole, just the screw, so I am looking for replacements but of course here are really hard to find so I'm probably better off Aliexpress or something. BUT I need to know what to take, obviously. Here's the screw with a caliper set at 1/2" distance to measure threads. Other measurements I took are: fits a 3/16 allen wrench, caliper diameter is 6,35mm or 1/4" on the other scale, lenght 3/4". The measurement I don't know is the thread, pic related there are 11 pitches in half a inch. UNC? Thanks
>>3013306Take it to a hardware store, even home depot usually has a fixture in the fasteners isle where you can test out your random nuts and bolts to find out their thread. I'm gonna say it's most likely 1/4-20 thread.

I am in a position to finesse a 80pc wiha set with the case and wheels new. Morality aside would I find actual use for these even if I’m not an electrician? Current job has them but for no real good reason other than they can.I don’t really wanna steal to sell I’m not a crack head. Even if it’s about 2k worth of new tools.
Is there anything like CLR but foodsafe? The ice maker started making one hell of a squealing sound so I took it apart for a more thorough cleaning. The hoses were lousy with dried mineral deposits, see pic related. I pulled one out and looked down the bore and it reminded me of one of those medical diagrams that shows an artery clogged with plaque. I bent the tube in my hand and it was like cracking a glowstick. I pulled all the hoses and got all the build up out using one of those flexible brushes you use for cleaning metal straws. We have only ever used bottled spring water to fill it but I'm switching to distilled water to see if that makes a difference. Manufacturer recommends running a cleaning cycle through it with diluted bleach whenever the cleaning light goes off, which we have been keeping up with. To the bleach's credit, there was no mold inside. >>3013250You shouldn't steal, period. You know that. Come on, guy.
>>3013283For reference, pic related is after they were cleaned.

>>3011427what's a good way to make a diy ventilated/cooling cushion?I was thinking of getting an air pump like an aquarium one, make some pinholes in the tube and lay it inside a regular cushion.I need it to be powered by usb too.there's some usb air pumps, but I don't know if they'll shit the bed if used outside of an aquarium... or if that the volume of air they move would feel refreshing.I was thinking of using some usb fans, but then it probably gonna be a small one, and you'd feel the case when sitting on it.
how to turn picrel into a neat keyboard wrist rest?i only have a hacksaw, measuring tape, and rectangular sander. but no file set, router, table saw or anything like that. so far, i took measurements and made cuts for the width of my keyboard. and im half way through cutting along the length. using the hacksaw to make long cuts is pain because the fine teeth take forever. the bigger challenges with my limited setup are:1- rounding the front edges. i thought maybe use a quarter to make marks, hacksaw the edges off , and then sand it even so it's rounded.2- making all edges smoother. idk if my sander will be enough for the that3- making an incline cut, so the front is half an inch shorter than the back side touching the keyboard. 4- covering my mistakes by making all sides completely flat.
after rounding and sanding edges.

>>3013220Verrri nice. A bit worried about the weight. Might easily be the thing that get kicked around. Aliexpress sale coming up. Consider getting those mini magnets. Just drill hole, pop em in and apply a bit of silicone sealent or glue and you got a magnetic base.
>>3012821Do sand it even, then use diluted PU (is it water or solvent based?) and either a foam or a very fine brush that covers the width of the entire thing to do a single pass along the grainDon't go overboard with the sanding, just enough that the PU will hide the micro scratches, and always sand with the grainIf you're patient and apply 2-3 coats sanding in between you'll get a glass finish
today's bullshit. i don't know why I'm doing any of these. think it became a form of escapism. don't think I'm at the level where i could sell these.

>>3013328Oh I meant the ones that just say “1”.
>>3007000I got this at a random board in my company e-waste bin, after a bit of research I got a datasheet for a 8052 chip that looks like it would be fun to tinker with. What I want to know is if it's possible to completely erase whatever is written on it to basically have a "brand new" chip, is it possible? There's a cool project in hackaday about building a BASIC pc with one of these, so I thought it would be a good start.
>>3013308I think the IEC stuff was for people who didn’t graduate middle school and went into trades early, didn’t take math or logic (and wouldn’t know how to write logical expressions either, and wouldn’t know the standard symbols for and/or/not, never used a spreadsheet or used a high school-level calculator produced in the last 40 years or so)Reminds me of another retarded (and somewhat competing) endeavour: “ladder logic” used for PLC programming. Holy shit that is mind numbing for anyone that graduated high school.
>>30133438051/2 usually had their programs in ROM unkess it was a special variant… maybe you could change the program by higher voltages applied to the pins and even then you’d probably be limited to only one of setting bits or clearing bits depending.
>>3013345I was under the opposite impression, that it’s technically superior and more extensible to the wider field of digital design (e.g. verilog), with defined symbols for compound logic components based on first principles.Like planck units instead of SI. Or GiB instead of GB. Or J instead of Wh. Technically more usable in niche applications, but less intuitive and much less widespread as a result.
what is ailing you at the moment or what is has been your worst injury?
>>2995350>what is ailing you at the momentArthritis in my shoulder, hip, and knee from falling off a roofI'm developing a cavity but I'm currently a poorfag living out of my car trying to find work, so I can't afford a dentist's visit. Any ideas on a DIY filling? Preferably something the dentist won't have a huge problem removing later down the line when I can afford to get it dealt with properly?Maybe something like sterilizing it with rubbing alcohol and then applying a small drop of super glue?
>>2995350I just thought I would share the recipe for the best disinfectand, can be used on any cuts and abrasions.1 part Clorox or any other sodium hypochlorite solution "chlorine", typically around 5-7%3 parts clean water1/2 teaspoon sodium bicarbonate per liter, if you skip this it will sting and hurtJust mix and use as disinfectant. It doesn't hurt at all, not only kills but reduces the components of all bacteria, viruses etc. Can be used for low pressure wound irrigation, but if injected it will do huge damage so probably dont do that unless you are trained.
worst injury was by far electric shock, which still hurts with certain weather.i was repairing a 4,5kW PA system amplifier and it was getting hot quickly, as the power transistors are in TO3 packages, the heat sinks are directly coupled to the output and i knew the danger and risk. i wanted to feel if one particular heat sink was colder than the rest, so i hoovered my hand above it to feel the heat rising... then i got distracted... and my pinky finger tou hed a heatsink and everything went white for a second. now i have permanent nerve damage running from my pinky finger through that side if my forearm, and a little in my bicep. now my left arm/hand is hyper sensitive to (static) electricity and it hurts when bad weather is coming in
>>2995350I did this about 12 hours ago while using a putty knife to pry the kerf plate off a miter saw. it wasn't very deep and didn't bleed much at all but opened a pocket large enough to insert a penny intoI super glued it shut and had amazon overnight some vetbond and other first aid supplies.
I'm not sure if I can recommend vetbond, I think super glue did a better job, but this hydrocolloid tape is nice, I don't think it's a substitute for stitches but it keeps a comfy environment for the wound to heal.

Last Threads: https://warosu.org/diy/?task=search2&search_username=artbyrobotTo begin: the project goal: I am working to make a series of humanoid robots. I am using a Biblical theme of naming the first 3 robots I make Adam, Eve, and Abel. The goal is for these robots to have human body inspired musculoskeletal systems, advanced AI, and that they look human and pass for human to a casual observer at least at a distance. They must be able to walk, talk, run, dance, do sports, do chores, manufacture products, and make more robots just like themselves if not even better. My aim is to build a single robot arm and head and then add sufficiently advanced AI to that arm and head to enable it to build the rest of its own body for me. This way I am delegating the work of building the majority of my first humanoid robot to that robot rather than doing that work myself - and this is to save me time.In a like manner, my goal with the AI is to code just enough AI that the AI can begin coding itself and this way I don't have to code most of the AI myself because it will self create itself. I liken this to building a seed and that seed growing into a tree because for me to code that tree would take too long for me and just creating the seed would then save me time.
>>3005837How does this übermensch have a wife and kids?On top of all of that they also tolerate his schizo antics?Has this site been lying to me about women all along?
>>3013151Did you mean untermensch?>Has this site been lying to me about women all along?Yes. Miku guy also has a kid with some pinoy chick and he's even more retarded. Majority of women are just as fucked as men but have much less confidence and sense of self-worth so they're likely to stay in unfulfilling relationship. And it usually doesn't take much on your part to make the relationship fulfilling. There's men out there that are balding, obese, poor, small dicked, smelly, struggling with addiction and even disabled and having chicks. You should start to worry if you contain all these traits.
>>3013195Why do you mean starting to worry once those traits are contained?
>>3013199if you're balding, are obese, poor, small dicked, smelly, struggling with addiction and even disabled all at once, it's probably game over. But having one or two of these traits is still okay, you just probably won't land a 10/10 unless you're filthy rich
>>3008902OP is kinda retarded, but the technology is already good enough to make simple humanoid robots for basic tasks.Robots can already perform movements quite well, external doll frames are very good, simulated behavior and speech are okay. By placing a powerful but heavy processing unit outside to serve as its "brain" remotely controlling the robot body and only keeping small batteries on the robot for short periods without it being connected to a power supply, either a cable or induction floor pads. It fixes issues with weight and keeps the robot limited to a specific area.I'm not talking crazy stuff like OP with robots that build robots and program other robots. The idea here is to use the technologies we already have and just put them together. I estimate that a robot like Picrel, with the local infrastructure to keep it running, should cost around 200k as of now.

>>3005525My father bought 5 acres for around 62kUSD in our thirdie country, 30km from my grandparents house (where I live). The plot is right next to a major river, with plenty of fish.He wants to turn it into an orchard and watches a lot of YouTube videos about shit like "earn millions with your one acre land", all of them seem really clickbaity to me. He is ready to pay for landscaping and other stuff but he never wants to do it himself or buy any machinery. We are city people and we have never had any experience with farming or cultivation in any form. None of us in the family have ever done hard labor on the farm. My father has done a lot of DIY and home improvement stuff, but that is just around the house. One day he wants to make an orchard the next day he wants to make a homestay for tourists, the day yet he wants to it a vegetable farm for personal use and get a dog.I really have no idea what the future will bring for us regarding the property. I try not to get involved with whatever my father is planning because I know that once I do I will get dragged into it and I will have to take time out of my day job to look after the property and do stuffSeriously, I cannot over emphasize on how misrepresented owning land is shown in YouTube videos. It is shown as if owning land is very simple and you will always get recurring passive income from the harvest of the land, with no inputs or anything. My father plans on getting a farm help who stays at the farm to grow stuff while he only visits once very few months.I wish we had a concrete plan. At least more concrete then we will hire x, y and z people to do this landscaping, planting, cultivation etc. It's probably not my place to say but boomers absolutely cannot into self reliance. A farm is never about sustenance and being independent of larger society. It's always about making money and living off that money, at least with boomers
