Welcome to /po/! We specialize in origami, papercraft, and everything that’s relevant to paper engineering. This board is also an great library of relevant PDF books and instructions, one of the best resource of its kind on the internet.

Questions and discussions of papercraft and origami are welcome. Threads for topics covered by paper engineering in general are also welcome, such as kirigami, bookbinding, printing technology, sticker making, gift boxes, greeting cards, and more.

Requesting is permitted, even encouraged if it’s a good request; fulfilled requests strengthens this board’s role as a repository of books and instructions. However do try to keep requests in relevant threads, if you can.

/po/ is a slow board! Do not needlessly bump threads.

    Hints and tips?

For folding, The best advice is to always fold as cleanly as possible, and take your time. Everything else comes with experience.

    What are ‘CPs’?

Crease patterns are a structural representations of origami models, shown as a schematic of lines; they are essentially origami models unfolded and laid flat. Lines on a crease pattern may be indicated by ‘mountain’ or ‘valley’ folds to show how the folds alternate. If you’re particularly skilled at origami, they become useful instructions for building models. A common base fold is usually discernable, all the intermediate details can be worked on from there.

please, it's not even the oldest one
    try 10 years old
    >>
I wouldn't say it is dying. I recently discovered origami in 2025 and I have been keeping up and learning the hobby ever since. Is the hobby dying on the internet? yes. Many of the origami club websites are either inactive or dead due to the rising cost.
    >>
    >>591172
why would it be dying? its timeless
just make your own paper with like hemp or something
something around you instead of killing trees
but if its already made whatever
however buying it exacerbates the crime

I just finished this model and I realized a few things: always print your models using inkjet, not laser because the laser toner cracks when you fold it and white lines show up. also, never use liquid super glue on thin paper because it bleeds terribly. i only use gel super glue because its thicker and spreads evenly

toilet paper tubes were one of the stock items of the old BBC kids entertainment show Blue Peter.
They'd do a how-to build something pretty often, and it'd be made of stuff you had at home like cereal boxes, egg cartons, plastic bottles, etc.

    >they had to say "sticky tape" not sellotape because the BBC used to take their impartiality and no advertising rule very strictly and saying "use sellotape to stick these together" might be construed as advertising.

One year when I was young, they did a how to build the island from Thunderbirds because that thing was the hot christmas toy of the year and it was out of stock everywhere.

I know this post is more /toy/ than /po/ but it's a neat bit of history.

I got this action figure used for cheap. He was missing his vest so I made him one out of orange cardstock and rubber cement. It's a very amateurish job but I am still proud of it

    What the fuck, how?

I had a question but none of the existing threads are really too relevant so I thought making a general help thread from the get-go (beyond what’s in the welcome thread) would be good so even if my question gets answered the thread can be used for other people’s questions

I’m making a papercraft where I want to paint part of it gold for some extra pop, but I want neat and clean lines. I’ve seen a lot of artists use washi tape to do this in their art and I want something similar, but I have inkjet prints and don’t want any of the ink to lift up. Any tape recommendations? Or possibly other techniques? I’ve done some googling but I don’t wanna take my chances with buying a ton of tape just to test it.

Theres a cool tesselation pattern used in tourist maps in japan called the Miura fold though I believe the same pattern is also used in solar panels lmfao

I want to make a papercraft mask for Halloween, I was thinking maybe a goat or a cow.
Where do you find patterns / templates for masks? I've tried searching with search engines, looking on Reddit, on torrent trackers, on Libgen, but no luck so far.
