Which class is "cooler"? Sorcerer or wizard?

    Aka, "yes".

I prefer the lore of Wizards since I believe that Sorcerers are an excuse to fill the niche of "inherited/innate supernatural abilities that are different from learned spells" with something that is mostly a copy-paste of wizard except for build-specific differences, as an excuse to not add a psionics system as part of the base rules. I would much rather have psionics be separate from your class level, like they are in AD&D.

Wizards. Even the designers agree as Wizards have way better subclasses than Sorcerers and a way better spell list.

Outside of D&D Wizards are still cooler, because sorcerers have generally been portrayed as one trick ponies or retards who made bargains with devils and demons for their powers while wizard chads are just smart guys who figured shit out. Also sorcerers have zero sense of style.

    >someone with no inherent magical abilities using rituals to bind spirits and demons to do shit for him
    Zased.
    >DnD Warlocks that are basically just clerics for NPC monsters instead of gods
    Profoundly unzased.

Warlocks, in 5e anyway, are fucked busted as hell and fun to play.
    >Pact of the chain
    >Take evocations so it's basically a magical drone that I can pilot remotely and cast spells through
    >Familiar is a Quasit, can fly and transform into 3 different forms and fucking turn invisible.
    >I have an invisible flying drone I can cast Eldritch blast through endlessly.
    >Casting stat is Charisma, most broken stat in the game.

I basically broke Rhyme of the Frost Maiden immediately, shit was cash.

They have pretty different fantasies but I do think Wizard has more mass appeal.
Sorcerer is nepo baby magic which IS cool in a lot of contexts for that shounen powerfantasy of being a chosen one or inheriting magic blood but studying magic is just way more universally appreciated as something you want to roleplay.
Especially since we still don't have a gish for Sorcrerer.

    >imagine reading a book or selling your soul to a god to be able to do magic
    >>
Wizards are nerds who have to spend years poring over books looking for loopholes in the laws of physics before they can learn their first cantrip.

Sorcerers are Chads who simply tell reality what to do and reality obeys because they're just that charismatic.

You all lack faith, just believe enough and your inner goddess will manifest anything into reality.
    >>
    So
    >Wizard: Studies ritualistic pseudo-science to manipulate magic
    >Sorcerer: Learns to use the power in their blood to manipulate magic
    >Cleric: Is so devoted the gods get them an easy path to manipulate magic via religious rituals and such
    >Druid: Basically Cleric but nature
    >Bard: Learns to use the esoteric mystical power of words and sounds and song whatever to manipulate magic
    >Warlock: Makes esoteric mystic pacts to learn to manipulate magic
Is that right, at least as far as D&D goes?

I think this particular D&Dism is by far the most boring reoccuring discussion, even beyond the martial-caster shit or alignment
It's even made its way into am*rican popular media, we'd hear someone bazinga about it if that particular shit was still on
    >>
    >>98902881
I suspect sorcerers only exist because someone wanted to implement the spontaneous casting system in 3e and someone else didn't and this was the compromise. Then they stuck around in later editions because you can't remove something that was in a corebook no matter how stupid.
    >>
i like the fantasy of a sorceror more personally but wizards for sure have more mass appeal.
I just really like the idea of a guy waking up breathing fire or shooting lazers out of his eyes because a century ago his great granmama was sacrificed to a dragon but was a bad bitch and fucked her way out of the situation and now her bad bitch genes have awoken in you along with the dragon or whatever.

one of my players in my pathfinder game is an elf from a long line of wizards who is dumber than everyone else in her family but is also the most genial and normal and is a imperial sorcerer getting basically leftover wizard power in her blood making her a black sheep in her family of wizards even though she worked just as hard to master her own power she still is considered a lazy idiot bum by her family so she bounty hunts and adventures as a way to improve even faster as a caster so she can lord her power over her asshole family.
    >>
    >>98904817
    Wasn't the sorcerer an AD&D 2e kit?
Although I have no idea if the flavor was the same as 3e's incarnation.
    >>
    >>98904828
I like the fantasy of the sorcerer too, specially when you can go even harder on the bloodline aspect. Focus your magic, start mutating, etc.

I despise the sorcerer because it can't pin down it's own identity and it's class features are shit. If you're going to be a "race as class" race then stick to it, if you're going to be a magical xman mutant than do it.

I don't even understand where the whole chad version of wizard comes from.

    >>98902981
Binder is what Warlocks should have been.
