The beauty of chess is that the game gets more difficult as the game progresses. Memorizing 20 moves of theory really doesn't help you all that much. It's not as useful as you'd think. Endgames are where skill is expressed and games are won or lost. The complications in endings are often beyond the best in the world. Even though endings with 7 pieces or less are solved, it is too much for anyone to memorize. The worlds best will blunder in "solved" positions.

What are some good telegram accounts to follow?
    >>
    >>98873229
This depends. There is not one source that's best because within the same source quality can vary per opening.
Chessable is pretty good because it uses rote memorisation plus explanations, but it depends on the course. Still, the base quality is quite high.
I personally really favor textbooks, but you need a good author to explain the main ideas, so here too quality depends. The example of a perfect text book for an otherwise meme opening is the Killer Kalashnikov by Tony Rotella - variations, typical maneuvers and ideas, cohesive repertoire, it's all in there.
Video courses can be good too. Eg: GingerGM is really good at explaining ideas, as are Yasser and Ben Fine(((gold)))

Any particular openings in mind? Studying openings you don't play is a common improover trap.

I'm mostly looking for normie stuff.
My problem is I dont have a good enough memory to discern what is what because the opening is different based on what black plays.
Up til now I've mostly played openings that are versatile to everything because of that memory problem but I actually want to learn how to do things normie like.
    >>
    >>98874205
Sorry, you're gonna have to get a better memory then because that's what openings boil down to. You have to at least know your first few moves and some common ideas.
The London is a system opening that's normie as fuck but if you mean e4, you will have to pick subopenings for each of Black's replies.
At that point, I recommend picking a repertoire and sticking to it. Keep It Simple 1.e4-2.0 by Sielecki is a very solid beginner's/intermediate pick, he's very instructive and the repertoire is not the hardest to pick up.

If you want separate recommendations per opening:
e5: Italian (Nf3 Nc6 Bc4), book: The Slow Italian, it's a bit dry but good on the ideas. But any video on the Italian will do I think. It's just so eminently classical.
c5 (Sicilian): Going into the open Sicilian is best for the sake of fun, it's a lot of learning, but I really do think you should commit to the Open Sicilians. That means Nf3, d4, and dealing with all of Black's potential setups. In which case, the way to minimize the workload is to play g3-Bg2 setups; but that's too timid.
The problem is, there is no catch all solution.
tl;dr Just play main lines, accept that you won't always know what to do, and learn in practice. Don't want that? Follow Sielecki's repertoire, which is Bb5/Bb5+ Closed Sicilian sidelines.
e6 (French): meet d4 d5 with e5, the Advance. That way you don't have two forks in the road (Nc3 has the Classical and the Winawer). Recommended: The Complete French Advance by Svesh^2

    Offbeat:
Caro Kann: just exchange. I don't think you want to get into a theory pissing match at your level, and you deny the typical structural play they love.
Alekhine's: Play the Classical and don't bother with theory, just accept being slightly better.
Scandi: 2...Qxd5, it's gonna be a lame game, get used to it. Nc3 and develop your pieces. 2...Nf6, please play 3 Bb5+ and stop learning there. Do not do anything else, because the gambits, and stuff like d4 Bg4, are what Black wants.

Former World Champion Garry Kasparov believes that the Grandmaster (GM) title has experienced significant inflation over the years, with nearly 2,000 grandmasters worldwide today.

Speaking to Dutch media outlet Sport in Antwerpen, Kasparov explained that young players now have access to computers, online coaching, and extensive chess resources, allowing them to develop their skills much earlier than previous generations.

“Children of eight, nine, and ten years old are now winning against grandmasters. Perhaps that implies that not all grandmasters today are ‘real’ grandmasters,” Kasparov said.

He recalled that when he was young, competing against experienced adult players was much more difficult, and it took years to develop the chess maturity needed to reach the highest level. Kasparov also highlighted how rare the title once was. He noted that when Walter Browne received his GM title in 1971, there were reportedly only two grandmasters in the world. The other was none other than Anatoly Karpov.

While acknowledging the achievements of today's grandmasters, Kasparov believes the title has lost some of the exclusivity it once carried.
    >>
    >>98886699
Now I am no master of any kind. But that sounds like what kids these days would call cope.
Unless he is arguing that with rising overall skill and peak abilities, the requirements for a GM title should be raised as well. Which is an argument that can be made.
I think the other way around GMs should be able to lose the title if they fall under a certain threshold again or don't play any rated matches for too long. This too would make the title more prestigious.
    >>
    >>98886769
Yeah, maybe keep the titles only if you're active.

What goes through a young man's mind - often from a nice, middle-class, respectable family - that he decides one day to go on a chess server and after being matched with a random stranger without warning to play the Englund?
    >>
    >>98887017
The best variations of the Englund give a little more than 1/2 a pawn of compensation. A single pawn advantage is not enough for white to win a game. A lot of people, even grandmasters, are willing to be a pawn down as black without full compensation for it, especially in fast time controls.
    >>
Could someone explain why the actual FIDE is deleting from history the actual FIDE champions from 1993–2006?
    >>
    >>98887323
Crazy. So they're just going to ignore and not recognize their own world title champions from those years. Are they hoping younger people won't notice or something? Like what the fuck.

    3. c4 is a win for Black, but quite obnoxious

    3. Nc3 Nxd5 4. Nxd5 Qxd5 is usually a win for Black

Are you playing Nf3 after d6? A lot of relatively high rated players (I have my filters here set to at least 2000 or something) play exd6, and while Stockfish doesn't give a huge difference either way Nf3 delays black just enough to cut out a lot of threats. I mean exd6 Bxd6 and black has a beautifully developed bishop, it's surprising Stockfish doesn't see that much difference and even more surprising how so many online players just play exd6.
    >>

She kind of got a shitty draw for the tournament, starting with two blacks against fellow KAZ players who will know her and familiar with her style. But she is resilient and can back bounce still, got a draw today to stop the bleeding. GM norm almost certainly out but she can still gain rating.
    >>
    >>98891180
Nf3, then later Nc3 prevents the Rook for Queen sacrifice, or at least mitigates it, since Black sacrifices a Bishop and a strong Rook for a very passive Queen

It seems that, on a certain point, h3 somehow helps with the Bishop in g4 that pins the Knight. The whole point of this opening is: Black castles long, Blacm pins the Knight on f3, to which Nc3 somehow helps, but everytime Black tries to do these tricks

They help, but White can ignore this shit and go on, since Black is too thrilled to even think coherently

Savielly Tartakower came up with the aphorism, "Tactics is what you do when there is something to do; strategy is what you do when there is nothing to do."

In more elaborate terms, tactical ability embodies the vision towards short-term gain of advantage in a position—the creation of threats, forcing of certain outcomes, and counteractive measures against your opponent's tactical opportunities. (i.e, just like the puzzles that chess.com and lichess puzzle mix have you solve).
Positional understanding is about arranging your pieces and pawn structure to have more effective long-term prospects, and shutting down your opponents ability to do the same. (i.e pushing a pawn to guard a square that a knight wants to jump to, rerouting a knight or bishop to have more central activity or square control, taking a particular trade to damage structure, and developing your pieces with no particular tactical idea in mind.)

These two work together in tandem, and a good player embodies both. Good positional understanding often makes your opponent commit to tactical errors that you can take advantage of, and good tactical ability lends itself to better positional play by understanding what your opponent immediately wants, amongst other things.
    >>
    >>98873229
Anon, putting "hurr durr" next to an idea doesn't make it stupid, nor does it make it any less good of an idea because it's an answer you don't want to hear. A thousand opening books will not prepare you for when some opponent immediately throws out bullshit, thus making you freeze because you don't know what the exact best move is. In truth, these opening courses don't differ so greatly that any particular course is "optimal", they really only differ in how in-depth they go, and that's really only as good as your ability to sit down and actually retain it.

My advice is to pick an opening for black and white and just go with them, you'll learn all the tricks and traps your opponents want to use on you. You'll even learn openings you didn't set out to learn because they'll be forced upon you. I don't play the scandinavian, but I'm an e4 player so I generally know what to do in the ensuing position despite not having picked up a book or watched a video because I learned it first-hand.

And I'm not saying that opening courses are a waste of time, they really are quite valuable, but scoffing at the (without a doubt) best way to learn how to play openings practically is a setback. Reserve the heavy theory for the tournaments and high stakes competitions, just find a youtube video whose narration is enjoyable to you, learn the basics of the opening, and play it a fuck ton of times, don't focus so much on "best" because a marginally better opening course isn't going to unfuck your subsequent middlegame position that you created out of a lack of practice.

I know it's the answer you absolutely don't wanna hear, but you have to.
