What builds do you consider overpowered in D&D/Pathfinder?I have found that an archer with the Sharpshooter feat is extremely powerful in D&D. All you need is a longbow and a single feat and you can kill anything within 600 feet of you. It basically invalidates any non-boss fight as long as it isn't an ambush.
Sounds like 5th edition. 3.5 is infamous for this; you can break the game over your knee easily, and some core classes like Druid do so effortlessly
>>98884611>Sounds like 5th editionIt was, but I didn't want to limit this conversation to any particular editions.
>>98884538Fighting-Man with a Flying CarpetYou would not belief how quickly the game devolves into showtunes with the party at the table.
>>98884538Add winged tiefling, you can just fly to 500ft and laugh. Add a summoning spell and you can spit D10 per 10ft across your summon and the target
>>98884758>thieflingSorry bro, they're banned on my table.
>>98884771i doubt that you have a table when you can't even spell it
>>98884538There was Kenshiro Ratata Orcuslayer from release 4E, who when a party lined him up just right was able to get his accuracy high enough that he could use Avalanche of Blades, an attack that kept attacking each time you hit, and hit enough times to kill Orcus in 1 round.
>>98884538Yeah after my last 5e campaign I swore if I ever run 5e again I'm just banning sharpshooter, but I don't really intend to ever run 5e again. I'm now back to enjoying the harassment from 3.5 CoDzillas.
>>98884771okay larper. assimar, dragonborn and the owl thing all get racial flight too just less consistently and im pretty sure the newest rules let you buy flight as a custom race feature outright, so you're not stopping me
>>98884824no player character hits the table without dm approval.unless theyre paying the dm to playin which case they can expect to be fleeced
>>98884824I will stop you by not playing 5e and returning to our roots as a human only system.
>>98884758Then you have an enemy rogue sniper knock the winged thing prone with a steady aim sneak attack cunning strike and watch how he screams about the unfair 500ft worth of falling damage. If they want to play imba op shit, you get access to that, too, as DM.
>>98884758>playing as a red noggerTotal tiegger genocide
>>98884538All of them. 5th Edition is all power fantasy without the role-playing aspect
>>98884958does a winged creature fall at the same rate as an unwinged one
In 5.5e my level 6 damphir monk can move 120ft a round (35 base + 15 monk + 10 longstrider x2 step of wind) when your average player/enemy will move 25-40ft, can grab people with his teeth, and then run them straight up a wall or onto the ceiling and drop them for 1d6 damage per 10 feet of fall distance, where they are then prone and half to spend half their movement just to stand up meaning I can do this ad naseum since they'll never be able to outrun me. If I don't feel like running them up a wall I can just grab the most important enemy and run them 2-3 rounds worth of movement away from the fight around a corner and keep them out of combat. It's not big damage OP but it's a near unbeatable tactic that the DM has to specifically metagame to counter.
>>98884824>playing 5e
>>98884780>/t. banned troonfling player
>>98884538>What builds do you consider overpowered in D&D/Pathfinder?Life cleric my beloved
>>98884993>can grab people with his teeth
>>98884958>Then you have an enemy rogue sniper knock the winged thing prone with a steady aim sneak attack cunning strikeassuming i start on the ground i can just put out 3x the shots as you at +10 damage with a higher AC and win the damage race. assuming i start in the air i can fly outside your range and enjoy that sharpshooter ignores range bands and cover penalties. Or i can just land and turn it into a ground fight. a fighter is a better archer than a rogue in all regards. Your plan is totally reliant on getting the first shot when im unaware of you AND in a very specific altitude range, which just FYI, is the band for bombing summons, not for optimal archery. i can start above it and drop down as necessary. and on top of all that, you're relying on and archer failing a dex save AND on me the player being cucked enough to play 6e, since cunning strike doesnt exist in 5its not even like you need to counter-pick me, just put in any flying boss enemy and im forced to take it to the ground to avoid a 1v1. wizards have had fly since the dawn of time, you should have played enough games to realize it's not "lmao game broken because i can do something casters get by default at level 5"
>>98885205>arguing like a child in a schoolyard brag fightYou are underagebanned.
>>98885205Ranged is always a gamble though, and comes down to how prepared were you going in, and the war of attrition that comes from not relying on melee. Any melee worth their salt can close from ranged, whereas ranged spends so much to be good at hitting from range that they lack mobility in TTRPG compared to their counterparts that only a bad DM wouldn't take advantage of that.
>>98884771>>98884926>>98884952>>98885165Do you not understand the purpose of the thread? it's to share builds you consider overpowered, not to say that you HAVE to play or allow those builds. If you wouldn't let a character in that build in your table, you're already agreeing with the poster who posted the build so there's no need to start arguing.
>>98885327Not sure what that has to do with the DM/GM having absolute authority & veto power over anything a player brings to the table before its allowed to be played.
>>98885304well thats the benefit of flight. anyone who cant fly cant challenge your range advantage. plus you're a fighter so you can commit to a melee fight if you're pressed into one. you wont be doing GWM+polearm master damage like a dedicated melee blender, but you'll absorb damage at the same rate and that opens the door for a better counter by a teammateafter all, if you have a beat stick the last thing you want to do is throw him into another equally matched beat stick. when two tigers fight one is maimed for life, and the loser dies. let the casters set up a hold-person so you can apply your damage safely
>>98885579Yeah, exactly, thats why ranged is always a worse choice than melee. You think they'd realize that give the several years of Gleemax posts from the old archive and the Slopzo boards.
3.5.Cleric, Prestige Paladin in to Bone Knight is the single most powerful pc I have ever played, to the point where I swore off clerics in that game for good.I trivialized EVERYTHING the DM put before us. I couldn't even believe it at first.
>>98885372>Not sure what that has to do with the DM/GM having absolute authorityCorrect, this thread has nothing to do with GM authority so I'm not sure why you are posting about it. This thread is about OP builds, whether a GM bans the build or not has nothing to do with the thread.Feel free to go make a thread about GM authority if you want to discuss that.
>>98884968Yeah, its a shame that most 5e builds end up feeling like most of the same thing, especially post-Tashas.It really is a shame just how much variety existed in the DND-Next playtest packets compared to what was actually released in print over the following several years.
Incantatrix persisting buff spellsInfinite damage shurikens Persist spell clerics in all formsBarbarian in 5e always felt a bit busted in terms of effective hp but I've never actually had a problem with it, but it does cuck monsters with good to-hit because reckless doesn't really make them that much more likely to hit but their damage gets pared down. Wizard in 5e with silvery barbs. Especially 2+ in a single party that have it. Any monster that doesn't have legendary resistances just gets cucked.
>>98885611A strong build that sneaks past the GM's scrutiny is stronger than a build that the average GM immediately bans
>>98884611Remember the red crab?
>>98884538>Snakebite Striker/Strangler Brawler 1.> A fucking trox .>Start session, grapple someone.>Maintain grapple, 1d4+2d6+7 Tattletale Choking damage.>What do you mean he's still alive?>Burrow fifteen feet down.> Let go .It took two levels for the DM to hold me back after a session and ask me to switch to someone else.Good times.
>>98884968I've heard Inquisitive subclass of Rogue is subpar.
>>98886047>Persist spell clerics in all formsI'm having so much fun though.Granted, I don't play to a 5th of the character's potential, but still.
>>98887221Its not the end of the world desu

>>98884538PF1e? Unchained Monk. Free Qi Spells+Fighter attack table+Monk abilities and speed=absolute destruction. Tack on Automatic Bonus progression to bypass the Big Six magic items, get the Dimensional Assault series of feats and you're unstoppable, even for casters.
>>98884538We don't do "builds". We make characters.Builds are for gaymers.Characters are for players.
>>98889753Who is "we"? You certainly don't speak for me.
>>98889709Unchained Monk is decent but nowhere near broken.
>>98889753This is a 3.PF thread buddy, the OSR club is two blocks down.
>>98890841>sending people to the osrCruel.
>>98887344It really isn't.As long as the group is in sync regarding the general "power level" of the campaign, that is.
>>98884538>5e kids think direct ranged damage is overpoweredAdorable
>>98893477I'd say any playstyle that forces the DM to come up with specific countermeasures is overpowered.
>>98893759i'd say any playstyle that doesn't is wasting everyone's time
>>98884968Have you tried playing something other than a shit game?
>>98884538What makes Sharpshooter overpowered and not Great Weapon Master? What makes either of them overpowered when compared to using magic?
I tried pathfinder once but the game fell apart because everybody got mad. They made weird characters like magos and arcanotrixes or some other bullshit words that don't appear in the Bible or the Lord of the Rings, and then they whined endlessly because they were getting mogged by a dwarf fighter with a d10 axe. So clearly the OP build is dwarf fighter with axe.
