Why has the world abandoned photo shoots of good looking women? 99% of anything I see now is selfies and if its a photoshoot its just to sell clothing or some super generic looking agency testshoot. 10 years ago or whatever the world was full of every good looking girl doing multiple photoshoots just for content. What happened?
What makes Japan such an desired place for photography? I'm really trying to understand the hype around it. When I visited of course the size of Tokyo itself opens lots of opportunities but I quickly notice that it gets repetitive rather fast. All muh taxis look the same, the buildings have a pattern that repeats a lot. If you've seen a few shrines/temples.. in the end they all look the same. Even if you visit other prefectures you won't see much of a difference. Whenever I see camera vlogs or flickr uploads in Japan I now tend to skip because it's always the same. My current number one location would probably be Germany. Still safe enough to bring your camera with you, every state has it's own architectural style. Towns are usually a comfy mix between old medieval houses in the center with grim 60s bauhaus constructions that look really odd. Also home of Leica where this sort of everyday compact photography started. What do you think? What's your prefered location?

Color doesn't matter. Today when you can adjust colors just by pressing a button there's nothing more fake than a color. You should only shot B&W. Black and White photography is real and pure. Shape, shadow and light - this is what makes your photography look special, not some bright oversaturation. If your picture looks good without colors then your picture is worthy

>Nocturnal photography (also referred to as night photography) refers to the practice of taking photographs outdoors between dusk and dawn, when natural light is minimal or nonexistent. >The low-light conditions night photographers work in require specialized techniques to achieve proper exposure, including long exposures—ranging from several seconds to days—higher ISO sensitivity, or artificial lighting. >The genre encompasses a wide range of subjects, including urban and rural landscapes, architecture, industrial sites, and astrophotography. >The Ansel Adams Publishing Rights Trust has raised concerns over what it describes as the unauthorised use of Ansel Adams’s name and work in an “AI-generated colour version” of his iconic photograph shot in 1942 Moonrise, Hernandez, New Mexico, which was recently exhibited and offered for sale at a major international photography fair. >In a statement, the Trust said the work “exploited Ansel’s name, reputation, and his most iconic image, while failing to identify any human artist responsible for its creation. The Trust did not authorise, endorse, consent to, or acquiesce in the ‘AI-generated colour version’ of ‘Moonrise, Hernandez, New Mexico’ exhibited and offered for sale by Danziger Gallery at The Photography Show presented by AIPAD in April. The Trust was not consulted or notified before the work appeared. Once alerted, we reached out to James Danziger in real time, notifying him of the Trust’s rights, and asking for the work to be removed. Correspondence shared with the Trust shows that, despite our formal notice, Mr. Danziger subsequently leveraged Ansel’s name, ‘Moonrise,’ and the AIPAD presentation while pursuing a proposed commercial AI colourisation venture involving other artists’ estates.” >James Danziger made a response on the Danziger website to Ansel Adams Trust's condemnation by not only mentioning that the image is technically in the public domain, but also wrote: "As for the print itself, while A.I. served as the starting point, the final image involved extensive human intervention, editing, proofing, and refinement over many months."
Summer 2026 edition All video related questions and discussion is intended for this thread. Here we discuss techniques, gear and anything else related to capturing video footage. Please don't pretend to be an expert if you don't know what you're talking about. Kindly leave your ego at the door. Posting short films/scripts or other work you've done is encouraged. We tend to use and recommend DSLRs/mirrorless cameras because they provide phenomenal picture quality for their price, have large sensors (ie the same size used in high-end cinema cameras, and larger) and have interchangeable lenses. A photograph is simply a photon's recorded wave function. It ripples through spacetime and is possible due to it being electromagnetic fields. Digital cameras treat its fields like a solar panel would. Why it act like this is in order for a photon to get its wave function quantization exist. So all in all it is just the energy of quantization. Possible due to the mathematical nature of the universe. And all of this photography is possible because a photon's wave function can be accumulated enough to be recorded. The joke I make about this is that it is like engineering an image from how a camera is exposed to the scene it sees from the ripples of light.
Remember when everyone would come to this place to post fun photos and critique each other? We can and WILL have fun photo generals here again and not just another gear thread You do actually take photos with those expensive cameras you're buying, right anon?
I want to start a /p/ monthly, or tri-monthly, photo competition where the prize is actually desirable and relevant to photography: film rolls. Of course, they’ll be cheap, readily-available film stock like Ultramax 400 or Gold 200, or whatever else is easy and inexpensive to get ahold of, but the problem is this: how shall voting stay honest, and how shall the winner’s address stay anonymous when I send him the prize? I don’t want the poll’s integrity to be compromised, nor the winner’s anonymity. Who has some ideas for how this could be set up?

Where the hell do you get models these days? It used to be that you would just go on Model Mayhem or find some chick on instagram and shoot TFP but those days are over. I wouldn't even mind paying for a chick's time, but even that seems difficult these days. Not a lot of chicks into "modeling" these days, no websites dedicated to it, etc. I guess they're all doing onlyfans or something. Any way, anyone got some tips?
How long can you let it sit after exposing but before developing? Online I see everything from "you should develop within a few days of exposure" to "you can leave it up till its expiry date no problem". I asked a local camera shop and they said 6-10 months before you start to see degradation depending on the film. Who's telling the truth? I don't remember ever worrying about this back when I was using disposable cameras for everything.
Newfag here, I really like shooting buildings but don't really know what to do beyond hurr durr point and shoot so any criticism or advice is appreciated. (1/15)
Hi /p/. This month I was attending two anime cons, as "officially approved" photog and I wanted to upload some of the photos I did for opinions and advices. I made similar threads in previous years and they were always very productive so I would like to hear your opinions about these as well. This was also some sort of "test run" for new camera (Nikon Z5 II, replacing D750), most of these shots were made with Tamron 24-70 f/2.8 G2 lens (via FTZ II adapter), only few with telephoto (Nikon 70-200 f/2.8 VRII). Also newest version of Darktable, since old ones would not handle the new camera. There is always room for improvement and I genuinely want to get better so any kind of advice, critique or opinion is welcome. If you like, I can also try uploading RAW files for selected photos, on temporary catbox link or similar.

What has the consequences been since everyone has access to either a digital camera or a smartphone with up to 200 MP sensors? Snapshits were easy to identify in the 80s because they were often shitty point and shoot, or Polaroids, but what gear does the snapshitter use now other than smartphones? Has the ubiquity of photography destroyed whatever strange, new artform was budding?
I thought freeware was a meme until I tried RawTherapee and Darktable, and quickly realized the amount of neetbucks I would've saved had I not used Lightroom sooner. I don't even take pictures regularly. Why do photographers shill a corporation with comical levels of greed?

I'm a poorfag and used exclusively old manual lenses for the longest time because that was all I could afford. Last month I finally bought my first modern AF lens (Sony 85mm f1.8 if you were wondering) and I've been thrilled with the optical quality, it's amazing the step up that happened in the 30 to 40 year gap between it and my previous lenses. I'm finding though that even if I put it in manual mode and manual focusing it just doesn't feel the same to use in terms of joy and I don't know why? It's like I don't feel as involved in the photographic process when using it, whereas the old lenses it was a lot more visceral - the click of the aperture ring; working in combination with the focusing ring and the camera settings to try and push the old glass to its limits and get the most out of it. The new lens just feels too "perfect" and thus feels boring to work with. A lot of the time I just end up sticking it in auto mode with a feeling of resignation. Anyone else ever feel like this? What are your favorite modern photographers that you follow on insta, flickr, blogs? Anyone here is a street photographer? How do you deal with all the cringe? Because everyone gets pissy; it's cringy as hell getting in their business. I thought people would be way cooler with what we're doing.
Why do companies ship cameras with the viewfinder missing? What causes this behaviour? Why do people buy them? What is the use case? I can't think of any reason to intentionally design or buy a camera without one. It's not like the viewfinder somehow makes the camera worse, or makes it appreciably heavier/bulkier, or appreciably more expensive. It's just useful with no downsides.

The price of classic cameras is getting outrageous. The 7ii is now $6,000. >just film on digital Some of us consider ourselves camera historians, but now it is literally impossible to get most of the classics due to zoomers buying them up and cranking up the costs.

What's the verdict on this guy? Is he cool? Does he know his shit? Is he retarded? Am I the retard for watching his videos?
Fastest and easiest NON-WEBSITE way for a retard to convert shitloads of JPEGs to lossless JXL? Even better if I can convert other formats with the same program. I know GIMP can export JXLs but doing it that way for every single image I want to convert one at a time would take forever and a half.
Was playing around with quality settings for fun and accidentally discovered that actually, super low quality JPEGs can look kind of cool and aesthetic. Give it a try, cook some JPEGs at arbitrarily low quality and see how they look. I've gotten best results from qual=0 to qual=10, personally, with most looking best around qual=5 or lower. Tips: >No difference between qual=0 and qual=3. Qual=4 is the first step that looks different from qual=0. >4:4:4 subsampling yields a finer pixelisation effect than 4:2:0, although the actual difference in practice is not always noticeable. I don't think either is necessarily better than the other in terms of achieving the look. >Progressive encoding and optimised Huffman tables have no effect on the look so no reason not to use em. >Smoothing changes the pixelisation a little bit but not enough to worry about imo, mostly just makes it looks blurrier/fuzzier. Actually I think the softer edges detract from the harsh look. Picrel is the one that started it all. Looks like something you'd see in an Amiga game. I'm gonna try printing some of these on copy paper with my home office inkjet to "enhance" the look. >Local dogsnapper likes low-quality images Pottery. Not huskyfag btw.
I bought some slides off eBay and scanned them. These are from the 60s to the 90s. The majority of them appear to be from a family on the west coast, but some appear to be from the Philippines.
I'm a broke college grad trying to make a quick buck, I've never done photography before. What camera would I need to buy and how would I start getting clients?
Selling prints and exhibiting are great but that’s not really the bread and butter of art photography. Have you guys never tried to publish your own photobooks or zines? This YouTube channel posts small press photobooks and has interviews with photographers: https://youtu.be/RV9OX4o4ITQ?si=3juCfOxR4AIip2v0 If you make your own imprint, you could take all the profits and royalties from sales. It might mean working for not much money but it’s a better side hustle than most other arts and crafts.

What causes this behaviour? How can we stop these autistic, selfish faggots from driving prices through the roof in literally every vintage market they touch? Why do they not want to share what they love with others? Do they realise that greed is a sin? Do they care? Do they even use their cameras to take photos?
Why can't Olympus make a camera this compact? Why can't Panasonic? Are they stupid? This is literally the only M43 camera with any raison d'être at all right now.

Hi /p/, visitor from /lit/ here. I know nothing about cameras but for years I've really liked looking at pictures. Shoutout Ralph Eugene Meatyard, Vivian Maier, Roger Ballen, Emmet Gowin, Stacy Kranitz, Bruce Gilden, Dawoud Bey, Tseng Kwong Chi, Saul Leiter, Frederick Sommer, Mario Giacomelli, Lucas Samaras, Nan Golding, the Japanese guy who took all those raven pictures, many others. They might be memes, I don't know, I just really like their pictures. I have about 500 bucks to spend and I want to buy a camera. I'm thinking about a used picrel (Canon EOS R1000) with whatever used lens it normally comes with, think it's called a RF-S 18-45mm? I don't really know much about gear, just want to start taking pictures. I'm vaguely aware that once you buy a camera you're "locked into its system" of lenses, etc. I've heard the name Canon before so I figure that buying more lenses at some point in a few years won't be a problem. I want to take digital pictures because I don't want to pay for film right now, learn to develop, all of that. Am I being retarded about this, or is this a good purchase? Thanks in advance. In a form of payment, have a book recommendation -- currently reading "Love's Work" by Gillian Rose, short memoir by a philosopher who wrote it while dying of ovarian cancer. Strongly recommend.

Last superzoom compact camera models came out before COVID. Is there really no market anymore for these? Smartphones still cannot match that 720mm eq. tele end
The depth of field is related to two factors: 1) the size of the circle of confusion and 2) the pixel pitch on the sensor. the bigger the CoC the smaller the DoF. the smaller the PP the smaller the DoF. So, is it safe to say, that a FF sensor with 16um PP has the same DoF as a MFT sensor with 4um PP?
How come no one posts here? Photography is a pretty big hobby, and it has become very fashionable to shoot film in recent years, so why is this board completely abandoned?
First you had film: a chemical process that already distorted reality. The world went into the camera, got chemically bullied, and came out looking like reality according to film. Then they made a “film sim”. Except the simulation looks nothing like film. It is two-faced and half-hearted. But it’s perfect, because now, say, “Provia” no longer has to signify the actual film but the SIGN of Provia. You aren't getting Provia, just the marketing team’s idea of what the cultural memory of Provia is supposed to feel like. The signified has begun to evaporate. But fujislugs still weren't satisfied, so now the DIGITAL camera displays a little box end on the rear screen. If you’re a zoomer, that’s the cardboard tab you'd put in the holder on the back of the camera reminding you of the film you loaded. But there is no film, no box, no physical thing inside the camera that needs identifying. Literally a simulation of the thing that used to tell you which film was inside the camera. It’s displaying a simulation of the signifier of a nonexistent signified. You successfully reached the point where the camera says: “Here is the little square that would have told you which film you loaded into the camera.” Except you loaded a menu option instead of film, and now the camera is proudly showing you the nostalgic little fake box for the imaginary film you didn't load. There is no film, no Provia, no box. There never was. There never will be. There is only a crude mockery on the back of the camera telling you that there is. Fitting that it's X-TRANS. Reality > film > film look > film simulation > simulation of the film label > ??? In the end the camera is no longer pretending to reproduce reality. It's pretending to reproduce the evidence that reality was once being reproduced. It's transfilm, and it doesn't pass. It's Baudrillard's hyperreality except instead of Disneyland it's an X-Pro3 displaying a fake Provia box while you photograph your animal companion.
Hi, I heard this was a good place to get feedback and advice on my photography. How can I get a consistent “look” with direct flash portrait photography? Specifically, I usually shoot in shutter priority and a static ISO depending on lighting. I have been keeping my flash manual because I noticed TTL was very inconsistent with flash power and not every shot came out how I wanted. The issue I have is that as lighting changes and as I move around or change my focal length I have to adjust my flash, take a test shot, then adjust again, etc. until I have it dialed in to the “look” I am going for. What can I do to improve my process?

i saw in other threads anons saying that more people should make threads for their photo sets rather than fill /rpt/ with them so here we go last week I got a haul of vintage canon FD lenses from a thrift store for a couple dollars. every image I post in here is taken with one of those lenses adapted to my Canon R7 APS-C Mirrorless. Most of them are taken with a Canon FD 50mm f1.8 that was in poor condition before I took it apart and cleaned it. every photo was then edited in lightroom (some lightly, some heavily) and compressed. This was my first time really using manual focus so no guarantee of sharp focus. I plan to shoot with these lenses more so I will update this thread as long as it stays alive. I encourage others to post their photos taken with vintage lenses on modern bodies as well!
I don't know if I'm in the right place here, but today I got a disposable camera at the flea market in Pforzheim for just under €1, and it's still partially wrapped in plastic, so it's partly in its original packaging. She has a roll of film that can only take 15 photos; no pictures have been taken yet. This camera is from Fujifilm, but it has a piece of paper over it stating that it is from the brand "Bär," or that it has simply been resold under that brand. It expired around 2005. I can't find any Pictures of it anywhere.
Made this zine with photos from Kolkata... I am not a fan of writing long walls of text to explain the work or maybe its just not that deep. Tried to illustrate the masculinity of the workers in contrast to the flowers' delicacy and also tried to transmit the claustrophobic aspect of that market with images with strong blacks. Printed it at home. Rate it harshly.

I'd like to post some of the stuff I shot over the years to get some feedback. I'll go trough some analog stuff shot on point and shoot first, fujica stx-1 and then some digital. (I'll provide model for film and camera if I can recall it). Personally I'm almost never happy with the framing and often I need to adjust/distort in post to get satisfaction. I'm quite surprised that we haven't really seen Ai being used in panorama stitching software. I would have thought that, by now, we would be seeing neural feature matching, depth aware alignment, generative seam reconstruction, etc. Ai being used to identify surfaces and textures and blend them properly. To spot perspective and angle changes and account for them in the stitching. Yet here we are, with photoshop and PTGui, still using stitching methods from 2007. I guess theres just no money in stitching. Except maybe for adobe, who are on their asses right now and charging people extra just to generate small image fixes.
