    Recommendations for a family camera?

Family of four looking for a camera that takes decent photos and video and is portable enough to always have on hand during vacations and events. I'm willing to pay a decent amount but nothing obscene and I don't care if its film or digital but I guess the video requirement necessitates digital.

ok i got a used eso rp on the way along with a used 50mm f/1.8

looking a getting a 2/3 pack of batteries but was reading comments and one said the brand they got didnt work with rp video mode. does anyone happen to have an off brand battery they are using with an rp that works perfectly?

    An used EOS RP, a 50mm f1.8, and a godox it32

    >>4535653
Wasasbi/powerextra etc will work but won't show the battery meter or charge in camera
    >>
    >>4535653
you dont actually need extra batteries. the RP can charge from USBC power banks.
    >>
    >>4535653
Ty for not being a retard and going with a sane choice. This may anger the tripfags who will tell you that you should have bought a Canon R3 and 70-200 f/2.8 or use your phone.

You have a normal sized sensor, moderately modern technology, a lightweight setup, and access to tonnes of cheap good lenses via an ef-rf adapter if you do wish.

Video on the RP isn't fantastic - 4k24p max iirc - but you spent what, like $500? Most faggots otb here spend that on their shitty quarter frame purse accessories.
    >>
    >>4535712
    >4k24 with a great SOOC look (with highlight tone priority or w/e turned on) isn't fantastic
Yeah bro, you need 4k60, with no crop factor, downsampled, no line skipped, in 10 bit log HEIC and it needs to be DCI 4k because its more CINE
    >>
    >>4535759
Yeah okay there chudderino, calm down with the strawman arguments.
4k24 is just an odd spot where 30fps is much more common and desirable, so if the user wants 30fps they have to shoot FHD. This is fine, it's just, you know, average.
I don't even like the hybridization of cameras, but it's not some radical take to say 1080p30 isn't fantastic video.
    >>
    >>4535646
Welcome to /p. Please use the gear thread.
    >>
    >>4535653
When you start struggling with unevenly lit scenes and blown skies or ugly noise you'll remember that you can hold a tripfag accountable for what he posts bit not an anon. I hope you don't but know you likely will. They tricked you into buying one of the worst full frame mirrorless cameras in the market. Corner cutting is all over the place and the sensor is sadly no exception. It is designed to make you want to upgrade.
    >>
    >>4535712
    >shitty quarter frame purse accessories
Have you seen the crop the RP does in 4k stabilized? You get even less than MFT area if you enable the electronic stabilization
    >>
    >>4535769
    >odd spot
Actually 24fps is more desirable than 30 which is more soap opera than cinema tier
    >>4535775
Even the videos of people praising the RP only highlight how bad it is lmao
    >>
    >>4535773
Lmao you dont even know what its like to use a camera you just select +6EV shadow pushes on a dpreview test chart that's it

If you have a skill issue, please buy a nikon Z5/Z6mk1 instead. However it's pointless to do so and buy into nikon's shitty color science.

    >>4535775
That's why canon makes stabilized lenses, and why OP was recommended zooms and the 35mm f2 IS as spendier but better alternatives to the 50mm
    >>
    >>4535773
when your only other recommendation is a horrible, dogshit DSLR from 2013 an RP looks like an amazing camera. there's not much better that isn't nearly twice the price.

    DSLRs are genuinely bad
only autists and experienced photographers can get any good use out of them
SLRs were fine with negative film because of its 5 stop highlight overexposure lattittude and low resolution. a 20mp digital camera is twice as sharp as 35mm film and makes missed focus from the inherent inaccuracy of SLRs more obvious.
    >>
    >>4535837
So dslrs are not genuinely bad theyre just bad for filthy casuals?
    >>
    >someone recreated the thread retconning everything

okay this is dishonest engagement bait then, probably by Canon's marketing team
    abandon thread
    >>
    >>4535839
They're genuinely bad. The design itself has problems (mirror slap, no EFCS to mitigate shutter shock, focus inaccuracy, mirror in way of proper lens designs).

DSLRs are kind of like sony in how technically flawed they are. people still used them, but anyone honest would realize their error and accept better if they had the chance.
    >>
    >>4535848
    >mirror slap, no EFCS to mitigate shutter shock, focus inaccuracy, mirror in way of proper lens designs
    non-issues all of them
the real problem with DSLRs is that you can't use the viewfinder while shooting video, and if you're spending north of 2k on a camera it's safe to assume you are an aspiring filmmaker

More people should realize expensive professional cameras aren’t toys to take on dog walks

We are blessed with a deluge of cheap gear that’s still as ruggedized (and as fragile) as the new stuff. Its smart to take advantage of that instead of focusing on crutches like megapixels, IBIS, and 7 stop shadow pushes
    >>
    >>4536397
The real problem is thinking dog walks are a substitute for real photography. If there's risk but you know the photograph will be worth it, it's easy to take. If you're a decadent westerner that's a slave to a pet you already know no good photographs will come out of it, because you're not going there for the photography. You're going there to walk the dog.
I respect urbexfags a great deal more than the memedog friebd simulator fags on this board.
    >>
    >>4536381
    >autistic concerns for a non photographer to theorize about
No, they matter. I recently got an S5II to complement my 5DIV and there are a few things I don't like about it. Inferior ergonomics - why would this not matter? The viewfinder can lag in the dark. Also in the way of just shooting. The battery needs to be charged after one day instead of one week. Again, just worse. It doesn't feel cheap but it certainly isn't as tanky as my 5DIV. Not a big deal, but something to keep in mind.

I don't regret the purchase as there are some features I wanted that my 5DIV doesn't have, but the new camera's certainly a downgrade in those areas I mentioned.

If I had to pick ONE camera to stick with, it would probably be the 5DIV. I would miss being able to adapt some old lenses though.
    >>
    >>4536401
I agree with the overall take but it doesn't cross my mind to replace my DSLR with a mirrorless just like I wouldn't replace my car with an electric.
    >>
    >>4536399
Whats with you non-whites and your hatred of dogs always masquerading as a redpill? Pet dogs have been a facet of aryan and western eurooean civilization since its inception. You semites, slavs, and other asiatics never developed them, so keep your opinions out of it. Our people have managed fine and surpassed yours, only to stumble when we foolishly trust your races as if you were our own, so clearly pets are fine if not good for us. You’ve done damage to us, the 25,000 years of pet dogs and cats havent.

Snapshitting dilapidated building corners and rocks and leaves isnt a good use of professional equipment either. If you’re not paid to be there take the cheap shit.
    >>
    >>4536401
You bought a sort of shitty budget camera from a fifth rate brand. An s5 is barely $300 more than a much older 5div on the open market. That says something about its quality.

If you bought a canon r5 (actual equivalent to a 5div) you’d be happy with it. A lumix s5 is on the same tier a consumer sony DSLR was.
    >>
    >>4536402
The intention was never to replace my DSLR, but to complement it as I said in my post. The S5II is for adapting certain old lenses that my 5DIV can't work well with or at all. The MILC flange distance and IBIS come in handy for that. If I was only using EF lenses I would see no reason to upgrade, at all.
    >>4536404
But I don't want to get an R5, even though I can afford it. For most people, yes, that might have been the better choice. There were specific things I was looking for and the S5II was what I settled on.
I'm happy with the purchase. Everything I listed is also a problem with most mirrorless cameras so I'm not sure I'd be happier with an R5.
Also I don't like the anti-consumer stance Canon took with their mirrorless system. If I was going for a "premier brand" I'd be looking at SNOY or Nikon.
    >>
    >>4536403
    >you non-whites
    lol, dumb mutt
    >Pet dogs have been a facet of aryan and western eurooean civilization since its inception.
Pet culture is decadent bs, don't mistake work dogs for that.
It is a redpill that if photos are an afterthought and not your motivation to be there they will subpar and likely snapshits instead of real photography.

Fair and I see where you're coming from. Adapting lenses is one reason I switched to Canon from Nikon.

Lower trust societies fear pets because they're a virtue test built in to every day life.

The way someone treats a dog is an undeniable testament to their character. The same way you don't know how trustworthy someone is until you drink with them, you don't know someone's true moral character until you know their dog. Dogs stack a second factor onto this - you can't care for a dog if you can't trust the people around you to meet the same standards as you.

For a low trust society it's less scary to them to just neglect dogs outside, even if this results in more dangerous, less socialized dogs that spread more disease and commit more attacks against people (which, to be fair, the people as a whole earn).

This is a literal marxist talking point. Congratulations on quoting tikkum olamist manifestos.

Westerners have had pet dogs since our shared ancestors founded the first cities in the middle east. Your inability to continue this tradition says more about you than the dogs, and the lower level of achievement in eastern regions says something about that.

You're not on the right track, you're repeating the copes of a fallen people.

Get your civilization back on its feet soon.

Having a dog as an urbanite is the most cucked, retarded and hedonistic thing you can do.
Just imagine you need to take a dog two times a day out and pick up his shit with your own hands.

Muhammad (the al-zutt one) said this. It's not a native viewpoint in the first world.
    >Just imagine you need to take a dog two times a day out and pick up his shit with your own hands.
This is major, major concern in indian and pakistani culture because they attach some sort of weird spiritual purity/honor to cleaning such that a higher caste person isn't even meant to clean up the mess they make because it's "disgusting and beneath them". However, in the first world we don't really have the same aversions since we invented soap, water, plastic bags, etc.

photography is stereotypically a hobby for snobby losers. if you asked the best writer on earth to sneak a photographer character into his story, they would be a voyeur, a creepy boudoir guy, or a trust fund kid "studying the intersectionalities of texture and mankind's impact of the natural world" taking photos of gravel and leaves

if you're not a loser you're not going to stay "into it", like, you're going to still take some really nice photos with your acquired skills, but you'll fall out of love with the "cool" gear and become increasingly incredulous around people who insist it's fine art as if it's oil painting (to the point that not chasing poverty porn and "story telling" is a waste of shutter clicks) and treat the newest sony/canon/leica like it's the best thing since sliced bread

all communities centered around photography will accumulate losers, especially pseudy ones that engage in vegan-esque cope philosophizing because that's just the kind of thing they have to do to believe they're not wasting their time going without a day job
