Welcome to /k/, 4chan's weapons board. Our board centers around weapons, armor, and other myriad military technology. While guns are the primary topic, threads involving any other sort of weapons, from swords and knives to tanks and jet fighters, come up frequently as well. Discussions about politics, current events, or gun control belong on >>>/pol/ Before posting a thread, please check our catalog to ensure that a thread about the same topic does not already exist.

This is a weapons (/k/) thread, not a politics (/pol/) thread. This thread is for discussing weapons used in the American Civil War from 1861-1865, it is not for discussing the politics behind the war, slavery, morality, rights, so on. With that out of the way, feel free to talk about anything from cannons to bayonets! Would you prefer spring locks for your barrel bands, or screws? I'd personally think screws are the better option but Hickok45 (Officially approved /k/ e-celeb) who has personally fired both the M1861 and the P53 describes the screw locked bands as jumpy and loose, this could of course be attributed to the quality of production (and it's over 160 years old), but without firing one myself it's hard to tell.

Previous >>65478126 Short version of below: >who sells 20" M16 style barrels with FSB at a reasonable price? (bonus if not completely pencil) >would you do 1:7 or 1:12 for 55gr? Seems I have a few choices and 1:12 is better for 55gr. Really a 500 and under rifle anyways. Thanks anon >>65502206 for finding that upper; I haven't looked in a few days and accidentally let the thread die. I'll probably go with that upper and dig through my spares for the door and assist. I swear to god I had some dust covers I bought for next to nothing and I know of a way to refinish doors to match from AR15.com by phosphating them. I'll be looking for decent 20" barrels through the next few days. Not sure whether to go 1:7 or 1:12 but I think I'm leaning towards A2 profile for thickness/correctness. Should still be under 8lb all in or slightly over. PS: Here, have some semi-rare 656 pics as I reply in this thread; unless you dig in forums, the results are always the same 5 B&W pics. They're not hard to find but it's taken me much longer than I care to admit to stumble across these.

Greetings and Salutations, /k/ommandos, Someone who still had the old email address I set everything up through two years ago reached out and asked if this was going to be a thing again. I haven't seen anything posted by anyone else yet but admittedly have been lurking less often so I could've missed it. I tried doing this by myself again last year and couldn't make this and real life both function, so I had to drop it. Now that there is someone reaching out to give some help, and he is someone who I know is legit because he shipped two years ago when I did it, I feel like I can commit to doing it right. Having participated back in the glory days of the website, multiple tiers, multiple shipping dates, actually helpful and responsive anons when it came to what they wanted or had to give, I know the true magic of /K/ristmas. Every year the handmade greeting cards go up, the tiger stripe and bayonets come out, and suddenly I remember that EVERY single person on the planet I don't know ISN'T (necessarily) a subhuman fuckwad. That there are actually some very cool, thoughtful, intelligent, talented, and hilarious sonsabitches out there still, and many of them in fact congregate here. So with that said, I am in no way promising anything as awesome as the site, or multiple rounds of shipping, or 5 different pricing tiers, pretty much all the cool shit that made it so glorious. This is going to be my third year doing this under battlefield promotion conditions, and after doing this a couple times now, I have a better idea of staying out of the sticky wicket, so the goal is keep it simple.

Or otherwise "enchanting" their guns with various forms of magic (never needs reloading, homing bullets, special bullet effects etc.) Harry Turtledove, Jim Butcher and yes even JK Rowling have alluded to same. Would "gun wizards" be considered autistic and nutty by their own community? Would there be a magical version of /k/ in such a setting? Maybe the evil wizards would be trying to take over the muggle governments and ban wands or similar.

I have been thinking about FRTs lately and how one might put together an automatic that is effective as a EDC rather than a truck gun. What I was thinking of trying is getting a PSA Rook 5.7 and putting an FRT in it as to be controllable, it needs to be a lighter round that still packs a relatively effective punch so 5.7 would seem to fit the bill the best. With the NFA no longer a factor, putting a deployable stock of some kind on it is also a potential option. The main idea here is to create something that is as effective as a "truck gun" that is still compact enough to serve as an EDC. Has anyone else experimented with doing something like this or have any ideas on how to best go about it?

I have thought about this for quite a while and I think i can definitively say that for WWII (so before projectile speed made angled armor meaningless), the Schmalturm is the geometrically ideal shape for a tank turret. Literally the most efficient you can be while still fitting a gun inside.

Basically every depiction of the roman legionnaire has him with a gladius. And it makes me wonder how they managed to beat the macedonian phalanx, given how they were using not just a regular range extending spear, but 20-foot long pikes. Spears were basically THE weapon up until the gunpowder era, so how and why didn't the romans follow this trend? >inb4 javelins Those aren't the same, and it just adds to the question because they could clearly make spears so why did they just use them for throwing?

Up until recently I used to think cup hilts were faggy and looked rather gay. Swept hilts were cool and my guard can easily make up for any defensive deficiency inherent to its design. Come last weekend I sparred with somebody with a cup hilt at the our club and got mopped. He let me try it with a few other members and after a bit of practice, I got really good with it. I no longer had to move and dance around as much. The cup was basically a cheat code against anything that doesn't have a longer reach. My world was rocked. Was I just a faggot that fell for the memes of pretty hilts? Or is there something to cup hilts that I failed to see that doesn't make them all that great?

This is a 7 round, 1.9in, 22wmr compact revolver. And it has an interesting clip on it. Its meant to attach to your waist band and the grip hides under your shirt or coat. But what's the story behind it? I see how this clip alone can make it less bulky but who was using this firearm? A woman? A person living near wild dogs? A cop using it as their backup protection? 22wmr isn't a bb pellet, it can do damage to soft tissue and also possibly bone. How do you guys feel about this configuration and Clipdraw clips?

My LCP sucks and I'm sick of using it. Great to carry, terrible to shoot. I need to find a replacement, but I also want it to be 380. My dumbass, bought way too much defensive 380. More specifically, I made it. Back when components were cheap, because primers were nonexistent, I got enough to make 1000 rounds. I then made 1000 rounds and still have over 800. Thought about getting a Bersa Thunder or something similar, but then I came across conversion kits for Glock 19s. Seems perfect as I have a PSA Dagger Compact frame I never use since I got a Full-Size frame. >you have a 9mm Glock 19 Gen 3 clone. Why not just start carrying 9mm? Because I have a bunch of 380. Getting as much defensive 9mm I would need to replace it would cost more than a gun. Even if I made it, due to current component costs, I'm still above the cost of a new gun or this conversion kit. Thought about making this thread just about guns in 380s, but ever since I saw the conversion kit it's been looking really enticing to me. Am I retarded for thinking that?

is there anything that can compete with the functionality of a stinger missile that doesn't cost like 150k per shot? that's a shitload of money, and you might even need multiple to kill a helicopter. is the stinger the platonic ideal of the manpad? maybe you could go with some sort of optical only system running on hardware in the missile, and that could be cheaper? how do "insurgents" kill helicopters? rockets on stationary targets?

I think rifle caliber pistols are cool, be it the Remington XP-100, TC Contender/Encore, or Savage Striker. I always remember them being fairly common growing up, and pistol scopes being easy to find. Now I feel like they are hardly ever talked about. Was it the death of metallic silhouette shooting, the reduced interest in hunting and bench-rest shooting, or was it the increased prevalence of SBR's rendering them effectively obsolete? I know they are not totally dead with Burris still making a few pistol scopes and SSK/50 and CVA scout in current production, but I wish they were more popular again.

Anons, I need some solid advice. So I’ve got an AR. I’ve also got a 7.62 AK parts kit. I’ve never really been a fan of my AR. I mean it’s cool to me. It’s an A4 clamshell with a fixed stock. I like it for what it is, but I’m also not crazy about it. On the other hand, I’ve got the AK parts kit I wanna build. I flip flop between building it and not building it. I still need a lot of parts, and I came close to buying more parts today, but I’m not sure if I should go through with it. If you guys could give me some solid advice, what would you say? I live in the US, so it would make more sense to just live with my AR, but at the same time, I like simple. I’m also not a fan of aftermarket stuff or cleaning my gun aside from oil and a basic wipe down. I mean if I just had a ton of money sure I could build the AK anyway. Or I could just buy ammo for my AR. Please don’t bully me, anon.

So the USN needs frigates to counter China's expanding fleet, and our solution is apparently a glorified Coast Guard cutter. Constellation: 32-cell Mk 41 VLS, SPY-6, SM-2, ESSM, real ASW Program gets bloated, delayed, overpriced Navy kills it after TWO hulls Replacement: Legend-derived FF(X) 57mm gun, RAM, modular NSMs No baseline VLS No dedicated ASW suite in Flight I "We'll add capabilities later" Peak NAVSEA procurement autism. Did we learn nothing from LCS? Yes, Constellation was a procurement disaster. Taking FREMM and redesigning half the damn ship defeated the point of using an existing design. But here's the problem: THE REQUIREMENT DIDN'T DISAPPEAR. The PLAN is building Type 054A/B frigates with VLS, credible ASW, and escort capability. Meanwhile, we're buying a patrol frigate that can't provide comparable area air defense. A frigate that cannot escort independently against serious air or subsurface threats isn't filling the same fleet gap. And the FY27 request? Roughly $1.4 BILLION for the first FF(X). For what? A missile-armed cutter that needs a Burke nearby when the sky gets spicy? Congress also appropriated roughly $196 BILLION for Ukraine-related assistance and US operations since 2022. Not all direct aid. At hypothetical $1.5-2B frigate prices, that's 98-130 ships in raw budget equivalence. No, you can't conjure shipyard capacity with a check. Yet TWO Constellations are all we can manage. Why not fix the procurement failures and build 30-40 actual frigates? Or buy a simpler, proven design with VLS and ASW from day one? Is FF(X) a clever, affordable distributed-warfare platform, or another underarmed compromise we'll spend 15 years upgrading? If I'm the PLAN, I'm delighted. Tell me what I'm missing, anons. Is faster hull production worth sacrificing combat capability, or has the USN lost the plot?

I did some maths. Per DCAS, 4,368,000 served in the Army in Vietnam, and there were 30,963 hostile deaths in the Army. Per the National Archives, ~125,000 served in the Philippine–American War, and per pic related, there were 1,004 hostile deaths. That's 0.7% of those serving Vietnam getting killed to 0.8% of those serving in the Philippines.

been toying around with the idea of what could and would maintain ergonomics while still providing a longer barrel (without shortening bolt throw or moving magazine even further to the rear). so my favorite weapon design comes to mind, the SA 81 KRASA.. The design was sound, it just got cut for political reasons, not functional ones. it's chamber is directly located above the magazine, not in front like most other rifles.. it uses a claw to clamp down on the rear of cartridge and uses the rearward movement of bolt to move casing up before returning to battery, this grants you another 3-4 inches of barrel while still maintaining the same external look and size as standard designs. anyhow: landed on something like >pic idea is to have a lever action where movement mainly knocks the hammer back and resets the trigger. first shot would need to be charged tho (that's why HK like depiction, it would also help with clearing jams). it wouldn't be a semi auto, but rather an assisted feed lever action, meaning lever throw would be super short and fast, making it legal almost everywhere around the world.. also, think short recoil operated would mix well for this. idea looks meh, but i have yet to actually make a render, these are just doodles i cooked up just share here.
