It's 1945, you've blitzed through Manchuria, Sakhalin and half of Korea, the Americans have just nuked Hiroshima and Nagasaki, you're preparing for a naval invasion of the Japanese archipelago to cast down the fascist government. How do you go about it?
>>65617661beg the US for ships
>>65617661>you're preparing for a naval invasion of the Japanese archipelagoNope, I keep racing west to take as much of Europe as possible and leave the claps to deal with that suicide mission.
>>65617661You don’t, because lolRussianNavy
How many ships are you willing to steal from the US and how many are you willing to lose to kamikazes?
>>65617661>>65618996Legitimately OP go read Hell to Pay, the only way the Soviet union is invading Japan is if the US carries them there.
>>65617661its literally not possible in 1945 for both material and political reasonsthe invasion of the kuril islands was a relatively small battle that highlighted both those issues >materialnot enough landing craft, periodthey used almost every available boat they had to mount the attack and they lost a ton of themthe defenders also had no heavy equipment or aircraft while the attackers had the benefit of surprise and ground-based artillery firing over the water to make up for insufficient naval artilleryand despite all this, the battle was long and arduous and ended up being one of the few battles where soviet casualties outnumbered japanese>politicalrelated to material concerns, no sane person would ever okay an invasion of japan even in 1946the generals can read a map, they know how many landing ships and cruisers are on hand to support them, they have at least a rough idea of how many kamikaze planes are going to ram their landing ships and their own lack of AA cover or fighter coveryou would need to convince the entire soviet army to mount an invasion with a longer supply line than what the western allies had with less equipment and worse equipment than what the allies had and for no actual military gains, the idea that a soviet invasion would speed up operation downfall is wishful thinkingeven the cucked garrison at hokkaido would be more than able to bottle up any soviet beacheheadyou would have to convince stalin that expending hundreds of thousands of troops and almost all existing naval assets to divert only a tiny fraction of japanese strength away from the western allies would be a good or sane idea
>>65619028Good and sane ideas never bothered him before, fuckin' send it
>>65619383if you told stalin to open up a second stalingrad-level of combat in the pacific solely for political posturing to look good to the western allies, he would have you taken out back and shotyou would need an overwhelmingly good reason to convince him of it, and probably the only prize he would accept is being able to extend soviet influence into japan
>>65619389He's just as likely to have me killed because I laughed at one of his jokes slightly too loudly. He was not a rational actor. Send it.
>>65619028>the battle was long and arduous and ended up being one of the few battles where soviet casualties outnumbered japaneseIts literally every single battle that the Soviets and Japanese fought. Khalkhin Gol had the Soviets take way more material losses, but magically according to them took roughly equal losses to to the Japanese. Lake Khasan saw a way superior Soviet force get ass raped by field artillery despite having a massive bomber and fighter force against 0 Japanese planes. The only time Soviets actually had a lower manpower casualty count was Mutanchiang where 300,000 Soviets, 1,100 tanks, and 5,000 field guns went against a Japanese force of 60,000 with no armor. The Japanese lost around 25,000 men, but still took out 12,000 soviets and 1/3 of their tank force at the battle.
>>65617661Have the mongols build me some ships.
>>65622336Huh?
