    The ultimate tank plinking machine.

    >tank plinking
Not at all what it was designed for (or the primary part of its combat legacy either) and several other platforms were equally capable of that narrow task.

Stop calling it the Aardvark, one eleven is what it was always called.

Lots of F-111 shilling recently. I remember launching one in Wargame: AirLandBattle (or the 3rd one, I forget) right after the game started and I basically took out two opponents entire starting spawn units. I then proceeded to do nothing else the entire game.

I've never called it the Aardvark before, but I'm definitely going to start now.

I believe it was referred to as the aardvark by the Australians, but as far as memory serves the only animal name for the F111 is only for the EW variant, which was named "Raven"

From now on it shall be known as the Temu Tomcat.

    >Australians
even through the 1980s there's no common/colloquial record of USAF aircrew referring to F-111A / D / E / F / FB-111A (strategic bomber) by that nickname. The General Dynamics F-111 was never given a name by the Air Force during its operation introduction or service years (only after its retirement from service was the retronym applied).
EF-111A (official USAF name Raven) electronic warfare variant entered service in the mid-80s, saw combat in El Dorado Canyon '86 and 1991 Gulf. Sometime in the early '90s ?? U.S. Air Force crews began referring to the EF as 'Spark Vark' which is a sort of cross-pollination by the 90s of the RAAF having referred to their F-111Cs as aardvark, and post-90s internet / video games / airshow attendees seeing the C variant flight displays etc.

At least the F-111 handled the tank plinking role (the one it was never designed for) better than the A-10 Warthog.
