Has the idea of lumbering mechs and power armor been milled for good now that drones woudl slaughter them
    >>
    >>65621556
Power armor has only gotten more enticing now that tank-sized targets and larger are at a detriment. Scale that protection to a little bigger than a man, and he can still take cover, especially in those places drones can't reach.
    >>
    >>65621562
There is zero reason for it to be bigger than a man, for powered armor to have any chance it needs to be as form fitting and unobtrusive as possible; to the extent that wearers should be able to use the same vehicles they already do.
    >>
Power armor makes perfect sense for the drone operators, since they need to operate relatively close to the front line and are priority targets for enemy artillery and drones. You need a suit that can mount all of the drone controllers and survive a near miss from an artillery shell, but is still small enough to hide inside a trench or building.

Mechs were never viable, powered exoskeletons like pic related are very likely to see service with groups like mountain infantry in the next couple of decades.
    >>
What makes ukraine so shitty is both teams are playing with Fog of War disabled. Until satellites become targets and they start blinding each other the ability for anyone to covertly mass the resources and the manpower for a major offensive will remain impossible.

What equipment the maneuver elements are made up of doesn't really matter. Drones are just the most cost-effective thing to engage with at the scale that combat occurs. Their position is known at all times so it makes no difference whether they got killed by conventional artillery or a poor man's Javelin (FPV with an RPG-28 strapped to it).
    >>
    >>65621556
Still waiting for a viable power source for power armor.
As for mechs, they only ever made sense as sci fi props.
    >>
    >>65621556
yeah there are still plenty of boomers who think a tank can somehow do things that FPVs cannot do
regardless if FPVs are as cheap or cheaper than one tank round and that they put none of your soldiers at risk
    it's depressing honestly
    >>
    >>65622202
Some of the things FPVs can't do:
    - win wars
    - maneuver warfare
    - breakthroughs
    - transport soldiers
    - protect soldiers

Absolutely nobody, not even the dumbest zigger, wants to get stuck in WWI-tier static attrition warfare that's going nowhere.
Both sides want to bring maneuver and movement back to the war. Get results instead of wasting resources until the end of time. And ukies are finally starting to learn combined arms warfare to the point where they can do it.

    >Absolutely nobody, not even the dumbest zigger, wants to get stuck in WWI-tier static attrition warfare that's going nowhere.
Nobody wants to lose a war but it still happens 50% of the time.
    >>
    >>65622300
Tanks can't do those either lol.

It's going to take masses of networked GPMG-turrets linked to modern radars to credibly winnow FPV power. And that won't be enough desu, because first world countries will just spam their smart artillery/stealth airpower instead.

At this point, taking a quick L would have been much better for them.

Lipo batteries are more than enough. So were fuel cells. The DOD (excuse me "DOW") moves the goalposts every time the last power source standard is exceeded. And you can see why. Power armor isn't really worth it in modern war. Is it okay? Sure. Could it offer real improvements? Yes. But it's not the revolutionary power fantasy it was advertised as. It's a minor incremental upgrade and you're going to get more mileage out of different minor incremental upgrades.
    >>
    >>65621556
power armor could feasibly carry an AMS for drones. so could sxs's and small off road vehicles. has everyone but me forgotten the EWS on top of kiowa warriors?
    >>
    >>65621686
You are not wrong, but you can't discount the tactical flexibility afforded by drones, one effect of armor was shock, if you didn't have AT defenses carefully prepared and set up in place then the surprise armored assault would cut through your defenses easily, drones are far more easy and cheaper to set up, meaning that they can effectively cover more extense areas at a cheaper cost in resources, this is not trivial.
    >>
    >>65622312
Can't do what's already happening? Smartest dronenigger. Ukies have started pushing ziggers back and reclaiming large swathes of territory. And no, they're not doing land maneuvers with FPV drones.
    >>
    >>65622360
    >they're not doing land maneuvers with FPV drones.
they literally are you lying shit
they use a literal screen of hundreds of FPV that move in miles before their units and fuck up russian trenches
they are not using tanks at all for offensive operation because those piles of shit are slow loud and get spotted from miles away
    absolutely delusional
    >>
    >>65621562
Heavy mech suits could be built with the strength to mass ratio of a fly or flea where they can move and jump at unbelievable speeds
    >>
    >>65622357
    >the surprise armored assault
is impossible to pull off even without loitering AT weapons to ambush them with because there *is no such thing as operational surprise anymore.* Anything they try to push with you know about days or weeks in advance. Anything you try to push with the enemy will know about days or weeks in advance.

The munitions those drones could be carrying are entirely secondary to the problem. The situation would remain the same painful deadlock even without them.

A tank can see a threat 2km away and hit it within 5 seconds.
    >>
    >>65622202
    >>65622624
I should add, with a high probability of a catastrophic kill with the first round.
    >>
    >>65622624
and I guess it just teleports to within 2km of the target?
    >>
    >>65621556
no, because the armor would still provide protection against small arms and artillery fragments which is an objectively good thing
    >>
    >>65622640
No, we airlift it there with a huge drone.
    >>
    >>65622392
Bitches don't know 'bout muh square/cube law, and I say that as someone who loves mecha.

    >>

    >square cube law
Once you get high enough up the tech tree, you can make shit thats stronger than steel while weighing much less.
    >>
    >>65622868
Square cube law still applies to light weight composites, you can just build bigger before hitting the limit.
Also those light weight composites tend to make terrible armour losing the majority of their strength after minor damage.
    >>
    >>65622821
    its called shooting them down
    >>
    >>65622878
    >its called shooting them down
The cost to shoot them down is more expensive than the cost of those drones. Also there is limit on howmany drones you can shoot down.
    Not economically feasible.
    >>
    >>65622896
shooting things down has always been more expensive than the thing being shot down, but the thing being defended is more valuable than the cost of the counter-measures
shooting down even a single potential projectile means a doubling in lifespan of the defended unit, which means more time to accomplish their mission

    >Not economically feasible.
its called creating space, which does not need to be maintained indefinitely, just long enough to advance and take the position that needs to be held

warfare is not simply an economic exchange of dollars
    >>
    >>65622896
You act as if 500k is even a drop in the ocean for a national budget
    >>
    >>65622907
Shooting things down has always been more expensive than the things being shot down

Not really no, in WWII planes were shot by bullets are artillery shells. Fighter jets and bombers can be shot or at least denied by SAM systems and MANPADS. It's only with drones that we see a massive financial and technological balance shift where drones that cost a few thousand dollars can be launched from a truck and blow up strategic bombers worth tens of millions or fly low and slow until they hit a billion dollar EW radar, and there's not much you can do about it without spending unreasonable amounts of money and manpower.
    >>
    >>65623608
    >500k is even a drop in the ocean for a national budget
Multiply that 500k by a few thousand forba few years and your nation budget is in shambles.
    >>
    >>65622878
Why didn't the soldiers in Port Shuaiba just shoot down the drones? Were they stupid?
    >>
    >>65623646
    500k x 10k = 5 billion
That's half of what america sends to shitholes in sub-saharan africa every year.
It's fucking nothing my brown friend, though that may just be your entire national GDP.
    >>
    >>65622312
    >tanks can’t do those either
Yes, they can, my retarded dronenigger friend.
