been toying around with the idea of what could and would maintain ergonomics while still providing a longer barrel (without shortening bolt throw or moving magazine even further to the rear).so my favorite weapon design comes to mind, the SA 81 KRASA.. The design was sound, it just got cut for political reasons, not functional ones. it's chamber is directly located above the magazine, not in front like most other rifles.. it uses a claw to clamp down on the rear of cartridge and uses the rearward movement of bolt to move casing up before returning to battery, this grants you another 3-4 inches of barrel while still maintaining the same external look and size as standard designs.anyhow: landed on something like >picidea is to have a lever action where movement mainly knocks the hammer back and resets the trigger.first shot would need to be charged tho (that's why HK like depiction, it would also help with clearing jams). it wouldn't be a semi auto, but rather an assisted feed lever action, meaning lever throw would be super short and fast, making it legal almost everywhere around the world.. also, think short recoil operated would mix well for this. idea looks meh, but i have yet to actually make a render, these are just doodles i cooked up just share here.
>>65625057reason for short recoil being neat here is that barrel movement could unlatch the lever, meaning if you hold the grip loosely, you could basically do bump like lever reload, meaning it would be the most compact- fast shooting hunting rifle available.. (without the semi auto mag limitations and paperwork)personally, id chamber this shit in 450 bushmaster, EU needs good pig guns, and 450 can be legally used on everything from pigs to moose.
>>65625057This is even more compact with only 1.5 cartridge lengths behind the chamber (it could be even shorter if gas operated), and it's top feed bottom eject so you can use it with a P90 style magazine.
>>65625057If you're already giving up on chamber checks and easy jam clearing, then there are easier ways to reduce length. Just use a shorter bolt like on an RDB, the only reason it isn't shorter is because it has a very long stroke to clear the magazine, which could be avoided with side eject.
