Why don't they make rifle rounds out of tin?
    >not lead so you don't get dementia
    >soft like lead so you don't break your teeth
    >>
    Begrudgingly checked.
And the answer is because tin is only 2/3rds as dense as lead.
    >>
Copper is denser than tin and has other properties like malleability and ductility that make it better for bullets.
    >>
    >>65618947
tin is pretty soft, it's not silly puddy like lead, but it's way softer than bronze
    >>
    >>65618960
Bronze is more than twice as hard as copper.
    >>

I always had this idea of having a thick (for a bullet or slug) tin jacket encase a lead core, but i figured there would be no way to guarantee that the lead core wouldn't smoosh out of the tin jacket unless it was absurdly thick.

    Now I want bronze bullets.

Check out beryllium copper and osmium.
    >>
    >>65618888
Tin is 27x more expensive than lead. You do the maff.
    >>
It’s not the lead in the projectile that causes the poising in the shooter it’s the lead used in the primer that gets put into the air.

I meant for hunting. people use copper monos and other expensive shit for hunting
you get lead exposure from eating an animal that got shot with lead
    >>
    >>65621657
    >lead exposure
    Not enough to matter
    >>
    >>65621694
    >eats lead bullets
    >>
    >>65618888
Most lead exposure issues are from the primer compound being an explosive mercury compound so it's non corrosive unlike older potassium/sodium chlorate/perclorate mixtures

    1. You should be using copper or a binded bullet, bath would be cheaper and more effective than tin, with between 90 and 100% weight retention.
    2. If the bullet breaks up, you can clearly see the "bloodshot" meat, which you cut out anyways. Lead exposure from game meat is a scare tactic from leftist shithole states just trying to justify as many weapon/ammo bans as possible.

i'm sure some bubba has done it before.

also worth noting that tin is a rather rare metal
not as rare as gold, but still 50x as costly as lead and 3x as costly as copper
unless the tin is capable of turning your bullets into armor piercing cannon rounds, its not worth it

This is lead and it made its way all the way down from his lower neck before stopping in his hindquarters.
    >>
    >>65625251
    is it hard cast?
    >>
    >>65625254
I'm not sure, I just know it's an older Brenneke slug I used last year. I've shot two bucks with that load, I recommend it , they go down very quickly

I think tin is a lot lighter than lead. You'd end up with velocity and stabilization issues
    >>
    >>65625256
    >>65625260
hmm, idk where it's pulling the info from, but jewgle AI says the brenneke slugs are a lead antimony alloy and idk if it's HARD CAST TM but antimony is one of the metals (antimony, tin and/or silver) that's used to alloy with lead to create hard cast rounds.
    >>
    >>65625273
a lighter round can theoretically be able to be given a higher velocity than a heavier one if fired with the same amount of propellant

what you actually lose is sectional density
its faster at the muzzle but experiences more air resistance and drops off in velocity faster
and while no handgun round is piercing any armor, the reduced mass with the same surface area means you are penetrating less of it
which can be an issue if firing through metal barriers
    >>
    >>65625282
    >higher velocity
Then you need a very tough bullet to survive that stabilization and not break apart enroute through the barrel. A round like that may not be very good for hunting
    >>
    >>65621501
This. I cast miniatures in mostly tin professionally and I wish I could get away with using lead like they used to.
