How do you envision localized space battles, both on ship and on other battlefields? Will it be cool, or lame?
Extremelly gay and boring. It'll just be regular combat but any grazing hit is a guaranteed death. It'll just be fragmentation spam.
>>65619408Armoured suits, laser weapons, and a fuckton of frag because suddenly it's all about scoring that golden BBIn other words, 1-man battleship combat
Damn, Japs were ahead of their time
>>65619408you won't like the answerbut it'll be drones fighting drones.humans are far too expensive to put in space and keep them alive to risk their lives.
>>65619408>Will it be cool, or lame?Yes.
>>65619408It'll be drone on drone violence using extremely cool engineering for very boring fights.Unless there is some major breakthrough in propulsion and heat managment my money is on missiles and railguns.
For combat on space ships I could see trench shotguns being used. It's ideal for close quarters, you have less chance to pierce the hull with buckshot and with a bayonet attached you can shishkebab some poor fucker. Now add some magnetic boots and zero gravity combat is your bitch.
>>65619490deviants and mentally challenged people are still cheaper than drones.
>>65620171>a bunch of conductive shit floating around the ship afterProjectile weapons will be firing frangible plastics
>>65620171Trench shotguns are a meme.>>656201961. Not really. You still need to give them guns and ammo, even if you skimp on everything else, make infrastructure for them, pay for food and water up until they get to battle, pay for fuel, etc.2. Putting them in space is really expensive, though.
>>65619480Why was every Jap last-ditch weapon "Ror, kirr yourserf"? Did the concept of "one guy can do the same thing multiple times" never make it across the Pacific?
>>65620730The Japanese in general had an extremely "life really isn't all that valuable" mentality for most their history. Hell, the practice of killing your own children before they reached 5 was pretty common because they believed children under 5 were still half in the spirit world so killing them was basically just a "return to sender" thing.
>>65620755>Hell, the practice of killing your own children before they reached 5 was pretty common because they believed children under 5 were still half in the spirit world so killing them was basically just a "return to sender" thing. This was pretty common in many/most societies, with different age gaps. The whole 'children wouldn't be named until x' is not just because of infant mortality but also because they might just get rid of them, so it's best for them to not be people yet.
>>65620730The suicide weapons didn't have much higher mortality rates than the regular weapons at that point in the war
>>65619408Depends on the infrastructure you're fighting over. Stations cant dodge much but are armoured to fuck, so you threaten them with huge guns. Battleships can carry huge guns but are vulnerable to drones and missiles. Everything is vulnerable to the weaponized power beaming system, but it gets trashed by shrapnel or cannons (depending on if its fusion or solar array)You're either at max range spending days dodging relativistic projectiles and intercepting missiles or you're already too close to dodge and its a DPS race. Infantry will be fun though, you'll probably see a lot of killbot breaching actions
>>65620196>have a 65 IQ retard fly the space plane.Congrats anon, based on your propensity for ideas like this, you have just been deemed qualified to fly the space plane.
>>65620763>This was pretty common in many/most societies, with different age gaps. The whole 'children wouldn't be named until x' is not just because of infant mortality but also because they might just get rid of them, so it's best for them to not be people yet.Do you have a single fact to back this up
>>65621123i think it would be good if it were true because then if your kid ends up being gay or retarded or sickly or something you could just smother it and roll the dice again
>>65619426>any grazing hit is a guaranteed deathnot if mechanical counterpressure suits are perfected
>>65620730OK anon, present a better last-ditch anti-tank weapon for Japan, go ahead
>>65620730>one guy can do the same thing multiple timesBut to do that can require resources which you don't have. As with all other armies and societies resorting to suicide tactics, they had done their sums and realised that they were killing better and more efficiently in this way than with what few other resources they had It's something like 6 centuries since European generals codified that the first consideration of generals should be resources at hand, and at least 17 centuries, maybe more, since this was codified in Sun Tzu's Art Of WarWhen are people going to finally get a clue?
>>65620763My great grandmother's village in southern Germany did this with children that "were not right" ie retarded.A parent would walk one deep into the forest and gone back alone. If the child came back they would keep it. I think there was only one that returned. All the others died.
>>65621188that seems crueler than just bashing their heads in
>>65621190Lots of things are retarded like that, yesI know a lot of women who'd rather drown or expose vermin to death rather than bash their heads in because "it feels so cruel">>65621188 the origin of the Hansel and Gretel story I guess?
Neal Stephenson has a book called Seveneves in which humans slowly speciate in space over thousands of years and fight lots of conflicts inside of pressurised ships, so their firearms development moved away from explosions and into pistol-like catapults and slingshots with smart bullets, things that won't penetrate a hill but will drill into suits or flesh, or discharge electrical bursts, release chemical agents, etc. Sort of a cool idea. Paolo Bacogalupi has near-future scifi win which spring-wound guns shoot little bladed discs. Not space-related, but the idea is sort of adaptable.
>>65620836How does a solar-powered craft even compete with a fusion one when the power output of fission, let alone fusion is magnitudes higher for space density? It's the equivalent of comparing lighter than air blimps to heavier than air planes.
>>65621123I think you should look up infanticide on google or whatever you use if you want actual hard sources, since the last time I did that with 4chan and posted like 4 sources people still seethed at me anyways so I don't really feel like wasting my time on an effortpost. If you want specific peoples, the Greeks and Romans both did it, it happened in China repeatedly (you were probably told about the whole Great Lead Forward female deficit deal - it's because parents aborted or killed their female babies), and it still happens in large parts of Africa today, right now. It also happens (happened? my information is not up to date) with South American tribes. There were also (and are, of course) societies that banned it completely, to varying degrees of success. It is usually prompted by percieved deformity or weakness in the child, ritual superstitions (ala twins), shortages in the community, and potentially exasperated by their sex, usually them being a woman. Also, depending on the society, if it was a famine the infant may be eaten>>65621190Exposure is easier on the mind of many people since it provides disconnect and 'gives the child a chance' - if we're going to talk about the Greeks and Romans again, than they believed that the gods may intervene and save the child. Some did just flat out kill the infant, though.
>>65621374If you want an actual practice to investigate, look at Mingi, which is the most severe example I am aware of practiced currently. Technically it's banned, but it's in Ethopia and was only banned in 2012, so... do the math on whether it's still going on or not.
>enemy fleet is 10 000 000 000 kilometres away>fire super fast intelligent destroyer drones at them on some ridiculous trajectory>wait 2 weeks only to learn that they accidentally dodge the drones by reducing their speed by 1% a while ago>because of speed, distance and the way both fleets are orbiting the sun the next battle is in half a year>fucking hell
>>65619408more remote warfare, so gay as nobody is nearby to kill.lasers would be common in space (probably), which is cool, but that's because its the best method known to man that can send anything from one planet to another, which is gay because boring. Can't see any warfare in deep space as there's there's no resistance once you're out of the atmosphere of a planet, so it won't be like warships travelling between continents where gravity and the curvature of the earth to protect ships from extreme distances
>>65621378Only one tribe banned it, to be clear, as far as I've been able to discover the other has not. It's probably illegal under Ethopian law anyways but lmao.
>>65620668>Trench shotguns are a meme.
>>65620730Japan was getting steamrolled and they had 100% death rate anyways. You sound like the type of guy that doesn't understand why kamikazes were used: the recruits are gonna die anyways and they have infinitely higher chance of succeeded in a suicide attack
>>65619408My retarded idea of the day for a vacuum/low G weapon: Crossbows with small solid fuel rockets as projectiles with the projectile weight exactly balanced to avoid all practical recoil effects. In lunar gravity you could even use it to launch a guided projectile like a mortar while avoiding launch site thermal signatures. A catapult or trebuchet could also work just fine as artillery on the moon.
