>1950>Eastern Bloc standardized on one rifle>NATO has several different service rifles>2026>Several formerly Eastern Bloc powers (like China and Serbia) use their own proprietary rifles>Most NATO countries use some derivative of the AR15Funny how that works
something blew up lol.
>>65613916Yeah, but all the Euros are adopting piston ARs over the original Stoner gas system, which is absolutely disgusting
>>65613916What I think is crazy that the Soviets had a massive edge with the RPD, a gun we wouldn't have a direct answer to for nearly 30 years with the minimi, and dropped it like a sack of rotten potatoes for the RPK. Not even an RPDM? I know Soviet leaders were shortsighted but I find it unbelievable they had a gun that- according to MACVSOG, SADF, and the Rhodies- was the bees tits and just failed to recognize it. Another episode of the Russians striking gold, confusing it for a banana, and throwing it away when it tastes funny
>>65613923Are you the exact same guy going around every thread saying the exact same thing or are you a member of some 80 IQ cabal dedicated to contributing nothing?
>>65614231They did have an RPDM though? Wasn't much of an evolution but it did exist.
>>65614036They need to be able to fold the butt of the rifle for easier storage instead of reliability. Because it's going to sit unused anyways.
>>65614036What does that offer over a standard ar?
>>65614240it's a false flagger. ignore it.>>65614384pretty much nothing. the whole "piston more reliable" is a meme.
>>65614231I heard the RPD had lifespan issues (certified lmg moment) so the soviets ditched it for the RPK since it's essentially disposable while being supposedly good enough.
>>65614384It warms up less quick, which I guess is kinda nice, but it's a rifle, not a machinegun. Fouling also focuses more around the gas block, which is also a bit nicer, but people who bitch and moan about 'DI' fouling are clueless women and think it breaks the gun, when actually it doesn't matter. The carrier is your gasblock on the M16 and this literally isn't a problem, apply a bit of lube and then clean it quickly every couple thousand rounds or so.Reliability tends to be good with higher quality piston AR15s, but this isn't at all because of the piston, this is because they gas the fuck out of these rifles, and it'll run through harsh conditions that way, but you also get way more recoil, and you need a way more expensive recoil buffer with something like tungsten sand in it.In return for using a piston, you also get carrier tilt, which contrary to H&K marketing is not a resolved problem, and piston pop, ergo the gun is actually louder with a suppressor than a 'DI' gun (again, contrary to marketing). The bolt head also isn't as long lived, because unlike 'DI' rifles, you don't get the gas pressure in the carrier pushing forward on it, counteracting the pressure in the chamber, something which would relieve a lot of stress on the locking lugs, nor do you get gas blasting out the ejection port, which can serve to blow dirt away from the action. There's great piston rifles out there, but they were designed from to ground up to be. Grafting a piston into the AR15 is a fucking kludge.
>>65615376>Quality posting on nu/k/Stop.
>>65615376>There's great piston rifles out there, but they were designed from to ground up to be. Grafting a piston into the AR15 is a fucking kludge.stoner chads stay winning
>>65614575The RPD was also insanely expensive to build, and very slow and clunky to reload compared to an RPK.
>>65615376>nor do you get gas blasting out the ejection port, which can serve to blow dirt away from the action.>getting your face gassed out even more is akshually a benefit
>>65615886it literally makes no difference if you're left handed, I'd rather have DI with a flow through can since there's no port popt.left handed
>>65614384>What does that offer over a standard ar?Part of it is euro companies scrambling to develop something they can say is their unique IP. The other part is that external pistons are actually capable of passing the arbitrary "over the beach" performance standard which become popular starting around the late 80s. Immerse loaded weapon in water. Fire it without making any effort to clear the barrel. Did it explode? Long, skinny, fully sealed gas tubes do not like it when this happens.
>>65613923Several important defence companies
>>65615886I suppose that if you gas the everliving fuck out of a 'DI' gun, you might get actual gas into your face like with an actual DI gun, but why the fuck would you need to do that?
>>65615886
>>65613916Is it really funny? I don't see any humor in it. But it makes sense to have everyone using the same stuff for logistics
>>65613916The Eastern Block had a hundred guns that all LOOKED like AKs but ran on entirely different systems and were not even remotely cross-compatible. Frankly I don't know why the fuck they did that.
>>65614384Euroids can't into making thin gauge tubes. Sad really.
>>65617777Waste of quads
>>65617777Tf quinzavious gon do?
>>65613916>some derivative of the AR15You mean AR18, dumb AR homo. Your pet rifle has been phased out and rendered obsolete
>>65618050It is really sad there are no slurs for white people that envoke any sort of feeling in me the way nigger, jeet, spic, etc. seems to with brownies.
>>65617440>we don't make good firearms in GERMANY, that would be evil and heckin unwholesome >:(
>>65617777>tfw ziggergun fans are unironically all nigger apes
>>65618073Many AR15s are in European service today, and they have AR18 style pistons grafted into them.
>>65618086>>65618057>>65617959im just joshin.. was bored at work, please forgive me my fellow Afrikan brothers.
>>65618172>erm akshually my favorite toy is still not obsolete because the shell looks the same!!!We're reaching levels of cope not thought possible
>>65618349Anon, it's outright an AR15 BCG without a gas key, using a piston to shove on it instead. You can even use AR15 bolts as is, and you could adapt bolt carriers between them with not that much work, pic related. So, you know, dilate.
>>65614384By adding more forward weight to the weapon with a piston, when tossed to surrender, the rifle is more likely to safely point muzzle down into the impact
>>65617737Because Soviets engaged in widespread malicious compliance and undermining of eachother even as a "bloc" and were doomed to turn those guns on eachother even if they ended up fighting the west.>>65616670>but why the fuck would you need to do that?Because you are a cheapskate euro army that has inconsistent ammo and parts procurement, deplorable budgets for maintenance and mostly exercises by fucking around in the muddiest patch of land possible instead of simulating intense large scale combat so the gun really only has to work well while dirty for only a few shots per session to pass with flying colors.
>>65614231>>65614575>>65615820The RPD receiver had an expected lifespan of 5000 rounds. Shorter than a 7.62x39 AK barrel.
>>65614231you and every other RPDfag ever fail to consider intended role. A Soviet SAW exists for the few-hundred-yard Leroy Jenkins charge on the objective, where the gunner can expect a lot of sprinting, setting up hasty overwatches, and firing unsupported from the shoulder. The RPK is noticeably much better than the RPD for all these things, which is why it won and the RPD lost. The RPD was also expensive and not very reliable when fouled on top of having longevity issues, so there's three more wins for the RPK if we're keeping count. >inb4 b-b-but muh SOG, muh SADF, muh Rhodiesthe RPD was 10 pounds lighter than the in-theater alternatives like the M60 and FN MAG. If you have to march across all God's creation doing recon, then the RPD is obviously way more attractive than either. Likewise, if maximum mobility is your goal, then the RPK is in turn better than the RPD.
