    3 lb ground turkey
    4 yellow onion
28 oz can tomato, use whatever you like. I used petite diced
1 can beans, whatever you like. I used pinto
salt, pepper, garlic, chili, cumin to taste
serve over fluffy white rice. this can make 7 meals at about 750 calories each depending on toppings

What's your recipe for the lentil curry? I abstain from meat on Fridays and im always looking for something new to add for lunch/dinner.

Missed this one from this post >>65616492

I had venison sausages with homemade red sauce and potatoes for lunch. Soni got plenty of protein for the day. I was in the mood for something simple for dinner. Something that I can have to go with other meals throughout the week. And since I abstain from meat on Fridays, this soup will be great also with some bread and a tin of sprats or herring
    >>
    >>65616492
    >What's your recipe for the lentil curry?
I'm still working on it, but I'm picturing something like Japanese-style curry roux blocks: get a roux going and cook it until dark, then add vegetables, then add spices, then add stock and/or water with diced tofu. Cook lentils separately (always soak beforehand), then combine and let simmer for a couple of minutes.
    >>
    >>65616492
    Nothing special, just some chicken.
    >>
    >>65616317
The candle is a nice touch.

I didn't think to take a pictur but I fried up some garlic, onions, and green peppers. Then poured in a can off corned beef and tomatoe paste. Served over a pile of rice. I like sushi rice so that's what I used.

    >man, I love pickled beets
    >>
    >>65616504
That sounds easy enough. I normally soak my lentils if I preplanned a meal. But I keep a few cans of no salt added lentils (garbanzo beans too) on hand.
I'll have to grab some tofu my next grocery shopping day.
    >>
    >>65616511
That sounds pretty good there, I've done the same, but with potatoes instead of rice.
I love pickled Anything really, but beets, herring, dill pickles and pickled mushrooms are my absolute favorite. Pickled tomato's go great with vodka and friends.

    >I'll have to grab some tofu my next grocery shopping day.
Keep a block or two on hand. Tofu is severely underrated as a protein booster for soups and stews.
    >>
Anyone know any good canned food options?
Most of canned soups are pretty lame at best, but sometimes you find some pearls amongst them. Some mediocre ones can be further enhanced by adding extra things like bullion cubes, extra spam, rice or something.

Like this Hungarian style Goulash soup. These are actually pretty good.
Canned food is cheap, plentiful and lasts a long time. Give me your best canned foods.

I'm fortunate enough to live relatively closely to a bunch of Polish markets. And a few of them sell "condensed" soup but in jars. It's like a progresso, but double the vegetable and grains. And most of the time no bs ingredients. I normally find the Lowell brand.
And honestly my go to other canned foods are also from Poland, Croatia, Serbia, Estonia and so on that I get from those same markets

No problem. They might be hard to find. Only place I ever see them, was at a Polish market. I pickle my own.
    >1 cup water
    >1.25 cups vinegar
    >1 tbsp kosher salt
    >3/4 tbsp sugar
    For the brine
You can add whatever herbs or spices or whatever. These are for the refrigerator so they're not shelf stable. But 2 to 3 weeks in the fridge and they are good to go. They'll last like 6 months or even longer In the fridge. I grow a lot of veggies in the summer so I pickle a lot of them

you're speaking to a guy who can only afford to eat plain rice, and laughs at the rest of the world for having the luxury of restraint
next thing you know, they'll say that japanese isn't plain, spanish & italian doesn't count, and american food is only for "mutts"

i think the saddest part of dealing with those types, was eating what they actually prefer and finding out i eat spicier/herb-ier food by nature
it was their one grasp of culture they had left and it was just a big lie they kept sowing, all because they thought generic comfortfoods were our normal
    >>

Picklebros, you have to start making your own refrigerator pickles. I do onions, eggs, beets, green beans, fucking anything. Get pickling salt and white vinegar, a little sugar, boil it, pour it over the food and seal the jar. Toss that in the fridge and wait a day or three. The longer you wait (within a week or so) the more pickled, obv, but sometimes a day or two gives a wonderful crunch on a red onion, or a nice light brine on a hardboiled egg. It's just so easy.

they aren't eating those comfort foods every day though, like how we don't either

another thing to note is that their exports cater to foreign diets very hard, so if you're just going off of "well i see this at stores/subscription-services", you're getting the "them crazy white people like those weird foods! give them that!"
foreigners eat more crazy kitkat flavors that they do, etc

It's not, but actual homemade Japanese curry is usually pretty bland like most other Japanese home cooking. One of my Japanese friends brought his kids to the US a while back and they couldn't even handle carbonated drinks because they were too "spicy". I had to remove almost all seasoning except a little salt, sugar, or onions sauce from everything I cooked because they had apparently never eaten anything more flavorful than white rice and watered down miso soup.

Eastern euro food is rarely spicy if that's what you mean by bland (with the exception of Hungarian food which is frankly it's own thing). Still pretty flavorful if you ask me, with emphasis on savory, salty or sour, but I'm biased. No native hot spices outside of mustard and horseradish and those tend to be used as condiments and not as ingredients in the food itself. OTOH we put raw garlic on fried bread and eat pickled hot peppers...
Also once you go past 51° north or 22° east theres dill in or on everything.

Sort of pickle-adjacent, I picked up a taste for pik nam pla in thailand, basically fish sauce with bird chili, some regions use garlic too. I like to pack a jar with garlic and shallots, all thinly sliced, and dona fish sauce/chili soak. Not really pickling, but the mega salty fish sauce soaks into everything and it's amazing.

that is actually pretty tasty and nutritious other than the lack of green leafy vegetables
chop up some broccoli florets and boil them for about five minutes in the soup

when I feel shit or had a long day at work and haven't prepped, what I do is get a pound of chicken thigh, a carrot, a large onion, a cup of peas, some garlic, and some herb mix, chop all that into bite-size chunks and throw it on the pot until it reaches a roiling boil, then add a head of broccoli chopped up until the broccoli stems are just forkable. done.
a simple and mindless formula I can virtually cook on autopilot.
