Will playing VR shooting games help me develop good aim, or are they more likely to fuck me over due to how different the handling of real firearms is? Anyone here with experience in both willing to share your thoughts?Never had a real firearm in my hands before, but playing some of these gun range games/simulators got me interested in picking up shooting as a hobby for real.
my experience was that vr gun games are not even 1% like holding a real firearmit might help if you have the HEC of a child in some general sense
>>65600437You can afford vr why not guns
>>65600437You won't develop the same muscle memory because you are not holding an actual gun. I did find it helpful for improving speed on target for pistol shooting, but worthless for rifle
>>65600472I don't live in a free country, getting a gun here involves acquiring a license and surrendering to random surprise home inspections by the police
>>65600437They dont. Though some of them might educate you on how they work, where the controls are etc
>>65600437it's a cool visual simulation but it's completely different in just about every way. It's the same as swinging swords in a VR game; it's completely different than in real life because there is zero weight.
>>65600472Anon, how much money do you spend per year on shooting-related stuff? That is, a gun (initial cost), ammo (running cost), range (running cost), transport to range (running cost). Now please tell me how long it takes to spend, say, a thousand bucks.
>>65600555I try not to think about how much the ammo costs whenever I go. I can easily go through $100 per trip. I still have 9mm I bought in bulk during Trump’s first term when prices went way down.
>>65600437there is no weight to the weapon or realistic trigger feel. That alone messes it up. With two handed weapons the unrealism extends further, as in real life there are four points of contact (you) use to stabilize the weapons for accurate aim>the hands>the chin>the shoulderin VR only the hands exist on a standard motion control. Only thing I can even think the VR experience teaches you is how to use mechanical sights and you could realistically simulate adjusting optical sights for distance Best use I have found for VR in general has been to ignore the motion control completely (no hands), use traditional controls like mouse+keyboard with seated position and play regular first or third person games forced into full 3d. The magic of VR comes mainly from the goggles, of being inside the game world. As opposed to peeking into it through a tiny little window that is the standard flat screen monitor
>>65600472>You can afford vrVR isn't all that expensive anymore, you can get a decent headset second hand for $200
>>65600437not in the slightest. there is a lot of technique that goes into holding a handgun, maintaining an even and consistent grip, and smoothly pulling the trigger. you'd be better off training fundamentals with an airsoft pistol.
actual shooting, noit helps with making you aware of your surroundings and body movements if that makes any sense

>>65602125>>65603532Sweet.
Will jerking off to porno make me good at sex?
the aim reflex with normal sights actually yes VR helpsthe weight and amount of force you need to actually operate the gun, pull and release the slide etc VR helps not at all
>>65600555If you stick to plinking with .22lr, $1,000 goes an awfully long way.
VR gun stuff is fun as fuck but no substitute to the real thing. No real trigger pull, no weight, no recoil, no concussion, no hot brass down the back of your shirt, reloads are far from reality. And most importantly no real sight picture since no depth of field, so your eye sees notch, bead and the target all in focus at the same time.
>>65604279Yes
>>65600437I don't know about other VR controllers but on the Valve Index they actually intentionally make the angle of your virtual hands slightly different than your real hands.Take off your VR headset and compare the position of your virtual hands in 3D space to your real ones.I think they do this so people whose only experience with guns is VR games will end up learning incorrect muscle memory and miss when they fire a real gun.
>>65600437No they're just a simulator. But they're really fun, don't get me wrong. I love playing the CS:GO maps in VR. And it's good as a game too, it's just not training.
>>65609337Nah, real shit will be just like the simulations
>>65600437>Will playing VR shooting games help me develop good aim, or are they more likely to fuck me over due to how different the handling of real firearms is?You cannot learn to ride a horse by playing skyrim. If you want to practise firearms handling without going bang practise point shooting facinga full length mirror dry firing with a snap cap.Again video games will teach you abolutely nothing related to firerarms use anymore than riding a horse in skyrim will teach you to ride or playing baldurs gate will teach you fencing. Where they CAN be useful is teach small unit tactics, stuff like close combat but that is very boring and not really to do with firearms.
>>65612810>Nah, real shit will be just like the simulations'Real shit' usually means you are shot and you have no idea where the bullet even came from.r. combat veteran
>>65600542>there is zero weight.For now
>>65600437Less than playing a MotoGP game will make you a champion racer. You're better off buying a blowback airsoft or BB gun.
A big part of learning to shoot it training you hands how to grip your weapon and pull the trigger in such a way as to not throw off your shot, a really common mistake I see with people that have never shot at the range is torqing the gun down and to the left when they pull the trigger and throwing off their shot. You need and actual gun firing actual projectiles to train that out.
>>65600437Nope.Even if you dial it in, the majority of the alignment is off so you're not really gaining any good muscle memory. It can help you be more away of flagging your friends in an active environment. But it's not like how driving sims can help you learn to drive a real car.
>>65615475Verstappen got good with simulators, it's just a matter of time until gun sims are good enough
>>65600449this. as a vr enjoyer & shooting at least twice a month I can confidently say that there is no overlap between shooting firearms and playing with plastic doll toys in pretend 3d land.
>>65600525So, either do that or fuck off
>>65600525Why do you care about learning to use one then? Go buy airshit like all the other coping Euros and Asiatics. Idk why these "people" are always so fascinated by knowing how to use a gun anyway. You aren't getting one and if you do it'll suck to own and shoot it and it won't be anything cool like us mutts have. Cope and seethe lmao
>>65620268This
>>65618618There is a good reason I used motorcycles as an example and not cars.
>>65600437Mixed bag. Overall I think VR shooters are quite good and you will do a somewhat reasonable manual of arms and kit management. If you have a stock for your controllers you can be very stable. You can 3d print them and even use a real buttstock or folding stock if you do the controller adapter and then attach a buffer tube or rail.
>>65618618All of the weight/recoil complaints could be compensated by using a custom weapon controller that uses compressed gas to cycle. Airsoft has pistols that have moving slides. The military has a serious version of a time crisis arcade lightgun cabinet.
>>65600437I feel like it helped at least a bit with handgun presentation but you can also just practice that yourself in your room. They sure are fun though
Playing space pirate trainer, H3VR and Payday 2 taught me how to aim with both hands and eyes independently. Dual glocks go from worst to best guns in PD2 when you can headshot two motherfuckers at the same time.
