Ocean liner fans rejoice! The Queen Mary reopened for hotel guests in May and in June, I had the privilege of spending two nights on board. I'll be uploading my album of the ship over the next few days and discussing the history of the ship that I learned while onboard.
How do these large cargo backpacks compare with a bicycle trailer? I need to haul 100kg of cargo on a bicycle
Disasters never have one root cause and neither did the destruction of cycling. But I know some important milestones in the decline and fall: 1. COVID 19. Enough said. 2. Full suspension mountain bikes. Enough said. 3. Reddit. Enough said. 4. Twitter. Enough said. 5. British "people". Enough said. 6. The d-tch. Enough said. 7. The state of Utah. Enough said. 8. Zwift, Peloton, "Spin Class", and other cancer. Enough said. What were some other key moments?
A 17-year-old German teen has been living life as a modern nomad, leaving his parents’ house to live on trains and travel all over his country. While most 17-year-olds are only just beginning to consider the idea of leaving the nest, Lasse Stolley has already been on his own for over a year and a half. Convinced that his school studies were already behind him, he convinced his parents to allow him to leave their home in Fockbek, Schleswig-Holstein to embark on a unique train-hopping adventure. It took a lot of convincing, but they eventually agreed, and for the last year and a half, the German teen has essentially been living on trains, traveling all over his home country, working as a self-employed coder during the day, and sleeping on night trains at night. “I’ve been living on the train as a digital nomad for a year and a half now,” Lasse told Business Insider. “At night I sleep on the moving Intercity Express (ICE) train and during the day I sit in a seat, at a table and work as a programmer, surrounded by many other commuters and passengers. I travel from one end of the country to the other. I’m exploring the whole of Germany.” He gave into his wanderlust in 2022, selling most of his possessions and packing what was left in a 36-liter backpack that he has been carrying with him ever since. Minimalism and resisting the urge to acquire new stuff are an essential part of his lifestyle, as he needs to take everything with him wherever he goes. It’s not always easy, but he has found a way to make it work. https://www.odditycentral.com/news/german-teenager-left-parents-home-to-live-exclusively-on-trains-for-the-last-year-and-a-half.html https://www.businessinsider.de/leben/bahncard100-17-jaehriger-lebt-seit-jahr-2022-in-den-zuegen-der-bahn/
What the fuck is wrong with these mongoloid slackers? They completely underschedule longhaul trains everywhere outside the NEC so almost no one can use them for shorter trips and then wonder why ridership is in the shitter. Each route should be minimum 3x a day per direction.
What is the intent behind statements like "I'm not a cyclist, I'm just a person who gets around by bike"? At a surface level it is obviously meant to (proverbially) throw other cyclists under the bus, but to what end? Would it somehow appease the anti-bike people if the person "blocking traffic" didn't agree to be referred to by the word "cyclist"?
SS United States to be sunk, creating the world's largest artificial reef. RIP to one of the greats.
>wears a rolex daytona while driving, just like paul newman Fine >wears a rain coat when it's raining, just like gene kelly Fine >wears gym shorts at the gym, just like wilt chamberlain Fine >wears aviators just because, just like val kilmer in top gun Fine >wears tacticool ballistic nylon cargo pants when working, just like steven seagal in under siege Fine >wears cycling shorts when cycling Whoa wait WHAT NOOOOO YOU CAN'T DO THAT YOU TRYHARD WHAT IF SOMEONE THINKS YOU'RE LANCE ARMSTRONG AND YOU WOULD HAVE TO TELL THEM YOU'RE NOT A PROFESSIONAL RACING CYCLIST THEN THE UNIVERSE WOULD EXPLODE NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!
GPS used to be fancy, and is now affordable Carbon frames used to be fancy, and are now affordable Carbon aero wheels used to be fancy, and are now affordable Hydraulic brakes used to be fancy, and are now affordable Wireless shifting used to be fancy, and is now affordable Good tires used to not even exist, and are now available albeit a little expensive Lighting used to be heavy and annoying, now it clips to anything and you can light up the road with something the size of your thumb Wide range cassettes used to be unimaginable, now some lazy people are even going 1x because they got filtered by 2x It seems like it's all been done. Seriously, what's left. What else is there to improve? We even got bonuses like thru-axle, 3d printed saddles, internal routed everything, and aero frames/cockpits, which let's be honest, you weren't really expecting were you? Can the cycling industry outdo itself or is it now a plateau of stagnation?
How in the fuck are they pulling this shit off? These commies are making us look like clowns! What is the reason for this?!
I want to strangle every single big buck roadie fred and especially every single downhill-bike-in-a-park pomp who rides around just to do chainsaw sounds with their bicycle's very very expensive hub. "Give way, the asshole is coming!". Like, if you wanna make motorcycle sounds, get an actual motorcycle. A Harley actually sounds cool. A freewheeling bicycle sounds supremely annoying, and also means you are a weak shit who is not pedalling. Fuck you, go ride into a river.
Is there still a fixie subculture anywhere out there, or am I showing my age? Im still enamored with the whole “fixie punk” aesthetic. Considering jumping back on social media is there are still people doing this. But I realize its a niche subculture from the early 2000’s thats been made fun of since day 1.
Post your favorite or most used train station or bus stop. Once a year or so I like to start this thread, it usually ends up pretty interesting.
An entry level new bike, that is agreeable to ride, not dragged down by antiquated standards like QR, that you won't regret buying, nor immediately feel the urge to swap out half the components because of cut corners, cost approximately USD $1500 at standard retail prices as of late 2024, give or take a few hundred (depending on the finer details). Now, the prices are going to go up by at least 20%, and the smaller independent brands are going to go under as only the largest players will have the spare cash to ride out the sudden loss of consumer confidence. The most interesting and original bike products will simply disappear from the market permanently until the next wave of prosperity (which may be entirely concentrated somewhere far away and foreign, so that only the wealthiest of your peers will be able to import and use such goods). How does that make /n/ feel?
I am a railway fan from Moscow. In my free time, I make videos of trains, subways, and transportation. Ask questions about my activities, and the transport of my country, stereotypes, in general, everything that is interesting, I will try to answer.
Is riding on top end groupsets if you're not a top end cyclist stolen valor? Or is this sour grapes? What groupset would you ride if you could get any groupset you wanted for free, but when/if you sold the bike you would have to price it as whatever groupset you ride now. That is, if your financial circumstances were no different and you were subject to the same "rules" as you currently as in terms of other people judging (because we all know unlimited wealth begets shamelessness), what do you choose?
Why weren't these a thing more often in the heyday of railroads? >gives freight trains an additional source of income >passengers can presumably pay for tickets less since freight trains usually run on slower schedules >allows for mixed trains without the need to pull a coach from regular passenger service >can be coupled to the back of a regular passenger train during periods of high demand, the crew will enjoy the added privacy too >lonely freight train crews will enjoy the additional company >can be outfitted as extra crew accommodation when not in revenue service
>*combines the aggressive solipsistic entitlement of an exurban helicopter parent SUV karate lessons karen with the sanctimonious humblebrag better-than-you instagram mentality of a childless upper middle class urbanist in your path (literally in your path because it's in your physical path being as expensive and space-hogging as an actual car, while being as slow and annoying and needy and pointless and "look at me" as a dutch bike, in everyone's path) in your path* >*heh, nothin' personnel kid, as in, look at these kids of mine that I am effectively using as human shields, so give me everything in return for nothing or you're a monster and I will have you cancelled for not buckling immediately and catering to my massive sense of entitlement, kid* When did cargo bikes go from being a crusty, get-it-done, no-nonsense niche improvised delivery tool for reasonable humans, to being the single most punchable conspicuous consumption fashion accessory in the history of wheels? Also, cargo bikes hate thread, and yes I took my meds thanks for the reminder though
This thread is for talking about railways, and things related to railways, in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland - that means we're all about big intercity trains, modest rural trains, long freight trains, trips, tracks, trams, subways, stations, you get the idea. Trains are cool. If you're planning a journey, take a look at the nationalrail.co.uk/ journey planner - tell it where you're headed from and to, and it'll show you your options before handing you over to a train company so you can buy a ticket. Doesn't matter which train company, they'll all charge the same price for the same seat on the same journey. Overseas visitors - trip.com and thetrainline.com are your best option. Here's a few links: ~New rolling stock currently on order, listed (trainlogger.co.uk/units/) ~A Visual History of Railway Rolling Stock in Great Britain (gaelan.me/br-stock/) ~The Man in Seat 61 (seat61.com/) - easily the best rail travel resource out there. ~Geoff Marshall (youtube.com/@geofftech2) - likes trains. Mostly harmless. ~Jago Hazzard (youtube.com/@jagohazzard) - London train history. Ditto. ...and some cool 'open data' stuff: ~Realtimetrains (realtimetrains.co.uk/) - live train timetables: ideal for keeping on top of ETAs and platforms. ~Openrailwaymap (openrailwaymap.org/) - not quite 'Google Maps for railway infrastructure', but close. ~TIGER (https://tiger.worldline.global/home/) - live departure boards. ~Traksy (traksy.uk/live/) - live signalling information. ~London Underground Live (www.londonunderground.live/) - a real-time, geographically-accurate Tube map. I flew down to the Bay Area to take a journey on the Niles Canyon Railway's mysterious and rarely traveled Eastern branch aboard the M200 Railbus. The last of its kind still operating, the M200 once served the California Western Railroad as a literal schoolbus for children. Today is its first publicly available excursion in several years.
Anyone else feels like absolute shit after crashing? it's not even the pain of it it's just the faith in your ability slowly dying inside. When I was younger it was whatever but now it feels like someone chipped away a chunk of confidence.
Are there any actual disadvantages to them? They seem to perform as well as standard bike frames but with the advantage of being easier to mount and dismount without the top bar getting in your way. I know they were originally marketed to women who wore skirts because the top bar on traditional bikes got in the way and exposed their panties but it never quite made sense to me why these weren't just the "default" frame style in the first place, especially since most utility bikes and pretty much every single E-bike on the market uses this style of frame.
Old thread from 2023 finally hit bump limit >>1955863 New thread. "Cycling infrastructure" is harm reduction. But not in the way you probably think. The anti-bike crowd considers riding a bicycle on public roads as an offense against the interests of motorists. An so, they wish to create infrastructure to reduce cycling (harm). Yes! Those who advocate for "separate but equal" are (whether they admit it or not) working against the interests of bicycle users: -The American Automobile Association strongly supports bike lanes -Countries that place responsibility on car drivers have 70-90% fewer fatalities per billion km traveled by bike. This is of course beyond the pale, drivers must always have total immunity. But hey, look, green paint! We solved safety! -The true purpose of bike lanes is to neutralize the opposition by corrupting the discourse. Don't support bike lanes? Then you must not care about safety! -Bike lanes have a curious pattern of appearing where they are superfluous, and vanishing as you approach potential traffic conflict zones. This way, when you get run over by a dump truck making a turn, it's your fault! You shoulda been in the bike lane that wasn't there! In conclusion: bike lane activists hate cyclists and want to eradicate cycling as a form of transportation.
hey /n/ this is my cat rupert i was thinking about taking him on the bus to see the sights of the city but i couldnt find any rules on it, do you know if can cats go on buses i have a cat carrier but would he be allowed out to see out the window?
Post your ride during sundown Post your favorite lights and light setups Do not: Be a hater Talk shit Post daylight ride photos
The Electra Townie is apparently the best selling bike in America. I figured it would've been some gravel bike or hybrid but nope, it's actually just a cruiser/commuting bike with a really weird seating position (even for cruiser standards). Anyone ever ridden one? I just got one used for about $150 as a daily urban rider but the weird tube angle is starting to give me second thoughts but I haven't had a chance to ride it yet. What do you velophiles think of these things?
Anyone here into it? Or even just into collecting models of trains. This shit is so expensive only codgy old boomers partake.
Now that wider tires on road bikes are the default and you can barely even find a rim brake bike for sale anymore (other than at the antique store), how long before Big Cycling realizes there's no more upgrades to sell and if they want to continue selling bikes now they have to promote thin, high pressure tires and turn of the century frames as an improvement (complete with convincing-looking data presented by convincing-sounding "engineers")
We had to destroy the plane in order to save it edition. Crashes year to date: https://aviation-safety.net/database/year/2026/1 Last thread: https://owo.vg/n/thread/2062242/
I’ve always wanted to live the mid-20th Century experience of riding a Pullman Sleeper hauled by a steam locomotive roaring through the night and while I have been fortunate enough to ride steam excursions many times and even do an overnight ride on an original Pullman car, I’ve never been able to do them together. Is there anywhere in the world where I can actually still take an overnight train hauled by a steam locomotive? The closest I’m aware of is the modern Orient Express being steam-hauled through Hungary as a one-time thing in 2017 and the Cumbres and Toltec possessing a restored tourist sleeper coach (idk if it’s ever been used in that role).
The Amtrak redemption arc continues? >https://media.amtrak.com/2026/04/amtrak-takes-big-step-towards-new-long-distance-trains/ >It’s official! We’ve started the procurement process for Amtrak’s largest-ever Long Distance train order. >Our customers deserve the best, and this new fleet will move us full speed ahead into a new era of American train travel. >We’ve issued a formal request for suppliers to bid on the new Long Distance fleet replacement contract. Interested carbuilders are now preparing their proposals for submission. Following an extensive evaluation, we plan to announce our selected supplier by the end of 2027. >This once-in-a-generation fleet replacement program was developed in close coordination with the Federal Railroad Administration, with the goal of modernizing overnight and cross-country travel for a fleet that includes many cars today approaching nearly 50 years of operations. >The program calls for more than 800 new railcars across 14 routes.
>ride bike on road >those stupid selfish cyclists disrupting traffic >ride bike on sidewalk >those stupid selfish cyclists trying to run over pedestrians >advocate for bike lanes so everyone gets their way >those stupid selfish cyclists wasting our tax dollars making everything about themselves There are jackass cyclists like there are jackass motorists and jackass pedestrians. Yet we get the hate because we’re trying to be both economically and environmentally efficient while getting to places as soon as possible? >t. a cyclist who uses the sidewalk because there are no bike lanes, people hardly use sidewalks, and i don’t wanna risk car accidents
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KKzuHZoRguY Bitter, smug failed bike shop owner lectures everyone on why his entitled customers were the real problem and why you really do need a new $3k carbon road bike instead of just a chain and cables for your old steel beater.
Just saw this Japanese train sim about to come out and it looks pretty kino. Got me thinking about other vidyas that might appeal to regulars here. Some that I enjoy >American/Euro truck simulator >OpenTTD >SimRail >Flight Simulator >Bus bound I never found any cycling games that really scratched the itch, either too arcadey or boring race team management stuff. Would quite like an open world to cycle around, with ability to spec bikes, train avatar fitness and maybe set up some touring or bike packing trips. Feel free to share any more
>take job interview >"Do you have Reliable Transportation?" How do you explain that your bike is "Reliable Transportation" in the High Figgies Job Interview?
Quick reminder you should not own any electric vehicles, unless you live in a house on a large plot of land where you store batteries in a shed large distance apart from your home.
What is it about steam engine chugging sound that makes it so soothing? I really like hearing it, but I can't explain why.
Does anyone else love good bike stuff but hate how much moralizing has gone into what bike parts/standards are socially acceptable to use? I miss the good old days when the most controversial thing in cycling was not am I a mean judgmental asshole for having something even $1 more than the worst possible piece of shit death trap BSO, but rather, whether you should eat bananas before you ride, or how much water you should be drinking. Can you imagine how much better things would be if we focused on things that matter like whether it's stolen valor for a 50 year old cyclist to date a 25 year old cyclist? Most of all I want misguided luddites to fuck off to the netherlands and stop shitting up a perfectly good thing. There is literally nothing wrong with dicks, crabon, aero wheels, lycra, extremely bright lights that blink, and stuff like that. And furthermore you aren't making things better for cyclists by performatively hating people who enjoy cycling. You're always going to be the annoying faggot who should get off the road (or get off the sidewalk for some of you). Even if you scream how much you hate Castelli gear as you bleed out on the pavement underneath some karen in her SUV.
> this cyclist shows up > he slaps your gf's ass while riding his bike > he turns his head back and stares at you while he rides slowly what do you do? you have the choice of one vehicle to get into in 2 minutes
Can someone please explain this shit to me, an out of touch boomer who apparently isn't the right demographic to be brainwashed by my hand computer into committing suicide by I-beam? Why are today's no-good teens so eager to grind themselves into hamburger meat in front of hundreds of commuters? And apparently the thing to do is when your friend gets dismembered you run away and send a message to the group chat about this epic thing that happened, instead of calling an ambulance. It happens at least once a month. When I was a kid the naughty kids would play hookie to waste $4 worth of quarters on street fighter matches against much older kids, we didn't have these tick tocks rotting our brains. Is that what this world is coming to? Can't a kid just play a wholesome game of street fighter while smoking a cigarette and throwing up?
Alright guys, it's time we settled this debate once and for all Do rollercoasters count as transportation? From an engineering perspective they're basically just trains that go on unorthodox tracks so I personally say yes, but please let us know your opinions in the comment section down below, and don't forget to like comment subscribe and hit the bell icon for more threads like this one
post thr modt beautiful train station from all over the world.if you would like i would be happy to see your cities train station.
How retarded would it be to buy one of these as a first purchase? I will get a tailwheel cert before I do. The Champ has always been a favorite of mine.
move around and generate household power and get my daily dose of exercise. Is there any a bicycle can not do?
Can someone tell me what Japanese residential streets are called? I’ve never been to Japan but in videos and anime I keep seeing these narrowish neighborhood streets that lead right up to people’s houses. They’re super walkable even though they almost never have sidewalks, people just walk down the middle of the road. Doors basically open onto the street and there’s almost no on-street parking so the whole thing feels open and free. What’s the actual name for this style of street/layout? Is there a specific term or is it just "normal Japanese residential street"?
Should public transit focus on access or efficiency? Access means you have full access to underused (but possibly vital to some) routes and night/weekend service at the cost of undermining the "public transit is efficient" argument, but efficiency means you cut those routes and timetables. Can't have both in a single system.
why do kayaks not have sails? longboats had sails and rowers, worked out pretty well. with a counterweight at the bottom, some ballast water, perhaps with pumps to balance it out you could put a sail on a kayak.
fuck electronic drive trains fuck ebikes fuck 32" fuck >26" on mtbs fuck 25mm+ on road bikes (unless riding cobbles or gravel) fuck droppers fuck tubeless fuck constant new bb standards, in fact fuck all threadless bbs fuck boa shoes fuck mixing carbon fork with steel frame fuck power meters fuck the industry fuck you if you disagree literally the ONLY good changes/trends/etc of the last 30 years are fat bikes and disc brakes, and disc brakes mostly only belong on mountain bikes thanks for listening
Say that everyone on a commercial jet gets knocked out, except for one passenger. Can a person with zero flight experience land it if they're guided by air traffic control?
In general I prefer older road bikes with rim brakes, exposed cables, mechanical shifting, tubes, weight > aero etc. The modern disk brake bikes just don’t make sense to me. I don’t hate them, if I lose my rim brake bikes and can’t purchase another or parts for my bikes, I won’t stop riding, I will buy a modern bike. But I have never ridden a modern bike. I can’t rent it here and I have no friends with one to borrow. So, sometimes I wonder - are they really that bad as the rim brake enthusiasts make them to be? I mean, majority of the bike riders out there are on modern bikes and they do not complain, they seem happy with their bikes, so bad could they be? So if somebody who has ridden a lot both - which is really the better option and is there even a better option or both are just fine? I do ride XC MTB as well and my MTB is with disk brakes, tubeless, electronic shifting. So, I am familiar with the technology, I like it on my MTB (minus the e-shifting, but that’s how the bike came), but I still think these are not right for the road. But since I haven’t tried, I don’t know. So, am I right it my assumptions or am I missing out and people that are bashing the modern bikes are just contrarians?
A thread to talk about this integral component. Along with tyres a saddle is perhaps the most impactful upgrade you can make to a bike in terms of delivering immediate and noticeable improvements to comfort and ride quality. I'll kick things off with a Brooks related question. Can anyone identify picrel? It has B66 Champion stamped on the side, and is fitted with the old fashioned sprung dual rail system. However, the B66 has a width of 205 mm, whereas this saddle is 175 mm. More like a B17 on top. A conundrum indeed.
small obscure extinct railroads are the best >chemins de fer d'haiti >f.c interoceanico de honduras >f.c interoceanico de mexico veracruz-acapulco >f.c de yucatan >FEGUA and IRCA >North Coast Railroad Marin to Eureka I can't be the only one who enjoys reading about this stuff.
What would be the impact of just banning cars from the roads every Sunday, and letting people freely ride their bikes, walk down the roads, letting children play in the street? Emergency vehicles would be exempt obviously. I am not really anti-car, but surely 6/7 days of cars completely dominating the streets is enough?
I stopped riding bikes around 2015. Became a cagie and got fat. Recently my son wanted to start riding bike. I went out and bought a cheap 95 specialized rockhopper. Replaced the shocks with a ridgid fork, got new flats to replace the plastic pedals. But when I went to my local bike shop to get some bar ends the guys there told me no ones uses them anymore. What the fuck happened? Everything is electric now, nothing is in 26" anymore, no more single speeds, no more 3-by cranksets, no rim brakes. What did I miss in the past 11 years?

"deep aero" rims look stupid and are inappropriate for any bike not actively participating in a race.
Post ITT things you never see. People on public transportation are usually ugly, poor, or otherwise undesireable
Silly /n/ things that happened to you. In high school my dad was messing around with his air compressor after school. He offered to pump my tire up for some reason, and I agreed. So this guy starts pumping my tire up and walks away and does some other nonsense and he blows my tire up. He never learned how to replace it so eventually he just threw it out one day, and I had to walk to school for a year afterwards. Never have an actual sperg as a father bros
I will be traveling to Moab in October and want to do some mountain biking. I have the stamina to ride for 7+ hours, but have never done so at elevation or in the desert heat. Besides making sure my bike in good condition, what else do I need with me to go on some of these rides? are flats common? do I need spare tubes? Whats a good water carrying setup that isnt a camelback or backpack? i hate those What trails can you recommend as a good starter to get my bearings in and get used to the environment. I want to eventually do a difficult trail. There are soooo many bike paths around Moab that I have no idea where to start.
thoughts on Alto? https://www.altotrain.ca/en personally I think it is a shitty project, deeply political and cynical. the timeframe and expense estimates are massive and no real work has been done yet, as is typical for North American HSR. I am all in favor of HSR on the Quebec-Windsor corridor, it makes sense, however as someone who doesn't live in one of the major cities it NEEDS to be supplemented with a good regional service. Unfortunately there is zero political will for that in Canada right now since most of the entire country's population lives in one of the big corridor cities, and the areas outside of it are very conservative and don't give a shit about rail. I think it would make much more sense to focus on improving Via first, giving it its own trackage and improving the quality of the existing corridor services. But Via seems to be coasting by on what they have until Alto comes to kill off their core business - and then what will happen to Via's non-corridor services, or indeed the parts of the corridor that Alto doesn't cover? And there is a massive political operation surrounding Alto to where all criticism of it is heavily suppressed and strawmanned. Although it's not hard to strawman given that most of its opposition is retarded nimby farmers throwing a fit even though we have no idea where the tracks will actually go through yet. But yeah, it's so political that they have routed it through specific cities just because they are tossup ridings and the LPC wants to win votes in those areas. What a mess.
Why does China has so few Railway stations? In total China Railways services around 5500 stations across the entire country, while only 3300 of which provides any passenger service, this include High-Speed stations. SNCF operates around 3000 stations and DB operates around 5600. Both of which are much smaller in scale.
Why do they use flexi-posts in bike paths? Why not actual fixed metal ones designed to stop drivers trying to kill you?
Good news! Funding deadline for the Amtrak Chicago-Moline line has been extended. https://www.trains.com/pro/passenger/intercity/federal-funding-deadline-again-extended-for-chicago-quad-cities-passenger-service/
Have you had any close calls? I was t-boned by a car at speed but just rolled over the hood and had some physio sessions
A/n/ybody use these? I was waiting at a bus stop this morning and someone whizzed past me in one. Any anons recommend them?
So if I fly with Boeing, I get a free horror-themed rollercoaster ride, what do I get with other providers?
anyone has any experience with the Ergotec Ladytown or Trekking handlebars? pics? i hate that they don't have pics of the bars on a bike. i'm looking for some 30-45 deg backswept bars with no upsweep (why the fuck would you have an up-sweep on a bar grip is beyond me) and minimal rise.
What would be carried on this car? I can't decide whether it's for carrying automobiles that they don't want people breaking in to, or livestock that need air?
The most masculine white from of transport is a handcrafted 2-stroke bicycle. The fuel crisis and subsequent collapse will separate the wheat from the chaff once and for all. >b-b-but the government says they're dirty! NGMI. I bet you got the jab, too.
I want to start riding together with my kid and to do that we need to drive out to trails. Do I need a bike rack or can I just take the front wheel off and fit an adult bike and a child bike in the back of a Subaru? What bike racks do you recommend? Ideally roof mounted so I don't have to shill out another $1000 for a hitch.
>drive 30+ minutes down a road >it just stops >no outlet, get rekt nigger the life of a courier is nasty, brutish, and short
First day of a one year bicycle trip. Let's play a game. I'll regularly post, in this thread, pictures of the bike in different places, use your OSINT skills to pinpoint where i'm at. Rules : - Find out the street name in a city or a town name in the countryside ans I'll post boobs. - I'll rarely use another mean of transportation, but when I do I'll only mention the type and duration. - I'll always leave the correct timedate in the filename. - maybe some more rules later.

Major problem with EVs: >gasoline tanker trucks have a legal max limit >EV semis are heavier >this means EV semis will have to carry less gasoline >when everyone switches to EVs, more trips will have to be made to transport the same amount of gasoline Has anyone thought about this? It will significantly increase gas prices.
Anyone in USA have problems riding these? It seems like cops in PA only sometimes care, a few reports on Reddit one saying it was impounded. I want to buy an ausom l2 max but don't want to get raped by law enforcement in Wayne county PA.
I flew this Summer on a An-2 and i was curious if the an-2 is rare, but i don't know because thousands have been manufactured.
>wake up >look at pocket sized rectangle of anxiety >carbrains openly discussing their intent to kill cyclists >"your safety isn't my responsibility!" >"Get your toy off the road!" >see video of car deliberately ramming cyclists or pedestrians >"HAH! high score! Great Job, i hope they can't get up again!" >see car brains actively prevent lightrail and bike paths from being built, add more lanes only >"I'd never take a train, they are disgusting, i want to arrive in STYLE!" >"But everyone needs a car anyway, so what's the point of mass transit?" >"What next? apartments?!?!" what can be done about carbrains and car centric cities?
>be me >be femanon >riding my rigid 90s steel mountain bike >dressed casually, no cycling specific clothes (unless a helmet counts) >on a paved bike path >enjoying the nice spring weather >begin to come up on someone from behind >a fat guy >wearing full cycling kit >including Air Attack helmet >on an S-Works road bike >he hears me approaching and looks back >he quickly looks forward and starts pedaling as hard as he can >I'm keeping pace with him without even trying >he keeps looking back at me >literally every 5 seconds he looks back >looks visibly distressed, as if afraid that he is going to be passed by a girl on a mountain bike >he keeps looking back every 5 seconds or so and this goes on for several minutes >we get to a climb >he slows down to an excruciatingly slow pace so I pass him immediately >when I get to the top of the hill I look back out of curiosity, he is only a third of the way up at best >a few minutes later, stop at one of my favorite rest stops, a nice park overlooking a lake >about ten minutes later, fat guy passes by >stares at me as he passes >a few minutes later, get back on my bike and resume my ride >not long before I've caught up to fatty again >he looks back and sees me >he immediately stops, gets off his bike, turns it upside down, and starts spinning the wheel as if inspecting it >clearly pretending to have mechanical issues to justify stopping, when really he just doesn't want to be passed by a girl on a mountain bike >ask him if he is okay or needs help with his bike >"yes I'm fine thanx. just having a bit of a rest" Pic related, looks almost exactly like him.
Will America ever get a major high speed rail system? >What will it look it? >How long may it take? >How fast will it go?
This coming summer (2027) I will be going on a 3 and a half month hitchhiking trip from Lisbon, Portugal to Istanbul, Turkey. I am considering doing some trainhopping in Eastern Europe, but for the most part I am unsure. Any advice in regards to train hopping in general? Should I even consider it at all? For some background: > 19y/o male > Some experience doing small trips in Europe, never trainhopped before > EU Citizen (Austrian)
Recently I bought old Litespeed Vortex frame from 2005 with the intend to build it with modern components and ride it, but now I have some second thoughts. I find a lot information online about how these frames (and other old Litespeed/Ti frames) are prone to cracking and the specific model (Vortex) doesn’t make it better because it’s made of Ti-6Al-4V alloy, which seems even harder to work with and prone to cracking the welds. I bought the frame with the intend to use it and ride it hard, but if it’s dangerous to do so, I would rather let it hang on the wall. If the frame do crack, how would that happen - can it fail all of a sudden catastrophically and disintegrate on descend or will it crack, but still hold structural integrity for some time allowing me to stop safely? If it’s the latter, I wouldn’t care that much.
Listen, I don’t hate e-bikes. I have one and ride it sometimes. Shit’s fun in a different way than normal cycling But what in the -fuck- is up with the frame choices normies make? You’ll see grown men on a medium frame with 20inch wheels. That cannot possibly be comfortable. What is the thought process here?
If you are on the left and are for less cars and more bike lanes and trains, you may want to reconsider your position on crime and homelessness. In recent years, democratic politicians have insisted that a more compassionate approach to homelessness and crime meant not enforcing laws. As a consequence, you have had a dramatic uptick in public nuisances, sex crimes, theft, and assault on public trains and buses. This is especially dire for the Democratic Party, since it affects its core constituent the most, women. It’s so bad, even women like Ana Kasparian, of the Young Turks, said she felt politically homeless after experiencing sexual assault by a homeless person. If Democrats cannot return to more sensible polices on crime and homelessness, people with begin to reject the idea of mass transit and walkable cities more and more.
