Soul vs. soulless
There's at least one left in my province, and right under it is a payphone.
>>2079948An urban environment must certainly have done a number on you if you have any special and even positive feelings about street lights and feel offended by an update.
>>2079994not op but modern street lights are way too fucking bright, the color temp is glaring, and they have worse shrouding/lensing so you get fucktons of glare but less of the light actually hits the goddamn ground so you can see where tf you're goingand cities all over are cheaping out on signage so they dont use reflective paint anymore, road signs are plain matte instead of reflective, so despite the harsher and more widespread lighting NO ONE CAN SEE SHIT
>>2079994>doesn't knowThis is why you lash out.
>>2079994>typing out something this LED-fed
>>2079994imagine outing yourself like this
>>2080004imagine letting a street light live rent free in your head.
mercury lamps were peak soulyou will never see green tokyo again, it's as sickly white as every other city now because of the ledsand not cfl's "so bad it's good" charmingly sickly, just bland
>>2080008Street lights live rent free on my street
>>2080009>you will never see green tokyoI wont ever see tokyo. You need to be a raging urbanist and motorist to go there or be takeshi.disgusting.
>>2079994I have to wear a cap at night cause they're blinding.
>>2080014Move away from towns. It does wonders for your mental state and also hardly any cagers.
>>2080011incorrect. lighting incurs some of the largest portion of department/ministry/etc of transit operational budgets
>>2080017I live in Europe. there's no "away from towns" here. I can walk to the next town over in half hour.
>>2080023I mean that's also true here in America in many places. I can also walk to the next town over in less than a half-hour, both towns have their own names and governance, but are both are considered part of the same city/"metropolitan area"
>>2080021Incorrect sweetheart. That's not rent. Try again.
>>2079948Good ol' HPS
>>2080035Also I forgot to add, the lamps in picrel have been replaced with LEDs.
>>2080023I do live in europe too, next town is more like 3/4 to one hour of walking for me but that is not the point. I can sinply choose my commute and and other trips to not lead me through town or if the trip has to end in town, take the way in that means least urban environment. Unless it's all one fused continuous city you can avoid those places.
>>2079948boomers will be subjected to this and see nothing wrong with it
>>2080034still incorrect. a lot of those lights are not owned by the city itself, and are installed and serviced by subcontractors. the city essentially rents the lights
>>2081002"essentially" as in it's not true at all but you're running with it anyway
I like the ones that turn purple
>>2079999And because cheap led light create a lot of glare and are harsh on the eyes, the most common response is to create lights that are even stronger, and cars headlights are even more bright. Walking after sunset becomes a game on how much you can protect your visual field until you are bored by the sheer intensity of cold lights. And here it is: a sundown city without the need for weapons.
What are these greenish lights?
>>2080035wholesome
>>2081950 regular fluorescent lights photograph as green-tinted. or at least they do with physical, chemical process film.
>>2080014i use tinted ski goggles
>>2079948Dude they're so bad in the city I live in. It rains all fall and winter here and the lights are too dim to actually light up the street. But bright enough to reflect off the wet roads and literally blind you as you drive through some of the neighborhoods. Its fucking awful
>>2081950mercury vapor, present in the some of the older fluorescent bulb types
>>2082038its a perfect example of the non-enshittificaiton but just abjectly awful engineering of everything modern. a 5c diffuser could have fixed it instead of using a 37$ tempered glass orbi recently read that most street lights even use rgb led sets instead of just a given color of LED. why? because engineers are just incredibly stupid and can't think past the first page of DigiKey. it's not a cost thing. they are just bad at their jobs
>>2082046>i recently read that most street lights even use rgb led sets instead of just a given color of LED.if that's true, then that results in fucking HORRIBLE color rendering (thus low CRI). there's a reason "white" LEDs exist. That's also what some people do, buy RGB LED strips and use as room lighting. Colors of objects in the room often look fucked completely.I just made picrel, the spectrum of three R, G, and B LEDs is very different from a single "white" LED.
streetlight autism
>>2079994>if you have any special and even positive feelings about street lights and feel offended by an updateI feel called out. There's an old soulful streetlight not far from my window and seeing the first snow illuminated by cold white just wouldn't be as comfy.
>>2082055lucky. there's an led security light on the building across from my window and as usual for modern retard lighting, there's no shroud on it so it just shines in every direction like a fucking marine buoy
>>2081937crackheads dont
>>2083028they arent anti crack they are anti heroin. get your facts straight. the crackhead fears no color of lamp for they smoke that shit. the purple light is so heroin and other iv drug users can't find a vein properly
(((>>2079994)))
>>2079999>less of the light actually hits the goddamn groundThis is the real problem. Regardless of light source, modern street lights are just worse designed. That they also happen to be cold color LEDs is annoying but they are objectively less effective than older designs even when they use warmer colors or xenon/halogen/etc lamps instead. Modern engineers are simply retarded.
>>2083042The purple streetlights are because the internal LED phosphors are breaking down. It's the blueish lighting inside public and retail bathrooms that are meant to stop people finding their veins.
4000K. Endgame.
They just replaced them by picrel; guess it could've been worse...Problem with sodium bulbs is poor (terrible) CRI and consequential ability to tell colors, due to narrow spectrum (which, otoh, is why astronomers like them).
>>2079948>soullessnot just soulless, it is a crime!
>>2079994>reeee stop complaining about prison lightingImagine not understanding the psychological effects of being exposed long term to 6000k+ lighting. New level of stupid unlocked ig
>>2080013>a raging urbanistanondo you realise what board you are ondo you know why this board for a long time and possibly still is listed under "japanese culture" on the homepage
