the point where it actually gets funny is when you pass by them hauling 10 times the weight and volume of what they got in their ebikes by the magic of bungee cords and carry bags alone.
The fact that you only ever see those types once you enter a town strongly implies those fags don't even actually ever use their BSOs but only ride them around town a little bit doesn't make them appear any better either.
To. summarize: They are motorists. Most even have their cargo-bike motorized. All of them are motorists.

    OP is right tho.
The whole problem we're seeing as of late, which is so reminiscent of division, has a very simple root cause: 'Bicycle' being missattributed.
It is a psy-op, conducted by the motorist, to muddy the waters regarding what a bicycle is and what is not. The central motivation behind this is so that they get to conduct false flag operations as 'cyclists' like breaking the law the same as they do when they are using their otherotorvehicles an also so that they get to normalize operating motorvehicles outside of the bounds of the motorist inclusion zone and even in spaces explicitly protected from the motorist. That is why they will take a moped, convince politics, media and lawmakers that it was in fact 'a bicycle' only to then use it to endanger others, be obnoxious, break every law there is and invade pedestrian spaces.
Just think about it: You never see a cyclist blow a red light, ride on the sideawalk or throigh pedestrian zones. Meanwhile you never see the motorists on their e-bike on the road, let alone outside town, you'll only ever see them on the sidewalk, in pedestrian zones and crossing the road at pedestrian crossings.
So if what OP is vaguely complaining about feels like 'division': It is not. the opposite is the case. The motorist, acting on bad motives, tries to LARP as cyclist. And OP is calling it out.
    >>
I mean, I get being annoyed at suburban soccer moms pretending to be having fun while just using their bike as a really poor hauler for their children, but cargo bikes still have legitimate uses and make for good delivery vehicles and such, sounds like you're less annoyed at cargo bikes and more just annoyed at suburban soccer moms (and you're not alone)

    >>
    >>2043075
Not even if it was redundant? Why do you trust a stem, fork crown or blades, steerer? Handlebars?
IMO those steerer / fork failure scenarios are the most terrifying imaginations when it comes to cycling but at the same time you just end up contempt or perhaps even trusting after you went for hundrets of thousands of kilometers without it ever happening. I mean think about it: You saw everything happening, Murphys law in action, and while you saw videos, pics and heard stories: You never saw this thing happening (well ok survivor bias I give people that).
Takeaway: The idea was probably just as unpleasant for any of the pioneers of cycling as it is to us today and as a result those things are traditionally way overbuilt.
    >>
    >>2043077
    As I've argued:
I don't see how this induces any more concern than the concept of a conventional fork itself.
Also what if the linkage was redundant, would that make you less worried?
A car's steering is literally the same construction. It's not convincing how the ball joint would fail. It's a solid honk of heat treated quality steel. On motorvehicle you usually find the bar bent. The joint always fails the same: Rubber boor fails. Water and grime find their way in. Wear starts. The joint gets loose and klunky, as a result the steering becomes very sketchy, vague, shimmies... which is when people feel very motivated to just swap the joint out. At the same time this is still lightyears away from having the linkage physically detach.
The only thing I would like to see here is a castelated nut. I don't trust the nyloc as much. But it should be noted that thanks to the taper the ball joint remains attached even without the nut and takes considerable force to seperate. Also wtf is up with the binder on there?
    >>
    >>2043087
It's an open ball joint. I have one and even I'm admittedly somewhat worried about the design. Grit gets in there, it'll wear down the joint, and then it can pop off. And then you have no steering, and a linkage that might drop into the road and spear into the asphalt, lifting the whole apparatus (or else bending something vital).

I think the design could be better, with a thick metal ring over a closed joint with a rubber seal over that to prevent dirt-and-grime from getting in there.

Admittedly weight and complexity goes up, along with cost, but this is your steering we're talking about, carrying stuff that's really important (plus you).
    >>
    >>2043180
    That sounds stupid.
A bicycle 'self steers' just like a car. The steering geometry does have trail after all.
But in certain situations the geometry of ground surface and steering will negate train and turn the wheels regardless. This is true for both vehicles.
Now the question arises: Do you really think a double track vehicle 'will not fall over' if the full steering lock is applied at speed? It will barrel roll down the road.
But luckily the whole discussion is purely hypithetically as, again, the mechanism shown here >>2043077 is, just like the equivalent in automobiles, is plenty strong and it is literally everything else responsible for the steering that will fail first (like forkends, blades, crown, steerer, axle, wheel... etc.).
    But you insist on
    >Ok so you don't know what you looking at
without providing any argument and while ironically raising suspicion to the fact that it is actually you who has neither experience nor knowledge regarding such designs.

    >grit gets in there
See above >>2043087 . As long as the boot is tight it wont and its a serviceable item.
    >wear down the joint
See above again. If you neglect it the joint will wear.
    >it can pop off
The steering will first become terrifying and then unuseable, prompting you to replace the part, long before it is anywhere near seperation.
    >might drop into the road
it follows that this will not happen because you will stop using the bike and actually be unable to use it long before you reach a point where this would be possible.
You two guys trust picrel, right? It's the same situation: We all made the experience of how bad it fucks you up when it goes and it always goes at the worst moment. It is always the result of neglect and easily avoided. The only thing that is different: It will not warn you and evem keep you from riding when it's nearing that point. Which a ball joint will.

Kraut Space Magic. Basically the perfect bicycle transmission, if you are willing to pay that much and don't need to worry about grams.
    >>
    >>2052050
Oh it's a rohloff? Fine I accept that it IS a bicycle. I still believe it is superfluous. Idk how wide the cargo area is but by the looks of it the guy has less than a third, maybe a qarter of what I habitually carry only on the rear of my normal bicycle on there. At the same time that thing has no rack or panniers or baskets. The low COG might be nice but at least I get to have two 700c wheels.
So all this for what? A less maneuverable bike that is longer, has awkward tire sizes, no rear fender and thus constantly spraying your shit with road grime and mud, no front fender so it can also spray you with shit, all only so it carries less than any normal bike? I bet you even pay a premoum for being the cycling conscikus hipster n shit.
I'm personally interested too in cargo solutions for bicycles. Following the subjects of trailers and actual cargo bikes with alot of interest. But for me to consider a cargo bike a cargo bike it must be able to haul at least as much as any regular bike. Not less. Like wtf. And it should do it in a way that makes no unneccessary compromises. Like I get that it will be a longer bike and I get that usually you need a smaller wheel or remote steering etc. But why just take the fenders away? Does the light go on the seatpost? Fine but he's not even got a dynamo. Yeah sure he can have a dyno hub with brake but meh.

this is motorhomo but I also think it's sort of the limit for comfort if you need to pull uphill. After all you have to mash at a certain point as you can not go arbitarily slow. Also always remember to install brakes on trailers. Either overrun brakes or better brakes with a lever that you put on the bars or both.
Anywaya if I see you haul that uphill, glance at your BB and I see a motor I'll cut you some slack and acknowledge you as a cyclehead.

Cargo bikes have always been more expensive, the attitude you describe is probably more of the heavy "urbanist" push that really started a few years, using cargo bikes as some sort of gotcha when someone talks about when you need to carry something beyond yourself and whatever you can carry on a milk crate tied to the back of your bicycle; yet no one seems to show you theirs or anything beyond stock pictures on flat, even surfaces.

Are we really gonna allow him to get away with effectively saying "nigger rigged"?

After trying a bike trailer I really can't understand the point of a cargo bike. The trailer is removable and easily stored when you're not using it. But with a cargo bike you're stuck with an enormous and awkward platform all the time.

yeah but they dont sell to (you). they make ice cream carts and coffee vending trikes and shit, not vehicles designed for personal use

I had that set up, but after blowing several spokes and finally having my freehub open like a flower, I bought something purpose built for 550 lbs.

    Faggotry. Pure unbridled faggotry.

Wine moms and toddlers on e-cargo bikes have now taken over the UWS/Manhattanville transition zone. I assume at least they paid for something expensive enough that it won't burn down their co-op building in the dead of night because the charger didn't have the 3C stamp of approval

Most of those are like $8k+

That's the point of the thread I think

    For me it's cargo trikes.

I bought an old Babboe Curve E bike and I hate it. It is very difficult to drive, and kind of unsafe to turn. I almost fell on the side when turning. Uitritconstructie is insane invention. Rant off

This thing isn't even being sold as a bicycle and being in Germany there are laws governing how you are allowed to move your bicycle through pedestrian zones
This thing will be used by people whou would otherwise get a car
People using this instead of a car is an incontrovertibly better outcome
eBikes themselves have shown that it's not about being a fatty but simply about the biomechanical limits of the average joe and jane
The eBike makes it so that people whou would not nornally be using a two-wheeled mobility for their specific slightly longer travels (which are many) then do
This creates a much better consciousness for what it is like to be about on a BSO and will result in demand for better bike infrastructure and even segregating not just cars away from bicycles burlt also working on safe/sensible degrees of separation between pedestrians and cyclists with less overall space for c*rs
Extremely neurotic forrester-tier outlook on the world from you
Dont worry, you still get to ride your shitass in your clubrides for your shitass rides - on the road
Now fuck off and dont obstruct improvement and change for life-saving infrastructure designs because you got a fart sitting skewed
    rest in piss john forrester
Rest in Peace - Cyclists that died due to accidents related to wholly inadequate and missing infrastructure planning specifically for bikes and cars that pay attention to their geometric-spatial and dynamic-reactive properties

Why did thid nibba not just use two runs of chains?
One is conn'd to the crankset and a little shaft clamped on further up with an idler cog.
The same shaft has another idle cog on the other side (thus traversing the lateral gap) and goes back down to the inside of the fork and onto the igh cog
The chain tension could be adj. by either two extra tensioning devices (urgh...!) or by being able to adjust the height of the idler pullley to get the inner chain run right and then use either a magic ratio on the outside or a single tensioning device
Only way to do it with zero tensioners is by having a third (!) run if chain that then connectes the run fromthe crankset on the outsude and then run from the igh hub onthe inside
But perhaps I lack imagination here
That situation witb two coaxially mounted igh-cog+crankset-chainwheel makes it really tricky
Perhaps lacking the direct drive igh that other anon mentioned they could have kludged a hammerschmidt crankset on there lol

what a fucking meme GNU/bike (or GNU 'plus' bike as I have recently taken to calling it)

you shouldn't need a TIG though
I think a migger could do it
Perhaps you can even use a stick-shaker
I have an ultra shit frame that I might try using an ultra shit stick welder on
I've never welded and stick is harder to control but the stakes would be lower
