    ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene cables
    >>
    >>2080274
suffer from creep, unlike steel cables
higher friction than ptfe covered steel in lubed ptfe housings
save a couple grams per bike, you'll save by not eating that mixed nuts protein bar, mr frederick cucumberdick
    >>
    >>2080274
what frame is that. I'm a dick brake nazi but I'd have sex with those brakes
    >>
Pretty fuckin sexy even if kinda no reason
    >>
    >>2080276
    >dick brake
oh you're that retard? no answer from me then
    >>
    >>2080289
    >no reason
weight gainz, better feedback, less vibration
    >>
    >>2080291
so fucking marginal that they are imperceptible even to the freddiest of freds
    >>
    >>2080291
Yeah maybe but im looking at my bike rn and thinking “can i be bothered to try this experiment”
    Probably not
    >>
    >>2080274
now that you mention it, whipper snipper cable is cheap and light and slick. i wonder if it would have any problems other than the mating surfaces where it has to actually actuate something. i guess it might stretch faster than steel cable and it might be hard to find thin enough stuff but also you can find people offloading 500ft reels of the stuff for cheap every fall

might try it out when i run out of junk cables
    >>
    >>2080290
    huh? everyone says that
    >>
    >>2080274
a solution in search of a problem.
that frame has a badge on the rear of the seat tube. never seen that before. can't read it except "USA" but the 3 stars suggest the Tennessee flag

its always funny seeing people wig out about weight savings less than one good shit

literally just one day of fasting before riding would save you more weight than this nonsense
    >>
    >>2080290
"that retard", lol. first day on /n/?
    >>
    >>2080275
It always baffles me when people who are completely batshit obsessed with gear dig up some hair-splitting difference between the gear that they are OBSESSED with, and then build this straw man where Guy I Don't Like prefers the gear that is 0.02g lighter for $100 more, and they KNOW all these hair splitting minute details and have violently strong opinions about it, and yet for some reason I'm the bad guy for just happening to own a bike that probably has the better shit even though I never looked into the differences or gave the cost a moment's consideration, I bought this bike because it was black and I liked batman and you're sperging the fuck out and sending death threats to me, the supposed gearhead, because you can't stop obsessing over me and my slightly nicer thing that I don't even know what brand it is but you know the exact USPTO patent number and SKU number and current street price
    >>
    >brakes get hot from long descent
    >cable starts to melt and stretch
    LMAO
    >>
    >>2080274
polyethylene is a trash polymer, high-molecular-weight (or just high density, which is how people in the industry actually call it) or not.
Literally, it's what we use to make trash bags
    >>
    >>2080354
    >UHMWPE is the same as PE
    LMAO
    >>
    >>2080354
    it's a versatile wonder polymer
and uhmwpe compared to regular pe is like 100 octane compared to 80

    Based.
You forgot to mention compressionless though.
    >>
    >>2080351
Yes and your should DIE for it
    >>
    >>2080274
is there no advancements in cable tech? Are we at the peak of cable tech?
    >>
    >>2081270
steel is peak. everything else might be lighter and stronger per weight, but degrades rapidly because at the end of the day, synthetic is fucking plastic
    >>
i want to further add, the next evolution in cable technology is not a better cable, but rather the obsolescence thereof. "brake by wire" will be the natural progression, first wired, then wireless. you'll be able to do all sort of neat shit. ABS, parking brake set, actuation curves, etc. there will still be a hydraulic reservoir, but it won't be up in your handlebars anymore. just like cars.
    >>
Why are you not using wireless braking and shifting? Why are you using these outdated technologies? Why are you poor? Do you want to go to jail? Do you want to go away forever for being such a fucking faggot? Such a fucking faggot who can't even pay for a real drivetrain? Such a fucking faggot that you are literally too poor to function in society?

Maybe what you should do is get a real vehicle, with real systems, that are from this year.

    >>2081270
ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene cables is peak so far
    >>
    >>2080274
Would literally not put rim brakes even on a kid's bike; wouldn't put cable brakes either. Hydraulics are smooth as butter one finger actuation and that's the sole reasonable choice nowadays.
    >>
    >>2081374
i would not put them on a kids bike for the sole reason that resizing the tubes would be a pain in the ass an 8 year old doesnt deserve and if i make them do it themselves they'll get oil all over my floor
    >>
    >>2081377
    >Resizing the tubes
You mean, the hydraulic hoses? Only needs to be done once. Anyway got my old pair of m596 stored for that and got all the tools needed (from china), so not a problem.
The pad alignment on rim brakes, regardless of which type, is a legit pita.
    >>
    >>2081377
    >>2081382
Btw, I didn't even bothered with that; just wrapped them around the handlebar/head tube.
    >>
    >>2081382
    Do wrenchlets really?
    >>
    >>2080276
    They're ee brakes.

    >>2081085
Not sure if they make it any longer, but Yokozuna used to have compressionless brake housing that was 3mm OD, with a 1mm steel cable.
You had to use a special 'step up' ferrule to mate to the stops on the frame, etc.

Definitely in the "questionable weight savings" tier, especially when reducing the amount of housing (long runs of exposed cable) has a larger weight reduction.

    >>2081347
It's the same material as those Berd spokes. Unfortunately it degrades with uv exposure.
    >>
    >>2081883
    >it degrades with uv exposure

Perfect for a night bike then?
    >>
    >>2080274
Nice idea, but ultimately a mere stop-gap solution before we can advance to brake-by-wire tech.

    >>2080275
    >higher friction than ptfe covered steel in lubed ptfe housings
    What a let down.
    >>
    >worse on every aspect but you get to save some grams.
    >>
    >>2082529
    >worse on every aspect except the one it is not.
what did xer mean by this?
    >>
    >>2080274
These must be a pain in the ass to set up right
    >>
    >>2080274
weight of the bike is completely irrelevant. even a steel one its maybe 10% of my weight. it simply has no impact and i don’t have noodle legs
    >>
    >>2081942
oh boy how cool it would be approaching a busy crossing at full speed trying to brake but something distracts your wireless brake signal and nothing happens
    >>
    >>2082683
    Brake-by-wire, fool, by WIRE.
