    >AI this >AI that Who gives a shit, why are we not talking about the actual important things, huh? Is there anybody here that still gives a shit about freedom and privacy in computing? Like the US KIDS act and EU KIDS act for example or all the other regulations in all kinds of other countries (all similar and at same time globally I am sure it's a coincidence right) whose purpose is to make it impossible to use any computer which runs an operating system or any website or other internet service without identifying yourself by using either a document or a government app, and of course this means that you will not be able to develop and distribute any of that without having to become an enforcer of this system, and don't think it only applies to kids because it you don't identify yourself you will be treated as a minor automatically. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XfMB6yzAxKA https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KIDS_Act https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EU_Kids_Act

I suppose this does still exist but like if you compare MrBeast to PewDiePie from back in the day, MrBeast's content is like 100000000x effort and quality (of course he has a much larger/professional team behind it, but this serves a reference of comparison for how the landscape has changed, you basically need to put in real effort. you can't just churn out daily unedited minecraft let's plays, you need to actually need to put effort into creating high-quality original videos) Back in the day there was basically no reason to ever watch a large channel or even a video with a million views lol. Small channels were where it was at and it wasn't hard to find them. It's not as easy to find good smaller channels these days, they still exist but the search keeps getting neutered worse

I'm not talking about a proprietary one later made open source, im talking about one intended to be open source & community developed from the start. Potentially with a governing non profit organization administering it, like there is with other free software alternatives (linux, gnu, kde, etc.). It could be made self hostable by default but with popular servers hosted by larger organizations. Every server could be compiled with their own set of feature patches. But all servers would share the same fundamental framework. Imagine anyone could make a patch that adds a new dungeon to world of warcraft or a new skill to runescape. It would be quite cool i think, no?

So I am looking for the best audio book device so I can listen to audio books (AUX output) The one in the picture is extra crap. What I want is a device that plays MP3s or OGG(not a problem to convert) and remembers the place in the file I stopped on. I also like it to have a jump 1 second back or forward(back is more important) in case I got distracted or want to listen to something that was spoken before. All MP3 players have the nasty problem of jumping to the next song and I definitively do not want that button functionality. What do you sugest /g/ ? PS: Obviously no phone shit and no internet connectivity I really do not want to use some crap spyware geolocation monitoring shitware.

It's quietly an end of an era. The last cable tv and internet provider in the UK (Virgin Media) has decided to scrap their cable network and switch either to their competitor's fibre network or their venture company's (Nexfibre) fibre network. Leaving the now 40 year old cable infrastructure behind. The last stand for the cable network was announced as a 2 gigabit internet service while the fibre network has the potential for 8 and in the future 100 gigabit. The internet infrastructure in the UK is collapsing fast. Despite an initial burst of "altnet" networks the lack of funding has led to consolidation and mergers with most people now back dependent on Openreach based networks along with the UK's censorship and id regimes. The internet is no longer the UK's strong point.

Torture: Quarterly Journal on Rehabilitation of Torture Victims and Prevention of Torture 36(2) DOI: 10.7146/torture.v36i2.170024 https://www.researchgate.net/publication/415134475_Nano-totalitarianism_Brain-computer_interfaces_fusion_databases_and_the_weaponisation_of_consciousness In case you didn't know, this technology is both real, being researched in NATO countries, but also undergoing field testing at this very moment. From what I know, it is being developed in at least the University of Oulu, Finland, where they already had relevant expertise through the development of 6G technology and so-called persuasive technology, which easily veers into coercion. There is at least one, but there are probably two test subjects currently undergoing "treatment" in Finland, one in Oulu (who spreads around notes around town containing his confused ramblings, which happen to loosely overlap thematically, yet not exactly in their content with what the other subject has been fed before). I've spoken to a researcher in Oulu involved with the development of this technology and its practical application protocols. They make a point of trying to argue it is somehow benevolent work, but torture, it is to my understanding, plain and simple. They use a cycle of Chinese-style brainwashing where the target is subjected to forced self-criticism under constant watch in a pseudo-social environment, to methodical humiliation, and conversely, the point appears to be to alternate to creating a Stockholm syndrome kind of relationship with the torturing party.

Google Play Services is quietly "Self-Verifying" and linking your phone number to ALL signed-in accounts without explicit permission. Just a heads up for anyone who values basic privacy on Android. Check your inbox for emails from [email protected]. Without asking for my confirmation or giving me an opt-in prompt, Google Play Services performed a silent background "Self-Verification." It exchanged SIM card identifiers and device metadata with my mobile carrier, grabbed my phone number, and automatically attached it to EVERY Google account logged into my phone. No prompt. No "Do you want to link this?" button. Just a silent background action followed by a notification email telling me it already happened. How to kill this setting on Android immediately (for now) but it will self verify even if turned off Go to Settings > Google (or Google Services) > All Services > Phone Number Verification Find Phone number verification (or Device Phone Number Verification). (Ah, and lovely it automatically appear my phone number even WHEN IT WAS NOT THERE BEFORE!) Once Google steals/verifies the number, it pushes it to your Google account profiles. You need to log into myaccount.google.com/personal-info, click on Phone, and manually delete the number from every single account where you don't want it stored. Modern "self-verification" dark patterns are completely out of hand. Check your settings before Google silently grabs your data too. NO ANDROID IS SAFE: Happened on my Android 10 Huawei, Android 14 Xiaomi and is now requesting on my emulators too...even my tablet... Beware...

It's not something you just think as "Muh economy.." but just being retarded.

Here is what is available to you to solve this problem: >Make recommendations to government on immigration/visa policies >Recommend new laws that might solve the problem >Guidance for tech HR/hiring managers to follow >The power to fire up to 10% of any given tech company's work force Just as big tech has anti-union playbooks, you will be producing an anti-poo manual to keep our companies in the hands of humans. Most of us probably understand that what we are calling "AI" is a total departure from what the term has meant for decades. Yet many people have accepted an underperforming algorithm to be marketed as "intelligent" instead of what is really meant by the term- a thinking machine, something that can cogitate. LLMs and similar tech aren't terribly complicated. Use a weighted grid and essentially generate a semi random path based on input. That's why you can slightly change a prompt, or recrop a photo (pic related) to get wildly different outputs. Science may not know exactly how intelligence works, but I think intuitively, everyone knows that this is definitely not it. I get that this is a contentious topic, but I'm genuinely interested to hear what you all think. If you're pro AI, do you believe it actually is thinking, similar to how a human does? Are you more just hopeful it is the right path and, with lots of money, the Silicon Valley types will figure it out? And anti-AI guys, are you truly anti AI or do you just think it's a fancy text generator? Would you still be anti if what you were being sold was closer than a positronic brain rather than a janky chatbot?

Can someone please explain for a brainlet like me how daylight saving works with a computer and files? Like I was saving some shit up to 2am, and then when it hit 2am, it goes back to 1am, so I was freaking out that the stuff I saved would be out of order when you list files by "Date Modified" which is how I often sort things in File Explorer. Did Windows just shift the dates of all my already saved files back an hour? Does that mean nothing I save has the correct timestamps on it for like six months of the year? I still use Vista btw. Using 4chan all the threads I was in went to 1;59am but than went back to 1am...but their posts all don't shift time over back an hour to accommodate the time change like I think what happens in my PC? As long as Ive been alive I never understand how this shit works.
