AI made something work on a program I was making but in a really, really, bizarre and incomprehensible way. When I actually broke down each step with comment lines, it made absolutely no sense the way it had done it.

It was to do with unescaping and re-escaping lines. Instead of title:contains:cats\: they're cool&&description:omits:dogs easily in one step getting each entry 'title:contains:cats\: they're cool','description:omits:dogs' it was splitting it up into random chunks in a seemingly nonsensical way. Like it would be split into 'title:con','tains:cats','','theyre cool'.

The round trip for any string sent in absolutely worked. Somehow. But the logic wasn't right for a program any human would ever work on.

They also like to send functions into functions which I hate...

Probably a shit place to ask, sorry if I'm wasting time not looking elsewhere but thought I'd ask for your opinions here first, how do you actually get into the github stuff like submitting your code to open source projects? Not really the mechanics of it technically, just.. What projects do you go with? Obviously I'm not gonna start with anything important or popular, but then I don't really know what to look for. I want projects where a beginner can feasibly not waste someone's time by submitting their code. I think github has a "feature request" which I guess are "objectives" but then again, I don't even know which projects to add features to. I'm not necessarily bad at programming, I've just never really entered the world of working on programming stuff with others so I really don't know.
    >>
    >>110180112
some big projects will have tags like "good starter issue" that are supposedly easy to get into, there's no easy answer though especially as working on an existing project means you have to learn how the codebase and procedures work
    >>
okay we have words (and numbers) separated by whitespace. Cool.
I don't even know. Yesterday I thought about building something forth-ish. Will see
But first lets do some tokenization
    >>
    >>110180112
    >Obviously I'm not gonna start with anything important or popular
You absolutely can do this. Your first changes are going to be SMALL, maybe even single line of code changes.
You're probably not going to rock up to some random project and just dump a massive feature change. And if you were, at least state your intention of what you're doing (a lot of projects have an IRC channel or similar), and you'll often get a lot of pointers.
    >>
    >>110180254
Ok I am right before creating actual tokens.
If this works then I JUST need a stack and execute shit. Simple as that.

Today I told my therapist that I am often frustrated and feel like an absolute brainlet when I am coding.
I am glad she didn't ask what I am koding on. i don't want to explain myself why I write a fucking risc-v assembler in HolyC and now trying to build a usable system on my risc-v cpu with that fucking assembler. Holy fuck.

<= instead of < or something.

I'm more just trying to set your expectations of the kinds of changes you'd probably actually do. Start small. I'm not saying literal go for single line of code changes, but sometimes that's just what it is.

Not using jump tables everywhere I could, but if else is fine too.
Now just gotta put tokens on the stack and execute.
I think I will not worry about not error'ing when there is no space after a number. Fuck errors. I don't do errors (tho I am quite impressed with the error handling of my assembler. Holy shit that worked great and almost always reported the correct line number +-1)

So I wrapped my perf counter around the pixel renderer subroutine alone and found it generates only 5 instruction cache misses per line rendered.
At 144 lines per frame, that would amount to about 720 cache misses, but the increase from my previous scalar renderer was closer to 3000.
I'll wrap my previous renderer at a later point to check it, but it seems to strongly suggest that they're coming from somewhere else, perhaps somewhere the emulator is spending more time because of time saved (such as waiting for the next frame render to start).
    >>
    >>110185112
So wrapping the old renderer turns out to be around 3500 cycles per line vs 2500 for the SIMD one, and similar instruction and data cache miss values.
    Progress.

    ive watched this:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MRO1iaEv-LE

    read this: >>110186236

and my idea is to have a sort of progressive encrypting/decrypting executable

you encrypt the executable but with a twist:
it starts all encrypted save for an entrypoint
and as it executes, you decrypt a chunk, the one youre about to execute
and encrypt the chunk you already executed (to reset its state, and to makes things harder to decompile)

ive thought about this years ago, but didnt have a usecase for it
i do see one now. it would make ai-assisted decompilation way more expensive

i hope- expensive enough to make vidyaslop decompilation impractical for non-savvy people
and i hope savvy people have more efficient ways of making money

    whats your thoughts?
me, im vaguely thinking in the direction of mprot, making pages both read write, and execute
and basically encode the program as a whole bunch of strings
probably each string containing the keys for the previous and next blocks, and inlined routines to decode said blocks as they get executed
    probably otp-like, im thinking

the tradeoffs: should accomplish what it says on the tin. force to restart the program thousands of times to get an accurate image of the code. which would make putting together an accurate image of the executable a fucking nightmare. i think this should be enough to make ai-assisted RE impractical for the parasite vibeslopper kind

at the cost of: exploding the size of the executable, which yeah. it sucks. but also its ok bc the lion share of the mem footprint will be assets anyways, so its gonna be diluted down to <10% more mem footprint, i suspect
and at the cost of a performance hit because the decoding will *have* to happen, which means a whole lot of ops, and icache/dcache thingamajigs.
possible to mitigate by selecting how the chunks are subdivided. but then it introduces the problem of function calls not lining up with with chunks

they actually kinda do, in a couple ways
but here im talking about an abstract unit of code

    >>110187061
yeah, but computationally cheaper, hopefully, and opensource?
maybe even better because denuvos & co are about DRM, not RE-hardening proper
and the goal would be to thwart talentless hack sloperator parasites who want to ride off the advertisement efforts of some poor indie dev whos gonna net in 10k sales max anyways

    thats the usecase
not to be absolutely bulletproof bc i expect the compromises would make it unsuitable for the abovementioned usecase, then
but to force RE of a product to be too expensive for the generic tier sloperator retard to oneshot copy something most often quite shit in its own right too, but at least coded with passion and maybe even skill

it wont protect graphical style, assets, but this could potentially protect handcrafted code

there's also an even more restrictive substandard of ada called SPARK similar to MISRA C (which also offers a lot more than rust in terms of safety) except more robust and is meant to be provably correct mathematically as opposed to using static analysis

I think Rob Pike said they were able to have design discussions and development sessions for Go while they were waiting for their C++ builds.
It takes my workstation an hour or more to build some common C++ projects so I know he's not joking. I can legitimately build the Go compiler itself and nearly 100 Go tools that I use in like 5 minutes.
I do that daily, meanwhile I rebuild LLVM only when I absolutely have to. It takes hours and uses 100% of my ram in the meantime.

now i CERTAINLY wont be reading ANY of the philosophy that brought you to this point
    >>
    >>110192747
    btw
philosophy is not something that you can learn
its like the aesthetic sense in artistic pursuits. its something you develop with time

pretending that reading the old moralfags' books counts as becoming one of them
is how we ended up with DEI
    >>
    >>110194182
The only based philosopher was the OG gigachad Pythagoras. The rest of them are products of their times and upbringings.
    >>
    >>110194238
the only teaching i hold true is that:
    > philosophy is the art of asking questions, not necessarily answering them...
'learned that in the 8th grade or something like that

a couple years down the line i read beyond good and evil and i learned the other half of that proposition
    >...that answering questions is most often moralism, not philosophy

needless to say, my fav is nietzche.
because his work is transformative, as opposed to informative
and he had the maturity to not consider his thoughs as final. at the very end at least
he wrote bgae something like 1 years before dying
from what i gleamed of his earlier works, he was basically building up to bgae (didnt read em, only excerpts. why read the drafts when you can read the final version?)
    >>
    >>110194305
I hate Nietzsche because I'm not a silly fedora and Nietzsche was mentally ill.
    >>
    >>110194305
Nietzche is a product of his time too, shit's antiquated now. I downloaded some lectures on his shit where they broke everything down in plain english cuz he writes like an asshole and you need to be native german to get what he's saying fully, so much is lost in translation. Essentially a fedora tipper coping with nihhilism and trying to replace Gods morality. Eventually driving himself mad, cuz he was sickly all his life and wanted to larp as a superhuman. Rebelling against his pastor father.
    >>
    >>110194482
    >i dont like netzche because it attracts edgelords
    thats immature as fuck
nietzsche could have been an obnoxious troon furry pedo and it would have made no difference to what he wrote, or how what he wrote would effect the reader
because the latter is the useful part of reading nietzche
you dont take his writing as gospel, you confront yourself with it, use it to refine your own philosophy

fedoraniggers need not apply. they read beyond good and evil bc it sounds edgy and dark then go around repeating excerpts form the book without understanding any of it
    >>
    >>110194552
    >I downloaded some lectures on his shit where they broke everything down in plain english cuz he writes like an asshole
thats part of the transformative process
his long ass phrases and the fact that theres related, completing concepts 100 pages apart trains your intellect in cutting to the essence, and in your attention span so to speak

    >i saw a lecture about him
    aka
    >i listened to what some dweeb retard who's >>>learned<<< philosophy form a handbook has to say about him

youre not getting any of nietzche this way.

    case in point
    >muh superhuman
a superhuman is a man controlling his animal self, and not the other way around

    >muh gods morality
do you want to talk about how aztecs sacrificed hunreds of people in order to prevent the apocalypse?
it was the epitome of morality for them bc they thought theyre guaranteeing the sun will rise tomorrow.
"god's morality" is not something that you can say in the context of philosophy and be taken seriously
    >>
Nietzsche would love c and claim all its quirks and annoyances are a knife cutting away at your animal side.
    >>
    >>110195245
    in a way youre right
c does teach you to have self control because you dont have a whole framework to wipe your ass for you adn account for your adhd and immature ego

Because people trying to teach programming are autistic and don't know the meaning and purpose of teaching. Most programming books are full of that, and also the classic "Don't worry about what this means or what this does. Just copy it out verbatim for now. We'll get into that later. [it is never mentioned again in the entire book]"

What terry was meaning here is very simple to me, this is my opinion, it seems to me like terry davis clearly was making commentary about marketing, and marketing requires you to disconnect from whatever your personal fucking tastes are, you can throw your personal tastes into the goddamned woodchipper, your personal tastes do not matter in marketing. What matters in marketing is how you can manipulate the consumer into buying whatever the fuck we are selling, ethicality be damned. Ethics don't matter, personal belief don't matter, religion don't matter in ruthless marketing. In ruthless marketing, we use whatever fucking techniques are the least likely to get us arrested to achieve our end game, which is you, the consumer, being driven to consume our fucking products until the day you die, and if you try and get in the way, we will fucking annihilate you.

It's not manipulation at this point. Every consumer knows this.
They just go for the "cheap" options. Then they like it. Then the provider ups the price until profitable. Then the provider makes it shit to get more profit.
It's really the same pattern every single time

Been working on a little side project called 4loadable. It's a Chrome extension for 4chan that lets you scan a thread, preview all the images, GIFs and videos, select what you want and download everything in bulk. Got tired of saving things one by one, so decided to build something for it. Just got it published on the Chrome Web Store. Thought I'd share what I've been working on. Would love to hear what you guys think!

What's the most efficient way to remember data structures and algorithms and OOP if you most likely ADHD (can't stop twitching when trying to study and pulling my shirt or tapping my foot)? I need a proper guide that tells me what's the correct way to program since I don't know if I'm programming according to industry standards. I usually just have my whole code on one page and don't use objects and constructors which is heavily frowned upon. The problem is idk when to use objects and constructors and setters and getters.

A proper guide doesn't exist because programming is an open ended form of expression like language, its more akin to writing a book than it is to something like building a house. My genuine advice is to do what worked for me and that is to spend time reading code that other people wrote and build a style that takes the parts that you like, and never follow rigid advice like "always use constructors" or something silly like that.

I cannot think or comprehend of anything more cucked than being a manual coder. Honestly, think about it rationally. You are poring over docs, hand-typing thousands of lines of code, relentlessly testing for months solely so your code can be harvested by Sam Altman's god machine. All the hard work you put into your beautiful little pet project — implementing your own hash table, chiseling the test suite, typing out every enum case and mapping. All of it has one simple result: your program is better for Dario to eventually scrape from your github before IPOing for $2 trillion.

Manually coded the perfect open source project? Great. Who benefits? If you’re lucky, a Chinese model that had nothing to do with you learning to code will absorb and regurgitate it every night for $0.20. It gets to use your tidy code in every inference call. It gets the benefits of its high cohesion and DRY design.

As a man who manually codes, you are LITERALLY dedicating at least 40 hours per week simply to create a program for a vibecoder to enjoy. It is the ULTIMATE AND FINAL cuck. Think about it logically

Everything useful has to use the web in 2026 so that's not a bad thing. People pretend otherwise, but shut off your internet connection for a day and see if you still even turn the computer on lol. Most people literally wouldn't even power it on.

Computers are for two things: video games, or internet and that's about it. If you're not making a video game (need C++) you're making a web application (which means the speed bottleneck is waiting on internet transfers anyway), and if you're not making either you're either an employee somewhere or almost certainly wasting your time.

It's weird about the AI thing. Google sent me a survey where they asked a lot of questions about using Go for AI/ML. Very weird because it's obviously not a typical pick for AI.
    >>
    >>110207677
It is psychopathic to read the docs of all the programs you want to do some tiny call to. AI gave me the command to grab a video's codec with ffprobe instantaneously. Very helpful.

AI is also good for a somewhat manual coder if you start making a function, write a lot of logic yourself (even if some of it is wrong), then just tell it to expand it. AI works great when it has some idea of what you're trying to do. And good at catching logic mistakes. And very good at vibecoding your web frontend because literally nobody wants to do that bullshit and nobody cares about the disgraceful HTML language where one page is a gigantic endless function of spaghetti sprayed onto the page.

An object declared in block scope with a storage-class specifier constexpr and without static has
automatic storage duration, the identifier has no linkage, and each instance of the object has a unique address
obtainable with & (if it is not declared with the register specifier), if any. Such an object in file scope has static
storage duration, the corresponding identifier has internal linkage, and each translation unit that sees the same
textual definition implements a separate object with a distinct address.

I just think I have a decent understanding of digital logic.
But I need a fucking adapter PCB to attach my floppy drive to my fpga dev board.
Holy shit, even tho it's not that high frequency and should be really simple, I have to boost the 2.5V rails from the fpga to 5V and then somehow add some level shifters. But not all of them can do any direction on any pin. Most of them have one direction for the whole chip.
And then I need to research which fuck might need a pull-up. This gives me hard headaches.
But I should calm down, because I tried the drive with some github sketch on a pi pico and that works. I can read it at least. And since the pico only runs at 3.3v logic (i believe i had a power supply for the 5V rail on the drive), it should be fairly simple.
Why the fuck did these fucking nerd not make the adapter rails 3.3V man. Fuck them nerds.
