    >one of the best reanimation spells ever printed
    >combocentric, you need specific setups to use it, but in those setups it wins the game
    >free at worst, 2BB for two reanimations at best

    Cauldron of Essence
    >upgraded blood artist for 1BG
    >upside for the same cost to reanimate a guy

So, in short, depends on what you're doing. If you're trying to win, dread return is better.

Based on the average cost of cards of your deck, you run a certain number of lands. A deck building tool will provide this number.

    >>98902118
Also thank you, but less politely.
    >>
    >>98902115
Avg cmc = average converted mana cost. Basically what your mana curve is, which means the average number of 1-10 mana cost cards you have in your deck. A well built deck will have an avg cmc of 2xx-3.xx meaning it has lots of 1-3 cost mana cards which means you can play cards every turn instead of the infamous "land pass" play style of decks with a lot of higher mana cost cards where you give up the initiative waiting to cast spells.

Use a deck builder like archidekt which automatically calculates the cost for you and start building with the curve in mind. Your games will go much better. I love you.
    >>
    >>98902127
No problem anon, and he is roght. If you're new to magic commander is an esoteric clusterfuck, and building a 5c deck is an elaborate exercise in suffering composed of every single card in the history of magic boiled down to a few optimized paths. If you dont know the fundamentals you're jumping into quantum mechanics upside down in a non-newtonian fluid while a bunch of DMT elves play Magic Mamaliga and dance about you offering zero help but many opinions.

That being said, if you start with the fundamentals, I personally recommend a deck in a monocolour to learn the basics, but you do you. Just had to warn you.

    >>
    >>98902145
Yeah, fair enough. Slivers is like one of three "fun" tribal decks.
    >>
    >>98902145
Even still, if you want your entry to the game to be play land play creature, you would be better suited to playing mono green so it's easier.
Actually, slivers would be an atrocious entry. For one the 5c thing, but for two a new player is not going to properly keep track of everything when they've got 4 unique slivers in play let alone enough to win the game and such. They're not exactly complicated, timmies play them all the time, but you'll see so many keywords and abilities and the like that would be awfully overwhelming.
    >>
Think that's it for request stuff.
    >>
    >>98902151
Seems like a good cross section and a rudimentary understanding of the different types of effects (activated vs state based vs triggered). And every slivers deck is either play rocks to fix the manabase, or tutor gemhide asap.

Fair enough, the real fun of The (yes THE, there is only one) slivers deck is building the list and then actually collecting the pieces.
Everyone wants to play it and everyone wants to play against it, right up until you do either of those things and then it is just "Oh".
You think you can put your own spin on it, but it really doesn't matter what slivers you pick, you throw a bunch of them together with one or all of the legends, doesn't matter which is the Commander, and you add in tutors, ramp and removal from the 5 colors, the best or the cheapest, not really important.
It teaches you one thing: That you have to keep track of a lot of shit, if you stick with it you learn how to do that.

What slivers need is some legends that are not 5 color, single color might be over correction, two color legendary slivers could actually allow people to truly build their own lists, 3 colors might still be too much.

    >paying 50 cents a card, plus shipping, tax, and apparently shipping tax for ANY proxies

This isn't even a matter of taste at this point, it's logistically foolish.
    >>
    >>98902353
The "official" cards for this deck come to somewhere between $5400 and $24000, depending on specific prints chosen.
No matter which prints you choose the deck would then contain a mix of at least 3 different card frames and have a huge clash of art styles and goblin phenotypes.

What I have just pruchased is a single coherent aesthetic for both art and card frames, it is an internally consistent bespoke product, and it is costing me approximately 5% of the "real" value, even when you factor in the further cost of dragon shield clear classics and kmc perfect fits for the deck and the tokens.

"slop" was when the generative models couldn't count fingers and toes, or when the prompter doesn't care to refine until the details are right.
There is no difference between these and painstakingly painted professionally commissioned work, I am grateful to gobanon for doing what he's done, for taking his time to finish the list off with requests and to do so only for the joy of doing it and only requesting to see the end result when it arrives.

When the fat guy playing his "erm probably a 2 but it has some strong cards" goes infinite on turn 4 is a bad first time experience.

    >>98902603
I disagree in remedy even if I agree in diagnosis. New players interested in commander should play precons; standard isn't going to build their card knowledge or get them to experience a number of the card interactions they should come to expect and other broader constructed formats are too 'solved' to let them see these cards either. Precons give them a simple-enough slice to eat on their own while they start learning what everyone else is cooking.

    >>98902619
WOTC never believed that; they didn't believe anything until they realized what a nightmare their old cards were going to be to maintain with the new ones; hence the oracle text and errata to begin with.

    Eladamri today reads:

    Eladamri, Lord of Leaves {G}{G}

    Legendary Creature — Elf Warrior

Other Elf creatures have forestwalk. (They can’t be blocked as long as defending player controls a Forest.)

Other Elves have shroud. (They can’t be the targets of spells or abilities.)

“We have been patient. We have planned our attack. We are ready … now.”
    —Eladamri, Lord of Leaves
    >>
    >>98902632
If they want to care about the errata they'll put their money where their mouth is and print the correction.
    >>
    >>98902646

run it green-forward and have several duals with forest - other land type. it doesnt have to be 400 dollar ones like savannah or 7 dollar ones like temple garden but can be like 2 dollar Canopy Vista. theres several out there. make sure there is like 2-3 of each forest pair. or just proxy all the green pairs.

no brainer stuff obviously commander tower and exotic orchard, reflecting pool is a good idea as well. I always run a minimum of 2 basic lands of each color in the deck. in my 5 color i think its 4 forests 3 plains and then 2 each of the others. absolutely nothing wrong with running more basics though but you will still probably want a primary color to run until your WUBRG engine is online.

I run 37 lands in almost every deck except 38 in one or two, one of those might be the 5c deck. and 36 in a high power deck with mox and mana vault and all that shit.

stuff like bloom tender and prismatic geoscope are nice. cascading cataracts + mana reflection is a nice thing to do as well.

Don't do 25 basic lands. You should do 1 of each at the most. Use the 5 color lands like Mana Confluence, City of Brass, Command Tower and as many untapped duals as you can afford, and double that for fetches. Ideally you want all 10 of the fetch lands and shocklands as a start if you're going to be competitive.

I don't know the deck but squirrel tribal used to be pretty straightforward and this matches what it was, just make lots of squirrels. More people play commander. WotC prints viable precons for commander. Bracket 2 is based on a average precon power level. WotC rarely prints Standard precons, and if they do they're usually starter decks for learning the game like with Final Fantasy, Avatar, and LotR. They printed some Standard decks recently for Lorwyn release (and I think for Strixhaven?) but a) you'll lose if you play them at your LGS and b) your LGS will not have Standard players on average anyway.
Also, you're acting as though newfags wouldn't walk in to a Standard duel with opponents who have $1000 meta decks. Should anon drop $200 for a "cheap" Monogreen Landfall so he can play Standard with the big boys? Or should he buy the Tramplesaurus commander precon for $30 to learn monogreen?

I love precons. I don't need anything more than a precon to have fun with my friends, and sometimes even win. The new Jace precon from Reality Fracture is pretty strong, I smoked my friends earlier today with it! As much as we all love to hate on this game, sometimes this game isn't so bad.

Limited resources was a sheldon signpost ban that wotc intends to keep
Land destruction that lets the pod keep 6 lands is the de facto standard now because going down to 5 invites arguments of unbanning limited resources to the table which wotc doesnt want to do

Limited resources t1 is basically the whole pod being subjected to keldon firebombers every turn cycle while it being a late game play is an undercosted 'keep 5 lands' land destruction that doesnt go away so in that sense i can understand why wotc wants to keep this particular signpost

Too few players understand how to maximize the value of Gush in deck design and construction, let alone use Gush well in game play. This is a by-product of a shallow and superficial understanding of Gush. Plainly, Gush is a source of card advantage. It draws two cards, a 2-for-1 spell. For many players, this is the extent of their understanding of the benefits Gush provides. Gush, however, is much more than a draw spell. This chapter will cast light upon the underappreciated and subtle benefits of Gush. It will describe four distinct forms of advantage made available by Gush, and will illustrate, in general terms, how to achieve them. In doing so, this chapter explains how Gush influences deck construction, mana base design and development, and spell selection. The following chapter builds on these ideas with clear rules for play and usage.

Mtg from its inception in 1993 was quite literally built for the Fornite treatment, walkers jumping from one 'plane' to another is simply reducible to players jumping from one IP to another
Now you might still insist that mtg should have its own lore, and that would be prudent and logical, but mtg while having the best mechanics in the space has had the shittiest lore for decades that never resonated and you have only seattle faggots to blame
Proof? That mtg manga is literally named after a MECHANIC and no mention of shitty UW, that's how bad mtg IP is
    >>
    >>98904519
    >Both are kind of... esoteric
There's nothing esoteric about limiting when you can combo off, in fact it's only logical; since the optimal way to win in edh is comboing off the way to make things casual is to limit that
I'm old enough to remember modern once upon a time being called a 'turn 4 format' by wotc, meaning infinites and altwincons were to be balanced to pop off at turn 4+ while infect was free to kill you turn 2 via combat damage
    >>
    >>98904519
    >average consistency
What's too consistent for a combo to be 'banished' from casual? 35% to combo off early? 25%? 10%?
Sol ring only has an 8% chance to appear in your opening 8 and people already cry about that
And there's nothing more esoteric than busting out the calculators and arguing that 10% is fine but 11% is cedh material

    >>98904507
    >>98904507
The part that gets me more in the context of Star Trek is that yes, these random space engineers are 3/3 creatures that could fight a space bear.
But Miles O'Brien can also destroy the U.S.S. Voyager, or a D-7 Battle Cruiser.
Even within the set itself, the creatures feel too large compared to the spaceships.

I can only assume they were worried about what would happen if the set was full of huge fliers, but it just strikes me as off.
    >>
    >>98904553
This is just 'why can birds of paradise wield sword of fire and ice?' and once players accepted that leap of logic there was no turning back
    >>
    >>98904541
Super esoteric in edh because of the size of the cardpool. With the splintertwin example, people hated that shit getting banned at the time and from what I remember it was very poorly recieved, but the cardpool didnt have anything as compact and modular. Twin variants were popping up everywhere as a shell sort of like delver and dimir tempo variants are now in legacy.

I can make a deck in edh that can combo out t1 at an impossibly low frequency. You cant X before Y is difficult to enforce if you have the conditions that exist to set it up. If you remove everything for those conditions to exist, then it's more reasonable to have those rules. But complex bans like in Pokemon are always ass in my view.
    >>
    >>98904551

It's all fun and games until it's FNM commander and you lost to a t1 wombo combo, haha nice non game, gg no re
You have to look at the big picture anon, your 'impossibly low frequency' can mean the world to someone and the only practical way to enforce limits on combos is to look at turns not 'likelihood' (good luck quantifying that)

    >>
    >>98904579
Huh? Mean the world to someone?

And likelihood is pretty easy to quantify. Number of combo lines, average cmc, sources of acceleration, tutors, and power of card draw. Factor it out and plot it in an algorithn on moxfield. Or use those brute force goldfishing analysis programs. But I'm not really arguing for that, I'm saying it's a qualative problem in player level, not a quantitative problem in cards or rates.

Bruh, no one calculates average cmc by hand. You just stick a number in a deckbuilding tool if you care that much. Casuals understand WAR, PER, and QBR just fine. It's not a good idea, but it's a lot more concrete than a bunch of conditional ifelse statements, and not particularly hard to make a standardized backend equation for it.

But again, it's an issue in player ability, not cardpool. Plenty of people can stop a combo just fine.

Are you really pretending "casual" means "braindamaged" to justify your preferred way of being condescending in mtg? If you dont understand sports metaphors it's fine, all of "this" is quite funny but not at all required.
    >>
    >>98904767
you're the only one here defining 'casual' as 'autistic' btw haha

    Yes
Going infinite with cards, regardless of their rarity is shortcutting a lot of the fun of the format

NTA but regardless of rarity is exactly the right mindset.
rarity has no game impact, it's entirely an artificial scarcity/gambling contrivance, a market concern not a game concern.
    >>
The toxicity of infinites is just a byproduct of the insistence that commander be a Bo1 format where people switch decks every single game. When you're in a consistent pod and everyone knows Billy is going to tutor for the second half of a Bond/Blood combo it's a lot easier (and more engaging) to interact with. Unfortunately a lot of commander players are children who will deliberately downplay what their deck will do, maybe they'll say they have "a combo" in it but "that it's slow" instead of just saying what the combo is (because then people would actually interact with it and god forbid you have to work to land your cheese). I've seen people ragequit over me playing telepathy-type effects just because they hate the notion they'll have to find a way to force it through without the benefit of the doubt.
    >>
    >>98904792
The funny thing is I played that card back in the day when all I had access to was bulk (at bulk prices got mine for a quarter) and people were already like
    >yeah anon we know
    >its freed from the real
    >ur not some genius
Imagine playing it 13 years later thinking you found something interesting and paying almost 10 bucks for the privilege
    >>

Best example of the kind of deck that gets significantly worse in games 2 and 3

I hope they keep the board like this forever it's pretty fun looking.

Yeah bro I feel you. Wizard's should totally stick to their in house IP where they clearly know what they're doing, like how two house cats or two squirrels or two birds or two fish can kill a bear.
    >>

I wish I could, but I gotta take the kid trick or treating. She'll be 13 this year, so it's the last year she'll be doing it, at least with me and her mom.

    Also this
The card is ugly as sin compared to the original
This thing is beautiful in foil
    >>
    >>98904333
    >Human who is at peak human conditioning for the what is current standard of life we have now could take on a bear
Plausible. Bears are very strong, and can move very fast, but have a hard time turning when they charge and humans have killed bears 1v1 by outlasting the bears stamina and dodging and striking a bear as its charging with its limited mobility. Risky, because, its a fucking bear, but possible.
    >Human, who has more advance training than what we understand in current timelines and with massively more powerful and advance technology as his standard as a normal starfleet personnel, not even accounting for what more combat oriented officers would have. A simple phaser would just immediately kill any bear without much thought or effort.
You should be more annoyed at the fact there is only 1 difference between them, because taking their tech and training into it, the trek guy should be like a 5/5 or a 6/6.
Base redshirts would be like 3/3s or 4/4s.
    >>
    >>98905218
    >in foil
No man, you were so close.
art pieces are trash when you're trying to look at the art through a rainbow hued reflection of the overhead lighting, it changes color and clarity, foil is fucking garbage even if it isnt curling the card, foil is child-bait.
I pulled a foil elesh norn in new phyrexia, sold it for 80, bought the non-foil and still have it.

    >>

    you're on the cusp
art pieces are hardly done justice on tiny pieces of cardboard, you should see them at original size, preferably in person to appreciate the techniques.
    >>
    >>98904507
    >especially when Star Trek is not really anything to do with wizards summoning monsters to fight. it makes zero sense to even try and combine the two things, but... they did!

You're right Star Trek stuff just looks silly in the coherent swords and sandals low fantasy setting of Magic the Gathering.

Anyways I equip Urtet my robotic commander from the robotic world where oil works like water with my Thran Power suit built on the planet with hyper advanced technology because it's adjacent to everything from the multiverse, which I then use to crew my monster truck from the futuristic India world where they regularly have races with cars and trucks which - thanks to the ability of the Inspirit, a fabled eternity spaceship from the Sothera system at the edge of eternity piloted by the AI robot Kilo - is indestructible which means Urtet runs over your commander Jetmir, the mafia crime boss from the 1920s art deco futurism world of New Capenna, with his monster truck!

    >>
    >>98905246
I think you're really close to realizing the truth.
But you can't possibly truly understand any work of art created by another person. The only real thing you can understand is a work you have personally created. The meaning, the technique used, the reasons for all decisions. You should only produce art and not consume any, that's the answer.

Golems are fantasy, but nice try at building a strawman (a kind of golem too)
you're mistaking phyrexias mechanical aesthetic for mechanical substance
a metal dragon is still a dragon, a metal goblin is still a goblin, etc...
    >>
    >>98905306
She's a bit expensive but can be very good
I think there's even a cedh mono green win-on-the-stack deck, i think it's more of a novelty than a real competitive list but I lost to it once
Can't for the life of me remember any of the kill cards except yeva

    >>
    >>98905319

    >>
    >>98905303
Correct. That's why 1990s magic with things like Phyrexians who looked like a mechanical zombie virus kick ass while post-1999 Magic when they started trying to make the game into an epic fantasy story and changed things like the Phyrexians into being generic Star Trek Borg villains that look like dolls with the whole aesthetic shifting to generic vidya comic book art is gayshit.

    Magic died in 2000.
