1. No.
2. I just hope it leads GW into making better quality lore for AoS. They couldn’t make it connect well with the realms and couldn’t/wouldn’t make the effort to flesh out the individual canon slices of the realms enough to make people care about the setting.
>>
Imagine you were wanting to start playing the armies featured in this year's Christmas Battleforce lineup, which ones would you buy, which would you pass.
Imagining this for each army individually of course, not that you're buying multiple boxes for different armies at once.

I literally can’t bring myself to pick up maggotkin, I don’t know why. It just feels like I would be betraying myself if I did, even if I think the models and rules are nice. I guess iron jaws is something, I would probably pick up multiple boxes.
Also fuckin sucks there’s no helsmiths box.

Man, I wish GW did more with the Slaaneshi serpents. I always loved the look of those things. It's criminal there's no modern kit for the lord, riders, or just the serpents themselves.

>>
>>98886262
Well would you look at that, they're actually capable of comparing models across game systems. If only they had unlocked this arcane technology when doing the friday showcase articles...
Sidenote but I have never seen anybody build the harbringer with the bell option lol
>>
>>98886226
>TQ
1) Nope. My main army is pretty much complete. I have a small Eldar Corsairs project on the side and I'm not looking to start any new army. Or at least Christmass Battleforces don't make me want to start one. I was toying with an idea of Chaos Knights but I don't want War Dogs, just the big boys, so the box is meh. As for the AoS side of Battleforces, none of the armies are interesting to me.
2) I'm kinda excited. There's some stuff happening soon and it has a potential to be cool. It might turn out shit, but the bit of uncertainty got me excited. I liked AoS lore, but no one ever give it a serious go. There's a number of fantasy worlds with numerous different worlds or planes of existence like Planescape, Magic or even fucking Mortal Kombat. People have been enjoying them for decades. You don't hear "Oh, but this Earthrealm and Outworld stuff is confusing!" or "I don't get how the Abyss is fighting the Nine Hells? Where's the map of that?"
>>
>>98886439
Did he really? Because that's not what the leakers themselves are saying lol
Has he literally ever been right when "leaking" something that hasn't already been talked about by other people?
>>
>>98886226
>TQ1:
No, the interesting part of the christmas battleforces is getting a good range of models on a discount. Half the boxes are just another 10% discount on top of my LGS discount for buying 3 of the same kit. Totally not worth anything to me.
>TQ2:
I don't see the point. Why make AOS into WHFB 2.0 when they already re-released WHFB? Maybe 4 years ago it would have made sense, but why now? Is the difference going to be just one is for grognards that want square bases and one is for hip and cool youngsters that want round bases?

>There's a number of fantasy worlds with numerous different worlds or planes of existence
The realms aren't even that esoteric, they're not different dimensions or anything. They're more like a magic solar system.
>>
>>98886569
But you see it’s not just on earth with elf Atlantis in the Atlantic so it’s bad
>>
>>98886439
I love how people are spreading false rumors. All that he said is that they don't really look Cathay, more like Mongols maybe, and they have spikes, so spikes are generally for evil guys and not Cathay, so probably some new Chaos. He made an educated guess and people are already "confirmed!!!" Now others will spread it as some kind of truth revealed.
>>
>>98886569
Can you starjam between them?
>>
>>98886569
I think the main problem with the realms is that it's boring rather than esoteric.
The realms are just the elemental planes from D&D, but with more of them and no one thinks the Elemantal Planes are all that interesting compared to there D&D cosmologys.
>>
>>98886587
Wasn't the rumoured China expy for TLW meant to be a nomadic snake-worshipping culture that controlled a settled population?
>>
>>98886606
I doubt it since Cathay sells better than most of OW combined so they’re all in on “China is the best” so them being portrayed as kinda evil wouldn’t do
>>
>>98886587

>>
>>98886594
Fuck, I was thinking about Spelljammer. Starjammers are in Marvel...

But it would actually be a pretty cool new army. Living between the Realms on big ships and raiding whatever they feels like. I don't think that either Chaos or Order need another faction but either Destruction or Death would be neat. Vampire Coast but Spelljammer? Greenskins but Illithids or Githyanki?
>>
>>98886736

the new chinese faction looks like a massive step up from cathay at least, not that thats hard to do.

>>
>>98887068
Not just only that, but in today's atmosphere nobody is willing to gamble millions or tens of millions dollars and years of development on a very likely, massive uphill battle project to bring forth the IP, COMBINED with the hint or outright knowledge that the utilized IP will become obsolete in a few years
>>
>>98887101
The two are very different ordeals, and gw very notably never cared about total war warhammer until 3
>>
>>98886226
1. No, I have full armies
2. What new rumours?
>>
>>98886396
I don't like mobas or most of the multiplayer games because I like mostly story driven games, or at least something that let me have a progression of a character. All those one match and replay from the beginning that mobas, shooters or fighting games have are not for me.
JRPG on the other hand would be pretty neat. RIOT actually at some point had this thing when they did different smaller games set in the world of LoL, one of those games was Ruined King: A League of Legends Story, a pretty neat JRPG. Something in that format would fit AoS really well.
>>
Are we at 80% confirmation that they are going to merge into one planet with one world map?

It sucks that there is no lore or mythos about the setting such as in fantasy or 40k.
>>
>>98886396
Realms of Ruin could have been good if they made it more of a fantasy DoW1 or a more tanky BFME instead of the weird pseudo-moba feel they went for.
Most others were uninspired small budget games.
>>
>>98886782
>Slaanesh in general has a lot of cool aspects
It's not just the models, but the rules have been shafted as well. I loathe that GW hates scatter dice and pretty much refuses to include them in main studio games. I just want to run a HoS force with rules for drunk units and getting other units drunk. I want to turn my games into absolute shitshows where everyone can only control what's going on half the time.

Comp faggotry was a mistake.
>>
>>98887229
According to leaks, which are usually working with imperfect information even when correct as the actual people leaking typically don't know anything about AoS before they pass it on to the TGA leakers.
>>
>>98887229
I wouldn't mind the compromise option of keeping the realms as they are, but nabbing a bunch of continents from them and smashing those together into a Battleworld as a bright mirror of the Eightpoints.
>>
GW always tended to commit to something then abandon it before finishing. The first time I've noticed it was during the 3rd edition of 40k. They were riding the hype of the Imperial Inquisition thanks to Dan Abnett's Eisenhorn and decided to release 3 codexes, each for one of the main branch of the Inquisition. We got Daemonhunters (which was basically Grey Knights + Ordo Malleus Inquisitors), Witch Hunters (Sisters of Battle + Ordo Hereticus Inquisitors) and... no, they abandoned it before we got Alien Hunters.
>>
>>98887298
Yeah, it was same with the whole BoC vs Yndrasta storyline and even the whole two CoS crusades with a hook where one will triumph and the other fall (both fell lol.)
>>
>>98887229
we were at 100% confirmation over a month ago
>>
>>98887358
No, we weren't.
>>
>>98887202
We got a blurry map and some pics of the blurb guys from the core book.
Lemme try and find the map in the last thread.
Okay yeah here it is. In typical leaker fashion it's one hell of a potatocam but it tells us a surprising amount
>>
>>98887363
What are you going to count as confirmation if not the appearance of a special character whose name and backstory related to this incoming catastrophe is revealed as the rumors said?
>>
>>98887382
Speaking of the picture, do we know what's the northern continent? Does if fit any of the previous maps?
>>
>>98887348
>one will triumph and the other fall (both fell lol.)
Wdym? Verdigris was founded and is doing alright for itself. Did you confuse it with the Phoenicium?
>>
>>98887384
It didn't confirm the actual catastrophic event. It just confirmed the character so just the part of the rumor/leak. Sure, it made it more believable but rumors are never 100% confirmed until they're out or there's a massive leak like the whole book being leaked.
>>
>>98886554
>Something about magic working differently though
Ah fuck they better not go the way of 40k.
>>
Surely they won't blow up the entire setting without doing major revamps to existing factions or adding new ones?
>>
>>98887348
Isn't verdigris doing fine?
>>
>>98886652
He didn't "leak" Nagash getting replaced. He suggested Nagash in a battleforce box might mean they're trying to empty the shelves before a new model is released. Everything he said was speculation, he explicitly said so.
>>
>>98887405
>It didn't confirm the actual catastrophic event.
The character is about the catastrophic event, and in the same string of rumors.
Why would that be correct but not the rest somehow?
>>
>>98887443
I find trying to read the tealeaves to be tiresome. GW seems to be responding to outrage against this game from a decade ago by reverse-engineering the many of the exact trappings of a different game that this game was created to get away from, and this tendency is apparently accelerating even after a whole third game was created with the specific intent of providing all the things people liked from the first game and that they couldn't from the second. It doesn't matter whether I can accurately guess at why any of this is happening, so I'm just gonna say that from the outside it looks like complete nonsense.
>>
>>98887389
Given the presence of what appears to be a chaos symbol I assume that's the northern chaos waves 2.0.
Afaik the major rumoured landmasses are:
Aqshy/chamon/ghur continent (pictured in the map)
>Gyran/shyish continent
>Hysh continent
>Ulgu continent
>Lustria 2.0 continent
>Northern chaos wastes
>Southern chaos wastes
(Azyr mia)
>>
>>98887443
i tell you what, they're like 1 or 2 big squattings away from losing their entire player base as it is.

consumer confidence has been dropping like a stone every time they delete someones collection, and the last 2 editions of AoS they have been deleting armies faster than at any other time in warhammer history apart from the end times. the one thing that keeps warhammer going as a game brand despite its price is its percieved longevity and security that its not some fly by night game that will disappear in a few years, but the more they keep legending or outright deleting peoples shit, the more they shake that foundation
>>
>>98886254
Nurgle is cool and diverse, the others are centerpiece traps or spam builds. Wouldn't want to start that way.
>>

because it's adding one degree of separation from the stink that was the launch of aos and the murder of the old world
because it's making the setting more familiar and easier to digest for complete outsiders in both content and atmosphere
because it's being coordinated with a concurrent secret level episode and a starter set that focuses on the most popular and evergreen faction (chaos warriors)
because at its core, the whole ordeal is about shedding the parts of the setting that writers weren't ever going to explore or address in the first place and rewire everything else around what they already did and the scope they are already capable of writing, resulting in a more coherent and dense setting
>>
>>98886226
1. No, I don't buy special characters.
2. Might care, might not. If GW keeps the RoR that lets me use non-humans in CoS? Sure I can give a shit. If not? Then it's time for me to move on.
>>
I never played AOS before but i really like how the models look. I really like the chaos knights and the undead skeletons. Can you run them both in the same army or do they have to be played in their own army separately?

>>
>>98887755
They're different armies, chaos and undead don't really mix

>>
>>98887382

>>
>>98887763
>Give it time
They gave it 10 years and that wasn't enough, killing the mortal realms like the old world was killed in the end times will be seen by many as a sort of karmic rebalancing and has good chances of working to separate the IP from its disastrous reputation.

>I doubt that's the best way this can be done
it's not the best, but it's one that can achieve that

>¿Que?
age of sigmar is getting an animated episode in the secret level anthology series, 40k got one previously and it was a massive success even amongst people who knew nothing about warhammer, gw is hoping one such episode for aos can be used as trampoline for the ip into mainstream acknowledgement and the timeframes for the making and release of this episode match the ones for the decision and launch of aos's new edition and revamped setting

>Like what?
demigod characters instead of actual god characters; city states and simple continental landmasses instead of untold numbers on near limitless realmscapes; grimdark instead of mythic high fantasy

>>
>>98887774
What a tool (whoever that is). Everyone knows Elves love BWHC.
>>
>>98887878
its appropriately praised. GW has needed a good small format all in one box game for a while. the points per model versions were too prone to jank and imbalance, but combat patrol had wonky issues with wargear loadouts. kill team is too granular and convoluted, and warcry is too small and bespoke (a warcry team doesnt easily form the start of an army like a spearhead).

spearhead does well with giving a good sample platter introduction to the army, and the small board size makes every fight a turn 1 brawl since the whole thing is a cage match. the random objectives and twists keep it pretty fresh and unpredictable too.

are there things that could be improved? sure. but as a rapid fire brawler game mode thats somewhere inbetween an actual battle and a skirmish game, its one of the best out there.
>>
>>98887984
continental drift would do way more than coastal erosion, problem is we can't account for that
>>
>>98888019
True, we don't have continental plate data yet as far as I know. If I had to guess, I'd say the middle sea shrinks, west continent splits down the middle, the two straits on the eastern continent become one and make a new island in the central sea.

>Several continents comprise the Last World. They are varied in their terrain as well as the density of their populations. Pieces of the Mortal Realms that preceded them are embedded in each of them, stitched together and their essence rewritten by godly magic that can never again be replicated. They are all that remains of what once was, and even this is only a sliver of the former whole. The continents are riven with earth, though the touch of Chaos has seeped into the bedrock. It can be seen or felt in wilder places, a bubbling malevolence that warps the twisted shape of trees and the malformation of rocks.

>At the heart of the Last World - according to its Sigmarite hierographs - are the Heldenlands, a rain-lashed domain of forests, marshes, mountains and farmlands. Due north, frost sits in until one reaches the ice-locked edge of sanity where dark forces reign. To the south, deserts and badlands spread, though at the southern pole, the grip of cold and damnation returns. Rivalling the Heldenlands are the Darkwood Provinces. This densely forested region is where ancient rituals and the worship of dark gods endure.
>>
>The Karujin often raid CoS, they're a powerful enemy that CoS fears (but they aren't Chaos). Meanwhile, the Karujin have loads of conflicts with their neighbouring island nation, Hanzor. The two face each other across the sea, and Hanzor has loads of sword saints (samurai) to hold off other factions. This faction actually has a lot more lore and pics, shame I haven't got them though.

Soulblight Gravelords (SBGL) has the better spearheads. One box is pure skellies, one is skeletons with elite vampires mixed in, both options come with good looking cavalry models and a block of skeleton warriors and in my opinion look like a proper army on the table.

The chaos spearheads (I play chaos) are much worse and I recommend against them. One is an all-vikings warband but has no heavy armored chaos warrior troops. The other spearhead has a nice mix of chaos warriors and knights but has a chariot (old model, bad rules, doesn't have the same proportions due to decades of scale creep) and chaos lord on foot (likely less desirable than the mounted options for your general).

If you wanted to get into chaos, look into the old Start Collecting boxes, buy the battle force this Christmas (great box, I doubt the people hating actually play chaos), or buy individual units from eBay because their popularity means people are often buying chaos warriors and then selling at low prices if they don't like the army.

Yeah, but AoS didn't really have factions that are almost 1:1 copy of a real world historical faction in a fantasy sauce, like The Empire - Holy Roman Empire, Bretonnia - Medieval France (with a sprinkle of Arthurian legends), Kislev - various Slavic nations, Cathay - China, Lizardmen - Aztecs, etc. Sure, there are some inspiration here and there but it's usually a mash of different things rather than one.

Hi aosg, it me, it's time to talk about minis and paints.

Show me some of your minis. Today, I would like to see a small unit of your minis as they would appear on the tabletop.
>>
I am thinking about getting into AoS with the Slaves to Darkness box. Is it worth getting two for a full army or is that too much of the same units?
How would I expand the army if I got one box?
>>
Here are some paints that I think are very good individual paints. Terrestrial Titan is a recommendation another anon gave me this past January.

>>98888259
Two of the box is a good choice. Every slaves to darkness list starts with your choice of hammer; either you take Varanguard or Chaos Chosen. They're basically equally good, depending on what you want the the rest of your list doing. You want a reinforced unit of one of these, and some lists run 10 chosen/3 Varanguard. From there the next step is a 20 man unit of chaos warriors as your anvil. Two of this box gets you there. From there, you decide on your general. Any mounted chaos lord (either one) or Daemon prince is a good choice for a generic list - if you really like Archaon or Belakor, you probably don't have room for all of the minis you'd get by doubling up on the box, and youd know in advance if you wanted those minis because they're too much of a commitment to get "just in case".

Either way, because any mortal hero can ascend, you probably want a daemon prince either way in case you ascend one of your chaos lords during a game.

From there you decide "do I like marauders?". If yes? Get a darkoath spearhead. If no? Fill out the remaining points with monsters, chaos knights (incredibly well rounded cavalry scroll), wizards, or a regiment of renown that adds shooting (Chaos dwarves or a cogfort)

yeah, that works, there's basically nothing redundant in the box, its 100% good shit that you'll want to reinforce. if you can afford 2 boxes that would be an amazing start to the army. the plate armor guys are all the best units in the army too

>>
Are there any kits that are good for undead bits? Based on looking I'm assuming the Corpse Cart and Coven Throne are probably the two best for bits even after you build them.
>>
>>98888298
>>98888323
Cool thanks, good to know. I'm mainly interested in Abraxia as an additional general model. I'm not a fan of the Darkoath part of the army, as I prefer the armor and especially the cavalry. A Sorcerer is the other model I'm thinking of getting.
>>
>>98888019
Mars doesn't really have tectonic activity lake that, does it?
>>
>>98888412
It's a dead world to the core. No activity for many millions of years.
>>
>>98888409
Abraxia synergizes with Varanguard. I would not use Varanguard AND chosen if you were reinforcing varanguard - when chosen is your hammer you focus on protecting them and your list includes choices like more screens, fast objective grabbers, or sorcerers for utility and a ward save (Oracular Visions). Your model count is higher so stuff like the Wilderfiend, and by extension darkoath in general, become better.

On the other hand varanguard are more expensive but they're cavalry and get to where you need them without as much babysitting. They have a synergy with the mounted chaos lord you're getting anyway.

That said, I would not run reinforced varanguard with a minimum size unit (MSU) of chosen because they will be too expensive and ineffective in a list not built around them. Which means if you like Abraxia and Varanguard, the ten chosen you'll pick up won't see much use, which is almost a hundred dollars of wasted expense for you. It may be better for you to buy the box once, and then pick up a daemon prince and Abraxia's Varanspear (an older discount box, check eBay, which contains Abraxia and a MSU of Varanguard to round you out). You'll have to do the budgeting math yourself, because you'll still be 10 chaos warriors short of your core army list if you don't get a second Christmas box, but once you have the following you're in a good spot:

>abraxia (230)
>Chaos lord on daemon steed (130)
>reinforced chaos warrs (360, or 400 if you take the Aqshy variant warscroll)
>Reinforced varanguard (580)
>MSU chaos knights (240)

This is about 1500 points with both a hammer and an anvil and the heroes to buff them. The remaining 500 points should be spent on either fast moving objective grabbers, shooting units from other armies, or magic to improve mobility and interact with your opponent's casters.
>>
>>98888525
Thinking about it more, shooting is less important for you because you are not a castle style army the way an infantry heavy chosen variant would be.

Magic or objective grabbers are probably more important. Finally, in actual games you need to be able to score your battle tactics. One of the best ones for chaos is Blazing Onslaught, part of which requires you to damage a target in different three phases in one turn - this means some mix of spells in the hero phase, shooting in the shooting phase, impact hits in the charge phase (Chaos lord on Karkadrak), combat in the combat phase, and end phase mortal wounds (Gods wrath Warband subfaction). I would say that there is a significant benefit to taking a unit that can dish out wounds in a phase you currently don't.
>>
>>98888346
Yes! Someone else gets it! Yeah the white armor is just apothecary white over a dry brush, then I stipple on a white on top. The blue is asurmen blue and it’s very crisp. I definitely recommend if you like the color of it.

Honestly the last great blue paint I had was an old hex pot of blue ink from 2005 when I first tried getting into mini painting that had dried almost completely , becoming a dark blue syrup that would give the most incredible but transparent blue tone. I've just got Vallejo flat blue after that ran out and it's... Fine? It's blue, I guess? But I genuinely don't use the color blue because I don't have a paint that excites me.
>>
>>98888259
It's a fine box, other anons have already explained why you could very easily get two.
It's worth nothing that According To The Rumours™ slaves to darkness will be in the 5th edition launch box in about 9 or so months.
>>
>>98888604
There is nothing that they could put in the new launch box that would make this box a bad purchase at least 1x. I don't know what to make of the chaos warriors refresh rumor (seems unlikely and unnecessary, but stormcast got one and technically the Warriors are a 7 year old release) but you'll always want a hammer and these models are all pure kino, half of them are from the 2023 release and no way are they getting refreshed

>>98888610
I don't think they'll redo the actual chaos warriors. There would be no need for tow to go back to the 5th edition aesthetic if aos was already going in a different direction.
I know the leakers said something about spikier chaos warriors, but that could mean bunch of different things not necessarily involving the actual chaos warrior kit.
Though I suppose it's always possible they pull an armaggedon and have an alternate slightly different set of chaos warriors in the box, like how they have intercessors with different stuff in the new 40k box.
>>
>>98888704
I genuinely do not like the TOW sculpts for chaos warriors because they look like chosen and also look like they take a very long time to paint in nmm. You know it's a lot of work when even I'm not looking forward to painting armored infantry.

The new leaks aren't really exciting to me.

Even if I liked the new army I see zero reason to buy into anything gw related because they just drop support on a whim.

I don't believe the games rules will actually get better in 5e.

Lore is so disposable and shallow now, combined with armies that don't actually have an identity in line with their lore descriptions.

The only silver lining I see here between 11e reception and aos lvo attendance numbers is that maybe more people will flock to non gw games or we see some 2e or 3e like ruleset pop up.
>>
>>98889400
They’re ‘functionally’ infinite, not literally, as in, it could take a person centuries to reach the end of them. Gave the writers a lot of freedom to crank things up to 11 and go wild and introduce monsters the size of continents and cataclysmic events that would have been world ending on a single planet and what not. There were still events big enough to affect them though.

To be fair, if I was planning on getting into any of these armies starting off fresh I'd probably buy any of the boxes. However as far as ranking them goes:

Best:
>Maggotkin
>Slaves
Both are great for the same reason. Incredibly well rounded boxes that both stand on their own and work well with their spearhead counterparts.
Good:
>Cities of Sigmar
>Ironjawz
Cities despite being the box I'm most likely to buy for myself, just needed one last little hero/unit to feel complete. One of the new mages or priests ideally. That being said, it pairs well with both the solo spearheads and again is the box I'm most likely to pick up for myself. Ironjawz is a pretty perfect second box after the spearhead, it's just an awkward first box. Still would get it as a newer player, though just like Cities might wait to actually build/paint it until doing one of their spearheads first.
Niche:
>Nighthaunt
>Stormcast
Nighthaunt box really relies on you wanting Nagash. While for a ton of people I'm sure that's a yes a decent amount of nighthaunt players, especially more game focused ones I could see just not caring/wanting him. Stormcast box is pretty decent for a freshly starting out player, but that's still a lot of annihilators. It feels like a box for people who bought Skaventide for the Skaven half, never sold the Stormcast half, and figured they'd make a good second army.

40Kfag here. Wondering how does AOS list building logic work. I get regiments etc. But I mean list building logic is it more of a "subfaction skew" like say in Daughters of Khaine, if you're gonna run snake people and harpies, run all snakes and harpues, in Ironjawz, if you're running piggies, make sure majority of army is piggies etc.
Or is balanced mixed list building viable and that was misinfo?
Like say for the examples I used can I run a bunch of Orks and a bunch of pigs or for dark ekves a bunch of witch elves and a bunch of snakes? Or would that not be viable?

Nope... Half of entire AoS roster is stormcasts, the other half is mostly CoS humans. Few duardin. Very little representation for other order factions or races. For example no seraphon, no sylvaneth, no lumineth, no idoneth (besides the neave gang member)... Surprisingly many Daughters in the data but i doubt they wil make it to the release beside Witchblade, as their gameplay data seems variably undercooked. But as i stated above, its just demo data.

Generally yes, but you can mix in some. Like an Ironjawz infantry list gets some of those gore gruntas for fast movers. If you look at competitive lists there are some units mixed in, it's not pure "subfaction synergy" all the time.

Big note this is the state of affairs for now. In the next edition things might change significantly.

the priest makes sense because they worship hashut and pray for his evil blessings

GW should just hire a Japanese animation studio to do an anime; it worked out well for Cyberpunk
>>
>>98890499
As sweet as that can be, I'd still suggest pic related instead.

Cyberpunk didn't really click due to the animation itself as much as the emotional core and character interactions, while warhammer has a narrower scope as far as those are concerned and would ideally have to rely way more on the action.

knights are just amazing at everything, they're expensive but durable, fast, and extremely dangerous when they charge (but are just tanky pincushions if they don't get their charge off).

Darkoath Fell riders are 90 points IIRC but they're 1. fast and 2. Cheap 3. Can be given javelins to trigger Blazing Onslaught to shoot a little bit

Raptoryx or Furies - bonus points for style. Not terribly meta and animals (Beasts keyword) all have a limitation where they basically can only cap objectives but can never contest them against humanoids. They certainly work and sometimes show up at tournaments.

Sorcerer or a warband (Gunnar's Darkbrands, for example) with a wizard.

>>98890594
Chorfs were grossly underutilized in whfb. They ran the (not) Eurasian steppes basically unopposed, and they were singlehandedly arming the warriors of chaos with their weapons, armours, and war engines - but you'd never know it for how infrequently they were ever acknowledged.

>>98890590
I think I'd prefer to see the chorfs and dwarfs in a more of an on again, off again type alliance. They hate each other normally, but when things get really bad, they'll tolerate and work with each other.
Considering the Helsmith battletome, there's precedent for it. Kinda why I don't don't like chorfs being (totally) chaos aligned. Evil? Sure. But want to dominant and rule, not break everyone's toys like chaos.

Chorfs were the more pragmatic dwarfs in whfb, which has translated over to AoS, to some degree. Unlike slayers, infernal guard could actually earn forgiveness and rejoin chorf society - something I hope GW keeps with the Helsmiths.
Besides, like I already said, it's already already confirmed that the two groups did work together in the past. That means they've already split once (whfb), got back together (age of myth), and split again (current AoS). It's not outside the realm of possibility.

What's funnier is that gw is remaking the setting to fit with the disinfo and opinions of the ignoramus down to a T
>sigmar made the mortal realms!
he didn't, but now he'll be the one who made the last world
>the celestant prime is karl franz!
he wasn't, but now he's seemingly getting reconnected into being him all along
>reforging removes the stakes!
it never did, if anything stormcasts saw direr situations than marines from day one, but now they're getting their reforging taken away so they can be dragged off the field of battle bloodied and broken but not dead a dozen times over the following years like marine characters do, since they can't die by virtue of having models anyway
>the mortal realms make no sense, they should scrap them and have one world!
chances are they have a weaker grasp of the scale a galactic empire operates at, but apparently a solar system is too much, and yet a smaller planet is what we're getting and nothing will change in practice other than a removal of the rest of the sandbox

It won't work either. Types like valrak say they would totally get into aos if they fixed the realms or xyz other perceived issue they have, but they never actually will. They'll just keep collecting marines. I don't mind their presence as they probably fund a good chunk of gw, but trying to appeal to them in other systems is a pointless endeavor

>>

>the enter realms

>>
>>98890991
Why would they pray elemental beasts into being if they could just grab them in the garage downstairs? Your kneejerk reaction makes no sense.
Do you think a mawkrusha or a manticore are normal animals just because they don't have elemental powers like a pokémon?
Fyreslayers have a problem, and that's the fact the scope of their faction is too narrow and made them flanderised and samey out of the gate; making new units that are just more of the same design and more of the same gimmick isn't going to do them any good.

You can have your super powered elemental lizards at the top levels of the faction, but I draw the line at giving them lizard cavalry or any other sort of similarly lava-themed critter as a normal low tier mount.
No amount of dishonest boogeyman accusation will change this, or my opinion.
>>
>>98891011
Nta but they live in shit like picrel, having them pull up to battle on normal horses or goats or boars or whatnot is gonna be weird.
Smaller magmadroth cavalry is fine. Besides, you can add elements to the smaller ones to make them stand out from the big uns, like how mawgruntas and goregruntas don't look the same. Maybe the cav sized ones have horns or whatever.
They've already committed to the draconic motif. If you want normal animals that works for khazalites, but not FS.

>>
>>98891060
They can have multiple types of beasts, they just need to be fairly draconic or lizardlike. It's be off-putting as fuck if seraphon suddenly showed up on a mammoth or whatever.
I'm not advocating for goats with magma or anything, I'm advocating for no goats at all.
Lizards, dragons, droths, salamanders are all fair game imo.
Maybe tortoises if you wanna get a little bit crazy, though that's probably too defensive-coded of an animal for what is at the end of the day a slayer army.
>>

tbf to anon they don't have to be "normal" animals. just not elementals.
>>
>>98891198
It's only their whole theme because they're a faction born exclusively out of 3 kits, 2 of which are the same infantry design with different weapons.
If skaven came out today with only skryre stuff you would be pissing and moaning at the idea of them also having frankenstein monsters, plague priests, ninjas, and horned demons, because you are missing the forest for the trees by thinking that there isn't anything more that can be done or should be done.

>>98891011

okay now you're just making up straw men.

i never said they couldnt do something new. im saying theres zero reason it needs to be some boring mundane non magical creature when the whole factions theme is big magic fantastical shit.

not only do you have bad opinions that want to strip a faction of their theme, but you're also arguing very dishonestly
>>
>>98887733
Some of that, it's had to get a grasp why anything is important. Like if a city falls in Shyish what's the actual affect for the controlling faction etc.?

The other thing is people will say "Oh but the setting allows for infinite potential to tell stories!" But the game seems to only focus on Aqshy and Ghur pretty much, compound that with the fact that we don't really see how all these factions that are spread out across the realms, like CoS, differ from living in one realm compared to another.

Lastly (and this might be explained in like a Soulbound supplement or novel idk) how exactly do the mortal factions survive in realms like Chamon, what do they eat and drink, are they just scrapping gold off the ground and trading with the Ghyran and Ghur realms?

I'm not even an AOS hater, I like playing the game just fine and most of the faction designs are cool.

But the setting isn't very interesting at the end of the day so I treat it much like I did with MtG when I played that, enjoy the game and ignore the lore.

Would The Last World setting change how I feel? Hard to say but probably not? The only reason I could see GW trying to pull this is that maybe they see most AOS media isn't being engaged with besides the game and they're trying to draw more interest like 40k and WFB have?

We know that Dwarves in Champn by sealing themselves off environmentally in suits and pretty much anyone that enters has to follow the same procedure, not sure about food and water but there’s an abundance of materials to trade with yeah

You're the only one being a hypocrite.
I never said it has to be a normal animal, I said that making it yet another droth or another magma pokemon isn't going to help the faction, that's because it doesn't reinforces the theme as much as keeping it as painfully limited as it's been for 10 years, if it doesn't make magmadroths and manifestations LESS special because just about everything else is also special their same way for no reason. No other faction is getting chained down the same way, no other depiction of the realms forces elemental pokemons as the only shits the faction can have, no other religious cult restricts itself to only one story of its god.
The "whole faction" is ONE infantry design and ONE monster design, you can argue all you want that's all fyreslayers should ever be but again, you're missing the forest for the trees and the abysmal reception of the faction is proof that it's not enough.

>if a city falls in shyish
I would say it's about the same effect of a random glup shitto planet falling in 40k, or even a glup shitto village in whfb. In theory it's no different than gw's other systems, but I can see why aos' presentation brings these issues to the forefront more than any other warhammer setting
>only focus on aqshy and ghur
This is a very common complaint on here and totally justified. Gw are lazy hacks I suppose.
>what do they farm
There's normal food and resources in each realm, but they're just more or less scarce depending on the realm. Settlements in chamon have little food and a lot of metal, so they trade with e.g. ghyran which has lots of food but little metal. Prime example is the ghyran side of hammerhal producing an absolute fuckton of food which allows the industrial aqsha side to sprawl to such enormous sizes.

Like five years ago people would make fun of the AoS 1e maps. They would have stupid names and looked like MS paint but I suppose in retrospect they also felt more fantastical and imaginative, although they were at times fucking goofy to look at.

There was an anon known as mapspammer anon who would routinely post all these maps every day sort of like Soonposter (who is also not in the ice berg and should be). One day middle of the spam was interrupted by a picture of a hand holding a bottle of selenium supplements, which the board immediately pounced on because it meant that this dude wasnt a bot but actually so dedicated that they were just posting these pics daily from their phone reels.
>>

>>
>>98892515
Don’t forget to add that he would shitpost the maps with the intent of making fun of the setting despite it having moved past those silly maps by saying something like “My Fyreslayers are from the Mortuary Factory” or something. Generally saying an army and a name on the map. So he added one of those captions to the selenium picture and that’s what got him found out. Hilarious day.
>>
>>98892543
never, their gimmick is gottagofast
best you can hope is for grotbag to become an addendum to their faction like spiderfangs are to moonclan, and grotbags getting an infantry unit that represents the deployable crew of one of their ships, like arkanauts for kharadrons.

can i get the lore on Alan merrets idoneth punishment?
>>
>>98892921
There's a longstanding rumour (in the original sense, not in the "leak" sense it is used today) that idoneth were the pet project of someone at gw, with the two most likely candidates being alan merrett and brian nelson. Reportedly they always wanted a sea elf faction in whfb but could never make it work, so when aos happened they jumped on the opportunity. Merrett left gw in 2016, and since then idoneth have just kind of existed since nobody knows what to do with em, or so the theory goes.
The punishment part is mostly just a joke about how lots of people at gw disliked merrett cause he was kind of a cunt sometimes, so idoneth getting fuckall is an intential spurning of his passion project.
>>
>>98892990
Is jumping the shaerk related to this? Was the shark intentionally goofy or something?
>>
>>98892990

oh i have heard this before. i suppose it kinda makes sense? but like surely new people that have come to gw would want to expand on idoneth. theyve got a lot of potential
>>
For it being the year of the horse there sure weren’t that many cavalry kits this year for aos.
>>
>>98893040
There used to be a guy obsessively hating on aos. He would spam this general with "did aos jump the shaerk?" posts. He also made separate threads, at some point you had like 5 or 6 of these up in the catalogue at the same time.
Apparently a mod was behind it or something, these threads always stayed up for a long time while anons complaining about them being spam got tempbans instead, just lots of suspicious shit. You can still find a bunch of complaints on /qa/ if you search the archives for shaerk.
>>98893056
About it being a pet project for sure yeah, wouldn't be the first time either. Maxime pastourel is basically singlehandedly responsible for death guard getting an insane amount of love in 8th edition 40k, for an example on the other side. Dunno if there's any evidence it's merrett's doing tho.
The punishment stuff is just a joke though obviously.

>>98890525
>>98890649
I wouldn’t necessarily say that. You can absolutely adapt the story and characters in an emotionally compelling way in Warhammer, all 3 of the settings, while also having plenty of action. You just need to find people who know what they’re doing.
>>98890670
They could have so many people more people invested in the hobby if they marketed it right. That’s all these adaptations functionally are anyway as anyone knows, but that doesn’t mean they can’t be good in their own right.

the StD battleforce is really nice but I KNOW it's gonna be at least 250 USD and that's just ridiculous for plastic figures.
Too bad cause I like their cav and it would be a nice box to get them all at once in a discount. I might just get myself a single kit of cavalry this christmas.

How is the chaos lord on Karkadrak vs the one on daemonic steed? both in-game and as a kit. The karkadrak looks cool but the daemonic steed has a nice silhouette with the raised lance and flowing cloak.

GW paints mix fine with each other. Mixing their paints with other brands doesn't have a convenient answer, you either experiment to find out if it works or look around to find someone who already ran the experiment before you and shared the results. On /tg/ that usually means asking in /wip/, but it's a good idea to at least keep in the back of your head that there are other online spaces where your questions might have been answered. Just taking a minute to check for youtube tutorials will sometimes be enough.
