Which location/city in the WHFB world would you choose to live in and why if you were forced to pick 1?

Probably Averheim or any other major Averland city.

Good economy, easy access to halfling food, and it barely ever gets attacked.
>>
What origins do dragon ultimately have? Evolved from dinosaurs? Arrived from outer space? Completely magical?
>>
>>98881153
Iirc they're a native species of the planet, before the Old Ones arrived.

Ulthuan standards of living while tucked away in the arse end of the inner kingdoms far away from any of the regular invasions. But then I'd probably get exploded on accident by a wizard or eaten by magical beasties from the anulii.

Postan again, I have 170 points to spend, what do I do?

40kfag who wants to get into Old World via Battle March. I understand it's not like Combat Patrol and Spearhead, the armies aren't preset.
But are any of the Battle March boxes or starter set sides any good as Battle March armies? Not asking for metafagging, just that they don't suck balls if I want to play them out of the box.
I'm fine with any army.
>>
>>98881222

I really like marauder horsemen for flanking and chasing archers/artillery.

A pair of dragon ogres if your league is more competitive.

Hounds if you end up with 30 points to fill with chaff.
>>
>>98881222
Add ome Chaos Knight abd two units of 5 warhounds. Add remaining points as chaos warriors.
>>
>>98881274
Cathay, WoC, Beastmen and maybe Orcs and Goblins boxes might be worth looking at
>>
>>98881274
They’re all decent enough, the high elf one is a little weird, and the wood elf one is a little light (though you’re paying less for that one so I think its worth).

I find the Empire, Beastmen, and O&G ones to be the best just for the variety they offer though.

He's 90% complete. In two or three days when the varnish cures, I'll add some snow to the base. Anyway, it was a hard rescue, but at least he's not lying incomplete in someone's drawer under a few millimeters of thick paint. Ten more models, and I can call my yearly plan done (FPA 2k Chaos army for 6th ed) - however since I've just got a kid of my own, the last two weeks were brutal when it comes to hobbing and it scares me.

>>
>>98881222
Replace the 4 chaos knights with some chosen knights. Full plate armour and lances, non-negotiable. Double the attacks for ~40% more points and you get a 2+ save. If you're going to bring chaos warriors, you need to bring at least 15. If you bring less than that, they're just going to get shot off the board immediately and even if they do get to fight their rank bonus is going to vanish after two casualties. 15 is still arguably too few, but you'll at least have a semi-functional unit. The marauders are fine, but you want more of them. At least 20, or preferably a second unit of 15. Use them as an anvil or have them sit on objectives. While an exalted champion with a lance on a daemonic mount can be functional as-is, consider giving him a magic item. After that, pick what you want to finish out the rest of your list on your own. I recommend avoiding chariots (absurdly overcosted, dies to a single cannonball, max unit size of 1), forsaken (you need 15+ of them in a unit to do anything these days and they're too expensive for small games), warhounds (chaff that can't score on objectives is bad at best and actively detrimental at worst, 6 points per bullet-catcher is not cheap), chosen warriors (they're not worth it and even if they were the rules of the game would not allow them to be good), and chaos spawn (fun, but bad).
>>

Idk about the ghosts. I think their poses and bigger size would make them akward to field on bases meant for grave guard/infantry.
Honestly I'd just get Nagash if you really wanna use his mini for a lord on zombie dragon. Ghosts are gonna be akward. At best you might use 2 for banshees.

>>98881851
I just realized I've never seen anyone paint a human character black in any game of Warhammer I've ever played.
>>
>>98881794
I mean that's a great deal if you wanna start an AoS army for nighthaunt, but I'm iffy on the idea that a singular character is 70% of the point cost of the box and 40% of the total army cost.
I dislike the minimal infantry herohammer plus monsters and cav meta in TOW. This is even worse than that. Because in TOW at least it's spread out.

Hey I've never used AOS minis for TOW. So I'm wondering do most of them fit fine on the standard square bases for their respective units? I mean the stuff like AOS night goblins and Clanrats and normal human infantry and cavalry? Or is everything gonna be too big and people wanting to use them are gonna have to use base adapter trays?
>>
>>98886996
Night goblins, definitely. That's the same model served during 8th so they're designed to rank up. Newer stuff is definitely harder to rank on squares though, more because their poses are very ranking-unfriendly. The bigger base sizes help but a lot of AoS models are genuinely a pain to put into formation. Limbs get caught on each other, that kind of thing.
I normally opt for a proxy kit from Avatars or WGA for rank and file infantry rather than go through the ritual of trying to rank up AoS infantry boxes. Some of the models are good for individual characters or monsters, but I've never had fun ranking up AoS models.
>>
>>98886996
You might have to play musical chairs with the new clanrats but I've managed to get mine on 20 mm bases, so they should fit fine on 25 mm.

>The new plastic warriors don't match the design cues of Warhammer Fantasy Battles
Yes, they do, they have their roots in the 4-5 ed plastic warriors and in the Smith artworks.
>and look like a continuation of AoS' model range.
No, they don't, and even then "aos" warriors basically split into two aesthetics, warriors+knights, which follow quite faithfully the 6th ed warriors, and varanguard+chosen, who are instead chaos marines without backpacks. and if frydaal follows one of two groups, it's definitely not the latter.

Apologies if I am ignorant on the subject. I don't play the game but I am thinking that I might start a tomb kings army. Why do TK players say to never buy the light armour for skeleton warriors? If I read the rules correctly, light armour gives a 6+, right? the shield with your skeleton adds one to that save to give it a 5+? Why wouldn't that light armour be worth taking for more survivability?

I mean that's like 75% of AoS army design. I thought they were making more grounded (heh) dwarf faction but turns it was "You like vikings and runes? This whole ARMY is viking and runes!"
>>
>>98888061
I get where youre coming from but I honestly feel that way more strongly about something like high elves, Cathay, dark elves (at least with their plastic renditions) and mayyyybe Bret’s. They’re too disgustingly homogenized to my taste.
>>
>>98888138
Not that anon, but I don’t think that’s the same problem. An army having a homogenized look isn’t the same as going “What if the Dwarf Slayers was a whole army by itself?” You can easily imagine an expansion of Cathay that goes in a whole new direction that doesn’t break the “Warhammer China” concept. AoS pigeonholed a ton of factions by making them “What if X unit was a whole army”
>>
Would a 20 elf strong regiment of Elven archers be worth taking? BS4 and volley fire at 30" seems useful.
>>
>>98888061
Norse dwarfs should have a unit tho, Royal Clans already doubles as their AoI since they're all about having more runic stuff and no gunpowder. They should make something like runic longboat that swims through land and acts as a firing platform/infantry delivery.

Honestly? I can’t. Seems like neither could the people who made them in total war either. Either way I just think I hate this aspect warriorirication that likely started with elves.
>>
Earlier this month, I won the Cathay terra Cotta giant warrior kit as a prize in a convention.
Obviously I'm very grateful, but I don't play Cathay. I've got Orcs and Goblins, and Vampire Counts. Small number of dwarfs. What should I do with this model? It's massive, and has a pretty distinctive look that makes conversion seem a bit hard, like I could make it an undead giant but it would still be an undead giant with clearly Cathayan armor, right? I can't think of a really good idea for this box.

I’ve never played Total War so I don’t know what you’re talking about, but the first thing that comes to mind is to lean into mystical aspect and martial arts. Shaolin Monks and Journey to the West could go hand in hand. If not lean further into the industrialization that large artillery and flying lanterns suggest and give them more machines.
>>
>>98888626
Shit, is it a rough build? I'd think that such a new centerpiece model would have to be pretty well engineered.
>>98888652
Yeah actually. The con was actually ran to raise money for a food bank. I could toss the kit back in the prize pool at the next event, but obviously it would have been rude to reject the box on the scene when they gave it to me. Since I haven't opened it yet, there's a chance that I do just give this away as a gift or donation.
>>
>>98888671
>so I don’t know what you’re talking about
You probably should, because an Indian furry convention is what got explored for Cathay.
>lean into mystical aspect and martial arts.
They can’t. Xianxia and wuxia stuff is off the table with the way the dragons are handled. And the tigers arguably already pivoted to that role anyways in a way that doesn’t conflict.
>If not lean further into the industrialization that large artillery and flying lanterns suggest and give them more machines.

The infantry has 5 variations each plus command group being unique, but not much of a problem if you mix them. Also some of the normal warriors aren't consistent not all have shields, 1 pose is GW. But again, can mix eith shield wielding savage orcs etc.Or cut and kitbash.
That's the only negative thing I have to say. Other than that, the quality is nice.

Nah, here its just because they saw that mantic was going to release a new edition and gw wanted to squash competition there and remembered they had a rank and file game ruleset. They are very much ambivalent towards fantasy for better or worse.
>Now theres an old world rpg in addition to fantasy, but what is the difference in setting?
Old world is supposed to be mechanically more easier to get into. setting wise dont even bother looking into it, its just a mess.
>And what is a good point to start learning the broader setting, books, lore dumps etc?
For the old world, there is no lore. They are constantly retconning shit, for fantasy, I guess the felix and jaeger books are good until you feel like you get tired of reading them. Also army books. Fantasy role play itself honestly fleshes out the setting the most, personally I thought less of the setting when I went through the third-fourth edition rpg books but thats just me.
>>
>>98893216
Old World is the same setting, just a couple hundred years in the past. Some things are different, most things are broadly the same. I guess the reason they did it like this was that they didn't want to completely walk back the End Times as it was the origin story of their new game, but they still wanted to have room to add more stuff to WFB. Honestly though I expect that they'll eventually just retcon the End Times when it comes down to it, nobody likes it or cares about it, I imagine not even the AoS people.
As for where to start, WFRP is a decent enough place. There are lots of novels of varying quality, most people recommend the Gotrek & Felix novels as an intro because they're approachable pulp adventures that kind of touch on most of the major players. But it just depends on what you're into.
>>
>>98887258
I'm surprised that nobody has mentioned how out of place Frydaal looks next to the TOW chaos range. She has all the marks (pun intended) of an AoS-styled chaos warrior. Leather boots, the Storm of Chaos/AoS shield design, the little armour plate with a buckle holding the furs in place, even the way her armour is designed fits the Storm of Chaos/AoS aesthetic. Was she a leftover model from AoS that was repurposed for TOW, or was the TOW chaos range designed after she was released?
>>
>>98893114
I do think modern consumer habits elevate complaints about cost. I don’t want to say a box of models going up doesn’t suck, but you don’t feel it so bad unless you’re buying every singly new release as it comes out. Considering the piles of shame people accumulate, perhaps that hypothetical consumer isn’t so unrealistic.
>>
>>98893341
Just admit you don't like her because she's a woman little bro it's ok the incels here wont judge you but your big bro will
>>
>>98893351
I don't like Frydaal because she's a woman and because she's a non-character. She only exists because GW needed to fill time until a Great War Against Chaos campaign book could be released. Regardless, that's not the point. She could be a man and her (his?) design would still be in the vein of the Storm of Chaos and AoS chaos warrior aesthetic.
>>
>>98893341
>was she a leftover resin AoS sculpt
>>
>>98893361
>She could be a man and her (his?) design would still be in the vein of the Storm of Chaos and AoS chaos warrior aesthetic.
Nah little bro you wouldn't be saying anything if she was a man it's ok though big bro still loves you
>>
>>98893368
The sculpt could have been cast in plastic if GW wanted it to be. They do everything digitally now, anon, even their resin models.
>>
>>98893378
Modeling for resin molds is different from modeling for injection basic molds fagboy
>>
>>98893386
Injection plastic*
>>
>>98893386
Right, but the design of the model that would become Frydaal could have been an AoS design. It would ultimately be repurposed and used to make a resin model, but a digitally sculpted model is a digitally sculpted model. The finishing steps to take it from a file on a computer to a mold ready for production are different depending on the material said model will be made of, sure, but that doesn't change the digital model itself or the original design cues. Frydaal has all the signs of being designed to fit in with the Storm of Chaos/AoS chaos warriors range. What about this is objectionable to you?
>>
>>98893187
When they refreshed the skeletons for AOS, I found them to be rather sturdy. I would surprised if these aren’t the same. The torsos and legs seem to largely be one piece, which seems to produce a sturdier bit overall.
>>
>>98893398
And you could be the size queen that personally tests the biggest meanest bad dragon dildos that could be produced doesn’t mean anything now, your ass is gaped either way.
>>
>>98893341
her armour is fine, but the bare head doesn't work.
If she were helmeted, she would fit in
>>
>>98893402
I do not understand why you're being like this. If you like Frydaal's model, that's fine. She is objectively more similar to the AoS chaos range than she is to the TOW range.
>>
>>98893398
>im a faggot retard im a faggot retard
Yeah we know now kill yourself so we dont have to deal with you
>>
Would you love me if I was a worm?
>>
>>98893404
I'm not saying anything about the quality of the sculpt or making a value judgment in any way. Compare her to the Storm of Chaos warriors, then compare her to the TOW warriors. She all the design elements of the SoC warriors and none of the ones the TOW warriors have. I genuinely do not understand how you people aren't getting this.
>>
>>98893428
We get it you dont like girls enough already
>>
>>98893103
The scale there is all wrong. The old models are on 20mm bases, the new ones on 25s, which means they're about s head taller than the old models and not as dangerously thin. The shields seem massive in comparison, spears longer too.
>>
>>98893428
It is a troll trying to rile up and gaslight posters. I agree with your theory that Frydaal is either an AoS miniature repurposed or made intentionally to share the same design cues and stylizing.
>>
>>98893420
luv ogres, me. need some ideas for chaos lads
>>
>>98893507
You mean the aesthetic WoC had in TOW until 2 months ago?
>>
>>98893536
That aesthetic dates back to the Storm of Chaos days, anon. 2004, remember? Tail end of 6th. I would not call that a TOW aesthetic. An inherited WFB aesthetic, yes, but not a TOW aesthetic. Said SoC aesthetic would be iterated on in AoS. The TOW aesthetic, if it wasn't abundantly obvious, is the aesthetic of the recent range of chaos models released specifically for TOW, with which Frydaal shares zero (or at least very few) similarities.
I understand that you're being retarded and disingenuous on purpose, but you aren't even trying.
>>
>>98893581
Is this some kind of retarded elaborate troll?
>>
I'm finishing painting my dwarfs backlog and considering starting a second army. I'm looking for something that offers a different playstyle, with more speed and a lot of magic. Any recommendations? I'd prefer if it had a big box to start out and didn't rely on chariots since I never liked those things visually. And it can't be orcs and tomb kings since there's a lot of them here, nor Cathay since they're lame.
>>
>>98887721
What are you talking about actually
>>
>>98893187

>>
>>98890924
>They are 32mm scale

Can you request a smaller scale or is it just one default larger one?
Do they come with the old base size or the new one?

Ivebeen eyeing their dwarfs fot a while and always assumed they were on 20mm. I wouldn't get them if they're larger.
>>
>>98893466
Nah that image is a good comparison. TOW skeletons are packaged with 25 mm bases and videos I’ve been watching to get a better look at the sprues and they have a close height parity with the old ones having thicker limbs.
>>
>>98893103
Do the Skeleton Warriors get free shields rules-wise? I feel like snipping the handle out of that hand would be an easy conversion.
>>
>>98893676

How do I counter Doomflayers? They're fast moving, counter charging, impact hits with extra attacks all at AP-2, and are protected from range by their parent unit. And to add insult to injury, they have two wounds so something that ignores them being hidden, such as magical beams, can only do one wound at a time.
>>
>>98893676
It gets better about half way in but it suffers from AoSification big time. Kind of have to hold your nose ngl

The knight of bretonnia omnibus is better in my opinion, last two books are definitely weaker than the first two.

Writing may actually be better in lords of the lance desu, but if you care about like... bretonnian lore and consistency then yknow

Mine by default came on 25mm base and 32mm scale. There was no option like on etsy. But you could ask them if they could print at a smaller scale. Order notes exist and desc says 28-32mm wargames. So ask via email could they print smaller scales and smaller bases first, maybe they are willing to do so.

Wondering if anyone can do me a solid - if you have the Warhammer Base Size & Unit Strength Reference Sheet 6th Edition document from the GW website waaaay back in Ye Olden Tymes, can you upload it somewhere accessible please? The only functional download link I can find is on BoardGameGeek who demand you make another fucking login account before you can get files and then never send you the fucking activation email.
>>
>>98893216
Firstly, ignore all the wikis, they're run and staffed by GW-worshipping paypig faggots who gleefully expunge "outdated" material every time GW issue a retcon or new edition, almost all the material on them is from Nuhammer slop.

Fluff from 2nd edition of Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay and from the rulebooks and Army Books(my bowl of porridge is 6th edition, you might prefer 4th/5th which were a bit lighter in tone but less fleshed out, avoid 7th+ as that's where the rot sets in) will give you an overview of the best IMO version of the setting. 1/2

For fun stories to read there's a decent number, with a single very very very strong caveat: Do. Not. Read. Any. End. Times. Books. They are without exception deliberate and spiteful character assassinations, just stop before you get to them and pretend those series never got finished. I'd day for getting a view of the setting Gotrek & Felix is the topline recommend simply because the protagonists get around so much, so long as you keep in mind their adventures are exceptional and most people in the world's stakes are a lot lower day-to-day. The Florin & Lorenzo books give you a look at Lustria and the Ogre Kingdoms through the eyes of a couple of Bretonnian mercenary vagabonds. The Angelika Fleischer novels are a window into the Empire's southern frontier of the Blackfire Pass and the Border Princes. Malus Darkblade covers the Dark Elves. There's only a few Dwarf books, and miraculously they're decent despite many being written by Gav "Proud Stepdad" Thorpe. Unfortunately I couldn't tell you much about the High Elf stuff as I've never read it. There are a series of "historical" novels set in various pivotal periods of the setting's past usually surrounding a specific event or character, but some of them seem to have been written by people who never fucking read anything about the setting and are full of bullshit contradictions and contrivances, the Sigmar and Nagash sagas are the worst for that, but the Black Plague trilogy is a decent glance at the Empire prior to it being All Puffy Sleeves & Gunpowder, All The Time. The rest of BL's output ranges from interestingly fun to outright abysmal, but it's not vital to understanding the IP and is just there for those who can't get enough Warhammer so you can ignore it for now.

The most obvious answer is probably Bretonnia though. From the no cav faction to the all cav faction so no gunline only cavalry charges.
