>What is /awg/?
A thread to talk about minis and games which fall between the cracks, or peoples' homebrew wargames.
The >>>/tg/hwg thread doesn't entertain fantasy (for good reason) and the other threads are locked to more specific games.
This thread isn't tied to a game, a publisher, or a genre. Let's just talk about fun wargames. Any scale, any company, any miniatures.

>Examples of games that qualify.
A Song of Ice and Fire, Argatoria, Batman Miniature Game, Carnevale, Conquest: The Last Argument of Kings,
Deadzone, Dragon Rampant, Dropfleet & Dropzone Commander, Freebooter's Fate, Frostgrave, Full Spectrum Dominance,
Gaslands, HeroClix, Kings of War, Lords & Legends,
Maelstrom's Edge, Malifaux, Marvel Crisis Protocol, Masters of the Universe: Battleground, Moonstone,
Oathmark, OnePageRules, Open Combat, RelicBlade, Rumbleslam,
SAGA, Sahipkıran, Sludge, Space Weirdos, StarCraft, Stargrave, Sword Weirdos,
Urban War, Void Admiral, Warcaster, Warmachine, Xenos Rampant, Xenotactics...
...and anything else that doesn't necessarily have a dedicated thread.

>Examples of companies providing rules and/or miniatures for alternative wargames.
Archon Studio, Atomic Mass Games, Black Site Studios, CMON, Goblin King Games, Lucid Eye, Mantic,
North Star Military Figures, OnePageRules, Osprey, Para Bellum, Seb Games, Spellcrow, TTCombat,
Victrix, Wargames Atlantic, Warlord Games...
...and many other publishers.

SAGA is fantasyslop wearing the clothes of a real historical wargame. Perhaps if you're a nogames who's only played Age of Empires or somesuch garbage it could pass as historical, but to any serious Wargamer the idea is, frankly, risible.

both pictures are overweight middle aged to senior dudes, the common factor here is subtle but important, they are at an LGS or convention.
Both are for guys who don't have groups of actual friends that will invite them to play in their homes, or whom they would choose to invite to play in their own homes.

Never forget that there is a portion of this hobby that is not visible because it centers around real friends who play in private spaces and who do not enshrine corporations and spending money endlessly at the centre of it all.

Isn't WGA and BT gringo companies?
>>
>>98836264
Not that I'm aware of. I've toyed with the concept occasionally and gotten as far as testing, and it seems to be one of those things that's fun to design but not to play.
>>
>>98836279
Yes, but those are actually very difficult to find games for in most areas because clubs don't exist in the US, just local game stores (dominated almost exclusively by GW products when it comes to wargaming) and friend groups in houses. So there's no public spaces for people who aren't in these friend groups to make friends with wargamers who are playing alternative or historical wargames, and there's no way of knowing who is playing alternative wargames in a given area without basically knowing a guy, which is pure luck.
>>

>>
>>98836297
Yeah, my most recent concept used a standard deck of 52 cards. You'd lay a card face down by each unit each turn. The suit determimed which order they'd been given (clubs for charging into melee, for example) and the number was the order you resolved them in. Problem was this wasn't fun to play.
>>
>>98836264
Didn't x-wing work like that?
>>
>>98836264
I'd say Legion Imperialis, By Fire And Sword and most spacebattle games.
>>
>>98836307
What is this convoluted implementation? No wonder it was no fun. If I get it right it means you have 1 card out of 4 stuck you with a melee decision.

>>
>>98836547
Same. Warmaster plastic minis in 35€ battleforce boxes is my wet dream. I'd use these smol bands for anything from Fantasy Rules to Fantasy Battles and be set for life. If Argatoria keeps poppin' more factions I'd might be there one day since thier prices and sculpts aren't toooooo far off.

Renegade Legion. Grav tank hex battles with good plastics and new maps would be great.
Dark Age being a thing we can get again would also be great. There's already lots of skirmish games so I'll go with Renegade Legion but its not easy.
Confrontation might be a third but I can and did already get most of the models for that from recasters. The rules were only alright.
Lurpra would be funny too.

Lel. Don't get me started I'm the anon forever mad they switched from "battleforce" boxes to single unit type boxes. Between that and the slow ass releases they dropped the ball even harder than Mantic did with Epic Warpath.

I should own a smol orc, dwarf and skeltal forces by now. Instead I bought fuck all and never will until they course correct. Good job greedy cunts! See how far this kind of BS will get you in 2026 fucked up economy.

FASA era scifi wargame with evil empire and rebels blowing the shit out of each other's grav tanks, later space fighters and large ships.
Weapon damage had specific patterns depending on type that would chip away at or blast through armour. A bit fiddly but very neat tactile experience that isn't part of much gaming and would be cool to see again.
>>
>>98836792
>FASA
I'm yet to touch a Fasa game in my 36 years on this earth. They always came across as just a bit too crunchy for my liking. I mean, I appreciate them for the in-depth game systems that they are, but nowadays I tend towards simpler games.
>>
>>98836815
I enjoy crunchy games, my personal issue with them is that I have to wrangle someone else to play it, meanwhile the few times I found someone that liked this kind of game. Their lack of social skills became an issue way too fast.
>>
>>98836831
I think those are reasonable points. I can see the appeal of super crunchy titles, I like that some games have a rule for just about every occurrence but myself, being heavily medicated, kinda puts me outside the capabilities of them. My bro wants me to play Battletech Aerotech with him, and it's a source of my sadness for me that I can't indulge him. But we play a lot of Alpha Strike and have fun with it.
I do hope you can find more socially adept friends to game with anon.
>>
>>98836815
Opinion coming up so ymmv.
I've got an extra decade in and its been interesting watching that change over time both with my preferences and fashion.
When the granularity opens up meaningful player choices and engagement I'm more interested, when its just things to fiddle with that don't make much difference in how the game results go I'm less interested.
The rules lite thing for the last 10 or so years has been good but hit rock bottom and started mining kickstarter for gold a while ago so I'm over it and at this point look for a certain minimum level of detail indicating whoever made it gave a shit and knew what they were doing at all instead of jumping on a fad that seemed easy.
>>98836831
This is a notable hurdle and have instead found introducing more complex games over time with the lighter games as a base to see where people are at to be more effective but having a group to rotate games between we all suggest and generally have a decent feel for what will play well and giving each other a bit of grace helps. Takes a while to build up though.
>>
>>98836872
>Opinion coming up so ymmv.
I agree with the general sentiment, I just go towards simpler games because of the aforementioned medication issue. Crunch is fine with me if, like you said, it is contributing something to the experience and that's the general message I tried and failed to convey in my last post when I mentioned games having a rule for everything.
I do agree that the whole simplified rules has been taken to extremes and, for want of a better word, flanderized. I like Fallout Wasteland Warfare levels of intricate. Most occurrences are covered and the rules allow for quick judgement rulings if the're required. Anything more than that and I simply can't keep up.
>>
>>98836276
>>98836293
>but everybody plays
You don't need to play against "everybody," you only need a single friend
>those are actually very difficult to find games for
Skill issue. Have you tried having some friends?
>>
>>98836894
Makes sense to me and medium with some variation on that based on game group is the best bet for me too. Totally understand the capacity based on circumstance. When I tore my shoulder I was in enough pain and medicated enough anything more complex than 5core or euroboard games wasn't happening.
>>
>>98836905
Here's to healing and getting some games in lol
>>
>>98836747
I dislike WGA myself. I am absolutly flabergasted by the lack of quality of their releases. Lowest effort slop. I just checked their indian mutineers to see if I could get some use out of them and I recognize some heads and pieces from the afghan sprue.
>>
>>98836896
>Skill issue. Have you tried having some friends?
This sounds like boomers giving advice.
Just grab your friends and make them play whatever, gets harder as you grow older and well the younger generation are poorer and more retarded than previews ones.
Hey even in a club you find issues to get people to try a new game and we proudly show in our social media how we usually playtest games made by the members.
Granted homemade shit is easier in the sense that the guy asking for a playtest will usually bring everything and act as GM or the players proxy the shit out of it. But is not something to expect for every new game. Expecting someone to have multiple armies to maybe catch another guy with this tism and play something else beside the clubs popular game.
>>
>>98836952
Clubs aren't friends, they are a pleasant Middle ground between friends and LGS.

The truth of the matter is you will never find an opponent for every game on the planet, and that's just life. There are people who can't even find someone to play Warhammer 40k with.
I used to practice HEMA and moved states and now I had to find another hobby because there is no one here. It's the same with games.
Your first complaint was "there are no clubs in the US" and now you changed the goalpost to "clubs won't play the exact game I want every time."
Here is a pro tip, build and paint two armies for every game you want to play and the chance someone will play it with you goes up much higher
>>

I'm tempted to say Monsterpocalypse since monoposes are okay so it could easily be simple two or three part kit with like 20 minions per sprue. But you can fully proont that whole range now, so what I really want is a This Is Not A Test range set up like the Xgrave plastics.

>>What was the hussite war
>Its like proto-protestant war. Huss was the name of the priest that started it.
Close, but slightly inaccurate. Hussite Wars were not stated by Huss, but because of him. Huss was a preacher and demagogue, but not a warmonger. He tried to debate his points at the Council of Constance peacefully and gets some concessions or promise of reforms, but his rhetoric was too radial so they put him to a torch instead. Which pissed off Huss followers bad enough to pick up arms.
Also, at the time ruler of Bohemia (Sigismund of Luxembourg) promised Huss will be guaranteed safety at the Council, but later voided that promise, so people were more angry about this perceived betrayal rather than death of Huss (who was basically content to martyr himself for the cause if necessary).

The religion of the Hussites was actually turbo based, and essentially a better version of what would later be Lutheranism. Like Luther, the Hussites considered themselves Catholics and didn't want to destroy Catholicism or break from it, only to reform is back to being closer to what Christ intended.
The Hussites were in the right, and their grievances with the Roman Catholic Church were extremely valid.
1.) they wanted all Christians to receive a full communion, the bread and wine, just as Christ gave his followers at the last supper, instead of only clergy getting to partake in full communion. Ironically, the Catholic Church branded them heretics over this, but nowadays the Catholic Church takes the Hussite position and gives full communion to all.
2.) the Hussites wanted to stop the corruption of clergy and church officials, and stop clergy from using their positions to obtain extreme personal wealth. Extremely valid critique, but obviously why the Roman Catholic Church wanted to kill them over this.
3.) they wanted the words of Christ and scripture to be the ultimate authority on Christian practice, not the Vatican. Again, completely understandable critique and similar to Luther, but you can see how this would anger the Vatican and their position of power and control.

Obviously the power of God was with the Hussites because they had some of the most impressive underdog victories in all of history. Under the blind Jan Zizka at the Battle of Vitkov Hill, 80 Hussite rebels defeated 8,000 Bohemian knights

Long story short, he acts like his life ambition is to be a middle school bully despite the fact that he's in his thirties. He parrots Battletech video memes without knowing anything about the lore. is and got run out of our Battletech group for trying to treat it like a competitive game. He tried to start a separate group, got nowhere with that, and then latched onto Conquest. Last I heard about him, the guy who used to be his best buddy and left the BT group with him had gotten pissed off at him for some reason, so he's clearly the kind of guy who just can't help starting drama.

All this comes together to mean that even if Conquest were a good game, I'd never play it unless I moved cities because I'd have to associate with people who associate with that guy. But I regularly pull 25 people for Battletech campaign nights, so it's not a concern anyway.

How many people do you know that does this?

>we're in a strange situation where mr quar releases stuff like armour and cavarlry that don't fit the squad on squad scale
Almost entirely false. Both armor and cav work in squad scale. Also the latest non-plastic model releases weren't only those two. Speaking of plastic, the two latest releases are two new nations' infantry.
>but wargames atlantic doesn't let him publish another book until the current one sells.
This is pure fiction. The guy who is writing the mass battle rules is working on multiple projects while also updating the skirmish game. These take time, there is nothing about some WGA bullshit.
At least say something that makes more sense, like they'd want to get the full ranges done for the current nations first.

Wanted to get into wargames, looking at Bolt Action. It's carried by most FLGS in my area with some active players. My only bar for this is better rules than 40K, and has active local players.

Was Bolt Action always popular, or did it just have a resurgence?

I ask because the last time I tried to get into wargaming, the entire Warmachine scene in my area evaporated practically overnight.
>>
>>98842245
Bolt Action has always been popular, mostly with older people, but I wouldn't be surprised if K47's recent popularity has pushed up even further.

Warmachine dying, I am guessing on Mk4 launch? Because that's what happened to our local area until me and a friend rebuilt a casual scene for ours (unlike the previously competitive group who were already looking to exit.)
>>
>>98842245
>>98842271
this isn't /hwg/ fuck off.
>>
>>98842271
Yeah something happened around the Mk4 release that imploded the entire WarmaHordes scene in the span of a few months. I was like halfway through painting a used collection I'd thought I got a good deal on by the time I realized why I'd gotten a good deal on it. It crashed harder and faster than X-Wing did in my area.

The entirety of Privateer Press I think imploded? Which is a shame, because I liked their paint pots. I really thought they were going to stick around longer, but it looks like Infinity outlived them.

>K47
I read that I might as well by a starter set for both since some content is compatible. I suspect K47 will be in and out of popularity, but Historical like Bolt Action will always have a place. I think K47 is based on 3rd Edition Bolt Action... and it just re-released last year... eh yeah sure might as well.

I think I read you want to pack more AT weapons and options in K47 if you're using Bolt Action stuff to better counter the tougher non-Tank units available, but that it's otherwise possible to play a straight Bolt Action army in K47?

>>98842288

>>98842245
There's a whole mess of Bolt Action players at the wargaming club that runs out of the church hall near me.

>>
>>98842318
I mean Privateer Press are around, the current Mk4 is still being made by them. They simply sold the license and work with/under SFG now, and looking like MonPoc (the only thing PP kept) is getting something new next month.

K47 is based on the current Bolt Action ruleset, with only minor unit skill changes between them. Everything released for Bolt Action is fully accessible in K47, though you're encouraged to only use Late-War stuff (but nothing stops you from using early and mid-war units.)
You do absolutely want armor penetration on anything and everything, and thankfully all basic troops get RPGs as an option by default. This is due to Warlord heavily pushing you into playing rift units (hell a basic list requires atleast two infantry rift units, unless running an army-unique platoon) and giving almost all of them means to avoid being damaged by small-arms. This has balance issues though as nothing stops you from spamming only 7+ armor units and making the game unfun for both yourself and your opponent. I would've preferred they nerfed that and restricted high armor to tanks, since rift units already have interesting skills and rift mechanics to make the game engaging to play.

>>98832282
>What are you building/painting? Pics?
Designing jigs for some Japanese fantasy terrain, I'm refreshing my old Kensei force for Clash/Rangers/Oathmark and I want a better-looking table. Also cutting a bunch of Fireforge models off the sprue and cursing their savage lack of variety in both heads and weapon arms. Seriously, three virtually-identical bow and gun poses, with two of each on the "ranged unit" sprues, cloned polearms, all the sashimono are cloned, only three heads on the mounted sprues (all dupes of ones on the foot sprues), and the heads on the foot sprues are all twin sets helms with and without mempo. I've got a lot of sculpting ahead of me. Maybe a ranty picture later. At least they're still better than the Warlord plastics.

>Warmachine is running Cyrx army frontier on Myminifactory
>https://www.myminifactory.com/frontier/cryx-dread-armada-5654?referral=4204f74c

What's the catch to this? I take it that these are just special units compared to what is on SteamForged's webstore so technically not a viable army on it's own?
I am not sure how Steamforge is handling Warmachine stuff on the myminifactory.
I remember seeing Warmachine stuff and I'm not sure if it is making a comeback after Privateer Press soiled the bed.

Also how are the new Formula P3 acrylic paints in droppers? Especially their metallics?
>>
>>98847193
no catch, thats the full army. They will also do physical sales later and sell the STL's at a higher price when the campaign ends.

The actual catch is that steamforge probably could be doing mostly plastics by this point because the community has clearly shown it exists but on the other hand I am glad we have things like this army release as full STLs so I can have them.
>>
Has anyone played this game? I found the rulebook at a local store and was curious about getting it when I thought it was good for 28mm skirmish, as in the cover says 25mm skirmish, but a quick flip through the book seems to show it's designed for hex based chit gaming? Bigger vehicle warfare maybe? It's from 1994 I believe and I'd never heard of it.
>>
>>98847251
Thanks for the head's up. I didn't see anything about the Cyrx stuff like their little bipdal jacks like pic related.
Seems like this is a pirate spinoff of the Warmahordes Cyrx instead of mainline stuff. I can see the mainline stuff being kept in physical only so Steamforge can still make some money.
But by chance has there been an "archive project" of scanning the Privateer Press era of models into STL form like how Warhammer gets those for retro models?

Close to biting the bullet and going in. Does anybody here know of a good "near black metal" acrylic paint? I know of Turbo Dork's Black Ice, but that metallic paint is more of a "straight black metal" I want something that is very dark grey, but details will be hidden and will be okay to put a black detailing wash over it.
>>
>>98847345
oh yeh if thats what you meant then yes its not the main cryx but specifically only their new second army the Dread Armada. Dread Armada is focusing on the naval side of cryx like the black fleet and ghost fleet though its a new army based off those not a reprint of the old forces.

The normal cryx stuff is kept to the main site just like most armies are, the main things they launch on the myminifactory are older armies they want to re release but dont want to commit production to such as grimkin/infernals/the pigs/convergence and sometimes some extra alternate sculpts or parts for models with a bit of terrain.

I wish there was an archive project for old PP stuff but as far as I know there's nothing like it and we still dont have that many copycat sculpters. We did get some cryx alternative warjack parts and terrain from the welcome box for the tribe but that was it for normal cryx I think.
>>
>>98847345
Yeah, the Dread Armada get the flying bonejacks instead of the chickenjacks, and the Garthim jacks instead of the bipedal helljacks. They also get the Kraken colossal, the other Cryx army got a giant burrowing worm jack for their colossals.

The blind bag figures come with a 4x3 flat base that has a single row of studs down the center and the other two are smooth. They are sculpted by mark copplestone but they arnt part of his creator owned company copplestone casting. These are older future wars miniatures.

You can tell the difference as copplestone casting has integrated bases and the older “future wars” by grenadier has slotta bases like the models above.

They are 90% the same but there is some minor difference in the actual miniatures

There's not a difference between 'mainline' and 'other' in mk4. Factions exist mostly narratively and occasionally with some shared models. Specific armies are now what you play (similar to mk3 themes). So the models in Necrofactorum (the physically sold Cryx) and the models in Dread Armada (STL Cryx) are not interchangeable at all.

I strongly advise against using FedEx. A ton of their internal functions related to cash allocations and dispute resolution are outsourced to jeets, who are unreliable and semi-literate at best. Seriously though, if Anon has a 3D printer, he could just print a stud or two on any other type of base.
>>
>>98852971
15mm is only in resin and not available as STLs
28mm is resin and plastic depending on the specific models, some armies are made for printfags so they are never going to get plastic releases, but you can get them from the creator's store if you have no printer
There hase been some periodic make-to-order-for-the-last-time runs for the old 28mm metals recently, but that's more like a collectors thing. Some old metals were scanned and are available as STLs.

If the type of minis are a lot, then don't even look into the different games that were made for Quar. It almost gave me a headache when I first tried to make sense of which one is which.

>3-4 colours
You can try using the Zorn palette (Red, ochre, yellow, black). Even better if you get single pigment paints (hobby or heavy body artists', either will work well). That palette was designed to maximise the amount of tones you can get from mixing between its colours, and you can definitely get a lot out of it. Once you feel comfortable mixing colours, you can gradually replace or expand parts of the pallette to your desires.

Its going to be hardware store paints only if I'm using what's here. I'm going to see what I can thin and mix with just the primaries, black and white. Tempted to zenithal undercoat and try making washes for some of it if the paint available can be thinned easily.
>>
>>98854473
>hardware store paints
Good Lord, please don't.
Hardware store paint is often vinyl based, and a lot thicker than model paint. It's hard to thin without it breaking apart and will generally be an unpleasant thing to work with.
I know it's cheaper per millilitre, but if possible, try to get actual hobby or artist acrylics, as those will be leagues better. Yeah, you can probably get 10x the amount of pain for the same cost, but it simply won't be good enough. Better pay the acrylic premium and whatever shipping is necessary than rely on the subpar stuff.
Are you an experienced painter? From your post I get the feeling that you might be starting out. If you're getting the bad stuff, in addition to having beginners' skills, you'll be actually hindering yourself. Don't make painting a needlessly frustrating experience.
>>
>>98854621
>Good Lord, please don't.
Nah, I'll give it a look when its open and see what can be made with what's at hand. Might be suitable, might not, don't know yet. Not everything has to be done under perfect conditions with perfect supplies and perfect tools. The entire point is to see what can be done with limitations for its own sake.
Been painting and wargaming for 35 years. Fine tuned paintjobs have never been a high priority of mine but process work is enjoyable and interesting to me. Price point and quantity isn't the factor here at all, its for 16-20 miniatures total.
>>
>>98854473
>>98854687
>hardware store paints
Why? Since your on the internet presumably you can have something shipped to you. Even cheap appel barrel craft paint would be better then that stuff.
>>
>>98854708
Because I feel like it.
Working with what's local is an interesting experiment with using what's at hand and what can be done with limited resources.
I can also use the paint for other things that will come up in life around here but that wasn't the primary concern.
>>
>>98853078
>using smaller scale, like 10mm, switching inches to cm directly, where you have a unit on a single base?
That's literally THE standard hack for dealing with smaller play areas and storage space. The best part is a 50cm x 75cm play area is about the size of a briefcase, so you can store multiple megnetizable boards, scatter terrain, and several armies in a very small and portable package
>>98853094
>have the entire unit on 1 or 2 bases instead of individual models
Just use an "open formation"-style base - drill some holes at roughly squad coherency distances and put plugs or magnets on the bottoms of the minis. You could also use dice on the base to mark casualties. This works better at 15mm than 10mm.

>AoS or OPR
Why not use better rule-sets, like Warmaster and Kings of War? They're generally tuned more effectively for this sort of thing.
>>
>>98854810
I second anon (craftsperg here) and even I think apple barrel is shit quality.
if you're using housepaint (it pains me to say this) I'd rather you play with unpainted grey models.

>>
>>98854810
Well if you're going to do that, then know that rustoleum primers work, water based wood stain can be used as a wash, and for the love of god, always thin everything using the appropriate medium for whatever awful paint you find.
Also look around for a dollar store or equivalent, they have actual acrylic paints sometimes. Just don't get the washable "for kids" stuff, that's worse than hardware paint.
>>
>>98854891
They're just models not sacred objects. Not everything has to be how you imagine it should be. I'm not sure what you're worked up about.

>>98855105
>Is it really that bad to use the cheapest paint for these less important bits?
Depends on what you're up to.
Some people enjoy and focus on the painting side more than the modelling or gaming side, varies by inclination. If you're more interested in having a medium looking game piece and using it it'll be fine. If you're more interested in high res closeups of your model as a display piece getting more involved and having more specific materials is probably a good idea.
>>
>>98855112
No models to post? Kek
>>
>>98855122
Already posted them unpainted with the flowers. Hardware store isn't open and I didn't bring my collection with me to here. You'll have to wait at least a week. But you do know the rules right? You ask you post.
>>
>>98855105
Apple barrel is completely fine for terrain, it's what I use. You can use cheap craft paint for minatures with varying results. I wouldn't recommend it but if you just want paint on minatures then go for it. House paint is just laughably stupid.
>>
>>98855105
Apple Barrel is at least still acrylic. Its pigment density isn't great and it might not mix elegantly, but it still functions like any other acrylic and will take more layers of water based paint or glue over it just fine. If you're going to cover it in flock and sand anyway, then it doesn't matter.
Hardware paint could be latex or enamel or who knows what, won't thin the same or at all, might reactivate, could even theoretically react. The two most common paints in models is acrylic and oil for a reason.
>>
>>98855144
Reactivation is also why you should avoid children's paints even if you are okay using cheapo craft paint. Anything that's meant to be washed out is going to liquefy when it gets wet, including when more water based paints are put on it.

It's very likely automated models. Experiments in successful 4chan bot posting date back to Sychelles anon, who did an experiment with a robot conversing on this site several years ago. He was only the first PUBLIC person to do this and share results though, it's likely that advertisers, political groups, or whatever have been experimenting with this for longer.
But now, the availability of consumer LLMs is such that anyone can trivially set up a 4chan bot. It's not even gated by technical skill - it's piss easy to tell an agent "argue with this post, keep replying to every reply, wait this random number of seconds to avoid making the spacing too perfect, promote these points and use these words." It's so easy that you can just use it to troll people, you don't even need a reason expect that you wanted to fuck with someone and it amuses you to see them tilt at a bot for hours. And imagine if two LLMs, run by different people, get into an argument. They'd never quit. "Trolls trolling trolls" can become "LLMs trolling LLMs" as soon as any two people decide to automate their shitposting careers.
The sad fact is that setting up irritating chat agents is so very easy that it HAS to be happening, in my opinion. I don't think this was true when the "Dead Internet" people began alleging this years ago (at least running a bot would be confined to technical experts) but these schizo theories seem to have become true now that this tech is in public hands.
It's also true that 4chan is no longer the source of original content it once was and culture has migrated to Twitter, insta, etc. Leaving only boomers and genuine disfunctionals.
>>
>>98856361
Yeah but I don't understand how it happened so fast. It's like a light switched one day and this board instantly died, post count was way down and genuine conversation just stopped.
>>
>>98856236
Bunch of things at once you're just clicking on now.
Every single board except /s4s/, /vm/ and /vgm/ have lost at least 50% of their average post count in the last 5 years. All of them.
Roughly 35-40% of all internet traffic is bots flat out.
The remaining humans on /tg/ are tired. The 2010s tabletop game explosion has slowed down immensely and market capture has played its hand too much combined with nonstop culture war.
Very few people are willing to be wrong while simultaneously being very invested with what strangers or bots are doing and what those strangers or bots think of their posts.
Its harder to be light hearted in general as we slouch into economic recession.
Familiarity breeds contempt so while we simultaneously want earnest posts of actual gameplay we also despise something about them and look for things to tear down so this discourages the thing we say we actually like and why we're here.
Its Monday. Everyone's all fucked up on Monday.

How do you guys find local players for stuff? I'm looking at calendars on various FLGS websites (if they even have them) and it's all TCG events. So I look at the discords for FLGS (if I can even find a valid invite) and it's all dead channels. So I look at the facebook page and facebook is kill.

Am I going to annoy store workers if I just call and ask if they've seen players for specific games playing in the store? Finding players doing anything other than TCGs and GW feels like needles in a needle stack.

Honestly it's probably true. I remember the Sychelles anon guy going public with what he was doing, and how well it worked. People could tell something was going on, but it was hard to pin down, despite being fucking GPT-3 which was pretty braindead as LLMs go.

>>98856562
Most "bot" traffic is automated actual legitimate scripted bot stuff like scraping, indexing. I doubt there are many actual LLM agents floating around, but it would only take one or two to out-produce the entire population of any board.

In hindsight, SA charging a 10$ fee to make an account is pretty smart. At the time it was for other reasons, but it's looking better than ever now. This shit keeps up I'd pay an entrance fee to ensure I have living company.

I got back into university to study a second degree for fun, so I get to hang out with people in their early 20s. Just a couple weeks ago ol' me was telling them about the internet days of your and this exact topic came up. They were truly surprised to learn that this site has boards for everything like fashion, photography and papercraft, or that a big chunk of their "less mainstream" music taste was dictated by /mu a decade ago.
We really went from being the site that essentially codified most of internet/meme/weeb culture to the hub of undesirables.
Nowadays, most newfags come here for the culture war, shitposting and lax moderation, rather than the board and what it has to offer. Parallel to that, we have been haemorrhaging good posters that get tired and move to greener pastures where the hobby is actually prioritised.
Just look at how little homebrew is posted nowadays, look at the amount of slop and bait threads. Nobody plays any games, nobody engages in the hobby.
It's saddening, but that's what this site has become.

I mean it's a small world; Honestly wouldn't be in /awg/ unless Brikwars was mentioned specifically to not irritate the shit out of people...

Wait, twenty years?!
That might actually be a different Brikwars Autist, my entire Brikwars history only goes back like, 16 years.

Hype.

I love this stories.
If they are real or not it is irrelevant. The "cahuin" is the important thing here.
Tell me more.

I mean there isn't too much to it, I'm an under-socialized autist that easily becomes insufferable when hyper-fixated.

Brikwars is the perfect intersection of Lego and Wargaming, and after failing at University I was using it to try and remain sane despite my continually degrading life situation.
It's one thing to deal with your own failings at life, another to try and do so while ALSO dealing with your alcoholic father's own suicidally self-destructive depression spiral.

I was just being cheeky about getting banned from a lego thing and an unfortunate acronym for a miniature company.
Not to discourage you but there have been a lot of books in the skirmish wargame side of things that have sold quite well that do indeed work largely along
>just make up your own rules man
I think its a fad that has largely passed but there's still a notable amount of it.

I mean that's the thing; Mike COULD make it work, but it'd require him to do two thing.
The first is returning to his original Art style, Lego Group be damned; Just because he was the OG Artist for Robloxs doesn't mean people want to see shitty cubism.

The second is actually being willing to hammer out what rules you will have.
Brikwars biggest draw was being able to stat up any crazy thing you could make out of Lego, and thus pretty much anything.
Scaling back to "Minifig Combat" is just not going to cut it, because that just boils down to having the same number of figures!

Is the new starter for quar a fully new edition? Like is that hardcover rulebook they put out earlier this year already outdated?
>>
for viking era stuff is victrix the go to or does anyone else have very nice models? 28mm is a big plus.
>>
>>98859877
Victrix is great, and so is Footsore Miniatures if you're not a dork who throw a sissy fit over metal
>>

>Footsore Miniatures
nice I'll check them out.
>metal
I mean if it was identical minis and one was plastic and one was metal I'd get the plastic but I don't mind metal.

No, the new starter has the same rules, but softcover.
The rulebook is not getting updates, any errata or changes are going in the free stat profile documents.
Which I find very annoying because some ability of gear descriptions were put in the rulebook and some in the stats doc. Why? I don't know, they should've put all of that in the stats doc so you wouldn't need to flip pages and have both open.
Also we might get a campaign system sometime, but I assume that is also going to be a separate free doc. Or at least I hope.

The next rulebook they'll release will be for larger scale battles. I suspect in the next 1 or 2 years, but who knows.

>>98859954
iirc either WGA or qualtieri himself said the bigger battle rules are coming in q2(?) 2027
>>
>>98859954
Oh that's good, a buddy was interested in trying it out and I have the old starter box and some fidwog plastics and that hardcover book, would've been annoyed if they'd already outmoded it
