Sometimes the AI does some wicked shit!
    >>
    >>2510316
This happened for me a few times before the great schism. It all sorted itself out after though.
    >>
What are the best tenets and doctrines for a min max religion to compliment playing tall? Sky burials seems really good because it gives you Charnel Grounds which seems to be the best duchy building in the game, at least for your primary duchy. Esoterisism seems decent, it's the one I always go for. And Communal Posessions also seems good for playing tall.
    >>
    >>2510319
    >tall
There is no tall in this game. Tech is time gated and the only important thing is rushing for more MAA regiments and units to stack wipe even larger armies.
    >>
    >>2510319
Theodosian Walls is the best duchy building but that's hardly fair.
80 plague resistance is the magic number, any higher than that does nothing. Isolate Capital + Charnel Grounds + Hospice is enough to reach it.
Some of BGA's new Christian tenets are fairly OP.
Simony gives alot of money and stewardship. Get Scholasticism until you get both unique innovations from the Court Scholar then dump it. Or don't, the free stats and innovation progress are also very nice.
Love Thy Neighbor gives alot of flat and percent development growth but you need 60+ popular opinion which is difficult to get. Once you do though, it is very nice.
To Work Is to Pray is a 20% development growth. The main feature is the -20% building construction time, which in combination with a Royal Architect is -50%. It should be easy to get to -80% with further bonuses.

Communal Possession's decision is bad, -30% control in all counties in exchange for 25% development growth is not a good trade.
Esoterisism doesn't give you much, it gives a bit more learning experience and an easier way to get a trait for +5 learning. You can do better.
For doctrines, Theocratic Clerical Tradition and Spiritual HoF are strictly better with Ecclesiastical. Divorce Approval and Sacraments Central so your HoF will have more money to shake down. Monasticism Absent or Forbidden, monastic orders do not pay up their income, so it's hard to extort them. Clerical Function Control unless you're going for Love Thy Neighbor or have popular opinion problems in which case Alms and Pacification.

What >>2510355 said is correct though. You only need enough of an edge to outscale the AI in MAAs, any gold beyond that is gratuitous.

Went about this in a very retarded way, but now its great.
    Here's the system:
Whoever occupies a duchy capital gets an event to establish an independent principality, all friendly occupied counties get transferred over. The remainder de jure counties, if there are any, get auto-annexed upon friendly occupation as long as the crusade is still going on. Leading to some dynamic borders.

A bit OP maybe? Certainly unconventional in regards to the hoi-esque occupation

What are you saying here? You need that duchy building to reach that number (unless you get it from other sources), I hate the Theodosian Walls and the one Roma gets too because I'm going to be lacking plague resistance until the late medieval, and at that point it hardly matters.

    >Seduction
self-explanatory wankshit. Less jokingly, pretty helpful for getting in good graces of the opposite sex, which plays off Scheming tree. AI doesn't make use of it beyond some crusty old fuck seducing as many women as he can while perpetuating Herpes until someone decides to imprison or kill them for it.
I can't say anything on Torturer beyond "I think it gives Dread"
    >>
    >he does not exclusively play dreadmaxxing north korea mode where any vassal who isn't terrified of you is getting imprisoned

I remembered I could look at wiki
Torturer looks like it'd be handy for conquest & arbitrary arrest, but not particularly as a first tree at all. So say however much into Martial trees (particularly Overseer), Torturer, boom lots of dread and vassals willing to do fuckall against you.
Heir's gonna be fucked on opinion though unless he has a period of time to chill the fuck out and let opinion mods mellow.
I still wouldn't bother outside rolling Conqueror unless there was a fair bit of internal border gore and it bothered me enough to warrant a reset button. Which might also be a pretty good use case, as one bumps up Crown Authority.

    >>
    >>2510611
Isolate Capital + Charnel Grounds without upgrades is enough to get to 50 plague resist which is the second threshold. The 80% threshold is the most important, as it reduces the chance of getting infected for a character to get infected by 75%.
The difference doesn't actually mater if you get Water rituals, as it will bring it down to the minimum infection chance for any plague even if it's the Black death at 50% resist. At which point you're better off going for a Hospice + Control Plagues + Isolate Capital. And getting something like a Royal Reserve instead.
The development loss doesn't matter nearly as much as having your dynasts and good courtiers die off.

Man, succession in pagan lands is sucha fucking annoying game of whackamole. It doesn't matter I have more MAA than my neigbours combined, they somehow think short rule means I'm vulnerable and I have to fight 3 defensive wars at once until I run out of neigbours that I don't have truces with because for some fucking reason the AI is coded to declare war as soon as a slot frees up.

I just take it as-is, not like it's necessary to have that many individual holdings+delegates building shit to AI which is not that big of a deal
it's more annoying having to account for it with landing vassals imo, they'll inevitably get into tyranny wars trying to fill out demesne limit but if they'll at least sit on their ass 1st generation they might not immediately go on what may as well be a scripted revokation spree

Use hard power power projection to lessen the amount of empires. Conqueror rule? Less if you have pagans on the map (867, 1066) and normal in 1178. No inheritance, of course.
    >>
    >>2510681
Vassal opinion is piss easy to manage. Not that it matters anyway since any non-noob player should be able to mop the floor with any rebellion with even if it's half the empire standing against you.

    >>2510981

    >>
    >>2511124
I think English is slightly better because it starts with Longbow Competitions and can gain the Audacious Cadets (because Norman hybrid), giving it the best archer unit and a top tier heavy cav unit

Are longbows really that good? I thought it was all about cavalry doom stacks.

Interesting thing about English culture I noticed, if you make it via decision, it gets longships from Norman, but in the new 1178 start date, it doesn't get longships. And fun fact, longships are what give you access to the pillage and adventure legacies (and that -75% embarkation cost is really nice)
    >>
    >>2511124
norse >> anything else with huscarls > anything with good maa HIs >>>>>>>> anything with good HAs >>>>>>>>>>>>> anything with HAs in general >>>>>>> everything else with army move speed. Or you know, mouthbreathe spam crossbows and some siege and spears.
Pointless longterm since you can mix and match trads tho (and norse has bonus points there too).

    >>2511135
You'd want either lbs or conrois since lb trad directly fucks your hc size and only if you're a vagabond since they're cheap on provisions. If you want hc that's actually good I can't recommend the georgian ones enough. Fucking heavy knights that slap on hills and mountains.
    >>
    >>2511145
    >lb trad directly fucks your hc size
But that's the beauty of audacious cadets it directly counters the longbow downside.
    >>
    >>2511145
I mean but Conrois beat them out in damage (even when you divide their damage in half because they're a size 50 regiment rather than size 100), and they get bonuses to their heavy cavalry from Audacious Cadets and coastal warriors gives you no such bonus. Also I think they get early access to the Lancer accolade which gives Retinue Lancers, which are second only to elephants and maybe some of the horse archers, but we're talking about Euro cultures.

    >this is the best
    >i larp
    Pick one.

No one is pretending it's a sweaty game or that you can't beat AI like a dog with anything if you stack enough modifiers, as one does in a paracuck game, but way I figure you're "solving" a problem you yourself caused. And that fix is costing you a trad slot. My man, that could've been concubines from the welsh instead or any number of different things that boost hc, archers or anything else with no downsides. And what are you getting for it? Two mid units that shine in completely opposite periods (as in by the time lbs reveal their final form you should be able to afford gendarmes as well), benefit from drastically different terrain for holdings and are the most commonly countered in the game both by different units and partly terrain.

You get what I'm saying, right? Good on you for having your fun but too many loops for no real benefit.

    >>2511152

Yeah, I'll make a post that can't possibly be made by AI.

Recently I got this video in my recommended, and I watched a bit of it and it's mindraped me ever since.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v2HOfdOvNrg
Basically it's some epic memer spouting edgy takes while playing CK3.
Why did something so mundane mindrape me?
This is exactly the sort of stuff I used to post on /pol/ a literal decade ago. Only when I did it it was contrarian, now every other zoomer has these opinions. I say "has these opinions", but they don't actually have them, they just repeat whatever their tiktok, insta reels, X, FYP, discords, and algorithms tell them to think. The shit I posted from my basement as a kid to other like minded weirdos is now the mainstream.
I was cool before it was cool, and it's not cool anymore because everyone thinks that way. My culture is not their costume, they have no right to be fed MY once white hot, now ice cold takes and think they're hot shit while doing it.
Basically I'm the old Jew in the tomorrow belongs to me video, except instead of being ass-pained because I'm being persecuted it's because they took my counter-culture and made it lame.
    >>
    >>2510290
Seeing all the memes I used to shitpost about as a kid get adopted by normies infuriates me on a spiritual level.

Now I understand why blacks are so butthurt by the n word.
    >>
    >>2511557
Kek I literally just posted something similar.

Seeing all these fucking kids talk about the blackpill and hypergamy and shit is funny af.

    >>

I've noticed a fair bit of what I'd associate with cringe&lame boomerisms hijacking that sort of online edginess if that adds to your frustration any. lot of it's ugly like hell with no aesthetic desire or sense, like they're making it to give a kick to an older relative who can't really see anymore. I can sort of recall seeing that sort of gaudy shit and being just disappointed in it as far back as 2014~2015, so I wouldn't be shocked if a chunk of it today stems from the teens of then. They're gonna be 30 year old boomers soon.

No, they're caused by low opinion not different faith/culture.
You will always have at least 1 belligerent retard governor lowering county opinion to -100. Forcing the faction to spawn, which then coerce other counties to join because of course they can.

I can't click on the hunting lodge.
    >>
Maybe it's because I didn't have 50 experience when I completed the legend? Has anyone else dealt with this before? Should I just cut my losses and build the palace in a barony I don't care about?
    >>
    >>2511726
You needed to have 50 hunter experience when you complete the legend, not after. The tooltip doesn't communicate that though. Just use
    effect root = { add_character_flag = legendary_hunting_lodge_flag }
In the console if you don't want to load a save.
    >>
    >>2511746
Will that disable achievements? I swear, I had the option to complete the legend basically as soon as my guy's father died, and he was a crazy good hunter who actually competed a legendary hunt.

Also my wife wants to go to India. Should I let her? Maybe I'll let her go once she gives me a son, she's only given me daughters so far.
    >>
    >>2511755
    Yeah.
Legendary palace is still pretty good though. The extra building slot makes it where it's only competing against other buildings in price.
    >>
    >>2511764
Fuck it, I'll try to get it again, I have a county who's capital is in farmland, I'll just put it there.

I really wanted to get some legendary hunts going this run, and it says that building boosts your chances of getting one, becasue one time I got an artifact from one that gave me +1 domain limit. But with the new "search for legendary hunts" option on the huntsmaster I already got one this run (but no artifacts that give domain limit).

Thank you for the help BTW.
    >>
What the fuck I just looked it up and they removed +1 domain limit items. What the fuck? What's even the point of legendary hunts now?
    >>
    >>2511776
They made the prestige and piety rewards from T&T activities sane in 1.19. So now there isn't much point in hosting them anymore besides scheming or RP.
Think of them as an AI gold sink that forces character interaction the AI wouldn't normaly engage in.
    >>
    >>2511790
I still like doing them so I can watch those little bars go up. Though they don't seem to do much for your knights specifically your acclaimed knights, and I feel like that should be one of the main draws of it, a way to train knights while at peace.
    >>
    >>2511794
That's what tourneys and accolades are for

    >>2511801
I was talking about tournaments, is that not what you meant by T&T?
    >>
    >>2511804
Oh, alright. Just that T&T added "grand" activities including grand hunts. And if you have traditions for hunting, hunts can still remain very relevant.
    >>
    >>2511806
I mean yeah the regular hunts are good, the issue is that the legendary hunts aren't much different, they just have a lower success chance.
    >>
Really I just hate that they always chose to nerf the player and never chose to buff the AI.
    >>
    >>2511807

    >>
    >>2511907
No, idk, some people think it's hard. It's easier than something like Civilization, mainly becasue there's really no win condition besides survive.
    >>
    >>2511910
It sounds interesting enough and the character creator seems super extensive
    >>
    >>2511895
    I initially read them
once I start recognizing them, I just check who's being affected then slap the button I want
traits affecting stress differently usually winds up being the main time snag desu. Made me hate the paranoid/shy traits. Diligent too though that's mostly directed at AI family with the trait, since they are entirely reliant on me to somehow wear down that stress bar. Fuckers.
    >>
    >>2511907
It’s probably the easiest of the paradox games but if the extent of your experience with strategy gaming is stardew valley it might be hard for you.

I hate how fucking long everything takes in this game. Why does the closing ceremony of a grand tournament take a week? Hell why do the contests take that long? Fasts and tournaments should take like a week tops. I don't know why the game was made like this.
    >>
    >>2511930
I'd be happy if they implemented a way to impose a time limit for attendence, along with a list of guests who could make it in time depending
I don't wanna wait around for duke fucksbutts to take 6 months just to eat some totally-not-turkey-legs

I just checked, looks like if you limit a feast to just your court/courtiers, it'll take place in like 12 days. lmfao, curate guest list I guess

I think the real issue as to why the AI is so weak is that they never upgrade their holdings, they're not smart enough to save up gold and upgrade their castles so shit just stays locked at level 1. Whenever I play a game that starts in 867 by the time it hits about 1050, I'm pretty much unstoppable, no matter how small I am. Like I had a run where I was king of France (just the northern half) and I only had the duchy of Normandy, and I didn't even control the whole thing, and I was stack wiping a very strong Abbasid empire, if you're stack wiping the Abbasids nothing can really stop you.

They need to make the AI smarter or something. I don't even think the issue with this game is the modifier stacking, I think it's the fact that the AI has Downs syndrome.
    >>
Anyway, long story short, I hate Swedes.

Intrigue is hilariously powerful, it just requires constant micromanagement. Dread, even for "nice" rulers, has practically no downside and tons of upside. Stack like 30 natural dread and your vassals will basically never cross you.

Postives are, estate bonuses, power family bonuses, more potential MAAs overall.

The downside is that MAAs triple in price. Accolades are now inherited with the noble family title, if it's destroyed or lost in succession you lose your accolades, primogenture russian roulette if you will. Your income is now heavily effected by governor efficiency which makes your income inconsistant between inheritances.

Not worth it, Admin for the top liege is augmented by making governors print money and MAAs and then forcing that up. Without that it kind of sucks.

Why are there no Goths in Crimea? Weren't they around until some shockingly late date?
    >>
One thing I've always thought they should do is give rulers aspirations, like a title they want to form, or a decision they want to take. Or maybe their aspiration could just be to develop the realm and build lots of buildings, or just to party and hunt a lot. These aspirations could be based on their personality, and their heir would have a chance of inheriting said aspiration if they have a personality that matches it.

I think this would make the AI a lot more interesting, instead of them just sitting around sitting on their asses, or declaring wars for weird ass kingdoms. To be fair the AI does seem a bit better than it used to be, but it's still not that good. I also think if they made them more aggressive about declaring de jure wars it would help with the border gore issues a lot.

The religion shit is so fucking fluid it's absurd. It feels like they should have expanded on personal belief system and focus on faiths banning certain tenets rather than having the three mainline one, or even just gotten rid of the tenet system as it existed and instead made religion work more like cultures so reforms take time and you have a chance to diverge if it starts doing something you don't like. Maybe even hard requirements for doctrines, so a certain percentage of characters worshipping the faith need an associated trait (witchcraft, fornicator, powerful female ruler, etc.) for the more controversial changes to go through.
I played some Muslims and when time for some Crusades and Jihads had come Christianity was already splintered into a fuckton of rites, half of them led by a woman, half of them having most of sins being virtuous and half having some utterly insane tenets and most of them considered each other evil at that point. CK3 really shouldn't be a modern day simulator.

I can't get over how much I hate the new religion system with the changing tenets. Like in my game Mozarabism took over as the dominant rite, but does it feel any different? No, it's the fucking same becasue it's just cycling through all the same tenets. What's the point of a core tenet if it's core one day and heretical the next? I've said this before but why would I ever make my own rite? It's just gonna change and feel the same as the base rite after a while.

This is actually the most shit change they've ever made to the game. And I know some people are gonna say:

    >hur dur you're just mad that you can't power game any more

That's really not the reason. The most power gaming I do is adding the Esotericism tenet to my religion. Like for example sky burials is objectively the best funerary tradition, but if I'm playing as a viking I'm not gonna take it, because it doesn't fit thematically. 90% of the things I add to my religion are meme tier tenets that I chose for role play purposes.

I really hope they reverse this, they need to reverse it man, it's totally ruined religion.

Everyone and their mother change religions all the time just because they can.
    >>
    >>2513754
So what they did is separated the tenants from religions and now treat them as playing cards for priestly characters to shuffle around from the approved list every so often. The approved list/deck can be changed with a new priestly activity. You also get a personal tenant or few that can bypass that list.
In practice? You want to make your own brand of catholicism with blackjack and hookers as non-priest? OK, but now you need a fuckboy priest you puppet into being your pocket pope. Flavorful as hell.

Yes. He shows up in contemporary sources, so it's fair to say there was a viking guy called Bjorn raiding France and Mediterranean around that period who probably was either a ruler or a relative of a significant ruler to be able to gather significant forces.
    >Harald
Probably. We don't have any contemporary sources - we have later copies of what would be a contemporary source but they could be later inventions. That being said the idea of there being a viking guy called Harald who was a king who fought some battles and maybe went to England at least once is probably true.

I believe the only location in Europe that paradox have said they're kinda making guesses for the 867 start is in the Estonian, Lithuanian baltic area cause of how hard it was to find a complete record of who owned what back then. As for the Aztec and whatnot while we might not have 100% accurate names for 867 central America i believe they at least have enough info to give you something to go with. The respective cultures have been settled there since the bronze era. So while Spain did its thing there's still stuff to discover and at least get a skeleton of what things might've looked like.

I think the difficult think to pin down would be the native Americans in North America. They were so nomadic that outside of a few hills where Cahokia was people have found almost nothing about them in terms of borders.
