Then said he's never releasing it cuz muh depression or whatever.

Someone should use AI to poach this shit from under him. I think in this case it's fully justified.

I meant to say, It replaces the redesigned zero, from MMZ3, with sprites based on his appearance in X. All custom sprites.

not sure if this is the right place to ask this but ill give it a try. ive been using RMG lately and so far it's pretty good, but whenever i try to play certain rom hacks (specifically SM64 ones) it just freezes or stops working properly, is there anyone here that knows how to fix this issue? do i just switch emulator instead?

Welcome to the pre-slop Mega Man Zero romhack scene, especially in the japanese/weeaboo side, where they'll just showcase you their shit and never share because of the million excuses they make to keep blueballing people who want something that isn't a fucking playable Omega hack.

If you're planning on trying to do a similar hack with their showcases in Claude Opus 5.5, or just your hands, i suggest doing it very quietly before they take notice and start taking down their videos because of moralfag jap feefees.

I'm already trying to pin down all the videos i can find to archive before i can attempts to do any attempt of method to reverse engineer via pure reference.

    Here's a few:
    >Sonic Neon: The Trial
A fan-sequel of Sonic 3 with Mecha Sonic as the main villain. Currently only has 2 full zones.

    Sonic 3 Unlocked
A Sonic 3 & Knuckles hack that adds Encore Mode (partially), Mighty and Ray from Sonic Mania, and Amy from Sonic Origins.

    >The Green Hill 8
A Sonic 1 Green Hill Zone hack inspired by an indie game called "The Exit 8".

    >Chaotix Complete (v0.1)
An AI hack of Knuckles' Chaotix that adds Sonic, Tails and Elemental Shields (and some other small things, like the Sonic 1-3 jump SFX).

    >Tag Team Quest 32X
A Sonic 2 32X port that adds Knuckles, a few new bosses and the Tag Team mechanic from Advance 3

    >Sonic 1 Level Creator - Tech Demo
A Sonic 1 hack that lets you create your own GHZ level layout on an actual Genesis / MegaDrive.

    >Sonic 3 Goodliest Edition
A Sonic 3 shitpost hack. Only for Sonic 3 A.I.R., tho.

    >Project: Mushroom-MD
SMAS Super Mario Bros. 1 recreated in the S3&K engine. Only 3 levels are playable.

Worked on an asar patch for /v/orld 3 1.09 to add character switching. It works in a hacky way so it only changes graphics in levels, doesn't change name bar or overworld graphics. It doesn't save your choice after reset either.
The .asm hijacks GM14 uberasm to add new level code without needing source files. The levels are for Low-Budget Storehouse, 1A0 is a new room and 26 is an edit that connects the rooms. The ExGraphics folder has the player graphics that should be inserted as ExGFX. I used the ones from the poll (/v/, ayamari, /vr/, bury pink, sneed, starfist, captain vidya, galo, anon, waha) but any GFX that follows the GFX32 format will work. Just make sure you save the rom in lunar magic after the patch or your save states and maybe other stuff will start acting wrong/crash.
Level 1A0 has 11 blocks, hitting one changes the player to moot or the 10 new characters. The blocks aren't special, the new level 1A0 code checks for an alive block and uses its X position to know the GFX number to load. The X positions start at a hardcoded point then every 2 blocks. It will lag whenever a block is active but that's just because it's decompressing graphics every frame and I couldn't figure out a good way to make it run only once per hit. I didn't test the entire game but it only overwrites player graphics RAM. The room doesn't look that pretty either but I wanted to get something usable out there.

Despite what it doesn't have, I hope it makes some people out there happy.

Can someone give me a bit of a rundown on what quirks you run into programming for the GB vs the NES or the GBC? I had started learning NES ASM a while back, finished a few tutorials and made a very, very basic shmup, but I wanted to start learning and practicing again for something bigger. I thought about trying an NES RPG but I recently replayed Final Fantasy Legend for the GB and thought it was really impressive how big its world was for a 1980s handheld.

It's literally the tutorial project from famicom dot party. I went through the motions of adding more sprites, modifying player character and enemy behavior, that sort of thing, but it's largely just the tutorial with my version of a romhack thrown on top.

By extremely basic, I mean you power up the game and you're dropped in to gameplay immediately with enemies that disappear when you shoot them and a ship that respawns when hit, basically a prettier Atari 2600 game. But it does work, and it runs on real hardware, which was enough of a triumph for a first attempt a few years ago.

    1) The github disassembles are long in the tooth now (Sonic 1, 2, 3&K)
    2) Esrael Neto's combined SFII Memory Mapped S123&K rom is the gold standard now: it has all the art assets and everything works well.
    3) Whining about code stealing: All the code was stolen from SEGA (and art assets too, and the characters): and the Sonic Hackers use the free-software style disassembles as their base: but when they do a few lines of m60000 ASM work: that must be protected at all costs.

This makes everyone not want to bother.
Esrael won't re-release the ASM source code:
And no one else knows how to use the super streetfighter 2 memory mapper to recreate his work.
And no one knows how to disassemble memory mapped 512kb-chunked roms with ghidra.

Esrael noted that the Rom was originally made from those public dissembles.
His Liutenant Casio told people they'd better dare not try to disassemble it and use it themselves.

Then there is the issue of the SHC website: the admins ban you if you piss them off. So why bother?

TLDR: There's a golden cup: it's been achieved. No one want's to redo that work that's already been done and then closed up again.
There was a time when the Sonic Hacking community was going in a Free Software direction. That time is gone.

You can't even register at the Sonic Retro nor Sonic Research forums: their email registration will not send mail.
It's all a closed shop now.

That's why you have few entries

Things that could be done that would be exciting:
Re-Free the SFII Mapped all-in-one S1/2/3&K asm: so that
The Sonic Random Green Hill Zone (s1rl-v011.bin) rom could also be disassembled:
and that code _STOLEN!!!!_ (OMG!): and expanded to gradually
be usable (perhaps different algorithms) for each Sonic 1,2,3&K chunk set

I'm sure I've violated some code of the Sonic Hacking Scene here:
I mean people in it place their name above the name of SonicTeam in the opening credits, they put their own copyright marks (C) Bla bla bla in
    >>
    >>12895445
You do know that patch files are equally as copyright infringing as the entire rom, right?
    1) The patch file is a non-seperable work so you can't claim seperability as a defense (ie it only works with the copyrighted work)
    2) It is an annotation
    3) It is a derivative work.

Derivative works, including annotations are controllable by the original copyright holder: as one of their exclusive rights.

So I do not understand why you people don't just distribute the entire rom: you are already committing copyright infringement with the patch.
    >NO IM NOT
    Yes you are.
    >NO WE HAVE OUR OWN PROXY VERSION OF COPYRIGHT LAW
    No you do not.

Rom hackers also whine about code stealing even though they stole everything from the original asset:
    which makes them hypocrates.

Free Software is honest: it want's (originally) (from RMS's words) proprietary software to be illegal: thus the disassemblies of old games and public posting of that source code is consistent with those ideals. Free Software doesn't pre-suppose Copyright : it only uses it as a "hack" when it is in place (GPL) (which doesn't work anymore due to the Oracle/Google supreme court case which allows any commercial entity to use your work if you are not commercially exploiting it in some space)
Opensource is similar but does pre-suppose Copyright.

Rom hackers believe Copyright does not apply to the people they're ripping of:
but DOES apply to their work.
    Complete hypocrites.
If they'd work in a Free-Software like atmosphere: which for a brief shining moment the Sonic Hackers did with the disassemblies: they'd get alot more done.
Now it's back to the fifedoms and black caves.
    >>
    >>12893719 >>12877994
The Sonic Hacking Contest has gotten too far up it's own ass.
The people running it think they own the sonic m68k hacking hobby.
They also believe they can dictate the behavior, speech, and beliefs of the hackers.
Much like Opensource projects have decided they can police the online and offline speech of "their" devs (which lead to the banning and later suicide of Mircea Kitsune (quake/Darkplaces nexuiz/Xonotic programmer, map maker, and 3d modler): and punish them if they express a view the Admins dislike anywhere in the world or on some other platform.

This really feels like an act of conversion:
At first: both in the Sonic Hacking Contest world and the Open Source world: the claims were:
"only the code matters" and "freedom of speech".
Then once the project becomes "successful":
"we don't want to be associated with your ideas: you are banned from furthur development"
"we are keeping your code, and 3d assets however".

Feels like fraud in the inducement, and a violation of federal civil rights since the goal is that the Admins of the Project etc leverage their power to ban to censor the speech of the developer (who actually did the work).

Something similar in the SHC scene: the Admins use their leverage to silence and control the people actually doing the hacking work.
    Seems that's everywhere now.

Codes of Conduct for free stuff people are working on for nothing.

    >>
    >>12895707
in the usa, banning people isn't a violation of the first amendment. the first amendment's protection against speech restrictions only applies to those imposed by government. private restrictions on speech like forum rules don't apply.

    >>12895654
Just use AI to do it.
    Fuck em.
    >>
    >>12895687
    >actually, ROMhack patches are the same as sharing an entire ROM online!!!1!
Not really, because patches (usually) don't come with the full game. They only come with the bytes that changed between the original and your hack.
For example, if I made a hack of SMB that changed Mario's sprites and turned it into a patch, said patch would only come with Mario's sprites and nothing else.
If patches like that actually infringed the law, don't you think places like RHDN would be already long gone?

Althrough to be a bit fair, there are cases where people use patches to replace a whole game with another. When SEGA launched their Genesis emulator for Steam, they allowed mod support for the games, and people made patches to fully replace games with ones not in SEGA's collection (like Sonic 3).

    >You can't even register at the Sonic Retro nor Sonic Research forums: their email registration will not send mail
That sounds like a bug. If you're on their Discord you might as well try and ask an admin about it.

As for open sourcing, that's been a huge debate within those websites you mentioned although in recent years some have been more relaxed on the subject.

Do agree with your other points but realistically the Sonic ROM hacking community has been a shit show for a very long time. And don't get me started on the 3D side, 2D modding etc.
But that's not specifically to be blamed on SHC entirely. Some of the changes made this year are quite good but too many people have been chased away for people to care. They don't even have a regular stream schedule any more because the usual people who would do it have all had enough so anyone can literally stream from Twitch or YouTube using #SHC2026Live in title.
SSRG is a dead site that should have been shut down years ago. Many of these sites effectively fragmented over time and split off into various Discord servers which are circlejerks.
Retro is barely updated although the owner Scarred Sun recently returned after years of being inactive (unlike other places, Retro doesn't care about inactive staff, there's still loads of them who don't log in).
The problem is that nobody really wants to address the real problems in the community. There's a lot of gate keeping that goes on, quite a lot of back stabbing and there's a lot of dirty tactics played against those who don't play ball.

If you don't like what is going on with Retro, SHC, all the rest, then people need to get off their asses and make an alternative that will actually get off the ground. They might even win back some people too.
Personally someone should make a little AI hacking contest for Sonic stuff and watch all the seething that goes on because of it. It won't be long until these AI bots figure out how to make usable 68k code.

Patches may be copyright infringement, but distributing patches instead of ROMs is a display of good faith toward copyright holders. Even if it's all lip service and everyone knows 99% of players pirate ROMs anyway, keeping the hacking scene and the warez scene separate spares the hacking scene a lot of legal grief. For as much shit as people give companies like Nintendo for being litigious, they scarcely go after ROM hacks.

    >If patches like that actually infringed the law, don't you think places like RHDN would be already long gone?

They do infringe the law. Copyright is a Federal Issue however: which means you need a Federal Bar attorney to pursue it. The cost is 250k -1 million dollars just to run the case through the system with a good firm. And what would the recovery be?

I know for a fact that annotations are controlled under copyright law because I studied it during law school. That includes: taking a transparency: drawing additions to micky mouse: selling that transparency. That is a non-seperable derivative work: it relies on the underlying original work for any meaning. It is controlable by the copyright owner.

    You will now tell me:
    1) I'm lying
    2) I'm a crap lawyer
    3) I'm wrong.

SEGA doesn't take things down because SEGA announced that they like fan games and are glad people are keeping the characters alive. They activly hire from the Rom Hacking scene.

Your argument is similar to this argument:
    >Hey, a palm Tree has attested that Jesus is God.
    >So that must mean Jesus is God right
Answer: >A palm tree can say whatever it wants; doesn't mean it's true
    ---A 5000 page volume

"They would have been sued in a federal court which would cost the company suing them 250k-1million dollars: and recover nothing"
    "Therefore annotations are Not infringing!!!"
    >>
    >>12895931
Bullshit argument. (also ROMs are all over the net so another strike against said argument: obviously none of the copyright owners really care: the most they do is send a DMCA request if they're nintendo; which costs nothing. SEGA, the real prize (because of Sonic): doesn't do anything.)
    It's copyright infringement either way.
And as Richard Matthew Stallman said: Free the Software. (and he used to say that proprietary software should be illegal: and that the GPL was just a hack of copyright law: he was against copyright law on programs to begin with).
    >>
    >>12895905
We could all start by re-freeing the software, in the spirit of Richard Matthew Stallman's original ideas from the 1970s/1980s (when he really did want proprietary software to be nonexistant: illegal) (Back then Free Software didn't pre-suppose Copyright: whereas Opensource does):
This is an AI produced outline of how to disassemble Neto's Sonic1,2,3&K all-in-one which uses the SuperStreetFighterII memory mapper. (512k chunks after the first 32mbit)
    https://github.com/sonfan76/PossiblyDisassembleSonDeltaOrigins40Mb/tree/main
    https://github.com/sonfan76/PossiblyDisassembleSonDeltaOrigins40Mb/blob/main/memmaapper2.txt

Neto, however said it is impossible because he uses tricks to make it so:
    >Esrael Neto >— >9:13 PM If SEGA is not against the hack, who is you? Good luck with disassembling Sonic Delta Origins. The resulting code will easily have incorrect pointers due to how I handle the mapper.

He benifited from the open disassemblies along with all the Disassembly and Reverse engineering Team that together produced them. Now he's added another good thing: the Memory mapper: but won't help the community. Why?
How is it that they feel that they can all take from SEGA, SonicTeam, etc; but if anyone takes from them: it's code stealing?

If Sonic Rom Hacking simply continued to follow the OpenSource or really Free Software route it was going down years ago: you'd have more whole new 16-bit sonic games. As level designers and artists could more easily work: having access to all the art in the 16-bit canon due to the memory mapper work.

But no: they stopped that and just consider their changes /theirs/: while your changes are /"ours"/.
    >>
    >>12895823
    You a lawyer?
    No.

    I specifically mentioned that:
    1) These projects told the programmer that "only the code matters" and "freedom of speech"
That was the promise they gave to the programmer.
    2) The programmer then did what the projects wanted: produced code
    For decades.
That is performance by the programmer.
And a promise for performance. A contract.

Then the projects reneged on their initial utterances and banned the programmer from development for protected speech the programmer made on some other platform (and some years before the banning time).
That is breach of contract or fraud in the inducement.

The programmer then killed himself after entering a downwards spiral right after. (the bannings were ment to punish him for his speech: and deny him effective access to what was till then his life's work: ever since he was a kid in highschool and then college and on and on)
    Wrongful death civil lawsuit.

You can say all you want about "THEY CAN DO WHATEVER THEY WANT, RIGHTS ONLY COUNTER THE GOVERNMENT".
Does not mean a case can't be brought.
Does not mean you are right.
Does not mean that the actions and breach by the Project wasn't a but-for cause of the programmers death.
(though they'll argue supervening intervening acts block the legal chain of causation)

Does not mean Mircea Kitsune wasn't libeled, put in a false light,
    (both Torts)
and cast away by the Project that induced him to work for them for multiple decades:
giving him nothing other than the promise of honour, respect, "only the code matters", and freedom of speech.

Note: there have been _criminal_ cases in the states more recently where someone talked someone into suicide: they did it: and the talker was found criminally liable.
Civil cases need only a preponderance of the evidence.

    Again: Are you a lawyer?

The disassemblies originate from SonicTeam object code; as do the art assets; as does everything. Thus it is hypocritical to complain about "code stealing" when you stole 99.99 percent of everything from SEGA of America and SEGA of Japan.

Esrael puts his name above that of Sonic Team on the opening credits screen, and adds his own copyright (C) mark (C) Neto on the title screen.

Why do hackers think that just because they disassembled machine code back into ASM that they _OWN_ it all?

He also laughed and threw down the gauntlet saying no one could accomplish disassembling HIS work. Is this true?
His Liutenant threatened other users who wanted to saying they "better not dare" "won't allow it".
Esrael also said that the base material for the project is from publically accessable things. So sounds like he did choose to use the open disassemblies as a base.

Can it be disassembled so the Software can (again) be free as Richard Matthew Stallman desired in the 1970s and 1980s?
Imagine being able to apply the Sonic-Random-Green-Hill-Zone code to all the level sets.
    Imagine.

Could be done if the whole she-bang was disassembled.
    https://github.com/sonfan76/PossiblyDisassembleSonDeltaOrigins40Mb/tree/main
    https://github.com/sonfan76/PossiblyDisassembleSonDeltaOrigins40Mb/blob/main/memmaapper2.txt

Also it's very annoying to have to, right after Emerald Hill Zone in Sonic2 have to fight through two crap levels and two hard bosses to get to the chemical plant.
The robotnik-winter level (which is from Triple Trouble) should be after Son2 hidden palace zone, and before the Son2 desert level he has.
Also one could edit the Level-Up ASM and remove the 99 lives cap to give something to do after winning: it's probably a byte long atleast so could
hold 255 lives before overflow. Atleast 127.
    It's like "hey I'm on a beach"
"now im on the top of a fking mountain all suddenly"

A DAGarden edition could be made too with all his new levels as a complete run through
    >>
    >>12896573
First he said he won't give the code out to prevent code stealing.
Then his liutenant said anyone better "dare not" "even try" to disassemble it
Then he said that it's impossible to disassemble his version (even though Sonic Team and SSFII team made all the actual code and art assets) due to the 512kb chunk mem-mapper: as all the pointers will be incorrectly resolved.

Now he says he doesn't give out the ASM source, but MAY have if someone had asked nicely:
but will not now because he want's to see it cracked.

So he went from: No I will never give out the source
To: No one better not even DARE disassemble this (again)
To: It is impossible, go ahead and try
To: well I WOULD have maybe released the source if someone asked nicely maybe
To: I won't because I want to see what the others do, the base it was made from is public
(which I guess means he did use the community disassemblies).

We could all do so much if this state-of-the art work was Free'd.
No one wants to use the old single-game disassemblies anymore: everything that could be done with them has: except for extending the random level generator; but that would benifit much from having all the art assets in one Rom so you could do all the levels eventually.

Wouldn't it be better to get this done instead of everyone claiming that SEGA's code which they edited (creating a derivative work still controlled (ie owned essentially) by the original copyright holder) is theirs and no one better code steal: to instead again emerge from all these seperate dark caves and work together: in the Free Software tradition: just as some did years ago for the 3 public disassemblies?

None of this code/art is theirs:
So the only non-hypocritical logical ethical system that allows all this would be the Free Software ethos (which rejects proprietary software explicitly and demands (originally) ALL software be FREED (1970s 1980s RMS))
Instead the Sonic Hacking Scene follows "your property is OURS" "my property is MINE"

Wow, cool down there, Mr. Ace Attorney.

If patches, from simple (graphic and palette changes) to complex ones (music and level edits, new code), do infringe the law, how come companies like Nintendo and Capcom never bothered in all these years to take down countless SMB and Mega Man hacks shared as IPS patches?

Simple. Because without ROMs, you can't do shit with the patches. Patches simply contain a list of which addresses need to be patched and what bytes need to be written in said addresses.
As an example: If you apply a patch to an empty file, and then try to run it in an emulator, you'll see that the file doesn't run, because a LOT of important data from the original ROM is not included in the patch.

Also, people release these hacks for free online (again, as patches). And if you see people selling catridges of hacks, 95% of the time this is done without the consent of the original hack creators.

Because the defendants involved are Judgement Proof:
They hold no assets. The cost to sue them in Federal Court under a Federal Question (Copyright) would be 250k or more and the recovery would be nothing.

Annotations are Derivative works. They are controllable by the copyright holder. You claim otherwise but you are simply wrong.
If you want an example of an COMPLETELY SEPERATE program: that was never even produced by _EDITING_ the original work: even being considered a derivative work: read the Real Player case.
You assert that when a person edits a Work: and then writes down what he edited; and distributes the edits: that he is not creating a derivative work. You are wrong.
    >>17 U.S. Code § 101

    >Simple. Because without ROMs, you can't do shit with the patches. Patches simply contain a list of which addresses need to be patched and what bytes need to be written in said addresses.
Wrong. It is because the recovery would be less than the cost to sue in civil court.

    >Also, people release these hacks for free online (again, as patches). And if you see people selling catridges of hacks, 95% of the time this is done without the consent of the original hack creators.
Doing it for free only removes the threat of criminal copyright infringement prosecution.

I've been programming since 2001, and doing 3d work since 1997.

YOU claim that because "ITS A SEPERATE FILE" that it is not an annotation and thus not a derivative work. You are wrong. The classic example in Copyright 101 in law school is:
There is a picture of mickey mouse.
Someone puts a transparency over it: and draws eyebrows and other things on the transparency.
He then takes the transparency off:
    Rolls it up:
Then makes 70000 copies of that transparency: and sells or distributes it.

    Is he committing copyright infringement?
You say NO. ("it's just a patch file").
Copyright 101 in law school says YES it is infringing: it is an unauthorized , non-seperable, derivative work : an annotation.
It is non-seperable because it was built based on and relies on the original work to have meaning.

Now where do you want to settle this?

    > Fuck em.
Can AI get around the memory mapper issue?
Up to 32mbits everything is flat memory; however beyond that this occurs.
32mbits-512kbit : this section needs to be seperate and sorta self contained:
as the last 512kbit of the memory will be swapped out when needed:
that is code in the first 31 (and 1/2) mbit cannot rely on the data in the
last 512 always being there, nor can other memory mapped section.

After that, each 512kbit area has to sorta be seperate: it's what's swapped into
that last 512kbit (or really mapped to it) area so you can have more stuff. (art and levels)

What you do is you write to a certain register and it swaps out those chunks.
    Then you use it.
Like first memory address 2200...02 is pointing at some art assets from let's say hydrocity zone.
Then you eventually want to load carnival night, but the last art assets and level and chunk data
in that 512kb memory chunk is marble garden stuff.
So you write to the certain register , and it swaps in the next 512kb chunk
now memory address 2200...02 points to carnival night data, and you can use it.

When you want to jump back to the hydrocity or marble garden stuff:
    you have to write to the special register;
and then now 2200...02 is pointing again at hydrocity etc.

Disassemblers can't handle this according to Neto.
I wonder why they can't just not-resolve memory pointers?
Then atleast the disassembly would work
(until you moved something even one single byte or word)

Or why can't they do the first 32mbit
    and then the other 512kb chunks seperately;
and know the special register swap commands?

When you steal 99.99 percent from SonicTeam: you have no moral right to complain about other's stealing your 5 ASM operations.
Nor your 5000 ASM operations either.
    Software wants to be free.
Sonic Hacking to you is about masturbating your ego.

Sonic Hacking to actual Programmers is about getting more 16 bit Sonic games:
and making things easier or possible for good level designers and artists is a reasonable desire.

Richard Matthew Stallman was and is correct:
And that can be seen in all the fun hacks that came out when Sonic Hacking was in it's Open Source phase:
All new hacks with all new completely different level designs came out those years.

Now: because you people have went back to proprietary development:
you whine that there are not many hacks.
It's because you pulled the ladder up.
Because you want to feel elite.

Your hacks should be forcibly openend and every operand stolen from you with malicious intent.
As that is what you did with the things you have effectivly converted into your property: all of the 16 bit sonics.
Then new games such as completely random sonic lvl generation across all levels could be worked on.
(after, again, stealing the s1v1_r011.bin ASM code via disassembly)

Then when these new versions are created: their ASM source should be published as zip files and on github etc.
And you be informed to your face, in person: that your code was stolen: and let's see what you'll do about it.
    Etc.

    Free the Software.
Even if the heavens may fall.

    What is your point?
I'm talking of specific things regarding Sonic ROM hacking: you don't like it: thus you feel I should be banned and deleted.

    What are you getting at.
    >>12897876
Not AI. Just because you don't like what I'm saying doesn't mean I'm AI.
When did you people get like this?

I remeber, years ago, when we all could have conversations.
Now whoever you are you beg for censorship every time you see an opinion you do not like. Are you a younger generation?

    The facts are:
    1) You rom hackers did not make Sonic.
    2) You whine about code stealing
    3) You stole all of Sonic code and Assets.
    This is hypocritical.
    4) The proper response is to simply do what SonLVL and the disassemblers did: operate under the Free Software ethos of Richard Stallman:

    Then you won't be hypocrates.
You will be Freeing the Software: just as has been done abit on github with the disassemblies and the level making tools.

I really do not fucking get why you people just fucking DEMAND bannings and censorship for talking about Rom hacking on /rom/hacking/general. You do this for anything you don't like. Like you have some clique and "approved ideas": and then anyone who isn't in your (new generation) belief system you want gone:
It's like you can't figure out what to say; or are mad that alot of english words have been thrown your way. So instead of responding to my points you just whine for bannings.

    >HE DIDNT ACCEPT MY DECISIO
    >BAN HIM

Hey: listen here: I was on this website before you were. You do not have the right.

Can anyone help disassemble this stuff?

    >They even cause some really smelly bullshit with video game preservationalists at the UK when Shartmer enacted 1984, which gave SEGA of Yurop the power to get the cops on the guy who rightfully had all those Nintendo DS romdumps available.

So the guy isn't going to take physical revenge against the people who sent the cops to his house and stole all his equipment? Even though they're only a chunnel ride away?
    Is that how europeans operate?
They're just OK with people sicking the govt on them and won't take revenge?
    Just "obeyin the law" forever?
(a law which they, if they are men, have no say in)

France is on fire right now.
    >>
    >>12897987
    Oh.
We have alot of those in Open Source.
    Didn't used to.
They don't do any code tho: just enforce codes of conducts and get the original programmers thrown out of their own projects.

Which is why there is an uptick in interest in m68k assembly and sonic rom hacking: people want to get away from that and go back to the base.

Shame there's no communications possible any more. Everything is fragmented and censored. And Admins want you to lick their ass and obey them in everything. Just recently one of our good programmers killed himself some time after Admins banned him from 2 opensource projects that he worked on for decades: because they didn't like what he said on twitter some years ago.

If that memory mapper work was opensourced; then Triple Trouble 16 bit could possibly be ported over to the S&K engine no matter how inefficent their level data format is. It's really a shame the hacking community has back-slid away from opensource and really Free Software so violently and reactionarially. Why did they do that?
    New generation?

For my pitch isekai set during the Civil War with Resident Evil-style gameplay, a ganguro ojou (manba gyaru) is reborn as Albert Sidney Johnston's adopted daughter, born in 1842 in Florida, a direct descendant of George Washington and his lady pirate lover from Iraq, and named Jubilee; starting off as an army brat, she gains military experience during the Seminole War, the Utah War, and the Reform War by cross-dressing, and her armament includes a Springfield Model 1842 or Texan contract musket (later a Fayetteville rifle), M1861 Enfield, Hawkin rifle, Hall carbine, an old pirate pistol, a Navy Colt revolver, a Starr pistol/carbine, and a Model 1840 heavy saber or Indian war lance. She befriended John Bell Hood and George H. Thomas and served under A.P. Hill and William Rosecrans's command in the 1850s.

The whole drama about the memory mapper is that literally nobody is going to use it.

Sonic Delta needed it for obvious reasons. There really isn't anything out there that warrants it. And most of these hacks get abandoned after a few levels.

Yea, word. Not only are the physics slightly off, but there's a decrease in soul. We've discussed this in-depth on /vr/ before, and to give just one example, All-Stars ruins the warp zone -- in the original, there are blue paths and silver pipes, which gives it an otherworldly feel, while All-Stars uses regular graphics. And that's not a one-off, there are many other issues like that.

That sonic-level editor on the genesis is really cool. They would benifit alot if they maliciously decompiled* Sonic Delta Origins to get access to all 4 of the sonic-genesis game assets all packed together in one. The newer SDO dev releases also have a cool piano roll player that could also be openly stolen from it's creators.

There needs to be a Sonic Hacking AI Contest where hackers savagely steal the code using AI and repurpouse into ever superior and fun Sonic games. Without a shred of remorse and much spit-in-the-face disrespect to the other hackers. Freeing the ASM in the face of those who painstakingly added some features: saying "You thought this was yours: WE ARE STEALING IT FROM YOU"

    A Billgates Vs Homebrew moment.

The random sonic level generator could be stuffed in there too.

    >>Sonic 1 Level Creator - Tech Demo
    >A Sonic 1 hack that lets you create your own GHZ level layout on an actual Genesis / MegaDrive.

That one is quite fun. The SRAM save file seem to be "only" able to go to 65k tho (on tech specs I read 128k). Is this enough to save more than one level? What if they use the kzinksy russkie compression method or whatever it is that is used in S3&K for the assets?

Would be cool if everdrive OS and emulators allowed selecting which SRAM to load, or provided via a new Dataport info on this so the game could put up a menu of ones to load etc.

    >>12894298
None of them are total rewrites.

    >>12894328
Why won't the AI people aggressivly disassemble the "closedsource" hacks (ie: all of them)? Sonic Fangaming on the genesis suffers from the anti-homebrew stances of nearly all the Sonic Retro hackers: they do not want their "codes" to become common currency : but instead exclusive to them

Thus breakthroughs are made (Sonic Random level 9 yrs ago): but never followed up on.
In real software development: there are teams: and the product continues on and on. Many people work on it
In Sonic Hacking, while there were some efforts to Opensource, which the newer hackers all use and rely on; once they make THEIR hack: they closesource the results and jealously: often psycotically guard "their" code: even though they stole everything themselves previously.

This is not sustainable as a development model.
    It is filled with hypocracy.
Sonic Hackers also often hate the character Tails and love only Sonic:
they see themselves as a brash super-hero ; a god almost; some see themselves as God.
Thus Sonic Hackers are not able to connect with the wider Sonic artist community: who love and desire Tails the Fox in great measure: even in a savage animalistic way
    >ShawTrese, Debiant Art (TM) Sonic artist:
    >When I started using the Debian Linux system I felt a lack of something

That's right. What are you going to do about it?

    Sonic ASM should be re-freed.
    Neto's Sonic Delta Origins should be disassembled, perhaps with AI help;
so that both the new Sonic Level Editor and the older Sonic Random (Green hillzone) map generator on genesis (all m68k asm-built): can benifit from all the art assets.
And the music they stuffed in there.

Sonic Hackers are hypocrates to steal all of SEGA's stuff and then claim no one can steal their code and continue it.

Do it yourself. Claude exists, trace logs exist, disassembly tools exist, plenty of documentation on Sega hardware exists. If you can't do that I doubt you'd be able to do much with their ASM even if they giftwrapped it with extensive documentation for you.

I don't think romhackers are under any obligation to share their code, but also aren't owed any protection either. If they can reverse engineer and modify games they own no rights to, they can't cry when somebody does the same to them.

    >Do it yourself.
I've been programming since 2001, started with PERL, C, etc. 3d work since 1997.
I don't get AI. I'm glad people can somehow use it to fully reverse engineer and port things onto the N64. Seems like magic to me.

I have been learning m68k assembly these last few weeks.
First I had a hello world on the genesis,
then changed the text and colours (regarding the reality of Tails (lol, old Sonic 2 reality before they changed that and then lied about it (just as they lied for 30 years about Michael Jacksons involvement in Sonic 3)).
Then added the sprite. Changed that around.
Then added to code to have it move.
Added more pallet colours, applied them.
Then looked up the memory addy for controller 2.
Then manhandled the code to poll both, and allow both controllers to control Sprite 1.
Then made it change the pallet based on which controller is used.

Then read more of the 68000 ASM book for a week.
Then added a second sprite, that is controled by player 2 today.

I decided to do this for Sonic as it's in m68k ASM.
And I know I need to know it backwards and forwards before diving in: so I'll know what I'm reading.
All the code works on real hardware as I put in the correct headers and keep everything even aligned. I test on Fusion first, then dgen, then real.

So: I've been doing allready what you said.
But I'd like others to take a crack at it if they can.
AI is unknown to me. I've always done things myself.

    >people used to be so excited...not any more
They were excited when there was a future:
    0) The disassemblies happened: things were opened up: people started making more and more extensive level hacks and really new sonic games.

    1) you could actually talk on the sonic hacking forums
Not anymore: say anything they don't like and you're banned.

    2) Memory limits: Only Neto has got around the memory limits on the gen, using the SFII mapper. He forbids anyone else from using his work. People want to work with the entire art set.
    >>
    >>12905474
    1) Old entries were like full new games: full new levelsets, or cool features

    2) Awsome things like random level generator was made:
but then the dev just quit and never did anything with it

    3) No collaboration: previously the community came together like a rising tide and did the disassemblies and wanted more sonic 16 bit games:
Now it's exclusivly about being "elite hacker".
The fact that it's all simply disassembled motorola 68000 ASM is hidden

    4) No communication between programmers and hackers: the forums do not allow anyone to sign up: and anyone who says one thing the admins do not like is banned.

    5) Discord: Everything has been moved to Discord: what happens on Sonic Retro discord and other Sonic Hacking discords?:
    1) You talk about m68k ASM: then someone asks "what's that"???
(on the hacking discord mind you)
    You tell them
Then someone asks "what's a memory mapper????"
    You tell them
    "I don't get it"
    You then describe it:
    >It's like you have seperate buckets or pools:
    >One giant pool filled with Tails, and it has piss in it
    >Other smaller (512kb) buckets with other characters: one has clean water (sonic)
    >Another has lava (knuckles)

Then a zoomer announces "I am 13 and you are SEXUALLY HARRASSING ME" "OMG PISS FETIS" "HARRASMENT"

    And the admins ban you.

Which is what usually happens around zoomers:
They do not like what you are talking about (programming) on the chatroom or board that is about that subject (programming): and try to get you banned, arrested, or killed so they don't have to listen to "millenials" and "boomers" type on the internet.

That's why no one bothers anymore
    >Hey let's talk about assembly programming in this assembly programming website
    >NO WE _ZOOMERS_ DO NOT LIKE IT AND YOU NEED TO BE ARRESTED AND WE WILL TRY TO MAKE THAT HAPPEN

Anyway the moral of the story was that the buckets were seperate and you can't mix them: you have to have all your art assets for an extended-level type in that 512k bucket: or the pool.

    >If you can't do that I doubt you'd be able to do much with their ASM
Then how is it I allready have my own genesis rom programming running on the actual genesis?
    If I'm so fucking stupid?
    How did I do that?

How is it that I'm coding ASM allready? A few weeks or so in? How? If I am SO _FUCKING_ STUPID?
    Tell me.
I want you to inform me how, even though I want from no m68k ASM knowledge, to having my own programs running on the genesis (tho primative): that I'm a fucking moron that could never, in years , figure anything out?

I don't have claude or anything like that.
That's something you younger generation know about. You have money and time to learn that.
I'm just learning the programming language this machine runs on.

    I'm not saying the ASM is any good;
    but it's there
    <---------------------------
    See.

I'm not this smith, retard; fuck off.

    >>12905402
So what you're saying is that I'm so _FUCKING_ ____FUCKING____ Stupid: that if I had the Neto ASM: I couldn't find in the code where it increments the data in the Sonic Lives counter (ASomethingOrOther)+ by one; but if the counter is at 99 it jumps somewhere else:
    Which would be
    cmp #99,(A1)
    beq SkipLivesIncrement
    adda #1,(A1)
    SkipLivesIncrement:
    rts

I'm just too fucking _STUPID_ to EVER FUCKING FIND THAT
(and change it to something sensible like 255 assuming it's using an unsigned byte; or more if not; or 127 if only a signed byte)
(and then the lives display in the save state area, and hud (which does have room for another digit))

I'm too old to know about Claude and AI programming. I just do the old "yourself" programming. However google AI claims it can be done. Someone totally ported Portal, Halflife, and Halo to the N64 using claude.
I wonder if it could disassemble Neto's impossible closed-source proprietary-only anti-free-software "you'd better NOT DARE" 40 mb SFII memory mapped hack?

Imagine combining that with the sonic 1 random level generator (for the past 9 years: greenhill zone only) with that? One would have to map out all the chunks that each levelset should use; but it could be done and might be fun.
    Infinite Sonic1/2/3&K :D

And now there is that on-genesis sonic1 level designer hack too. More opporutunities to use all the art assets. That one uses Sram to save the level you make.

Huh, hey, Claude might stop being useful you know.

but with all the sonic art from all the genesis games. IE: all the chunk-sets.
Which are only available through Neto's 40mb hack.

Which is why all the ASM code for both these projects should be aquired and then, each dev contacted: and told to their face their code is being stolen now, and made Free Software (in the original radical 1970s and 1980s version):

And then Sonic can continue in glory.
    Forever.

Ok that's thousands of demos and such. Is there not an abridged list of full games? The cream de la cream, if you will.

    >FULL GAMES in the SONIC HACKING Contest.
    You Jest?

If the Admins don't like you you get banned for life; no matter how great your hack or full sonic game is. If they do not like your politics or your beliefs, or what you said on another website : you get banned.

That's why no one does any of this shit anymore:
Everything is gate kept and the ADMINS are _MORE IMPORTANT_ than the actual programmers.

One of the good programmers (Mircea Kitsune) for Darkplaces /Nexuiz/ Xonotic recently committed suicide after going on a downward spiral after Darkplaces and Xonotic banned him for "being a pedo" for things he wrote on twitter 3 years prior.

He worked for them for decades.
They used to say "only code matters" and "freedom of speech". But if you like ancient religions that give more rights to men; or like those rights that were given back then (which everyone denies now): BANNNEEDDD.

    They kept the code ofcourse.

Note: the Darkplaces (quake) guys who banned him had chopped their own dick off to better fit with the "real" New Testament (which tells christians to castrate themselves in mt 19 in the greek language): and was standing in judgement (without a dick) over M.Kitsune for liking girls.

It's like: Hey thanks for the free labour: obey us.
Same in the Sonic Hacking Contest.
Worship the Admins or you're out.

The point is they can stop anyone from knowing about your hack, or your code by breaking your communication line to other hackers. They know it and they leverage it to enforce their values and beliefs and to effectivly remove your ability to speak to others.
    >>
    >>12906535
You keep using Richard Stallman's name like a buzzword while lying about what he actually stands for.
Stallman fought for users being able to control the software they run on their own hardware. "Free as in free speech, not as in free beer" in his very clear words.
Demanding romhackers to open-source their code so you can swipe their work has nothing to do with that freedom, you're just a leech wanting free assets.
