>>750332076AI is piracy, it takes the art of thousands of artists and jumbles it into a frankenstein's monster of artwork, "Oh buts thats called a collab!" you might say, no the fuck it isn't, AI is the reason 100,000 jobs are lost everyday, it evaporates several quadrillion gallons of water every week and is slowly destroying the earth for code that won't run optimally. It also enables mass survelliance in various areas of the UK, which is very horrible because it ruins free thinking and turns the country into north korea by making it illegal to free think, and that makes people very sad because they can't express themselves. In short, AI is nothing but a slop machine that creates stolen content and detroys the world for billions of people.I hope you are all enlightented after listening to me.

>>750332221Getting my feet wet with this stuff. Randomly chose the N64 game "Space Station Sillicon Valley" to try to mod and learn about.I'll share the initial prompt I started with:"Hey, I dumped my own copy of Space Station Silicon Valley, the N64 game. I'd like to start modding the game (for example, replacing the animal models with pokemon models or something along those lines (open to ideas)).Is this viable and how would I do this?(only execute stuffs if and when I give you the go-ahead, but feel free to ask me questions if needed)"---It's not a shrimple model-swap, because the game doesn't store pre-rendered models. It stores vertices which are then put together on the fly.most recent task is: find all animals in the game with the Europe label, and figure out how they are put together and where those files are>Bear: it has two fur colors, AD6B52 and B03F00, across 13 words.>Dog: cream FFFF80 is the main fur color.>Fox: the fur is red-orange FF2000.>Rat: the body is dark 242424.>Sheep: the wool is white FFFFFF, in two 86-triangle shells.any interest in seeing pics of those modded animals? Probably going to put this project down after that and spend time thinking deliberately of a more interesting game mod to mess with that other people would actually play. This was just proof of conceptfyi. I wanted Claude to do this all with no outside resources (it kept begging me for a save state, or to clone a github repo and hand it over). I relented and gave it the animals.c file from the community decompilation github project, cause if not it was going to run through my entire usage; I say this to point out that this did require building on top of the efforts of other people's open-source work(bottom pic is original, top is modded)

>>750333194thanks for the info, that is very enlightening.Suppose I'll move on to something not on the N64 after this.another random idea that popped into my head: adding content to the game Punch Club (2016). Loved that game, even if the mechanics don't go that deep. Maybe add weapons or NG+. errmm looks like the publishers are active as a puiblicly traded company, so idk if that's asking for trouble.another random idea: a suite of tools to help with N64 modding where you give it a game ROM and maybe a save state, and it spits out all the potential matches to pieces belonging to character models and environmental models, with its own renderer that lets you visually check what it found (i.e. render this thing through some python/javascript viewer to see if it makes sense). not going to do that or know if it makes sense, but it's an ideaNeed an inspired idea worth putting effort into before I make my next movehow's it going for the rest of you's?

here's a current summary of the thread, I fed it through chatGPT:The thread is about AI-assisted video game modding, but much of the discussion consists of arguments, memes, and trolling about generative AI. The main substantive contributor is experimenting with modding Space Station Silicon Valley (N64) using Claude, modifying animal models and colors with help from an existing decompilation project. They also discuss the challenges of N64 modding and potential future projects, including Punch Club modifications and an AI-powered ROM analysis tool. So far, the thread has featured only one detailed modding project, with most other replies focusing on the broader AI debate.

Stage 1 of adding Style Switching to God Hand is done, now comes to hard part of actually editing the UI and making it feel native to the game.Since style names don't really matter, they're going to be>Style S>Style E>Style X>Style Yfor Gene. >>750332647...why does it have a furaffinity filename?
I proompted a NG3RE mod to replace Momiji's character model with her model from DOA5LR, where she looks much nicer. This was mostly possible before since I knew how to locate and extract character/costume data from both games, and they are in somewhat similar formats, but with Claude sama I managed to make a few things possible that weren't before, such as full physics for her hair, clothing and breasts. She also retains her face animations and her eyes still move, which I had no idea how to do before with model replacement mods. One funny thing that happened during the process: I got Claude to start working on this by just giving it the replacement model/texture files and not saying what they are or where they are from, and there are no references to DOA5 in the name/details of the files, which I made sure of so it won't complain about me taking data from a copyrighted game and stuff. But several steps and about an hour into the troubleshooting process, Claude started referring to the replacement model/textures as "Momiji's Dead or Alive 5 model", so it figured out where they were from, but at that point it was fully on board with finishing the mod. This was without any of the jailbreaking trickery or the powershell version.

>>750347802>You'd probably have to let it rip assets from a game,Maybe I really do have to go that route. Even when I give it references, it still can’t quite get it right. There are paid AI services that turn a photo into a 3D model, but even those spit out something closer to scan data than a usable mesh (instead of being built in separate parts like a normal model, everything’s just fused together like a lump of clay), so it’s not really what I’m looking for. Swapping mid-combo gives you the corresponding move at the sequence position you swapped from the style you swapped into.Right now, I'm refining the UI for saving styles in the tech. screen. Then I'll figure out what's best to display your active style during gameplay and what sound cue to use when switching.

Genuinely curious. I know a lot of this is "put Game A in Game B" but how is it at creating new animations and assets? The possibility of actual game expansions instead of just texture/model swaps has me very interested.
>>750351424>but how is it at creating new animations and assets? Not very good. You'll get more use if you know how to animate and model and then have ai do the coding and implementing. If you try to have it do animations and new assets, you'll have to do a ton of tard wrangling to the point where you almost want to give up. It can kinda happen but it's not all that great right now.
>>750351424Not great. I know one anon was doing some shit for some battlefield-like game and he had to spam claude with a lot of reference videos for animation reference. if you don't give it much to work off of it's not gonna turn out well. its 3d modeling ability is also a little rough.
>>750351424It's fairly mediocre at blender, and struggles with 3D posing and animating. But, it is the sort of thing where you can tell it could be really good at it next year if Anthropic or (more likely) OpenAI locked in and decided to make it very capable at it.
>>750351424It is not good at doing that. It is good at implementing, not creating. If you can create, you can tell it to implement what you created. Therefore the ones who have the most potential use for this technology are artists/modelers/etc.
>>750350039>Bingo. The game was tripping me up, and I figure just about 100% of people would prefer this, so I'm making it standard and hinging the freed up Triangle to this function instead.Fugg, I actually prefer Triangle as cancel, no worries, I'll just swap it myself once recomp is ready for public.

>>750352749Interesting you post that game. I also saw it on my store page and assumed it was AI gooner slop.Actually decided to go to the store page and according to their disclosure they only used AI for the concept art and then real humans drew assets based on it.Assuming they aren't straight lying. That means it looks like AI art because it's humans being inspired by the style of art AI produces. A bizarre Ouroboros, that I can't imagine ending well.
>>750351424I've been making something that's 100% Claude assets, and it's rough, but you can brute force it into refining things if you're very descriptive about what you want and provide some visual references. For a game expansion, it may have an easier time since it already knows what that game looks like, but it's still probably not gonna nail it right away.
>>750352749That developer has been spamming his shovelware onto steam since early 2026. He kicks one of these monstrosities out the door every month even. Since you've seen their games before on your feed, it's easy to say that they're AI, because they are and you identified it in the past, not necessarily because it looks a certain way.I otherwise agree with you, there's very convincing AI art out there but there's a lot of tricks to it, and most people are content to dump their 10-page gallery of the most basic bitch checkpoint onto exhentai. They don't have any restraint, they adopt a quantity over quality approach, gen a thousand picture of the same boring trite at slightly different camera angles, then they hide behind the >it's just something I made for fun and for myselfexcuse. >>750354347AI code is not as damaging as AI assets. As much as insane rainbow people on twitter try to pretend otherwise, the thing that pisses people off about AI is when it's bad quality. >>750354514Partly. I was support on that; all the item/trinket graphics for that were me, but it was aggravating to work on given that it was incredibly constrained/compromised by Rebirth engine limitations (costumes and beams particularly) and there was a lot of frustration/headache caused because of it. I also am a little pained by my contributions to that mod because I did it in raster art rather than vector (I didn't have a good work flow for it).I then abandoned that mod to work on a resprite mod to channel Flash's essence in pixel art form, but now that vibecoding is all the rage and I can literally just make my own Isaac with blackjack and hookers or dealing with Nicalis' shitty API, I figure that's the new best avenue to take.Thankfully I just vibecoded Krita to have an Adobe Flash-style brush, and this port will let me have a perfect workflow to help make my decade-long dream a reality. My concerns from Flash to Rebirth mainly stemmed from a lot of missed aesthetic touches from the original and a certain style/charm that isn't really as present in the remake. There's a ton of things from the original that are just omitted that I could rant on about.I believe Rebirth is generally the better game to play. I want its changes, AND I want the nice vector art from Flash. Or, simultaneously, I want a Rebirth that is not ass to edit and tinker with. Also in doing this port I have found things with the original that are pretty undocumented and did not make the transition to Rebirth. Having 3+3 severely limits the fun when you're playing anything that's not a shield user. >>750356461Yes — this is a very plausible modding project, and the complaint makes sense mechanically. ...Could someone vibecode it?Absolutely worth attempting. I'd start by studying the existing dinput8.dll hooks implementation and its skill-set handling, rather than writing a mod from scratch. The key technical question is whether the game stores the equipped skills in a fixed three-slot structure for each weapon group, or whether the limitation is primarily imposed by the UI and input-dispatch logic. That distinction determines whether this is a relatively small patch or a more involved reverse-engineering project.A sensible prototype would be:1. Inspect the existing hooks and identify where weapon skills are stored, assigned, and activated.2. Test whether secondary inputs can activate additional skills belonging to the same weapon.3. If that works, expose those assignments through a configuration file or a small custom menu.4. Only then attempt to expand the native skill-selection interface to six slots per group. One important caveat: six skills on each group is not necessarily twelve simultaneously usable skills. The game could impose additional restrictions, and controller inputs may need a redesigned mapping. My recommendation: prototype the shared-weapon-skills approach first. It gets closest to your underlying goal—more meaningful combat choices without forcing you to swap loadouts mid-fight—and gives you a smaller problem to solve before attempting a full UI modification."give to clod, tard wrangle and test rigorously, enjoy mod

If one was to make a version of Dark Souls 3 as a retro game, would they choose NES or SNES? I'm inclined towards NES since the game's progression path is linear with branching paths just like Castlevania 3, but the RPG elements are more SNES

>>750334813I don't see the issue. If it's good and people are willing to pay your prices, I don't see why you should be bringing your prices down. It's also a good way to just price out the cheap ass weirdos.
>>750357406depends on if you literally mean for the console, or just in the style ofmaking an nes game is like a dev flex endeavor not a "i want to make a good game" endeavor, you'll find yourself very heavily limited by what you can do with it in terms of colors, sprite counts, bosses will basically have to be retarded, etc.if you just mean in the style of then i have no take

>>750356135One minute is a lot. 1-3 seconds is easy peezy for me to do, especially if it's a mostly static action. Depends a lot on the artstyle. You can cut some corners with the anime artstyle hopefully, but one minute is still quite a lot.
>>750357016Yes! This was exactly my thought too. I would have to be a veteran at the game who knows every single item in the game to know what type of themeing to replace it with so that I keep things consistent but still fun and on point. And I'm just not there and I'm just not willing to do that. But I hope someone else who's put hundreds of hours into it and still takes problem with the art style is willing to do that.

>>750358258An overabundance of video games and slop will reduce their meaning, and the industry won't be able to keep up. Already entire consoles and new games are getting dumped online with AI that is so far quite primitive in comparison to what it'll be able to do years down the line. People are not considering the possibility of what happens when GTA 6 fails to make a profit after it's widely pirated and ripped apart by AI for example, or if GTA 7 will even exist because we'll be able to just prompt it ourselves in a couple years. All power will be held by these AI companies that have monopolized everything else -- say goodbye to Nintendo, Rockstar, Sony, Microsoft etc if there's no regulation against this

>>750358484I like AI as much as the next guy (who also likes AI). That being said, you will not be able to prompt GTA VII, not in a year, and not in ten years either.Predictive models need data. It took over 100 million images to train midjourney. Image generators are just barely okay now. There's a small fraction of that number of videos on the internet. There's an even smaller fraction of videogames that exist. Not all data is good data either, and as companies get increasingly more wary of a competitor's model being trained on their scraped data, it becomes harder and harder to do things. Just look at danbooru, you can no longer use any kind of batch downloader on the website.I can't predict the future, but you're vastly underestimating the challenge of the task. It's such a naive, innocent thought, to think you can create anything more involved than flappy bird with our existing models. If we're talking about the current paradigm, there's just not enough data to make an average, 10-20 hour experience from a couple of prompts. It's impossible, an outlandish notion.

I wasn't even drawing shit and for several seconds of the video I spent DAYS of editing shit. I can imagine drawing that would take MUCH more time. 1 minute is A LOT even for a 20 fps video. Even for a choppy 15fps one. Fluid animations take exponentially more timeDon't forget, hand drawn cartoons take YEARS to make by dozens of full time artists in big studios
>>750359438This is very naive and you don't really understand the power of the technology that they're developing which went from CleverBot to solving historic math problems in the span of 4 years. AI developers are thinking of making the Machine God that knows everything about the world, about yourself. Let me remind you that it took thirteen years for Rockstar to make a new entry in this series. But if you spin up enough clod instances, you can make it work? >>750360174Yes, it will. AI develops exponentially every year. After 4 years we're able to dump any console and video game online -- tell me how the video game industry survives another 4 years of this? And this is not even counting the advances in actually generating video games, which so far we can only do as simple games but eventually will be much better. You have to look at this shit long-term and what it means for the world and your life, because the way things are going this is the cyberpunk timeline where megacorps control everything. No need for Hollywood, video game industries, private militaries, etc when AI can do all that in the future. Anthropic, Tesla, NVIDIA etc will become our timeline's Militech, Weyland-Yutani at this rate and there will be much chaos because of it.

The game I'm thinking of trying it with does have camera movement but nothing like free-cam or a photo mode, so I wonder if it would be possible to instruct it to assign specific controls to the free cam mode and such.
>>750360562They're going to move into cloud subscription services. Sony already plans for it by getting rid of physical games. You will literally own nothing in the future until the industry just outright collapses and we stop getting new games made by talented people at all and just make them ourselves with prompts and AI that we pay for (communism for the many, feudal lordship for the AI megacorps)

>>750361332Think someone did it for a DoA Volleyball game.Hilariously, the first attempt did not result in free cam controls. It created a character controller instead. Instead of moving the camera around in 3D space, it moved and rotated the character around. I think the anon fixed it though.
>>750361332if it's a console game, learn how to ramdump in your emu, if it's a pc game, ask clod to write you a ramdumperdump ram, move camera, dump ram, ask clod to find the code that wrote itthen ask clod to write you code that natively hooks in to the camera controls and lets you move them with whatever you wantfreecams are fairly trivial hacks, i'd wager anyone could learn how to actually make one by hand in like an hour
>>750359948Math problems are literal math problems. Number crunching. That's exactly what AI is good at.Making games is a multi-discipline effort. AI might be able to make shit games but to make good games that will sell it will take human input to do it. AI might become a great tool for developers to make games faster or make them larger but it won't make game developers irrelevant.
>>750361630ramdump might be slower than getting the AI to do it for youIt's basically just a faster, more intelligent than you ram searcher in most cases for loaded games
>>750361396I'm coming up with a prompt to try it for Ninja Gaiden 3 Razor's Edge. The game has good camera controls in combat but outside of combat they are really annoying and restricted, you basically can only have the camera at the default height which is slightly above the character's head level, or really far down looking up, and it won't stay anywhere in between. Sucks for trying to take screenshots or look at modded models and such that I'm prompting.
>>750361668I hope that you're right but it still won't stop the megacorps from stealing the games immediately when they release thus making them unprofitable. Anything made with AI is bugged to hell and back right?
>>750361782>but it still won't stop the megacorps from stealing the games immediately when they release thus making them unprofitableThere are already individuals that do this and in the future there might be companies doing it on larger games but there's still a limited amount of game devs. It will only happen if it makes money. Maybe it will make enough money for some turdworlders but I don't think it will be as large scale and common as you think. It's more that small games get targeted by sloppers because AI is more likely to be able to clone small games and often with small games that hit it big the first few clones do alright. In my opinion the evils of AI will be focused elsewhere. A big one is the environmental damage. The forests they cut down to make space for data centers. The electricity those centers burn to keep running. The water they will spoil in cooling their operation. People living near these centers suffer as a result. There's already a bunch of examples in the US and I'm sure it will happen elsewhere as well if it is not already happening. There's also the sloppification of internet. Search engines are getting ruined and even 4chan has its share of bots spamming the same garbage threads every day.

>Claude tells me he CAN'T port over a character from the first game to the second>Sole reason being that the models and animations use older formats (despite both game having the same animations and models in some areas)So do I just give up?
(Slop)ral Knights recomp guy here, ran out of my weekly reset, so progress is on hold for now, got most things implemented far as I can tell, including beta and current preview build content, but still plenty of bugs, did a reformat to clean the codebass up which has helped and also reintroduced some bugs, it's slow going. All the main systems are in and missions *work* though NPC movements and similar still need work, I think it hasn't quite figured out level geometry or waypoints, and it's had consistent problems trying to figure out the hotbar. So, progress on hold until friday, good lord there's so much bugfixing to do. I also tried a full run of the tutorial, which worked, up until the gremlin boss, at which point his boss door refused to open and his boss behavior was broken, I had it upgrade the packet sniffer, so I'll probably need to do a few runs in the real game for it to figure shit out, but the basics are all in there, even the PVP shit like the bomberman minigame and such. I'm gonna say it needs another week, maybe two before it's full parity (which I will dump somewhere for people who at least want solo play), and then maybe another one or two weeks for me to refine it for modability, dedicated servers, coop, etc, along with a run at a solo/coop config to dial down the MMO grind.

You can also jus tell it to look for useful tools in order to do it and have it figure out how to convert it all over and it *will* eventually figure it out.

>>750363750I could definitely do something like that, the map created here was a bare basic. I literally just asked Claude to put a map on the right side and this is what it came up with, I can adjust it significantly. I was thinking of having it be like Metal Gear 2(msx), showing enemy positions and such. But I don't know, might make the game too easy. I do have difficulty levels already programmed in.
Update:>Characters refer to him as Ganondorf no matter the save file name>Sprint button on A, A now says Run instead of Attack>Ganondorf can now kick down doors, leans down to bypass clipping when he enters a room with a door (Mr. X style)>Z-targeting is bound to R3 by default on controllers, bypasses SoH controller scheme and settings>Navi got turned into Poe with new dialogue fitting for a minion of the King of Evil for every monster in the game>Kicks chests open like in Hyrule Warriors>Cutscene overhaul, at the drawbridge scene we see through the eyes of Ganondorf and Link is merely a spectator on the sidelines, added new dialogue.

Not an attack, but when do you expect these threads to be considered a general and kicked to vg?
>>750364601I'm using my claude sub routed to vs code not for privacy reasons but because I just like the extensions better, what I do doesn't show up in the actual claude app or site but still uses up usage, you could probably just ask him if he has some quota to spare for you

Theoretically, if you had access to abandoned projects, you could actually finish them using Claude?
>>750365046yeah
is it possible to make stuff using free models or do I have to give the judeo-american techfags $200 a month?

>>750365046YepMake sure you have multiple backupsDon't let any agent start messing with your only copyAnd no using github that is connected to your agent doesn't count as a backup either
>>750365137Codex/claude do have some use on free tierYou'll have to use lower end models to get more than like 10 minutes of useBasically try it out. Then get the 20 dollar clod plan
>>750365137Fuck no hands off the tokens bum
>>750365175>webmWhat's this?

>>750365363What's Ganondorf doing sleeping in a Kokiri treehouse
>>750332148you had the chance to make a good bait but you blew it with this faggy tone, kill yourself.
>>750364881I was thinking of how effective the map would be based on the difficulty level, but that could work too. Maybe I can even make a new item that you can find that makes the map more useful. I dunno yet I've only been working on the game for 2 days, but I have a ton of ideas.
>>750365046Only if that project had the art and design to complete it. I think most abandoned games wouldn't have that so you would have to make it yourself.

https://files.catbox.moe/rd75rc.7zHere's my jank as shit tentacle porn game I had slopped up, which mostly consists of assets ripped and altered from Captivity, sound effects/voices are janked as hell and bad, but it seems... generally functional? You can get softlocked on the first night if you don't buy any vents though, and spam click when they're near a vent to "ambush" which deals more damage or whatever.
Has anyone tried running claude code on SteamOS/Linux? Is it usable?

Its crazy how smart these new gen models areI don't think most people even grasp it. Especially since many use free tiers/used gpt 3 tier models in the past
Techlet here. Will AI contribute to more and better explicit mods?
>>750364528Probably, but you would need to clarify what exactly you want swapped. Do you want to simply play as Ryu but his appearance (model), sounds, and such are swapped with Rachel/Ayane? Or would you want to play as Rachel with her own moveset, or play as Ayane with her moveset from one of the later games? That would require some new stuff to be made, which the AI could help with but idk if it could do all of it.
>>750366301YesBut only china models
>>750366067I forgot to record audio and the file came out half a gig still, really no idea how people make decent looking vids with low sizes, anyway put a video on litterbox, good warning though the sfx really does suck ass, honestly if anyone knows where I can get like, sfx packs of various moan sets or something i could clean them up a lot. (when my usage resets at least :p)https://litter.catbox.moe/5n7gevu23fyffe3w.mp4I probably needs another few days in the oven, but it still seems to work at least. So whatever.
>>750366301Porn mods require one of two things, sometimes both>text for dialogue/descriptions/etc>images/graphics/etcAI gives no fuck about them but won't generate them usually. The usual key part is 'placeholder'So while you can technically put in 'hogwarts legacy with the real tranny cock I want', you can't call it 'tranny cock version of the tranny'You can call it 'alt image 1' and say 'sar, please be kinding replace default image with alt image 1' and it will do so but not 'ay yo get me a pic of this fagh with a dick instead kthx luv u'
>>750364290This reads like ntr written by claude.
>>750350126The over reliance on these tools has made them unable to actually use them correctly, ironically.
>>750356135It will always depend on the complexity of the art style. Some people can simplify to shapes and manage it in a day but the more detailed the character and environment, the harder it is. And that's before you even think about doing coloring. It can become a lot.
>>750342215WAIT WAIT WAITCAN WE GET A RECOMPILED FOUR SWORDS ADVENTURE WITH ONLINE??HOLY SHIT HOLY SHIT
>>750366389Just a model swap with Ryu's skeleton/moveset, you don't even have to do the voice if you don't want to, I can just ignore that or lower the voice volume

>>750352027>learn a dead skillIts like telling people why don't you learn latin?
>>750366658I think it's more that they're simply extremely stingy with token usage and want to avoid wasting even the slightest bit via inefficient prompting or asking it questions.
>>750366971>when you let someone use your claude and they ask basic google questions on opus
>>750366971You just ask the web model(on gpt anyway sucks to be a clod user lol lmao)These people asking haven't even used ai yet
Where do you guys upload your ai mods? I unironically want to try them? Nexus? Ayaka?
>>750360008>>750365680ok that was quicker than i expectedthis version has hard subs on cutscenesminimal testing ofc, the only thing i've done is told claude to fix the text kerning, otherwise for later game idk i don't know shit about this game, this one's bigger because the subbed cutscenes are in ithttps://gofile.io/d/F1gBi7gu
>>750367143I don't upload them. Too much hassle and people whining and wanting free fixes/changes
>>750367189That's a bummer but I understand.
>>750367189Honestly I see it as free bug reporting so I don't have to check all the edge case shit myself or burn tokens on finding them, which lets me fix stuff for my own purposes easier :v

>>750368071
>>750361762>>750362087Update on this: Claude made something that in theory would work, but it caused the game to crash. I helped it investigate the cause of the crash on start-up and it's because the game will shut itself down at start-up if it detects any .dll file (or basically anything else trying to run code) in the game directory, apart from the game's .exe and steam .dllIt didn't want to proceed any further with that because it would be considered breaking anti-tamper protection. I also don't like that approach and it sounds kind of dumb to try it that way, so I will give up on this for now. Maybe there's another way to go about it, but I doubt it would be happy being asked to try the same thing in a different way, when it gave up once already.
>>750353294>>750353980this is great King
>>750368498the fuck you doingJust get it to do shit in game so you can fucking get it to memory scan
It really felt like time was dragging on to nothing. Gaming felt fead and stale. I really didn't know what we were pushing towards. Ai has changed everything. Everyday is fucking exciting. It's like electricity has been invented all over again. I haven't felt so lively on /v/ in so long.
