Essentialy it seems TIS want you to always be able to hit with a gun - but roll the diceroll on it doing damage.
Headshots were always damage on the new system, and it looks like that was unintended
    >>
It does feel weird that they'll update literally everything except the zombies. Other than crawling zombies are identical to how they were 10 years ago. Just the same boring mindless mook
    >>
Why exactly does a protein penalty exist? What is the design philosophy behind this?
    >>
    >eating nothing but luxury foods living in the finest mansion is the same level of happiness as a survivor waking up in his trailer day one of the outbreak
There being so few positive moodles is one my problems with this game. You are only punished, never rewarded. So you're encouraged to just subsist on the bare minimum. You can't be comfortable, only uncomfortable. You can't be happy, only sad.

I think this is a great solution. Importance of actual aiming in the new system kept, but the skill becomes a player in the damage of the hit.
    >>
    >>3129556
I think Happiness should be a much more vast, slow-rolling system built off of several others. Something that moves in waves of days or weeks rather than "I ate an omelette. All smiles today!"

Depression/Joy should be the creeping death that demands you keep your basics in check. It should be closer to corpse sickness: By the time you see the moodle, you've already been fucking up for a while.

At least in Rimworld you can jam bionic limbs on people to make them even BETTER.
    >>
    >>3129761
the same reason everyone's understanding on how to make the game more difficult is to lower loot rates and increase zombie count
    >>

I think the new fork has exactly that, a couple cyber options at top tier. But nothing rimworld crazy. There's a couple skilltrees too so you get faster on familiarity. So far I enjoy how it's done and it feels cool as a last ditch effort

Is it realistic and would make the game less fun? Add it in the most bullshit vague and spiteful way possible
If you were running around all day and doing heaps of physical activity, eating MORE fish/meat/etc is not going to make your gains LESS lmao
    >>
    >>3129796
How do you even count proteins without mods? I just grab as much frozen meat after I find a barbell/dumbbell during my puny runs and eat meat to fullness for the str exp bonus.
    >>
    >>3129817
    >How do you even count proteins without mods
    You don't. It's debug/mod only.
    >>
    >>3129818
which is super fucking retarded. it's a video game. you need to gamify these things.
just get a mod that exposes all this stuff and your enjoyment of the game will increase.
    >>
    >>3129818
Does surplus protein stay with your character? Maybe I'll just double, even triple eat on the first day of a strength grind.
    >>
    >>3129823
you can eat up to 500 protein iirc. if you are above 300 you get no buff without a mod that changes that
protein, carbs and fat all drain slowly. it's very opaque and there is literally no clue for protein, nothing about your character state or weight gain will tell you. so either you take Nutritionist and autistically track your protein intake, using exercise XP to verify you're still in the range of bonus XP, or you just mod it.
i recommend giving yourself the 4 free points in sandbox if you want to track this yourself. do not punish yourself for TIS's sake.
    >>
    >>3129827
Does nutritionist show your current nutritional intake?
    >>
    >>3129823
Protein goes up to 1000, but anything above 300 stunts your STR/FIT gains.
You lose about 72 a day, so it's pretty comically easy to skyrocket to 1000 and never be able to get back into the 'safe' range unless you starve your character of any protein for over a week.
    >>
    >>3129827
Correct but you can have 1000 protein. The window is 50-300 for str gain bonus. You naturally lose 70something protein a day
    >>
    >>3129830
    >Does nutritionist show your current nutritional intake?
Nope. Only how much is in food itself.
    >>
    >>3129833
    >anything above 300 stunts your STR/FIT gains
Hold up. So if you eat too much you actually get worse exp gains?
    >>
    >>3129840
    Anything above or below yes
    >>
    >>3129840
    >Hold up. So if you eat too much you actually get worse exp gains?
    Technically it's 1.0 XP gains above 300
But that still feels fucking retarded, you can be proteinmaxxing and not gain any benefit to it.
As if those swole as fuck bodybuilders don't just cram in as much protein as possible.
    >>
Is anyone in here playing multiplayer?
It feels like there are not that many people playing online, it's like 1% or less of daily peak.

What a retarded game mechanic. TIS needs to do more layoffs.
    >>
    >>3129846
    >Is anyone in here playing multiplayer?
    Yes if you count co-op.
    >What a retarded game mechanic. TIS needs to do more layoffs.
The only layoff that'd matter would be firing Lemmy and whoever else remains of the old-guard.
    >>
    >>3129846
I foresee an extremely steep drop after a patch. Temporary unstable is a lie. They will not playtest it thoroughly let alone address any issues found. That shit is going to hit stable after a fake testing period with all the introduced errors those shitass devs can muster.
    >>
    >>3129848
They probably heard of "protein poisoning" and stupidly thought you could have too much protein. Actual protein "poisoning" is from eating meat like rabbit, which is super lean and has no fats. It's the lack of fats, not the protein that's a problem.
Thankfully by the time this thing is finished Claude 13 will be agentic, superintelligent and can rewrite the entire game in an evening, which is what we'll all be doing.
    >>
    >>3129963
tbf i run on 1000 protein -500 fats pretty much all the time

You can't see zombies until you're all the way up top.
In reality you'd see zombies up there and stop climbing up, the character can't see zombies until they plant both feet on the top.
    >Zombies pulling ladders down?

    Nope!
    >Zombies magically never leaving the base of the ladder?
Nope! Zombies randomly wander once LOS is broken for long enough.

It's temporarily taken down on Steam by Valve while the two mod authors argue it out in court.

I've been looking into this shit a little and while I don't have the technical know-how to tell myself what the exact truth is, but after looking around a bunch at both sides my gut very firmly tells me that the PZ_Optimizer guy is in the right and the Atmospheric guy doesn't have a fucking clue what he's talking about and is letting his massive ego get in everybody's way.

FUCK no. Discomfort is ass and gives you Sadness, a massive debuff to attack speed, after like 10 fucking seconds.
I'm honestly shocked everyone was crying and whining about muscle strain instead of Discomfort, which is a MUCH more punishing and awful mechanic. I can't even wear a respirator for 10 minutes before my character spirals into depression.
    >>
    >>3133598
    >Does anybody actually use any of the armor or gear that gives you discomfort?
No? It causes endless depression/sadness/etc because your character never gets used to it.
You could technically micromanage your outfit, but that's going to get fucking tedious as hell.
I use 'discomfort armor' only to the point where discomfort doesn't cause the debuff, which is usually a couple of items at max.

Sadness is such a stupid mechanic in Zomboid. I could understand if it was for specific instances like if you had NPC followers and they died or some other stuff, but your character could be living an incredibly cozy life, even by non-apocalypse standards, and they'll be ravaged by depression.
Wearing protective equipment should make your character feel more confidant if anything I imagine, like I'd much rather be wearing a mask than smelling piles of decomposing bodies.

Carving: knitting needles or spoon to fork
Maintenance: shivs. Pick up every Toothbrush, steel piece, break every glass and rip a load of rags.
    Masonry: smashing rocks
Carpentry: anything, it levels for you with anything useful
    Pottery: fuckin pipes

Carving is probably easiest and most enjoyable to spam the fuck out of even without a book, your source is renewable. Set up a table in some trees. The shiv grind is satisfying when you stockpile but needs a book for best gains
    >>
Welding: cut bars then weld them back together
Blacksmithing: can level along welding, use quarters to make knives. Primitive forge can get you to level 10 and can make the scrap short and longswords but you'll still need advanced stations for useful recipes

I did a fresh PZ install and purged everything because I was having some slowdown. Then I realized PZ_Optimized was gone so I said fuck it and just swapped to PZO. For my experience, the game loads faster than it ever did before, like going from 1m to 10s to load the simulation. The only big difference I got from pz_op was deleting driving stutters and PZO does that too so I don't really see the big deal.

Food/Cooking/etc values are totally fucked to hell and back.
Because hunger has very little to do with how much 'stuff' (fats/protein/carbs/calories) is in the food, you can get some seriously weird results.
My character can chug 4 kilograms of soda like a boss, but eating something much smaller can make him almost explode.
