I made it to the Rain and Lasswell duel but the whole story beat about him getting stronger just falls completely flat for me because he's basically been useless to me ever since Lid showed up. I’ve tried every build and I still can't make him worth a damn. His damage is worse than Rain's, his stragger damage can't compete with Lid's mecha behemoth, he can't pivot into a real mage or support like Nichol or Fina, Can't go full DPS mage like Sakura, he's not bulky enough to off tank like Jake. The guy literally doesn't excel at a single thing, he's just useless as party.

Now that the honeymoon phase is over, give it a rating.Id say 6/10. A phenomenal combat system with very little fluff or bloat, great visuals and music, but a really featureless UI bogs down every encounter. The story is throwaway, though the little dialogue snippets you can get on the overworld are great. The visions system is a total bust because of how undercooked it is compared to jobs and the lack of presets makes them cumbersome to manage. Still, repackaging a mobile game and making it this addicting single player experience proves Squeenix has still got it.

I haven't bought the game yet but wanted to share this for people who didn't know about it yet. Apparently a modder created HD 4K sprites for the game using AI, and they look really good to me. It's like 876 sprites but every sprite and animation got cleaned up and fixes issues and inconsistencies as well. Not sure if it's a bug or I just missed something, but when Nichol's "prepare healing" activates, Rain gets hit and his HP drops low, then Nichol heals him. After that, Nichol suddenly casts the exact same spell the magic DPS user used on the previous turn, like meteor or ultima. It's as if Nichol is using Mimic on his own, even though I don't have that skill equipped. I've only seen this happen a few times, so I'm not really sure what's going on.

Gumi did such a fantastic job of mismanaging Brave Exvius. I quit on either the 2nd or 3rd Anni can't recall when. It was around when Bunny Esther and Charlotte came out. Japanese gacha developers are huge scum bags who do the bare minimum and treat their live-service kusoges as pump and dump scams. Wasn't until China and Korea got into Gachas and IPs weren't used as disposable cash cows did things ever turn around. It's a miracle the game turned out the way it did and we got this stand-alone release.
