When there are so many very good episodes of a TV show or songs by a band, you can't have a "best episode" or "best song." Cheapens the whole thing.

I mean yes. Lore’s self-ID as the better/perfected form of him is literally true. He can bid random lovecraftian space entities to merc entire planets and effortlessly starts to siphon away from and take over the fucking Borg. He’s only defeated by dumb luck and the Achilles heel of his (homosexual, incestuous, requited prior to Data’s memory wipe on omicron theta) love for his brother.
He’s the most powerful entity in the trek universe.
They made this insane setup and then wasted it on three corny villain of the week episodes.

>>224007479
What the fuck is there possibly left to say?
The original show had the perfect ending, then the movies had unforgivably worse but still perfectly final and wrapped up ones.
Then Picard…they dug up corpses to tie up loose ends that didn’t even exist and nobody cared about. Picard himself has almost nothing to do with anything happening. It’s rehashes and recycled plots with people that are visibly near death. Resurrecting Data and Lore just to destroy and botch and rape every single thing about them and give them an incomprehensible cosmic horror ending, just so Spiner didn’t have to act anymore and could be his gratingly normgroid self for the rest of the show.
They’ve run out of material three times in a row; what “different atmosphere”? What “wrapped up with certainty”? Does Jean-Luc need to die of old age on screen? Because that won’t be enough anymore either, because they ran out of material so hard that death no longer existed in the TNG universe by the end of Picard. There were no stakes anymore. The horse is fucking dead.

They should have filmed the last few days of Patrick Stewart dying in his home and had actors from TNG show up in-costume to gaslight him into thinking he really is Picard and that he's hallucinating his life as an actor.
Then edit the footage into a TNG-like Trek episode and make it out as Picard dying and hallucinating a different life.
Then he just fucking dies at the end and everyone is sad lmao.
Would have been kino.

This is the first I’ve heard of anyone actually watching the rest of westworld. I think I gave up after season 2.
Sometimes I’ll “””watch””” the rest of a show I can’t stand as like background noise while doing other stuff, retaining maybe a third of it. I almost got through the wire like that, since the peer pressure to consider it the greatest show of all time is so strong. But it was just cliche and droll and terrible.

>>
Sir Patrick Stewart's passing caught me off guard. I knew he was getting up there in years by the simple measure of time, how long it's been since TNG began, but he always looked just like himself even as he got a little bit wrinklier in places. I wasn't even aware that he was only 4 years younger than Walter Koenig until I saw the "dead at 86" headlines. He's the first of the TNG Bridge crew to pass as well, 18 years after Majel Barrett (who has dedication cards at the end of several seemingly random episodes of TOS that I have downloaded), and the next eldest is John DeLancie (born 8 years after him). But I don't want to think of the rest of the cast as just counting down the days until they're gone, and so I tried to think about what I knew of Picard from the show to think of how I could see the Captain helping prepare things for his crew, on either their next great mission or some much deserved shore leave, but neither of those images sat right with me.
Picard is such a great orator, I've found his speeches to be the most profound of all the captains I'm familiar with (Kirk, Him, Sisko, & Janeway), so I thought to try and find what he might've said on the subject of death. And from an episode I have yet to see, I found this clip which bring does me some comfort: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vm5NDxdp4-E
I hope it brings you all comfort too, may he rest in peace.

>>224010604

>>224011212
>>224011326
Now, don't get me wrong, because I love Voyager, but you can see the rot creep in there... more of a focus on action and explosions than intelligent conversations and thought provoking dilemmas, especially in the later seasons.
Were they afraid that audiences were bored of the latter, or that the actors weren't good enough to make something like Chain of Command convincing?
>>
>>224011513
>inb4 DS9
DS9 only has like five battle scenes in the entire show, in VOY any random episode has consoles exploding, the lights out and Tuvok going SHIELDS ARE DOWN TO 47%! Not that a little action is bad, but they become overly reliant on it.

I think some of it is that they legitimately couldn't think of much new shit that they hadn't already done on TNG.
Oh no some aliens don't like us because we won't gibs them all our shit.
Oh no there's a space lifeform that wants to rape the ship's engines.
Oh no there's some political drama between two worlds.
Oh no they're stuck on the holodeck.
Oh no there's a big black hole sucking the ship in.
Oh no a character is having some niche issue that only their own species can solve.
Oh no there's a virus on the ship.
Oh no it's a prime directive conundrum with some random aliens.
Oh no this computer program might actually possibly maybe be sentient.
Oh no the Borg are probing my asshole.

Blowing everything up was a dumb solution to beating sameyness, but it was a solution.

Look if you feel this much about someone you've never met who didn't even know you existed, you're a better person than me. He made some good work and some stinkers. People who worked with him generally said he was a kind and nice man. He lived a long life and died when expected. Not yucking your yum - feel how you feel. >Picard is such a great orator, I've found his speeches to be the most profound of all the captains I'm familiar with (Kirk, Him, Sisko, & Janeway), so I thought to try and find what he might've said on the subject of death.

ST: Generations isn't very good but Picard has some good lines in it.

God I wish they had solved the uniform issue. The mismash doesn't look good and Frakes having to wear Brooks' uniform is of course even worse.

The TNG characters in Generations seem to act the closest to the way they were in the show. Which I guess makes sense, as it was filmed only like three weeks after All Good Things. Every movie after that seems to increasingly flanderize Picard, Data, Worf while flat out ignoring everyone else. Except Insurrection which gives all seven cast members something significant to do I guess. But I'm starting to ramble here

It was very compromised because they were basically working backwards from the studio's demands. Picard has to meet Kirk, blow up the Enterprise again, etc. The whole plot is just stretching connecting all those dots.

Gonna be brutally honest lads, I think this episode is extremely overrated. It doesn't make any goddamn sense. There's no reason Starfleet would sanction a drumhead trial of that kind or send a veteran judge out into deep space just to supervise it, her motivations are weak and unconvincing, and the spread of paranoia and suspicion among the crew is very out of character to the officers we know. The whole foundation of the episode is kind of bullshit.

You remember how in "I, Mudd", Norman the Robot commandeers the ship and takes them to Mudd's Planet before the first act is finished? Did you know that Kandel's original draft had it take 2 acts to get there, before David Gerrold rewrote the script to be tighter? Today's episode didn't have anyone shrink the timeline, so the first 2 acts on that random planet where the Kelvans are toying with Kirk and the away team while also taking over the ship end up feeling like a trip to the fireworks factory, but on further consideration it is necessary for several elements to get adequate establishment (the true forms of the Andromedan Kelvan Imperials, Spock discovering their lack of exposure to emotions, the cuboctahedron neutralization method) without it feeling like too much information at once, which would be too Rapid a pacing if they had gone all Muddy with it.
But that still means the real show is when they get past the Galactic Barrier and it's just Scotty getting Tomar drunk, Kirk seducing Kelinda, and Spock pitting Rojan against Kirk to make him lose his cool. I didn't see the ending where Kirk convinces them of their humanity and uses that as an olive branch between the Federation and the Empire, getting Rojan to reconsider the earlier offer of cohabitation now that it's no longer against their nature. It's great to get such an uplifting moment after a long day like this one. The final line of "We're going home." referring to his crew and the first Kelvan colonizers is the cherry on top.
The references back to earlier episodes were also really fun, the same barrier effect from "WNMHGB" which Kirk confirms his familiarity with in Act 1, and the same trick Spock tried in "A Taste of Armageddon" right down to namedropping Eminiar-VII. They didn't have to do it, but it's great that they did.
>>
>>224014513
*I didn't see that ending coming
That sentence got away from me there, lol.
>>
>>224014043
This is absolutely true. It's a lesser Measure of a Man.

Measure of a Man itself makes very little sense if you consider that Data has been serving in Starfleet for over 20+ years at the time of his trial and his status as an individual, or his legal rights within the UFP, or within Starfleet were just somehow never determined? What, he was never given legal status? Issued an ID, or the equivalent? Can he vote in elections?
The idea that they just let this thing that isn't even ruled to be sentient or to have individual rights or citizenship in the Federation sit at the most critical position on the flagship of the fleet is really just kind of fucking absurd.

Both of them have great speeches though.

>It is [good], because it [Star Trek: Picard S3] stepped away from the political open borders propaganda of S1 and 2 and went with a classic Trek story. It's essentially a 10 hour movie and on par with Wrath of Khan quality wise, yes it is that good.
The more people say this, the more I'm convinced that it's mostly casuals who've maybe watched the movies and a handful of episodes, and then agree with RLM on everything.

If Trek were real, the most moral Trek society would be this;

-Society where the denizens work on transcending the flesh and becoming holograms.

-Holodeck per person.

-World has holo generator which makes the world invisible to outsiders.

There are two distinct kinds of trek fans.
The people that like the more existential and introspective stuff and character work. Often the TNG and DS9 only people.
And the people that genuinely only like action slop and cool sfx. Usually more into TOS and nuTrek.
The latter are the “picard s3 was good actually” people.
>>
>>224018251
>And the people that genuinely only like action slop and cool sfx. Usually more into TOS
You couldn't be more full of shit if you tried.
TOS is for real sci-fi fans.
TNG is for everyone.
DS9 is for melodrama fans who don't care much about sci-fi.
VOY is for weird fiction fans.
ENT is for hardcore star trek fans.
nutrek is for overly political leftists.
>>
>>224018251
I wouldn't say they're more into TOS because 99% of people have never even watched it, they just say they do. Or they watch the movies and think it's close enough.
>>
>>224018251
TOS does existential and introspective just as much if not more than TNG. There's also an argument that if you include the movies it matches in character work too.
>>
>>224018294
There's a decent amount of overlap between TOS boomers that watched it in their youth and ardent nu-Trek defenders who usually shit on TNG.

>action slop and cool sfx
Spoken like a true larper who thinks Kirk was fucking every episode

TOS is the most philosophywank heavy Trek show. Kirk is essentially space Socrates who solves problems through compelling argument.
TNG is the one which leans more on reversing the polarity of the neutron flow type shit and poltiics.
and TOS fans were the first to get assblasted about NuShit because of the reboot movies.
