Anyone else refraining from rushing out and buying the Super Mario sets on day 1? I'm worried about cracks and I doubt that Yoshi's going to be gatekept behind that single, ugly, overpriced Mario's house set so the same goes for the other characters. I ain't spending $100 just to get Peach.
    >>
    >>11922382
out of everything you could complain about I don't a $40 set with a goomba, yoshi and mario should be it

be thankful they are not locked inside a $250 pokeball
    >>
    >>11922382
As an adult I have zero interest in the iconography of the mario franchise
    >>
    >>11922384
Easy, because it's a cheap looking and overly simple house design that doesn't resemble any depictions of Mario's actual house and that same Goomba is already easily available in the pipe set which is the cheaper option if you're fine with not getting Yoshi anytime soon or the more expensive kart set which at least includes Bowser, Toad, and Cow as well as their respective karts. When comparing this set to those two, it's the worst in terms of bang for your buck. I would have rather gotten a Yoshi's food truck to further go with the Mario Kart theme.
    >>
I'm looking for scans of those leaflets that came in old sets showcasing other sets that left kids salivating for more, some even had those fancy promo dioramas. Is there some kind of online repository for those?

Im even very nostalgic for super mario world, mario 64, kart 64 and party 1 to 3 but at the end of the day there is nothing engaging, cool or interesting about the mario universe.

I still like (some) Zelda, I still like (some) Pokemon but Mario is just a big clusterfuck of nothing. Go watch the Mario Movie and spend thousands on amiibos you nintoddler

Why not give Mario those potter shorter legs that still hinge? Did they seriously made Mario and Luigi the same height?
    >>
    >>11922614
But then Mario would be the same height as Toad?

I still bugs the shit out of me that they didn't fully color his feet brown. They didn't pull that shit with Sonic so why cut corners here? I'm also getting used to Yoshi but part of me still thinks he could have been better. Either remove the removable shell play feature so that he'd be less stocky or give him moveable legs that are split apart from each other.
    >>
    >>11922515
If "manchildren" had it their way, we'd be seeing sets on
    >Yoshi's (both the restaurant and food truck)
    >Robo-DK
    >Either MK64 Rainbow Road (Remake) train or Calamari Desert train
    >Thousand Year Door
    >Glitzville
    >Comet Observatory
    >Peach's airplane
    >Koopa Clown Car
    >Bowser's Airship
    >The Odyssey ship
    >Practically any and every kart from MKDD and MKDS in polybags

I'm totally missing stuff but all this came to me at the top of my head. No one's saying that Mario has FromSoft levels of lore and dark themes but it's had a ton of cool shit over the years that would make for great sets.

Not to be racist but who is even the target audience for this? It feels like the kind of set that was only made for LAN members to talk about the "sick building techniques" and "awesome parts usage" and never be seen or discussed again after the review drops. Like what kind of person meets all these criteria:
    >A huge fan of Venice specifically (since most actual Italians and Italiophiles despise that shithole)
    >Invested enough in Lego to consider what is essentially a non-modular modular build at minifigure scale of a fictional idealized setting rather than an architect scale model of an actual place they saw or visited there
    >Has $550 they are willing to burn on this highly specific interest
Maybe someone who is already really into modulars with a whole city with plenty more money to spare and a desire to make a vacation spot adjacent to their city? This wouldn't really fit into an existing modular city since the building design is so different.

    >who is even the target audience for this?
we've been over this math before.
if the set is several hundreds of dollars, Lego really only needs to sell a few of them to make it worthwhile. for every The Lego Store (1000-ish), they need to sell like 4 of them, maybe less, to cover the entire process of producing the set in large-enough amounts

I wonder if Lego has a giant warehouse FULL of over-runs of these massive sets. I know some of them are "discontinued" which means... heh! they DID sell out of the 10,000 they ran through the factory! good for them!

just to highlight the kindergarten math, 10,000 sets at $500 each would make Lego 5 million dollars. between plastic material costs, the guys designing the sets, printing the box, shipping them to the stores... etc... that's a LOT less than 5 million dollars. not even close.

I agree - there is no authentic pizzeria that would post an ugly americanized "HERE IS PIZZA LOL!" dumbass logo-post on top.
It could be perfect without that.
    Thankfully
    1) it's free
    2) you can just...not put it because it's lego
    con:
you have to spend a lot of money. Like...i want to buy a harry potter castle part with Basilisk but it's fucking 250euros on Lego.com but i bought it for just 160 euros on Amazon during sale.

Jang's time has come and gone. His ego got too big and it is as much about his as it is about the sets he covers. Even then his set reviews are as predictable as if Ai made it. I haven't watched one of his videos in a while, but he always closes with how the set would be so much better if it was $10 or $15 cheaper. You could probably make a drinking game out of every point he repeats in each review.

    >>11925129
    >but he always closes with how the set would be so much better if it was $10 or $15 cheaper.
    Lego must LOVE these comments.
    every Lego review, ever:
-it's great! super great! this part is great! this thing is great! (etc...)
-but the price is awful. too much! wait for sale if you can.

all Lego wants is the "Great" part they care not if people can actually afford it

let me cry about Lego OP once more.

that's the clear-est face-slap set where Lego blatantly held back on including Luffy-wearing-hat just because they "expected" people to have $140 for the ship. (you need to spend dat $140! you can't possibly be that poor!??) despite the fact that it's young Luffy and you still kinda needed to get $55 Buggy set to get grown up Luffy (who should have had wearing-hat piece in Buggy set, too, by the way)

Shanks has all three options. hair, hat-w-hair, or just-hat. why not do the same with Luffy?!!!!!!! AAAARRRRGGGHHHH he's the main freaking character!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    >>
    >>11925208
What the fuck are you even ranting about?
    >>
    >>11925217
Lego locked "Luffy-Wearing-Hat" into only the most expensive sets

he's the main character of the show. they make many references, all the time, throughout the series, about how important his straw hat is to him. the group is literally named "The Straw Hat Pirates"

but Lego Luffy wearing his hat? $140 minimum.

it's one tiny little piece. there's no need for Lego to be stingy and not include it, yet... they want dat $140 of yours to get it. hey if you want to buy the $360 set, it's in that one, too.

    - Luffy (not "wearing" hat) in "regular" outfit with normal arms in $55 Buggy set

would they lock Luke Skywalker into a $140 set? Harry Potter? Captain America is in the $55 set, but if you want his Shield you have to buy the $140 set.

why did Lego choose to do this with One Piece? the giant castle where the doctor lady lives, doctor lady included in a different set. random wanted posters? when those posters are also important parts of the show??? it's like they completely expect all fans to have bought all sets. if you did, the theme is 100% awesome. but again, Lego LOVES those kinds of statements. buy it all! it's crazy amazing if you have the money to buy all the sets! I'm inclined to agree with you, but I remember when these were first leaked every comment was about scalpers, so we'll have to wait and see. It's interesting though, these will be differently scaled than everything that's been released so far, so I'd guess that these will be their own thing. The play scale, the minifigure scale, and these buildable figures. Curious how they'll look, if they're decent I might be interested. And they'll be able to sell these everywhere, unlike the smart play sets.

Any series that isnt an IP or Ninjago has only 3 years. Thats the normal lifecycle.
Nexo Knights were kinda bogged. Chima fans hated that their series was replaced. Ninjago fans had their Ninjago. It was kinda sure to fail.

The build in Chima and Nexo Knights were really great and it feels like alot they learned was later made for Ninjago.

    build your own Space sets.

they're kinda slacking on the Castle figures, but there's still a couple per year

People always suspected that the line was literally a dumping ground for parts overstock, or something. The line was essentially just Lego "Not Back to the Future" there is just so much more they could have done with that than just weird amalgamations of parts from other themes. I thought the Time Twisters side actually had more focused, coherent sets.
    >>
    >>11926004
    >>11926441
Lego pretty much just passed Castle and Pirates over to the BLD program. They know people will buy anything, so they can just finagle it so that the largest set in any given BLD series is a big castle 90% of the time, and the few times it isn't, its probably a big pirate ship or something.
    >>
    >>11926657

exactly. "create" your own pirate set
all you need is the pirate character to make it look like it was a "real" pirate set

that's why people are Minifig hoarders. it's usually the only part of a set that you can't "create" (and even that is not always true)

Solidifed the overly bright color coded characters trend and the sets are just not well designed, play features are weak zd they look terrible for display leaving them unsatisfying for both kinds of demographics. It and Castle 2007 were my childhood castle themes and while I don't love 07 I get why it has fans and do enjoy the later factions like dwarves and trolls, KK2 though just has zero appeal to me even with the nostalgia of having owned numerous sets from the theme. KK1 at least has great minifigs, more then I can even say then for KK2.
