    >>
    >>11910851
The proportions are just terrible. This is why I hate licensed minifigures in general. They come from a variety of different sources of all different art styles and proportions, so they just don't work when forced into wonky Lego minifigure proportions. It doesn't help that nu-Lego design philosophy puts realism and accuracy first over everything else, which clashes with the very design of minifigures since their proportions are insane and nonsensical compared to a human or any other toy based on the shape of a human body like action figures.

As I mentioned in the other thread, most of the pieces those sets use are common and cheap enough that's it's probably easier to just get them on bricklink than messing around with 3d prints (a lot of those sets are just made out of the standard bricks and plates any Lego collector inevitably ends up having loads of). Not sure how you'd do the printed pieces with a 3d printer anyway, unless you intend to get stickers for them, but buying the actual printed pieces would probably be only marginally more expensive and look better.
The pieces you would want to print are a few specific ones that are very rare and expensive. The most obvious ones are the big transparent quarter-dome pieces, but also stuff like this damn thing: >>11910063 (common in trans dark blue, but only ever produced in trans neon orange for two sets).

Trans orange would get confused with the other trans orange that isn't fluorescent. IIRC the official name for the color is transparent reddish orange, which is an accurate description, but neon orange/green highlights that those two colors are made out of LISA plastic.
Also, I've seen trans neon orange/green being used for years without anybody complaining or being confused at what colors they refer to. What's with this recent push against them?

    >this recent push against them?

Anyway, don't like historical revisionism, simplas. Nobody calls pre-2004 light grey "greenish light grey", do they, they call the zoomer one "light bley".
Also, using official colour guide names is gay reddit shit. There's a colour that's light blue, we all know it's light blue, but it has to be "mEdIuM blue" because there's a bajillion lighter pastel blues that each showed up in one set apiece. Y'know what shade of blue is actually "medium"? Regular fucking blue.

    It's an unsettling color.

it's insane how there's like 40,000 characters in Fortnite and Lego does like a couple per set yeah that's enough they need to stop at some point

I'm sure the 3D models are easy to transfer over to reality molds, and the torso/Lego print artwork is DONE. reminds me of Animal Crossing and those head molds are done, they could easily paint new faces on them, but nah 2 characters is enough for a $80 set they need to stop at some point. Able Sisters is okay with just the one sisters they need to stop at some point and not even make a new print on the same mold for the other sister

I got back into lego not too long ago, and it's honestly starting to get slightly depressing. It is an undeniable fact that their brick quality and quality control has gotten worse and the only sensible answer to that is penny pinching even though they are already making millions regardless.

I've bought numerous old and new sets, and have my older small collection for comparison as well, and the differences in quality I keep encountering truly are staggering.
I still like lego, and some of these new sets look really good, but every time I get something newer, I virtually almost always have to tinker with it because you either have stuff like pic-related which was literally a non-existent issue 20 years ago, or there is some outrageously bad designed aspect in the build that by some bizarre reason somehow got greenlit. I have legit outright refused to put certain stickers on newer sets because their colors are so miss-matched that applying them would make the set look like total dogshit.
I literally never had this issue 20 years ago, assuming we are even talking about a set that had stickers and wasn't with full prints only, which is a rare thing to see these days as well.

The worst is probably when I "de-slopify" minifigures by removing abhorrently tacky legprinting and such. I had fun with that at first, but at some point it's hard not to feel weird about it since I often actually have to buy more proper/non-tacky legs for a minifigure that I already paid for, a minifig that doesn't even feel proper and complete until I "fix" it.

Like, I have a small pile of these rejected tacky arm/leg printings by now that will probably never see actual usage, how big is that pile going to be in 2027?

    >>
    >>11912999
I read somewhere that the head holes were originally added to prevent choking when accidentally inhaled by a child, but then had to be redesigned because they let too much air through so you could not effectively get the child to cough it up. So the new partially holed design is supposed to be a middle ground between the two where you can both breathe through it in a pinch and get enough air into it to cough it up.
    >>
    >>11913349
    >I read somewhere that the head holes were originally added to prevent choking when accidentally inhaled by a child
No, it was just cost saving because it uses slightly less plastic (which adds up) and/or because the new mold didn't need replacing as quickly (replacing worn out molds is expensive).

If they actually put holes in heads to lessen the choking hazard, they wouldn't have started producing solid stud heads again.
    >>
    >>11913380
I thought they put holes in to make it easier to separate the heads due to atmospheric pressure?
    >>
I'm sure I read about an experiment where people (adults) intentionally swallowed a Lego minifig head to see how fast it was passed through the body. I think the average was two days. Yes people did check their shits for a yellow smiling lego face. Of course I wouldn't recommend swallowing a chunk of plastic in case it gets stuck somewhere on the way through.

20ish years ago I would've killed for a fig like this to accurately represent the BF2 roster (without, y'know, just paintgoring a snowtrooper) but at this point it's kinda just who gives a shit, y'know?
That, and there's no way in hell I'm buying the utter insult that is the nigganaut set itself.

I mean, they really are just proto-snowtroopers though. But I understand caring about the small differences I guess.
Maybe it's just because I'm an old fart, since I had no issue with lego literally using the default stormtrooper helmet but black for the TIE fighter pilots back in the day.

I really meant more because I had some bad experiences painting/modifying Lego pieces in my youth (and fucked up a few fairly decent ones doing so) so I'm averse as a rule to that sort of thing. Doubly so where any shade of red pigment is concerned, that shit stains like a bastard.

Nah, that rex one was literally advertised to be "exclusive to this set", these galactic marines weren't and I think most clones/stormtroopers all eventually end up getting a magazine/polybag run at some point.
Though lego putting those marines this early into one is most likely not a coincidence kek.

Google Lens is pretty good for identifying Lego pieces and if it is wrong it will pull up images of the wrong similar looking pieces so you at least know it's wrong. But what I don't get are the current parts in current colours that happen to be rare, for example picrel was only in one large Star Wars set in 2005, one of the few parts that's more expensive in new grey than old grey. But Lego could release a small set with 4 of them tomorrow and that 'value' would tank.

    >So how good is the trainer supplies set?
it feels like a slap in the face

that polybag could have been a Minifig Trainer with a molded Pokemon, in a little scene with tall grass or something. but they want to use the Minifigs to sell a $300 set instead.

those $300 Trainer Minifigs are in a basketball-sized Pokeball, larger than a "real-life-sized" Pokeball would be, simply to sell it for $300.

the Pokeballs in that polybag are too big for other Minifigs to hold, and they are too small for the scale of brick-built Pokemon they made with the square faces

I guess they do look square-ish for "balls" so in a sense they feel like a "Lego version" of a Pokeball, for whatever that's worth (I think that's the reasoning behind the odd square-faced brick-built Pokemon in general?)

Threw a bunch of stupid Minecraft crap I got into bags because it was taking up too much space on my shelf. I'm thinking that I can use them to build some castle stuff but I hate all the specialized crap they include, like the weapons or minifigures that can't be used in any other theme. I also am disassembling some Dreamzzz crap I bought and I'm hoping I can use the brightly colored weird pieces to make some kind of Umbara terrain but I don't have any Umbarans because Lego Star Wars makes nothing but Siege of Mandalore slop from the Clone Wars and nothing from the rest of the show anymore. Dreamzzz and Minecraft sets are the only Lego I regret ever buying.

What the fuck do you guys expect, it isn't like Lego even offers anything basically post Ice Planet. I'm surprised they even threw a buggoid minifigure from Galaxy Squad in the space CMF line.

There are plenty of people here who have been talking about UFO, Insectoids (one guy even posted a bunch of Insectoid MOCs within the last month or two). Fuck, Exploriens, UFO, and Robo Force were some of my favorite Space themes when I was a kid. I think a lot of us WANT Lego do do something with those, but it isn't like we can do anything about it.

LEGO Ideas has announced a new challenge to create a Star Wars x Marvel crossover set! The challenge is split into three categories: a crossover character, a vehicle, or a scene. The winning project(s) will have the chance to become official LEGO sets.

There are also two rumored LEGO Star Wars x Marvel sets coming in late 2027, with the Iron Falcon rumored to be one of them, so you might want to avoid that concept.

The LEGO Ideas crossover set(s) will most likely be released around 2028, following approval and development. Also, apparently, only characters from Star Wars: A New Hope are allowed on the Star Wars side of the crossover meanwhile all Marvel Comics characters are allowed and events or vehicles but not MCU. Also you cannot use AI for your Ideas projects.

You can find the full challenge details here: https://ideas.lego.com/campaigns/hope-assembles

Well it's a bit chicken and egg, isn't it. Do predditors latch on to those themes because they're what's available, or do Lego specifically stick with the most basic bitch themes instead of adapting something a bit more interesting because that's all the majority of their consoomers care about?
Anyway, speaking of Blacktron and CMFses, it just now occurred to me that picrel related is the only Blacktron CMF fig that doesn't have some disgusting Blacktron II (fuck you, I'm not saying "fUtUrE gEnErAtIoN") lime faggotry on it.

I honestly don't care about all the OG space man recolors and never buy any of those, but I bought the Galaxy Explorer and the Blacktron Renegade remakes specifically because I was hoping showing some support for those would help with potential support for other, later vintage space themes.

That being said, I think so many of the old translucent colors predominantly used in the old space themes are retired, and it wouldn't feel quite right without those colors as highlights.

    >Galaxy Explorer and the Blacktron Renegade
I mean, they are just good sets too. Especially the Renegade.

    >>
    >>11922041
Don't get me wrong, I did want those, I was just hoping they also went further with more updates to older flagships from old space themes.

I just don't think the Renegade did all that well, at least compared to the Galaxy Explorer. You can still get the Renegade for less than retail despite the fact that it retired nearly a year ago.
    >>
    >>11922041

    >>
I'm cleaning up my 2nd hand backlog and just put this together. Feels good to have this set, never thought I would. It's missing the sign, the wench, and a few easily replaceable parts. At some point I want to build a larger section of the inn that goes behind it to give it some actual rooms, kitchen, bar, etc. The interior is lacking and only has a table and chair by default.
    >>
    >>11922042
Well of course it didn't sell as well, Classic Space occupies the alpha big dog spot at the top of the Space redditnigger foodchain.
Also, while I do think the Renegade is better designed and has better play features, the Explorer is kind of a better value even if it's mostly just a grey triangle.
    >>11922055
But the wench is the biggest appeal of the set.
    >>
    >>11922009
that's true they kind of fucked themselves over by retiring translucent neon green and orange. You can still get trans neon green parts from gobricks but the dye used is very very very slightly different. It's more apparant under a blacklight.

Would you accept an Explorien, Insectoid or UFO remake that uses trans bright green instead?

Spyrius and Unitron are the last themes in the "faction era", of space themes, where the themes were presented as sharing the same universe in the catalogs, so it makes a natural break-point.
Personally, I think most Exploriens sets just aren't that good, and while UFO and Insectoids are cool (especially UFO), they're also stylistically very different from the older space themes so I wouldn't count them among "classic" space themes (more like early modern space themes or something). Themes after that were after I stopped buying Lego sets so I don't have any nostalgia for them.
I'd like to see some UFO or Insectoid CMFs in some future wave, though.
