    == STOLEN GROUPBUILD ==

Build a Mecha or vehicle built by one faction, but change its aesthetics and style to its rival faction! Examples include but are not limited to
    >Canon examples of mechs being stolen and used by another group (ie: Casval's Gundam, Feddie Zakus, Ashura Mazinger, etc)
    >Designs intended for one faction that were repurposed into a design for another faction (ie: Gerbera Tetra)
    >What-if scenarios (ie: A Titans color Zeta Gundam)
    >Stylistic interpretation (ie: What would a EFF version of the Z'gok look like?)
When it comes to your build, really make it clear that your mecha is being used by the other side!

    START: 8/16/26
    END: 11/15/26

Send a description along with both WIP and Finished images of your build to [email protected]. Photo submission guidelines:
    >Minimum 6 images shot from multiple poses/angles, the more the better
    >Don't resize the images, if they are too big to send just send them in a zip

Cool to see my picture get used for the general, I built the RG Char's zaku last weekend and broke the hip joint a few days ago. Love the new RG's, night and day difference to stuff built with an advanced MS frame. I should have known better anyway, I didn't work the joint in but I didn't expect it to be so tight considering the opposite joint was super smooth. Oh well.

    >I wonder what it's like to build with other people.
We had our get together. He had finished assembly of his Zaku II by the time I had finished putting together Exias torso and head. I guess that's what I get for gifting it to someone who used to do commissions for tabletop minis, I should've gotten him a second kit.

His workbench didn't have room for 2 + tv so we sat on the floor building while watching Gundam. It was fun, I've ordered myself a second HG kit but I'm still working on Exia.
Should you be doing panel lining during building or after you're finished? We were doing it after assembly but it seems like it might be easier before putting it all together.

    >even worse, one of the foot pieces was bent out of shape, very evident stress marks

All right, lesson learned, look for a vendor on Ali that explicitly says that they will put extra padding on the package prior to shipping. This kit is still buildable, but I'm almost certainly going to need to do some pla plate reinforcing on the underside of this piece, maybe even some runner goo repair if it breaks.

My friend recently got into gunpla and I don't really know anything about it. What's the best value kit I can buy him for up to $100?
    >>
    >>11903884
If you're just looking for raw value, go to a Hobby Lobby and buy a Master Grade kit. They're the cheapest way to get Gunpla in the US, even if their variety is quite low. Right now odds are that your choices are The Gundam 3.0, Freedom 2.0, Barbatos, F91, Zeta Ver. Ka, and Wing Zero Custom. All are excellent kits, though Freedom 2.0 has notoriously terrible hip joints that tend to break and might require buying metal replacement parts.

In terms of difficulty, if your friend is really new to Gunpla then he'll probably be getting into the hobby with High Grade kits, which are pretty cheap. By comparison Master Grades are a bit more complex and have a much higher parts count, but also don't require painting to look good and the pieces are big enough that he probably won't have trouble handling them. The other commonly available Gunpla grade is Real Grade, which is about the same size as High Grade but full of a bunch of very small parts that can be difficult to work with as a newbie.

how do you guys prevent paint chipping? i have some experience airbrushing scale model kits but whenever i do gunpla i inevitably get some chipping in the joints/ skirt sections
    >>
    >>11907837
    1. Top coat after painting, that's what it's for.

    2. While test-fitting, check for which surfaces are contact surfaces (where one piece will contact another piece), and obviously don't paint surfaces that connect with other parts and don't paint the joints themselves.

    3. If you absolutely must paint contact surfaces, sand them down a bit first to improve the tolerances.
    >>
    >>11907842
not sanding the contact points might be my issue, i already prime/ varnish all the pieces separately
    >>
    >>11907837
    >how do you guys prevent paint chipping
    build dioramas
    >>
    >>11907844
Yeah, what makes Gunpla different from scale models is that the parts literally have sub-millimeter tolerances since they're expected to snap together and still move around, especially with armor plates and transforming kits. Even adding a fraction of a millimeter worth of paint coat on top can throw off that tolerance and cause pieces to start rubbing together, which is where chipping and flaking happen.

Also, Gunpla is usually painted using lacquers and enamels, not acrylics like you usually see with military models and tabletop miniatures. Acrylics chip really easily, but lacquers and enamels are somewhat tougher (though the involved chemicals means that a respirator is mandatory for your health).
    >>
    >>11907847
i paint with a mix of acrylics and lacquers, the top coat is always a lacquer at the very least, although i have limited experience airbrushing enamels
thankfully i think i have everything i would need as is
    >>
    >>11907847
    >what makes Gunpla different from scale models
is that they are toys with movable parts that are expected to be moved by the user, and not just left on the display shelf
    >>
    >>11907854
    >inb4 someone brings up the "point" that gunpla aren't toys and if you want a toy, you should be buying the metal toys that are 5k to 10k yen minimum if they even made one for what you want (don't worry, they didn't), or the older toys from like twenty fucking years ago

Is this a mix of waterslides and stickers?
    >>
    >>11908158
Nope, they're all stickers, some clear some foil. Waterslides have a blue backing. Bandai doesn't do waterslides unless it's a Ver. Ka or P-Bandai, you're more likely to get dry-rub seals.
    >>
    >>11908160
Boo, I wanted to play water slide.

They are bluish hence my confusion.

Anyone out there making third party replacements?
    >>
    >>11908214
If it's a PG, MG or RG, there's a nearly 100% certainty that third-party waterslides exist. It's just up to you who you want to buy from, generally your choices are high-quality Korean manufacturers like Delpi and G-Rework or cheaper Chinese makers like Dalin/DL Model, Flaming Snow, etc. Third-party waterslides are 99% likely to be better than Bandai's stuff, even Chinese makers. If you only want to buy one or two waterslide sheets then AliExpress is probably your best bet, especially if you can find a vendor that charges little to nothing for shipping. The Korean name brands tend to sell on webstores, and also host their own websites. I tend to buy from Delpi since they waive shipping charges if you buy in bulk and I have a fuckhuge backlog.

I finally figured out what the short fat GodHand tweezers were missing. I knew that hole was there for a reason.

A thumb screw, a thumb nut, 2 nylon washers and you get a nice little painting handle for pilot figures.

Speaking of painting handles, a mini tripod, a mini ball head and a bit from UStar multi-vise make a nice one too.

Did AK Model's Hazel Expansion Fun Pack get nuked from Aliexpress?? I was really looking forward not to spend an exorbitant amount of funds to finally get an HG Owsla, what with the impending EU gatekeeping policies coming into play soon

Any other places I could look?

Finding specific shit on Ali can be a challenge, my approach is to use the image search feature and looking for similar items. Sometimes they somehow sell out of everything of a particular item sitewide, it's uncommon but it does happen. For example, I'm keeping an eye on an MS General girlpla that's only been announced with no actual product yet, and at least twice the preorder offers have disappeared sitewide and I can't find it despite knowing the exact keywords. But it does eventually show back up, so maybe it will for you too.
