Why has no game managed to get them right?

Aren't they crazy powerful in 3.5e?

I like the way the summoner class in Draw Steel works, and it has a necromancer subclass.I have played a Draw Steel summoner from 1st level to max level.
>>98893707Necromancers rolling around with a giant horde of dickass skeletons sounds fun but it’s annoying for the real people at the table who have to wait for you to roll 15 different actions. That’s why the concept is so popular here where almost nobody actually plays TTRPGs; they don’t know what it’s like to have to actually play with real people.

>>98893752Is Draw Steel actually any fun?
>>98893779If you like grid-based tactical combat, there is a decent chance that you will like Draw Steel. If not, then no.

>>98893753This basically, in actual play summoners that can control more than one, maybe two summons are a cancer and a blight. If you want that sort of game, play a skirmish or war game instead of a TTRPG.
>>98893753The cure for that is to force that player to GM... and then play a minionmancer in his game. And just go absolutely fucking ham on it and rub his nose in it.And if he gains a gleam of self-awareness and apologizes for being wrong, just quadruple down on it and keep going until he abdicates the game entirely in abject defeat.

It's actually kind of fucked how many of the big name games give zero shits about facilitating hordes. I can't imagine it's as simple as slapping a swarm-rule on everything a player summons, but just leaving it to murder the action economy is so weird.
>>98895502The swam kind of rules are kind of a band-aid to the problem, but it's one of the few attempts at a solution I've seen most games attempt.
>>98895502The action economy isn't murdered when you work a little harder to make reactions better, but some faggot will no doubt just respond with "AND MAKE BATTLES FEEL MORE FIDDLY" or cry about video games, so fuck it.

Because mny DMs hate it when your character hoovers up the remains of everything you defeat, animate them and push them in as a wall in front. It unbalances their carefully planned encounters, stops the ysyal build of suspense through resourses drain and means each encounter becomes steadily more complicated By the time the final boss fight, instead of a bunch of drained exhaisted heros against a single powerful villain, the general will be steamrolled by the party AND all the monsters you encounted and re-animated on the way - can you imagine the paperwork and dice rolling involved?!It's the same reason why many DMs hate henchmen, pets and mounts, hiring mercenaries or swarms of robot drones - many consider it a form of cheating.
