Should spellcasting be removed or heavily restricted to a non combat role, like how it’s been for all of human history?
    >>
    >>98890840
The only "should" that applies to your games is you should make your games how you want to play them.
    >>
    >>98890840
    >like how it’s been for all of human history?
Are you kidding? Combat mages have been front line fire team requirements for the last century, its the easiest hard counter to drone swarms.
    >>
Magic isn't real so what are you referring to?Shamanistic rituals like for healing, fertility, a good harvest/hunt?

    Magic is real though

Interesting, I don't think I've ever heard about that proposition before.
So the magic would be restricted to stuff like building, crafting, transporting, healing, changing the environment (for example, making it rain, making the soil more fertile), that sort of thing?

I suppose it might work in a fiction book, but I'm not so sure it'd work very well on a game unless you really hate magic users and just want the players to be rogues, fighters, etc., and everybody is on board with it.
To me the problem with magic is just that it tends to outshine everything else with time, which can also be lame for the non-spellcasting players.

Should nails in games be replaced with wood joinery like it has been through most of history in your game group setting story?
    >>
    >>98890969
Does the setting lack a reliable source of metal or skilled blacksmiths?
    >>
    >>98890992
Should games include taverns, when taverns didn't exist for most of history?

    >>
    >>98891088
Does the game take place in a specific time period on earth? Anachronisms aren't really an problem if the setting takes place on a different world entirely with magic and whatnot.
    >>
    >>98890840
Why do you think there is or could possibly be any "should" applying universally to all games and/or fantasy settings here?

I think it can work, but what if the player wants to make a spellcaster? Would it be forbidden, or would they suck at combat and would just be able to do utility stuff?
    >>
    >>98891144
Should player characters be allowed to freely travel? Since for most of history this wasn't allowed.

The only should applies to people like OP who should NOT be making cookie cutter threads with identical prompts like they're trying to go viral on a tiktok trend. Which they probably are, by making these threads to generate content an AI will read out.

Again does the game take place in a specific time period on earth? If not than it's entirely up to the setting and the preference of the dm.

    Mundane detected
    >‘There are also certain ancient trackways along which the spirit host would continually manifest to pursue their hunt at particular times, which were sometimes denoted as ‘Woden’s way’ in Saxon England. In Holland and Germany these spirit-tracks are called Doodwegen (Death-roads’) and Geisterwegen (‘Ghost-roads’). Likewise on stormy nights on Dartmoor the Midnight Hunter and his Wish hounds would run on the track known as the Abbot's Way which leads towards Cornwall.
    >In the old days folk would assidiously avoid these paths, especially round the Fire Festivals, and to have one running through a dwelling place was thought to be disastrous. To meet the god on one of these tracks is to court madness or death. In a house where two or three doors directly faced each other, there was a likelihood of the Wild Hunt passing through them. Thus such alignments were avoided in traditional architecture. All this indicates a geomantic dimension inherent within the concept of the Wild Hunt, relating to ritual landscapes, spirit paths and cyclic magical manifestations.
    >‘The Devil sometimes appears in this guise at the sabbat; a Suffolk witch trial of 1655 states that the “Old one manifested as “...a rough tanny dog playing on a pair of Pipes”, and the Guernsey witch Isabel Becquet in 1617 saw him in the form of a dog “...with two great horns sticking up’, Guernsey tradition knows the Black Dog as Tehi-Co with it’s luminous eyes and clanking chain. The connect between canines and the death powers is of ancient origin for dogs are supposed to be able to perceive the goddess Hela.
    >In some forms of Traditional Craft the Dark God is represented by the stang, a forked ashwood stave which stands in the North of the circle as the Horned Guardian of the portal between the worlds. Sometimes the Stang is formed from a pair of bulls horns mounted on a staff with a Tinen shirt hung from a cross-beam.

    I'm not a tradcath though.
    >At the start of the winter months he is Master of the Wild Hunt, and his frenzied and ghostly chase is accompanied by his primary totems of stag, hound, raven and snow goose. Old Hornie is the fearsomely rough, strange god who rides out a-hunting during the paradoxical periods of ritual reversal, the ‘time between the times’. The Horned One's eerie pack, white of coat and red of ear, are called Yell Hounds - a worn-down form of the term ‘Gabriel Hounds’; it is significant in this respect that in mediaeval funeral processions the bier was called ‘St.Gabriel’s Wain’. Here the archangel with his trumpet has assimilated the heathen archetype of the god of the Furious Host who winds his horn to summon the spirits of the dead.
    >There are also certain ancient trackways along which the spirit host would continually manifest to pursue their hunt at particular times, which were sometimes denoted as ‘Woden’s way’ in Saxon England, In Holland and Germany these spirit-tracks are called Doodwegen (Death-roads’) and Geisterwegen (‘Ghost-roads’). Likewise on stormy nights on Dartmoor the Midnight Hunter and his Wish hounds would run on the track known as the Abbot’s Way which leads towards Cornwall.
    >On Candlemas the serpent emerges from the earth and the Queen comes from the mound. The Wild Hunt is seen, led by Herne, returning to the lower world after winter. The golden-haired Bride or Olwen is invoked to enter the house this night. The symbols of Candlemas are the sacred flame, the rowan, the cow and ewe, the hedgehog and rock crystal, the ‘guiding star of Bride’.

what's retarded is it became a forced meme. They make shit threads where you can tell from the style of the initial AI image that the thread was made for them to do the meme. And that's why they've failed to make the meme likable. Instead of just being for killing shit threads like this one, it's another type of shit thread being made.

    Neither of those things.
A game should commit to the idea, if magic is inherent to a majority of creatures and materials, there shouldn't be any fully mundane creatures or materials; if not magical, then some kind of other kind of power acting as an equalizer.
Ancient humans conquered tigers because we can commune, build, plot, and throw really hard as an equalizer. If magic's only equalizer is other magic, the mundane cannot exist - those refusing to use it go extinct in a living world that isn't just sacred cows reimagined from 70s - 80s literature and film pop culture.
Otherwise, magic must be rare and unknown, and there must be limitations on both player options and encounters available for the GM to use.

More overt offensive spells should be limited and most spells remain useful forms of utility.

That said, having the ability to blast someone in the face with magic should be an option but your primary means of blasting should be with a gun.

Why did you put a class named Wizard in the game if you didn't want there to be a class in the game that only uses magic? You could have put a class in the game called Gun Guy That Very Occasionally Casts Spells, But Not Too Often Because Then The Game Might Be Fun, instead, if that's what you wanted to do.
    >>
    >>98890840
All player facing magic should be long-ass rituals or single-use consumable items.

    >>98903844
Wizard isn't named "Guy That Only Does Magic And Nothing Else, And Can't Do Other Things That Don't Involve Casting Magic" either
