>>98886161>What sort of wish-fulfillment do you include in your games?Blatant self-insert power fantasy where I have a harem of wives, of course.>I ain't gonna judge.Wouldn't matter if you did. That's why we play solo (Better) games.
I've got the Witcher rpg in the mail, third printing so its got the FAQ and Errata content.Anyone played it?
>>98886161My favorite is destruction. As a kid I imagined having super strength or telekinesis and throwing around objects. It's fun to be a mech and wreck havoc too.
>>98886742What is even fun about this? like "woah im hecckin powerful and just get whatever i want super easily" ok then what? you just never like have too try or actually do anything? why even bother playing when you can just sit there and imagine yourself winning.
Do any of you have any 'White Whale' games you'd want to run solo, but don't know how?I know that mysteries and the ways Anons used to approximate them used to get brought up fairly often.I have this odd want to solo a game based off of game shows, Big Brother, Survivor, Total Drama Island, setups where skill checks and social play need to be kept straight. The only way I could imagine doing it is to go full GM and just emulate all the contestants with triple-o or something.I've felt similar problems when I wondered how I'd solo a battle royal styled game ala Hunger Games, or a socal deduction game like Werewolf or Danganronpa. What impossible games would you like to find a way to play /srpgg/?
>>98887315>imagine yourself winning.Modern men are so cucked they can't even fantasize about themselves winning...But in all seriousness, whenever I start a campaign I like to front-end my challenges and difficulty curve so that I don't start automatically winning. In fact, most of the time my characters die within the first few sessions. But whenever one *does* manage to break through and start to make headway, I like to reward them. Gradually the challenges transform from "Can my level 1 warrior overcome the skeletons in this dungeon" to later "The king has given my level 5 warrior an important task. I am confident he can do it, but what resources do I want to expend to get the job done?" And then if I'm very lucky the campaign usually ends somewhere in the "I am now lord of this region. I have amassed power and wealth, but what do I want to do with it?"There actually is some merit to playing out the power fantasy every now and then. It's sort of like the difference between playing an old, grindy roguelike where you have to frequently reset VS playing an action RPG that gives you lots of powers and abilities. And don't forget that at any time you can adjust the power level. Whenever you get bored or don't feel challenged enough, you could just say, "AND THEN A DRAGON ATTACKS!" I personally like to use very infrequent clocks for danger. So, most of the game is chill and just one main character amassing power, but then occasionally facing a "Boss" monster or enemy that truly challenges him to test his progress. (I'll never forget the game where I thought my character and his companions were unstoppable, when suddenly I encountered an evil scientist who had his own harem of lovely plant-themed ladies. They absolutely mopped the floor with us and ended my campaign.)
While I don't approve of using AI to GM, I have to say, creating prompts/bullet points of what's going on in my game then telling it to build it out into a full script is very satisfying. It feels very director ideas guy tier.
>>98887315NTA, but the rules give my inevitable victory a structure and coherent, storylike format that makes it feel more tangible. I don't even play an overpowered character, just "myself" at my theoretical best, and the fact that it's a game gives me more "time" to react to developments and strategize than real life. Plus, I can afford to make riskier plays for higher rewards than IRL because it's not real.
>>98882756I haven't played Shadowrun though from what I can see they're pretty much the same. Biggest difference I can see (as dar as I can tell) is in Cyberpunk Red there's a collapse of the usual economy and logistics so you can't get stuff out your lifestyles range unless you use a fixer or go to a night market. Hasn't come up much for me yet though. >>98888297Yeah I get this too. My favourite run in a solo game I started with a character being an apprentice kid on a pirate ship, and I made it as explicitly hard as possible to do some things. As I got more powerful, my character got older as well and got more resources and reponsibilities. From "Go fetch this from this island jungle" to "take these crew memebers and rescue this hostage" to "take command of a ship in the fleet". Its very satisfying. And yeah, if it gets boring theres never anything stopping you from derailing a plot and having a crisis
Imagine playing this SOCIAL activity alone.lol. That's it, not even an lmao
>>98886161I was having a fuck around with ChatGPT and it hit me with this. Apparently my deepest, darkest fantasy... is to be able to live my own life. I wish I could say that it's wrong.
>>98887315>self-insert power fantasydoesn’t mean you don’t roll dice or that you can’t die.
>>98886161>TQ: What sort of wish-fulfillment do you include in your games? I ain't gonna judge.being able to talk to people
>>98893117It's not easy at first but like most skills it gets easier the more you do it.I don't know if solo rpgs are a good way to practice it though.
>>98886161>TQ: What sort of wish-fulfillment do you include in your games? players who actually show up kek
>>98886161Ugh, I have a really hard time landing on a character, but I think I got it. "A conflicted swashbuckler-priest. He loves dueling, women, and intrigue, but he feels guilty when the calm comes. He finds praying, learning, and comforting the dying fulfilling, but eventually becomes restless when the quite is too long". A full on Aramis from the 3 musketeers.I am using Scarlet Heroes so for his traits I think I will take a line from Billy Joel>LAUGHS WITH THE SINNERS (3): For Dueling maneuvers, Womanizing, Drinking, and courtly intrigue>CRIES WITH THE SAINTS (2): For Resisting temptations, healing, Making sense of old and ancient texts, and consoling the dying and distraught.Hopefully those two ideas actually stick with me.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Crif5E67ar0
>>98886161>wish-fulfillmentUse it as an excuse to wax lyrical about thematic elements I find interesting.>I wrote about how Horse men and Werewolves take the thematic elements of their respective mundane animal to the extreme, freedom and predation respectively, but they both show a shared nurture to their own particular flock>I wrote about how some ancient noble ruins contrasted significantly with the crude goblin inhabitants currently living there and mused about the preservation of the past verses the needs and wants of the present.>I wrote about how an illegal slavers guild was oddly organized and effective and mused that its very extra-legal nature actually habituated it to be a very lean, well run and orderly operation due to all the slim margins and avoiding of the law it had to do.I guess its a good excuse to be a discount philosopher.
>>98897179>>98886161I also used it to simulate dates. For some reason I have had a thing with evil priestesses. I spared one during a raider on a slavers den, a dark skinned blue eyed bombshell, and the other one I bonded with over our shared interests in the finer points of theology and belief in general. We then proceeded to defend each other from incoming attacks due to our mutual respect. then we had a playful session where we cheekily critiqued a few aspects of each other's particular rituals (I found her mass to be a tad idolatrous for my liking but undeniably beautiful and she found my last rights a bit abstract, but uplifting). That second one was a silver furred jackal lady.
>>98887217So that's a no, huh?
>>98897323I haven’t played it anon. what do you like about it? or what are you looking forward to?
>>98897494>what do you like about it?Haven't got it yet, it's expected to arrive tomorrow though.>what are you looking forward to?I'm reading through the books for the first time, and really enjoying them. I'm looking forward to (hopefully) winding narratives with monsters and humans intermingled.
>>98897179>organised crime>slim margins
>>98897246Based Mystara enjoyer. I like it as a sandbox too.
Do your guys solo sessions have enough content to last very long?
>>98901827What do you mean? With an oracle, random tables, etc., content is limitless. And that's not even getting into soloing published modules, of which there are infinite free ones available online.
Hey anons, I got my copy of The Witcher today, but I won't be able to read it until tomorrow. On the topic of The Witcher, does anyone have any Witcher-adjacent assets? Oracles, Tables for creating events or generating loot, so on and so forth.
I've been playing a Starforged game about a mystical scifi monk whose temple was destroyed by Firestorm Raiders. Now he wanders the Forge, protecting innocent folk from the Raiders, Scrap Bandits, and other terrors. Recently, he has been dealing with a warlord who has banded together a number of Wardens, trying to conquer a set of subsectors.(Essentially he is a Jedi fighting against 40k Space Marines)
>>98902108Are you able to play for hours with just oracles and questions? I had the thought to seek out a setting with lore but I think it could be cheaper and easier to oracle it up myself. Wouldn't it take a while to flesh out a setting that way? I'm still learning about this.
>>98904010>Are you able to play for hours>Wouldn't it take a whileGetting mixed messages here. You can play indefinitely the same way you can when GMing a group. Oracles and inspiration tables help you generate ideas, particularly ones you wouldn't have thought of otherwise.>I'm still learning about this.Play something short. Simple one-shot adventures to get used to solo play. Don't expect to keep or re-use anything so there's little pressure to make it good or coherent. If you have GMing experience make use of it. Run a solo game as much like that as seems practical. If you only have player experience play something familiar and practise creating shit and running the game.If you don't have either then I'd suggest a simpler board game like game such as 4 Against Darkness where you can just follow the rules and not get stuck if you don't feel creative. Put some effort into adding background details and work your way up from there.
>>98901027Yah, I want to better flesh out my character. I think I want him to struggle with the the pull of carnality in the hunt and spirituality in confession. Going from savoring the blood of battle one minute to the sanctification of the soul the next, and how to reconcile this in a cycle of passion and reflection.Maybe that is a bit too thematic for a solo rpg, idk, but I often get caught up in thinking about larger themes.
