Where fantasy and some amount of stakes are mixed with chill and down-to-earth vibes.
>>98880919Can you name at least three examples?
>>98880919>730x407the backgrounds just leaked, cant you try a little bit harder?
>>98880919The waterfall in the picture looks like the Irworobongdo.Doesn't look particularly comfy to me.
fantasy settings are not comfy unless you include a race of short, fluffy and funny animal people (that live in a constant futile struggle to be taken seriously)
>>98880932First ones that come to mind are SU, Bug Fables and that post apocalypse setting by Luke Humphris. Was hoping to get recs for more.
>>98880974ntaYou might like >Ultraviolet Grasslands Strange looking twee characters roadtrip through mobius inspired places. The game system itself is a bit of a mess but an interesting look at point crawls and caravans.
The Cloud Empress setting is another >what if post post apocalyptic things were nicer sort of setting with a nausica sort of inspiration. Not a fan of Mothership as a system but most of what you're talking about is vibes more than the game itself.
>>98881096>>98881108Not too familiar with Mobius but I sure liked Nausica. I'll check those out. Thankdn
and if you have to do some sort of british hobbet romantic pastoralism thing there's Under Hill, By Water. I do not want to run or play this but its got another flavour of pleasant nothings to be comfy about.
>>98881116np There's a bunch of these sorts of things in the indie game area. You might also like Ryuutama. Similar low stakes travel adventure, very structured in story game ways but some people like that. There's another newish anime inspired one called Break! or something like it, haven't' looked at it yet. Or the ancient /tg/ game CATastrophe about cat girls in an aquatic apocalypse.
>>98881139Oh yeah, Break has great art and vibe. Dunno about hiw good the system is but it makes me want me to get the rulebook just for how nice it looks.
>>98880919The Quiet Year
Comfy/Cozy seems more like an art aesthetic suited for instagram to trigger shallow good-feelings. un-challenging.
>>98881190At this point I don't really advise anyone go straight out and buy anything, which is sort of too bad but part of how the publishing industry has had to become. Take a look for it in the share thread, see if its a thing you actually want and if it is go back and pay for it as directly to the maker as possible. Like actually go back and give them money. Its like an upgraded version of the shopping cart return meme. Can you go back and pay for something you've already pirated a copy of because you value it?
Why is this guy unironically doing the "fun is a buzzword" thing?
>"what do we think">Steven Universe imageI think you're a faggot who deserves nothing.
>>98881564huh?
>>98880919I adore cozy settings with low-but-still-present stakes. I draw most of my inspiration for the region my group plays in (called "The Green Vale") on various sources, with the biggest threat being goblins (which are more like Labyrinth goblins, very fey-aligned). Party is about to head to the nearby "big city" (Bendford) looking for some more medicine (and one player is looking to get some seeds for their garden which got tore up by some giant ants recently).
>>98880919I think COMFY is anathema to adventure.
>>98880919>What do we think of comfy fantasy settingsI think fantasy adventuring but comfy is the blandest form of contemporary setting design; if you want to play in one you may just play stardew valley by yourself. Literally blue haired, dogmom tier shitcomfy should be the exception in an adventure, a single case of peaceful or low-stakes occurrence in between hardship and high octane adventuring (think of Bilbo and the Thorin company visiting Beorn's homestead in between Mirkwood and the Lonely Mountain)>>98881818this fa/tg/uy gets it
>>98881108>sort of setting with a nausica sort of inspirationNausicaa is many things, but "nice" is not one of them, execpt for some small portions of itThat being said sounds dope, I'll check it out>>98882004Eh, I dunno tough. The One Ring, to stay in your area, has a whole book about comfy hobbit adventures, and they sound dope. That being said what people take for cozy settings... tend to follow Tolkien's example, really: comfy intersped with danger.
>>98880966Based zhao poster
>>98880919Ehh…I just usually don’t see most fantasy settings as “comfy”. There’s a few sci-fi settings I would describe as “comfy” to me personally. Star Trek and Star Wars specifically. But that’s just me.
>>98880919Reddit softboy shit.
>>98880919Games need conflict, comfy means less hardship, so I don't really see the point.
>>98880932Pretty much all Zelda gamesJak & DaxterBanzo Kazooie?Ratchet & Clank? First half of Final Fantasy X, most of Final Fantasy X-2
>>98881139>>98881190Break!! is, and I say this without any hyperbole, a tumblr porn artist's attempt to make a weeaboo OSR game.
>>98884505sir this is /tg/>>98882370does any of those hobbit adventures take place outside a safe area like the Shire or Breeland?
>>98884529Did it work?
>>98881125The way that blurb just PRESUMES that Tolkien is somehow the origin of all fantasy has me actively planning to destroy and sterilize Earth such that nothing will ever grow here again. Black holes will evaporate and protons will decay and yet still the smitten cinder that was once Earth will drift an eternal tombstone and warning.
>>98881818>t. doesnt want to become a pokemon masterYour loss queer
>>98883844>Games need conflictThe narrative does not however. I'll take a comfy quest exploring the lost ruins of an ancient civilization battling monsters and forsaken robots over edgelord storyfag bullshit with "muh antagonists" and "muh stakes" and "muh BBEG" any day of the year.
>>98885355The world of the pokeman is not comfy. There's pokemen that are the literal souls of dead children. That's not even the new games, thats the original 150 shit.
>>98885381>The world of the pokeman is not comfy.
>>98885013Try atomising yourself so we can't stop reading your cuck seething about Tolkien in every single thread.
>>98882370>but "nice" is not one of them,Its fundamentally a bright and hopeful setting where people who care can make a positive difference. The world itself has healed after what humans got up to. Its much nicer than many post apocalyptic settings. Bad shit still happens, but OP wasn't asking for all good things all the time, they wanted stakes mixed with chill and down to earth vibes.
>>98885993I beg to differ. The manga ending is VERY ambigous as the human race could even survive the "purification" process, and her solution too. It's not grimnderp and humans are... humans, but the is no light at the other end of the tunnel.>>98884710No. Also, Breeland is not safe in TOR, and rightly so.
>>98886927Its about the continuation of life on earth and that being hopeful rather than human specific. Many find that sort of hippy gia stuff comforting. ymmv.
>>98884710>hobbit adventuresSir, this is /tg/.
>>98885355Pokemon is gay
>>98880932Trails FC and SC. Most of Final Fantasy 9.
>>98894120>Most of Final Fantasy 9.>Game where no less than 3 nations get nuked to fuck >where the overall hanging theme is the inevitability of deathYou haven't played that in recent memory have you. Also fuck Trails.
>>98885653>Try atomising yourself so we can't stop reading your cuck seething about Tolkien in every single thread.
>>98880919So like FATAL?
>>98887376Continuation which is left hanging, at least for humans
