What model is this?
>TQMost likely impossible really or I am just not smart enough to think of something.>but For me this would be positive change off the top of my head:Retcon the "galaxy edge regions" like the ghoul stars and halo starzones etc. to be much larger regions than they are to act as "truly unknown regions" compared to the areas of the galaxy. We'll say that the Imperium of Man never got that far, and they'll be the "chaos wastes space" of Warhammer 40k. With "eyes of the storm" here and there. An even more "I do what I want" but without warp stuff.

>>98875341Not bad for a first model. Varnish to "archive" it as you progress in this miniature painting hobby. In the future I'd recommend some weathering to the vehicles. Knights included. Here's a good one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WGVj6IEyj_E9:02 is when the weathering starts in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Az84Qs0cn5UGenerally a piece of sponge will be very helpful in creating chipping effects if one wants to solely stick with acrylics for weathering vehicles. This might help a lot even if it isn't about weathering. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SqOdqeiUxg4Duncan Rhodes' tutorials are really good. Even when he's shilling his paints.

>>98875352 (me)One more thing. I just remembered. Watering down a rusty orange brown color to an "orange milk" consistency then watering it a little more can make it into a good "rust wash" if you want to avoid rust effect paints on a budget. There's probably more for me to remember, but I'm tired right now.

I've been trying to come up with a decent Sisters color scheme but they just don't look good if you stray too far from the default colors. Pretty much every alternate color scheme you see online is just black armor with a different colored robe.
I feel like the reason GW prices are always so outrageous is because it is a peak boomer company. Basically the "I know what I got" seller mentality boomers have whenever they go to swap meets.
>>98875461Pick an atypical colored black. A blue black or a green black. Personally I think doing bloody rose with like a dark wine red color looks great.

>>98875591>he bought the $60 mini holder
>>98875593I paid like $8 Iirc. I like being able to spin the model when gripping it.
>>98875593NTA but I've done worse so I can't judge people for buying the GW handle. The older one looks better though. I bought the gameenvy hobby holder without the "bar handle" part. It wasn't for me, but the idea of bottlecap based painting handles is pretty novel to me. There's already Chinese copies on aliexpress now, some on Amazon. But I don't know if the modular part will work as pieces may break sooner. Hopefully there will be a good copy of the original Citadel painting handle for those who missed out on them.
>>98875600I own both and I honestly prefer the slim design of the new one.
uhhhh, so you aren't supposed to just hold your model with your fingers?
>>98875604You can hold the model with your fingers. There are just handles meant to make the process better around the concept of ergonomics. You can use sticky tack and a cork from a wine bottle as an easy DIY handle if you want. For many that's enough.
>>98875600You mean these? One of my LGSs is selling 3d printed versions but the clamp is achieved with shitty rubber bands. I'm glad I managed to get a few of these before they discontinued them in favor of the new skinny ones. I really don't like the grip profile on the new ones.
>>98875586Sounds too fun and interesting for James Workshop or any of the hacks at BL to not fuck up. I remember that one interview where ADB was seething over sons of Horus warbands that don't want to follow Abaddon or join the Black Legion which is why there isn't much lore on the Wolves of Horus or True sons.
>>98875620>You mean these?Yeah I mean those. I had a phase of trying out different handles then ended up settling on a DIY one. Was pretty dumb looking back that all the money spent when the materials were always here. I did buy some grip tape for the handles later. But it was fine before those.>One of my LGSs is selling 3d printed versions but the clamp is achieved with shitty rubber bands. Pretty smart of them too if I'm being honest.
>>98875593I made my own with a spring and a old plastic card
>>98875604I mean you can grip it from the base or even the model itself while painting if you know what you're doing, the handles and stuff mostly exist for ergonomics. I used to just stick some blue tac on a wine cork and put minis on that while I painted before I just stopped giving a fuck and held them by the base.

>>98875313> TQNecrons and Tyranids are both empire-ending threats that can realistically defeat the Imperium. They are both happening at the same time.Way back in 30k we had the Rangdan Xenocides which were similarly catastrophic. I like the idea that the Imperium has regularly been dealing with apocalyptic threats and while Nids/Crons are nasty, they're ultimately no worse than any of the other massive xenos forces that the imperium has to deal with every few centuries. There should be a long history of defeated xenos mega-threats and the imperium is still standing.

I know Militarum Tempestus was never a proper army but how would you go about recreating this in 11E? Both Valkyries and Taurox Primes look to be on the shit list.Obviously start with spamming Scions, Aquilons and Command Squads, which should be good for 1000pts. I don't trust either of the traditional MT transports to stick around after 11E, but maybe Centaurs and Chimeras are a decent alternative? Any other units that fit the theme?

>>98875999I think some other anons and me got into talking about how Scions jumping out of a Taurox Prime with the Mechanized Assault detachment (the one that gives +1 to wound to ranged attacks the turn you jump out of a transport) as actually having some legs. You can stick a couple of Scions Squads in a T Prime so when they jump out you're re-rolling hits, + 1 to wound, re-rolling wounds of 1 (full re-rolls on obj). There's also a strat that give full hit and wound re-rolls when an infantry unit jumps out of a transport. A strat that lets you jump back in if you get charged, Strat for moving as disembarking, enhancement to be able to advance a transport and still disembark. Its pretty good. The funniest thing I found was taking a Stormlord, sticking a Scion brick (10+5 command squad+character)+ another brick of your choice (infantry or even heavy weapons squads) plus an enginseer somewhere, and using that as an anvil or hammer. What does a Stormlord do for the army? It lets one of your bricks embark back into it during the end of your ops movement phase. Not fight phase engaged. End of movement. Send out one of your bricks, pop full reroll Strat, point at something, kill it, hop back in transport before the squishy infantry is killed, and do it all again next turn while your opponent struggles to kill T13, 2+ (with a 4++ if you have an engineseer which you damn well should) 24W giga tank. Add some support to that brick with a tank officer and a Leman Executioner for +1 ap and just mulch things.

The perception of motion (albeit frozen in a photo, miniature, painting, paused video frame, or whatever) is partially in the shape and posing of things which is on the sculpt rather than the paintjob, and partial in motion blur which probably won't work very well to paint on when the actual shape of the mini itself remains stubbornly un-blurred.

>>98876475Aren't modern GW store small as shit, with no real table space to play?
>>98876440resin dust/smoke plumes can suggest movement. flowing cloaks. exaggerated poses. not something you can really paint from nothing, though.
>>98876479I’ve tried pic related a few times, but the coverage has been generally horrible. the vallejo ones blow it out of the water.
>>98875463I think a lot of the price is from the products actually being made in england and not being made wherever would be cheapest.
>>98876480Yeah, the vast majority of GW stores are tiny, out of the way, one man operations intended simply to keep the brand awareness up and provide access to kids in places where independent stores aren't thriving. best case for GW is the store does well, an independent store pops up, and GW can close their own.
>>98876483I imagine any hobby brand metallic produced in the last 20 years would be similarly impressive.
>>98876440That's definitely a challenge. You could try establishing gradients that all work towards the direction of movement, like painting one facing brighter and warmer, while the back darker and colder; additional things could be making only the frontal part with well detailed and neat highlights while the back's highlights are messy to give the impression it's "blurry" somehow. And also I guess you could do highlights in a more stylised way, like only painting lines that go in the direction of movement, instead of transverse ones.
>>98876485Manufacturing is a small part of their overall product cost. Shipping and warehousing costs more. If they outsourced the printing of physical plastic to China they'd still have to do design and tooling in the UK, and move all the product back to the Europe which is the biggest market just ahead of North America. The savings would be tiny and require years of costly restructuring to have any positive impact.Their net margins are enormous regardless. English labour isn't keeping the price tag high, they sell profitably to independent stores at 60% off RRP.
>>98876494would it work? doubt it, but you could try
>>98876500Yeah, fair enough
>>98876440I don’t think its possible to paint, but as much as I generally hate tactical rocks, having the model half way over one would sell the speed because the mind would fill in how they’re already on the rock, and how they’re going to fall off. pic related is an exaggerated example, but it gives a good idea of what it should look like.
>>98876479GW, AK, AP, some $$$ wax based ones, and golden Vallejo air is by far the best
>>98876485>>98876500I'm sure that a lot of GW products and the models themself are being made in china or asia. Why I say that? mostly because recast I've bought randomly send me GW plastic along to the resin copies. They usually have some form of miscast, but not always. I suppose GW is getting over the Made in the UK issue with some of the assembly of the product being done in the UK
>>98876518Anon, I appreciate your input but this is too garbled a message to understand
>>98876518The only things that are made in china are printed cardstock. Plastic and paints are all UK. They're a public company they can't lie about where their factories are without some opportunistic shareholders/lawyers suing them.

>>98876480I live right in New York City, the biggest city in the entire United States with the overall highest population density in the country. Roughly 8.5 million people live across the 5 boroughs, with another 10+ million commuting from Long Island, Westchester, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and so on.The only official Games Workshop store within a 25 mile radius of the city is located in downtown Manhattan in Greenwich Village, is maybe about 500 square feet in size, has a single table in the back to play games on, and barely has room to stock anything (They typically only usually have new releases and things that are typically faction staples like batleline and combat patrols). Again, biggest city in the country mind you. Meanwhile when I went to Amsterdam last year I popped by a GW store there and it was like three times the size and was fully stocked.

>>98876548Some times I wonder if gringos have some underground campaign against wargame places. Even my third world country with similar or higher rent/taxes for a store, have bigger spaces with multiple tables going from 4 to 20 tables.Fucking cafes have tables where people play Battlefleet gothic, meanwhile single bed room size stores that do not have space for a table inside manage to break up deals with the mall/center/building to have a space for the tables somewhere. And we are not particularly rich, our riches 10% earns less than the minimum wage of the gringos and we have first world prices for everything

>>98876548>I live in the most densely packed city in the US>where every square foot of space comes at a significant premium>why is the plastic crack store not biggerGee, I wonder
>>98876575There's plenty of Gaming Cafes in the city, including one a few blocks away from the GW. The problem is that they mostly cater to the casual boardgame crowd that wants to play Wingspan and Catan, the TCG crowd (Mostly MTG) and very slightly the D&D crowd. The tables for these cafes tend to be too small for Wargames, though they're fine for skirmish games (I've seen people playing Killteam here before). Not to mention that because of the above tables are scarce, and they put a 3 hour limit on your table on the weekends. You're right though that a lack of a dedicated Wargaming spot is kind of absurd when there's all sorts of shit popping up in the city each week.
>>98876545No, and why would people give a shit about damaging the UK economy if it meant a quick buck? The current US Secretary of the Treasury was celebrated for doing exactly that in 1992.

Meanwhile here's the interior of the GW I stopped at in Amsterdam. Plenty of table space for games and hobbying, window space to show off models and dioramas, and an actually fully stocked store.

>>98876626No, they're like double the size of a regular chapter.
Space Wolves would be so much better if they toned down the animism and focused on a more Norse angle. You can have them be the rascally rebels to a point, but now they're in full-blown heretic mode and have been for years. Fenris ought to be blown out of the sky.
>>98876636so 2000 marines. point still stands
>>98876648even standard chapters are more than that number, let alone famously codex non-compliant space wolves with their "great companies". 10x10x10 battle brothers is not a meaningful count of marines strength, it doesn't include most of the actual army.
>>98876640>Space Wolves would be so much better if they toned down the animism and focused on a more Norse angleThey tried that in HH and they're still cringe. I think they're just unsalvageable at this point, if they ever were salvageable. Really I think the crux of the issue is the Viking Space Marines should've always been Chaos to start with. You have a chapter inspired by seafaring raiders that neither travel nor raid, they just squat on their snow world and jack off to wolves. It's a similar problem I have with White Scars. They should be a nomadic, fleet-based chapter that roams the imperium and assaults enemy worlds rather than just squatting on Space Mongolia being irrelevant. Or at least do something cool with them being semi-nomadic and spread between multiple worlds or something.

Did the scaling of Imperial Guard change at all, or are GW's Heroic scale humans really 32mm? >>98876842>>98877981GW is a British Publicly Traded Company (PLC). There is no “pride”. It’s all corporate. Americans already own 30% of GW. For someone to own GW, they would have to buy the shares of everyone who currently owns it. It’s expensive and it’s a bitch to do unless you’re Amazon, Disney, Tencent, or Saudi Arabian
The time to acquire GW/40k would have been pre-primaris when the company was struggling. The shares are up like 8000% in 10 years.
>>98878014When did they started calling it hot shot? The first version of storm troopers and inquisitorial storm troopers both had hellguns.
>>98878010This. RIP GW lorelets.
>>98878017>Injection molding is garage level of tech now. It has been for almost two decades now.Have you seen gunpla, anon? Injection molding tech is amazing when done right. GW did not do that right. We aren't seeing miniature pieces that lock together with truly no plastic or super glue needed. And GW certainly isn't gonna make sprues where no clippers are required to nicely snap them off.
>>98878034>When did they started calling it hot shot?2nd edition. But then stormtroopers just had regular lasguns with hot-shot power packs. In 3e they got hellguns. In 5e they became hot-shot lasguns but hellgun stayed as well.
>>98876842American companies buy up British ones because they're comparatively cheap ways to buy access to markets, ip and patents. The problem with GW is their stock has been on a massive up swing until recently and nobody really knows how to actually value it's market cap. In short nobody knows if they're getting a good deal or not, which makes an aquisition risky.

You can still collect and field regimental stormies if you like, but hating on scions is such a terminally online take. And is the general rule of thumb nowadays for making custom Stormtroopers is to have them have those "laser wire belts" for their guns so they can easily be "read" as stormtrooper units?
>>98878483>You said that before Scions people just had metal KasrkinsThis was never said, you need to learn how to actually read. >>98878549>What people choose is different from what options they have available to themI get that, but my argument very specifically was about what people chose. I can't blame them either, if you're faced with the options of>paint kasrkin/inq stormtroopers in own coloursOr>figure out how to kitbash/convert yourdudes in carapace armour with hellgunsI know which I'd choose. I actually really like these tone pro paints, base coating models is a breeze. They definitely made enough that I think they’re planning on people replacing their old paints. One half of the paint rack is the new paints and the old line got downsized. The whole dry brush paint line was in the soon to be gone section of the GW store.
>>98878826Don’t you think it be better for the thread if we just got along instead of you continuing to create division and constantly insult people here?
Quite a lot of things to do before it's fully complete, but getting there to be collage ready.
any real ass niggas here?
>>98878857Awesome models nice job

i hate that fake ass nigga lorgar. id beat the fuck outta dat bald ass nigga
>>98878850the problem is you can never naturally get along with anybody. every single modelposter who has at one point tried to defend you or help you has eventually chosen to begin disliking you to the point there’s an entire collage of modelposters who made dioramas to spite your faction. and it isn’t because certain anons slander you either, there’s plenty of other anons who’ve been justly or unjustly hated like sallyfag, ratfag, and I like orks :D poster, and marines malevolent slopper who still got some, or even most anons to openly like them. you’re the only one who seemingly gets hated on universally.

>>98878705>but who really cares about iron hands and white scarsI doWish I had remembered to check on the collage theme for the month before I worked on this guy, maybe next month. Very happy at least with how this turned out, two to go>>98878203Always love seeing your work
>>98878988That won't work. Decalfag also seems to just stay here. He's our modern Iron Tard except instead of always going to threads that mock the Iron Warriors, he stays in this general. https://archive.4plebs.org/tg/thread/98246819/#q98283912

Iron Tard even has the bitterness of the Iron Warriors. https://archive.4plebs.org/tg/thread/75354254/#75354702
>>98878974>Is it for the best that the Iron Hands aren't given that much attention? Same for Raven Guard? For now, I guess it’s for the best. The Iron Hands are doing this Iron Crusade thing currently. The Raven Guard are preparing to defend their homeworld against an upcoming waagh. None of this is relevant to M42 stuff. All of that lore was years ago and I don’t think there hasn’t been any updates since>What are some particular examples of successor chapters having a radically different culture, customs, combat doctrines etc.On the top of my head: Black Templars, Exorcists, Mortifactors
you know, i kinda wish that GW spent a lil bit on the bases plastic and just had a slot for magnets on the bottom. If archon can manage to have slots that hold on friction alone surely they could too right

Well, after glancing at the essen GD winners what I've learned is that GW is DESPERATE to sell votann.
>>98881388genuinely a waste of plastic, as are genestealers.GW are already spreading themselves thin with army ranges and now we have this rumour of dark admech as ANOTHER faction.

>>98881343There are plenty of fanfic about it
>>98881343That'd be okay, actually. Many legions went traitor (or stayed loyal) because they followed what their Primarch chose.Isolated from the Primarch, you could have loyalists from traitor legions and vice versa.I mean, every post-heresy traitor is from a loyalist geneseed after all.
>>98881500Probably why the red corsairs have grown in huge numbers, the appeal of being a free agent doing whatever you want while not as committed to chaos as the black legion.
>>98881306bro the DEI granny?
>>98881512> some human female ship bitchAngron also has a ship hoe, this isnt new
>TQI dont know if it would be "adding" something but I think for more enjoyment on tabletop and for things that could happen in lore, the horus heresy should have shattered the imperium entirely. You could still have empires like ultramar and maybe others centered around home worlds of the other legions. With this you could justify more conflicts between what would have been allies at one point, and if push comes to shove it isn't impossible for them to work together temporarily. This would make the humans not nearly as strong as they currently are, and would allow smaller empires from other species have more strength on a galactic scale. You could then do fun things with this like have some sort of varangian guard offshoot of the spacewolves that act as bodyguards for like an eldar farseer or a tau ethereal or something like that. Skys the limit.
There’s really no escaping the goyim cycle huh. This is it.
