So what are your thoughts/verdict regarding the latest Arcane Journal, now that it has been leaked?

I can't bring myself to care about campaign books that explore only 1/10th of a campaign or rulesbloats that try to pass for content while they're actually paid patches

no offense I think the gargantuan treeman unit is supposed to be represented with the plastic treeman thats now sold for AoS

I personally believe this just brcause they have the root eruption ranged weapon, which is clearly meant to be this thing the plastic kit has?
granted, he'll look very small on a 100x150mm

>>
>>98867782
They're waaaaaay too small for that.
>>
>>98868161
Why would you want naked skeletons?
>>
>>98868175
Nobody does it but light armor is a 1pt upgrade option so you can technically go without it.
>>
>>98868115
I've never actually read anything of the end times, mostly just quick tidbits from people talking about it but I have the general idea of what happens, I would already assume anything end times related is dogshit
>>
>>98868187
So, it's a non-issue.
>>
>>98868175
You can do more with army building flavor (and rules) wise if you have more options on how you build your guys. Tomb Kings are generations of Kings after all, it’d make sense if they were in various states. If those options are available in the box, it simply just makes it more convenient, that’s all. Also the classic naked Skeleton enemy in rpgs appeals to me on a base level.
>>
>>98868211
Its funny too, it used to be the opposite. The old skeletons were unarmored, but everyone took light armor, so it never made sense. Much prefer the models to reflect the most common choice.
>>
>>98868220
Tomb Kings aren't space marines. They will never get 10 versions of the same basic kits.
Besides, are you ready to pay 30% more per box just to get additional sprues for chaff units, 90% of which you will never use?
>>
>>98868249
>They will never get 10 versions of the same basic kits.
Presumably that is exactly why anon wants naked skellies, to make that shit himself.
>>
>>98868321
He has a million third part options if he wants to do that.
>>
>>98868249
I don’t remember ever asking for 10 versions of the same basic kits, I was just hoping for more options in the new box.

This is my idea for my Warhammer RPG character:
A clever former lowly scribe of the knightly order of the Everlasting Light. He uncovered a plot at some time and an old knight took interest in him because of it, teaching him the way of the sword. The character was so grateful to the old man that he made a solemn oath to also foster hidden talent and give second chances when he can (and of course advancing monetarily and station wise along the way). Of course, this being Warhammer, a lot of those "No we should spare the cultist!" impulses will come to no doubt bite him in the butt. Who knows, maybe he will even give his own order a second chance and redeem them of their curse of bad luck? Or maybe he will be one of any number of casualties of that singularly morbid curse....

I got the inspiration in part from the Reiksgaurd Book which was a surprisingly really good read compared to most warhammer one offs. I would even compare it favorably to the Darkblade saga. Most fighters fight competently and the combat is really well written, there is a nice degree of drama and politiking in the background, and it has the perfect mix of noble bright to grim dark that makes me like the Warhammer fantasy setting.
The one thing about it is that the characters and situations are interesting, but it doesnt make the Rieksgaurd as a particular order all that individually notable. The exploration of Order structures in super neat, but it could apply to any order really.

what d you think?

>No need for heartbreak, just don't read the fucking atrocious End Times tie-in "finale" books.
Those last End Time Gotrek and Felix novels were some of the most disgusting and insulting endings to a series I've ever read. Took all the dumb fun and made it a cynical bloated pile of trash that didn't even bother to give a good send off to any character we've spent a dozen novels with
I feel the author even had a small moment of rebellion when Felix saw a vision of an alternate timeline where both him and Gotrek are standing with dwarves defending Karaz-a-Karak against Thanquol and a skaven army was the actual finale we should've gotten, but GW forced the trash End Times version instead.
Been years and I'm still pissed about it

Good book, but I agree, as the book describes it joining the Reiksguard is almost as much of a political appointment for a young noble as it is a military one, so it wouldn't work if you want to play an ex-scribe with a bleeding-heart mentality to give others a second chance. Any other Order would be fine, tho.

Reading the 6e Vampire Counts army book and I am very tempted to start a Blood Dragon or Stirgori focused army. Despite Counts being Legacy or Legends or whatever they call them, do most people play against them? Admittedly, I also have Ogres and Lizardmen so I am somewhat use to non-supported armies.
>>
>>98867782
>>98867813
>>
>>98870134
I play VC and they're rad. Some people think the Legacy list is OP but it's honestly not unless you buy a bunch of spam chariots, which is boring as fuck. There are some fanmade rules that are just as powerful but people accept when they're whiners.

Those BK you posted cost like $250+ for shitty resin minis on the secondary market. It's so sad because the AoS BKs, while cool, are way too upscaled for TOW.
>>
I kinda like the idea of doing a ghoul army and they're from the plain of bones

Think like the elephant graveyard from lion king.

I imagine they're the remains of an empire expedition at the behest of a prominent wizard, into the plains that devolved into disaster, desperation and eventually madness and cannibalism when it was revealed the wizard that the wizard was a plain ol necromancer

They kill the necromancer but subsequently get lost in the plains - something like that
>>
>>98870198
The AoS BKs are too upscaled for even AoS. Those things are unnecessarily large

Cool as fuck though
>>
>>98870251
They fit on current bases but I can't get over how massive they are. A block of them is more massive looking than some dragons.

Thats why I chose the Knights of the Everlasting light. Good excuse for slapstick comedy with their curse of bad luck and a super late game goal of trying to cure it.
>Allows a fair amount of role-playing since any good GM will abuse that trait and force you to make shitty decisions
I hope so! I want both unexpected allies and bloody tenacious enemies coming out from my "sparing the defeated" mentality.

Can you imagine a Skaven feeling a disgusting sense of indebtedness to a MANTHING!?! or a corrupt guards-captain doubling down on Fucking over the party because my character insisted on giving him a revolting Mercy?!?

I want to play him as a bit of a zorro or dread captain Roberts. A light rapierist or saberist.

Yeah but the grail reliquae is dogshit peasant stuff without any true magic or majesty. It’s just peasants propping up the body of a dead knight. Not the best fodder for a big centerpiece when it comes to nuGW avoiding grimderp fun.

does anyone remember if there were female minis in the game before 7th/8th ed ?
on top of my mind, I can think of the dark elf witches, Alarielle and Ariel for the High/Wood elves, bretonnian damsels and the not borgia dogs of war sorceress character
but other than that I can't think of any
even Empire college wizard who should be half female and half male since both sexes are equally able to practice magic in the lore were only represented by male models
if you think about it, any sort of female presence among tabletop minis was virtually inexistent before late whfb/aos

also lahmian vampires obviously

>>98870787

Good, that assumption is absolutely bang on, but for real, especially do not read anything about a BL character you like. Every single one of them was the literary equivalent of the author coming out of the kitchen bearing an empty plate, serving it to you with a great flourish, and then leaping on the table and blasting it and you with explosive diarrhoea before smirking and declaring "bon appetit".

There have always been women models and characters, but they were in appropriate places in the context of a renaissance-esque fantasy world, not an automatic HR department-mandated ~30-50% of every single unit which is clearly how they intend to go in TOW based on Cathay.
>>
>>98870787
thats why nobody bought WHFB and it died. they are not going to repeat the same mistake with TOW.

Everyone who says Total Warhammer is why TOW is a thing is an absolute fucking retard. Started playing again and it's such a fucking dogshit game. You don't get any meaningful lore after the faction select. The battles are boring and have zero strategy unless you need to hero cheese. The quotes aren't endearing. If this had been my intro to WFB I'd think it's terrible and never want to try out the tabletop.

I call these characters Dunks, because Sir Duncan the Tall is a prime example of it. The lowly brought high, and exemplifying the virtues that their Order often forgets. It’s a very good archetype for knights, so I approve. I think I would remove the solemn oath - not because it’s bad, but because that should be something they do in the campaign. You’re still a Squire, you shouldn’t be making these grandiose declarations. You get a squire of your own at what, T3? So that’s when it happens, and since T3 is generally when the campaign is ending or the character’s arc is completing then the character achieves a cute “and so the trend of good will continues” type beat.

He states exactly that on every single patreon post that showcases a new model. And again when people ask him about it in the comments because they didn't read the post. And also when people ask on MMF. He's one of if not the most engaged and professional fantasy creator out there.

>>98872503
I printed mine at 28mm and am happy with them. Same with all the other Highlands minis I've printed. Their humans and skeletons match 7th ed WHFB scale within a fraction of a millimetre when printed at 28mm (or, 87.5% of the original stl's scale, for the scale autists out there). Their dwarfs not so much bc they're different proportions, but they fit on 20mm bases when printed at the smaller size and that was important to me.
>>
>>98872718
i assume any model that doesn't have a printed version on the product page looks nothing like the render when printed, many such cases

>>98872851
They work fine, as long as you don't try to put the 32mm size on 20mm bases. Their weapon and shield hands are modular so you have a fair bit of leeway in getting their poses to rank up nicely. And even that is me overstating the issue a bit, they're not that bad at all.

>>98872503
Another example of their 28mm scale humans next to 6th ed spearman and 7th ed wizard
>>
>>98872851
In fact sorry for the double reply but having looked at the pic of them in this thread, I think that's the 32mm scale prints on 20mm bases, so your fears are well founded in that regard. Put the 28mm ones on 20mm bases or the 32mm on 25s and it's a lot better
>>
>>98872842
Yeah, and even with good resins it's gonna be a risky print. I just don't see this model working as anything smaller than 54mm scale.
>Elspeth STL
I don't know if there are any proxies yet, but there's at least two scanners that have it on their to-do list, but it'll depend on if and when they can get it for non extortionate prices and there are enough buyers in the first place to fund that purchase.
>>98872884
You're doing what any sensible consumer should. I don't buy any STL that the creator won't show printed and painted photos of. I need to know that the model prints well and that the creator understands it's a miniature made to be painted and played with.

I was going to say GW's Kroxigor Scales color gave me a good turquoise like what you're looking for. But it's been discontinued, so you may have to scour your LGS. No idea what color would be equivalent in the new range they just released.
Taking a quick look, it seems like the Seraphon Blue is a decent tone, but the #4 is too dark and #5 looks too bright.

But either way, I'd recommend using an off-white primer. Grey or black will make it too dark. Full white will go too bright.
Not trying to shill for GW, but their Wraithbone primer (yes, it's expensive; feel free to find a cheaper equivalent) has always done me good for bright colors like that.

You know what would be a real cash cow for GW? A TOW supplement for faction specific airship battles. Ship to ship action on a beclouded tabletop, or even using giant airships during conventional TOW battles to move around troops, drop rocks on the enemy from above, etc.

The saddle looks fine, anon, don't worry about it too much. I'm looking forward to seeing how you paint that vampire, especially his sword. Will it be glowy and magical?
>>
>>98869048
To start, the acid ichor gift isn't as good as it seems. While it does synergize well wtith a daemonic mount, chaos characters have high initiative and you'd ideally want to kill your opponent's character(s) in a duel without taking any wounds at all. Give him a lance or a great weapon and 2 favours of the gods instead.
As for the sorcerer, either give him a chaos steed if or ideally don't bring him at all. If you still want to bring him on foot, absolutely do not have him use the lore of battle magic and never have him join a unit. Go with daemonology or dark magic so you're at least guaranteed a magic missile spell.
Why are you bringing those 8 chaos warriors? What are they going to accomplish? If a single one of them dies, they'll lose their rank bonus. 8 warriors isn't even enough to get the close order CR bonus. Reconsider their inclusion in your list or bring at least twice as many. The marauders are fine and so are the knights. I personally think warhounds and chaff units in general are completely useless in TOW because of how post-combat reforms work. You aren't bringing any units with the mark of Khorne, so they aren't good as screens either.
If this list is composed of models you happen to have on hand, it'll do alright and you should play with it until you figure out what works and what doesn't for yourself.

GW has been doing this lately. FOMO online but overly-abundant in-store. Exodites box for Kill Team was like that. Instant sell out, content creators saying "I didn't get one, there is a shortage!" Now it goes for discount on eBay.

Scummy tactics. They're basically offloading warehouse space to GW stores and indy retailers while keeping less online stock, which feeds the FOMO market.

Entirely untrue. Warhammer Fantasy is full or flying ships, and it would be light work to add some lore justification to plug holes where needed.
Most human factions have flying ships somewhere in the lore, flying towers exist, Cathay had balloons, dark elves can have gargantuan flying creatures with howdah on back like their manowar ships. It's easy to justify all this is lore since it's not a serious setting

>>98875083

>he made a solemn oath to also foster hidden talent and give second chances when he can (and of course advancing monetarily and station wise along the way).
If you go that route, try to be clear with whoever is GMing what that entails exactly
I like the concept, but I can just envision there might be issues what the GM might think it means vs what you think it means. Very important that you both clear that up so you can enjoy the game. I've had something similar in a OnlyWar campaign and just ruined the ending.

Skavenslayer is unironically one of my favorite comfort books
Just a fun story where not only each Skaven clan gets their own plot, but also the random pub side-characters show up for the final battle. The schtick where Thanquol confuses an Eshin assassin in the imperial ballroom for a noble cosplaying as a beastman absolutely killed me
>>
>>98873545
You could be part of the deaths head. a group of ostermark residents who cover their face with skull masks to protect their identities from the vampire counts.

I could see someone who respects the sanctity of final words would have a bone (hah) to pick with vampires and necromancers. Could make him a devotee of Moor too.

Think the skull mask would go well with the all black rapier wielder get up.
>>
>>98876696
Yah it is a bit vague. Maybe stipulate that if they show some kind of redeeming quality my character is one to let them live. I could see fighting the ultimate big bad orc boss and my character going "nooooOOOoo" might mess things up.

But even then, there is opportunities for messing things up.

Lots of 28mm games already use full size ships, it would just be a matter of putting them on flying stands
>>
>>98876691
Are you retarded? Why does everyone keep mentioning ManoWar. It's because you're a fake grog and have never played Manowar, which is nothing at all like what I am proposing. How do you think we can have 28mm air ship boarding actions using inch long Manowar ships?
>>
>>98877005
People keep mentioning manowar because all gw would ever do with your idea is make manowar on flying bases. It’s a dumb shit idea that doesn’t even make sense for the setting, which lacks flying ships in the way you want. It’s like you’re austisically transposing Warcraft and AoS onto WFB because your special interest is airships.

Why would anyone who isn’t a Chinese Communist citizen find this bland and boring slop interesting to read? Most TOW games are just kill missions. You get the amount of points the enemy unit you kill is worth as victory points. With some bonus sources of Victory Points as seen >>98876416 here

Its one of the only books where felix isnt a slack jawed passive observer and actually goes out and proactively does shit.
For some reason after this Felix despite being college educated cannot see the broad side of context before it punches him straight in the face as plaintext.

If I remember right the first 3 G&F are pretty good, then it goes down hill. There are still a few I still like like Orcslayer though.

Also, Thanquol is always fun. TO bad his rivals are both kind of live in a stasis chamber as far as character traits go. Felix still acts like a bumbling undergraduate and is suprised by the same shit 20 years after adventuring the world.
>>
>>98877139
based. finally an interesting book set in the world of warhammer fantasy. all empire books are boring slop.
>>
>>98877472
Scalpers are based. Robbing paypiggy man babies of their money is noble work and I fully support it. It's not like they're ripping off honest normal people, they are making pay piggies suffer which is hilarious and justified. Normal people are already hesitant with GWs regular prices, they would never shell out for a scalpers egregious price. Only a truly desperate FOMO faggot buys from a scalper at their rates, and therefore he deserves to lose every dollar he chooses.
>>
>>98875823
Every time I see John Blanche's flying galleon stuff I get a hankering to make some baroque flying boats.
With that being said there's probably too many models at too large a scale running around in warhammer fantasy games to do what you're suggesting.
>>
>>98877529
You crossed the line between being a contrarian and being an idiot. Scalpers are everywhere fucking up most hobbies, it's not a GW only problem. If there's some cool stuff from your childhood you want to show your kids or nephews chances are it's hoarded by scalpers already. Fuck them.
>>
>>98877623
Obviously you would only put a single unit of infantry on the ship, and perhaps a leader - not an entire army.
Imagine this, a new unit type "Marines" which are mixed weapons, ranged and melee. They shoot at each other when the ships lock together with hooks and ropes the Marines jump over and fight ship to ship with clubs and hatchets
>>
>>98877638
Anon you have to understand that the anons itt don't view Warhammer as a toolbox to play out their fantasy adventures they imagine. They have no imagination or creativity like the players back in the old hammer era, how Warhammer was meant to be played. Anything that is not a corporate approved and licensed product, or "official" way to play is simply inconceivable to them, bordering on blasphemy.
Look at the responses whenever siege games are mentioned. They won't even consider playing a siege until GW releases an Official TOW™ approved Siege supplement, and complimentary £399 Games Workshop® brand Fortress.

Imagine a scenario with flying ships is simply out of the question

theoretically yes, they're meant to be better preserved than normal skeletons
practically they were always just elite skeletons with better equipment instead of true mummies

I'd bet gw didn't like its previous true mummies and didn't know how to make the concept look better, you'll notice that the various liches and tomb kings aren't actually properly mummified either, even if they have some skin

I remember that when that Warhammer Fantasy mmo got released years ago, on its official website each playable zone had a lore blurb describing it in the form of an universe report or text; one of the high elven region in Ulthuan (Avelorn I think) had a report by an high elven woman who claimed to have stumbled upon a band of beastmen and barely escaped them
the elven gal said in the text that when the beastmen caught of glimpse of her, she could see in their eyes a desire for something else than merely killing and eating her, at least at first
that was an unnecessarily long post to say that what many of you gooners fantasize about when it comes to the beastmen has already been hinted at in plenty of secondary whfb sources
>>
>>98879345
found it
the game's full name is Warhammer Online : Age of Reckoning
the lore blurb I was talking about is here :
https://www.tentonhammer.com/articles/war-dungeons-lost-vale
>I fled blindly through the wilds with Nunriel's screams a companion to the sounds of my beating heart and labored breath. My mind was two paces behind my eyes as I entered a clearing filled with a number of cavorting Beastmen. At their center was an ancient waystone, drenched in fresh blood and filth, and beside it stood a massive Doombull with the pale fur of an albino.

It was then that I screamed, for I had never imagined such a sight would be found in this fair place. The Beastmen ceased their savage dance, their red eyes turning upon me with hate, fury, and dare I say lust. I stopped short of them, my hand upon the pommel of my sword. The white Doombull grunted in amusement, a sentiment that was echoed by his companions.
>The Beastmen ceased their savage dance, their red eyes turning upon me with hate, fury, and dare I say lust
here you have it; what you >>98875978 wanted to hear, a (semi-canon) source that beastmen lust after women from other races

Ehh, I'm worried they'll try and Jew out with it. There's a reason they put 6 chariots in the FOMObox, so while it would be cool to get most of an army at a huge discount with FOMO+Battle March, I suspect they'll deliberately chuck something in there to foil that, either more chariots or maybe some of the fuckugly old bobbleheaded Tomb Guard or something.

They still have the horses to put in a box. Though yeah unless they have a Tomb Guard refresh up their ass they’ll probably make it into the BM box as they are. I don’t mind too much, I can just say they were Grandpa TK’s generation, but the consistency would be nicer.

I'm not sure she does, she can't really elevate herself any higher than where she is now, since we know all the big players for Chaos in the Great War, so she either jobs to another Chaos character or jobs to the High Elves or Bretonnia.
We know that her entire invasion of the Wasteland is finished at this point in the narrative since GW allowed Wreckers point to reference her, which they wouldn't have done if the plotline was still going on
>>
>>98880490
>I wish we'd get more top level characters in TOW.
The only reason we aren't getting those gets is because TOW was still in the testing stages, resin stuff isn't meant to stick for too long, so they made a few irrelevant heralds-types or vanguards leaders.

First plastic special character we got was miao ying, second is going to be settra, morghur is rumored to have a huge plastic model ready, and gw is gearing up for engra and asavar by redesigning the entire chaos line around the adrian smith artworks.

Nta but of all the new characters in TOW, I actually like Kiknik Toofsnatcha. Simple rise of a Gobbo raider who specialises in ambushes and supposedly raised his wolf from a pup . Nothing big or special but I appreciate the lower scale characters more than say, Tyrion or Archaon as examples.
