They should with no genitalia and spawn out of darkness or guts of blood. Orc Females should never have relationships with Human Males or even exist.
>>

Only if they are an artificial race created for battle, or if they have something about their lifecycle or biology that makes peaceful cohabitation with them impossible.
As magical supersoldier slaves gone wrong or something, it explains why they would just destroy for the sake of destroying because fighting is what they were made to do and they're doing it, their lack of ability to do otherwise can be blamed on their creator.
If they need to prey upon humans to thrive (like, for example, orcs are made by defiling the bodies of the dead using blood rituals and they are reborn as fresh orcs) then its immediately clear why humans and them can never live side by side. "They eat humans" isn't enough, because humans cannot possibly be their sole diet (we fight back too hard, and we take too long to raise for food. Humans make for SHITTY livestock for anything other than vampires) so that quickly establishes that they can eat other things and don't need to eat humans.

The moment they have a viable path that doesn't involve constantly raiding everyone around them, it becomes incredulous that none of them are doing it and feels hamfisted. If they are intelligent enough to make and use weapons, and use military tactics, and form an army with a leader running the show, then players are naturally going to assume that they are smart enough to do other things too, like farm or read.
Otherwise you have to make them akin to Frieren's demons, where the whole point is that they seem intelligent and sociable but there are fundamental blocks and incompatibilities in their psychology as predators of humans that cannot be overcome. But you are not writing a book or a manga or a show, Freiren took a lot of setup to really explain and showcase the limitations of the demon mind, and many readers STILL don't get it and argue against the text. So the odds of you doing better at your table are low.
>>
If you focus on their history as evil baby-eating puppy-kicking mook badguys, but then you say “these guys over here have escaped from their evil god-emperor and they actually aren’t that bad”, that’s fair play in my book. It’s still an orc. Warcraft III is cool. But you can’t just write out the whole idea of wretched-boogeymen-serving-evil, if you do that it stops being an orc.
>>
What do you do in your game, OP? What? You don't play games? Well fancy that.

I respect this take because it’s classic /tg/, but come on man, it’s classic /tg/-being-contrarian. You can’t act like this was ever the default take and you certainly can’t act like orc musclegirls were invented by wokes. Orc musclegirls were the default take in settings that had females at all.

Depends on the setting.
Depends on the setting.
Depends on the setting.
>the setting needs good and evil as opposing power systems
>anything pure good or evil is just a tool of the powers behind the opposing powers
>you can't have pure evil orcs without an evil god or demon or eye of sauron creating or sustaining them or else entirely willing them into existence.
>nature isn't good or evil, evil is an active force, you need a will behind it
>orcs need to be created to be actively evil
>having conflicting alien goals/culture/instincts is not the same as being inherently purely evil
Most people don't care to run settings with that kind of thing. So pure evil races aren't in popular these days because they don't fit the sorts of settings people run. You can do it, if your setting allows it, but it's a flavor of setting people aren't as into for their roleplay power fantasy games.

In Dungeons and Dragons evil is a faction, evil underlings serve under evil lords who serve evil masters who all speak their evil language and serve their evil gods who support the plane of evil which contains infinite evil power to support evil magic. It's not that picture of the nine boxes that looks like a Meyers-Briggs chart. Exceptions to a race's normal alignment has been a thing as long as Drizzt. As a player race as it's been for decades, players will have free will.

OP, have you tried playing D&D? It's fun. Try it sometime and you can learn how to really stir up the hornet's nest. Ask about bounded accuracy or how perception checks work in the dark or ask how thac0 works, maybe even something even simpler, like "why druid?"
>>
>>98870933
people always miss what that chart is called: alignment. Not a morality chart. Alignment. Which factions are you most aligned with.
>>
>>98867689
Orcs aren't strictly evil but are usually evil to the point it is best to assume they are evil and act accordingly until proven otherwise.

If you see an Orc named SkullFucker GnashNasty covered in blood, sporting a severed head in their waistband, and tweaking out hard then assume "He is just like everyone else"? You deserve your beheading as it improves the gene pool.

Tolkien's orcs aren't all that interesting either IMO
In the Silmarillion they're just described as (probably) elves twisted by Morgoth and I don't think that was even the final idea Tolkien had for them

In my setting, Orcs are homonculi only recently manufactured. They have no soul, and that is why they are so ornery. Orcs have several failsafes built into them that include "sterile" and "degrade when denied protein." This means, if they were to somehow become free, orcs must constantly consume flesh to live and need to kidnap human males so they might ejaculate into giant birthing pits.

The process of manufacturing orcs is a well-studied science, which has resulted in a thriving subculture among wizards to form where they make "hobby orcs." These orcs are often the type of orc you can play, but really it's so I can have big breasted sex goblins and horrible filthy monster orcs in the same setting.

I only ever saw the films because a lot of shit in the books just seems like fat that needed to be trimmed for me like Tom Bombadil and the hobbits fucking around with the barrow wights
They work in the context of lord of the rings but they are pretty boring outside of that. I think fantasy in general has a problem with creativity for lots of settings, or inversely they are trying so hard to stand out that it feels forced
>>
>>98880614
Tom Bombadil is there mostly as a meme for his kids, but he also shows that there's mysteries in this world that aren't easily or neatly categorized. He also provides an easy way to deal with the barrow-wights.

The barrow-wights are important since they provide the blades the hobbits need to ultimately fatally wound the Witch-King.
>>
>>98880638
>but he also shows that there's mysteries in this world that aren't easily or neatly categorized
Watcher in the Water already showed this.
>The barrow-wights are important since they provide the blades the hobbits need to ultimately fatally wound the Witch-King.
Not really. Water and fire can hurt wraiths and the hobbits could have easily gotten those swords from anyone as long as they were magic. I get that in lore it is poetry because the witch king ruled that area or fought there or whatever but in the actual context of story telling that shit doesn't really matter and is just background noise
>>
>>98880644
Watcher in the Water is evil. Tolkien didn't want to imply everything mysterious was also evil or sinister.
>>
>>98880648
>Tolkien didn't want to imply everything mysterious was also evil or sinister.
Ghosts who help Aragorn and shit like the ents already cover this. If you like Tom then whatever but I feel as though his role in the story sounds like it adds literally nothing. Also I hear Aragorn is different in the books too. I may give them a read some day but there is so much else I want to read and watch that I really don't want to at the moment

>He sees
>But he does not understand

The reason Merry's sword wounds The Witch King is not just because "it's magic".
But because the sword was forged by a race of men who were destroyed by The Witch King in ages past, and that sword, forged specifically to defat the Witch King, and his armies, had lain in a barrow for a thousand years waiting to achieve the task it was created for.

It's more than "Hurr durr, it's magic".
It's specifically the magic of intention and fate, or "Wyrd", which is a core component of the Fatalism inherent to the Germanic worldview.

Dummy.
>>
>>98884738
It's a neat detail but in the context of story beats it doesn't matter at all besides the fact that it is magic. People dick ride Tolkein way too much and act like he is some flawless ultimate authority. Yeah he was good but not perfect. No story ever is "perfect". Scouring is also lame sounding imo
>>
>>98867689
Yes, they a stand in for mongols/dindus.
>>
>>98867689
Classic orcs are almost always evil because they are corrupted by dark powers to be evil. They are barbarians based off mongol hordes.
>>
>>98885088
Like OP pic?
>>
>>98867689
No. If they can think for themselves and are not under the control of a deity or magic, they should be formed by their environment. Many orcs should be evil, they make good monsters. But not all orcs, otherwise this ruins any believability of them being thinking creatures.

You are entitled to your take or whatever, but this is truly the most baffling shit ive ever heard. Most Tolkien fans are ravenous for every scrap of lore they can get their hands on. Hell as someone whos dream would just be a quality fantasy novel that never ends I can hardly imagine cutting a single word from Lord of the rings.

Brevity is the soul of wit
I like LotR but something being long doesn't mean it is full of quality, it is how much it does in the time it has.
LotR still has fat it could have trimmed which the movies do. Also I'm not a Tolkein fan, I just like LotR. I found the Hobbit boring and had no interest in the Silmarillion. Still haven't even read the books for LotR for the reason I've already outlined here before in that they seem to have way more shit that is unnecessary. And it's not because I'm allergic to reading either, I've read plenty of books after seeming a film or anime or show.
>>
>>98893303
I'm not a Tolkien fan either but I found the Silmarillion to be the most interesting of the three
Honestly LOTR and Tolkienian fantasy in general made no fucking sense to me before reading it (but the split between elves and dwarves as told in the Silmarillion is still silly as fuck)
>>
>>98893303
Its interesting to me that you find the hobbit boring, as it seems to fit (at least in my mind) the idea of Lotr with the fat trimmed.
As for brevity, it might be the soul of wit but density is the foundation of immersion. If you are truly planning to lose track of reality in a story its the unnessesary filler that pads it out and allows you to do so.
I can appreciate the other side of things though, ill always take a well condensed OVA series against a long running serial.
>>
>>98893417
I really don't care about elf lore. It's cool that it's there and I'm glad people enjoy it but I don't particularly care too much about it
>>98893478
I tried to read the Hobbit but just found it boring. All the dwarves seemed basically the same. I stopped reading when the trolls turned to stone. Never had interest in the films for the Hobbit and I tried reading it before the films.
>>
>>98893839
The Hobbit films and the book may as well be different stories based on the same loose foundation myth, they share very little in common outside the vague narrative. What is interesting though is your issue with the book highlights what is maybe its core difference from the Lotr. Being that in Lotr each member of the fellowship is substantially fleshed out, with the otherwise unnessesary side adventures being there mainly for this purpose as well as bringing depth to the world.
>>
>>98867689
Well, try and imagine what its like having a spike driven through your medula oblongata, you may WANT to be a nice person, but mostly you are just want to smash and kill.
>>
>>98894340
And mostly you've just had a lifetime of getting your ass beat by bigger orcs, until you got big enough you could beat up smaller orcs, and so on and so forth.

Basically, for an ork, getting their ass beat is the only form of love they get. So you know, orks tend to be kinda dicks.

What if killing your family, and raping your livestock isn't actually evil?
What if there's some sort of cultural relativism to appeal to, that makes them skinning your parents alive, and torturing your family dog the lesser of two evils?
What if somebody said a bad slur word to them first?
