>>98864871>The low stats having mechanical penalties from RUE was retconnedKevin confirmed Beyond Based
I've read several RIFTS books but never convinced enough people to give it a shot. It's power level is too all over the place. More so than most TTRPGs everyone in the campaign needs to be on the same page.
>>98864978What?... So I've been doing it wrong?>>98865185You gotta bully those geeks!
>>98865185You have to restrict OCCs/RCCs based on power tiers. As the GM you can simply say: "No, this OCC is too power for our game. I want things a bit more low-level." Pic related shows one way some anon categorised power tiers which you can use as a rough guide.
>>98865185RIFTS has the insane jump in power levels make sense for the setting, though it does make it hell to build a mixed power game as a result. RIFTS is set in the aftermath of a Portal Apocalypse that hit a high-tech setting, which means you have everything from medieval serfs to walking tanks handling the Eldritch gods and godly spellcasters running around in the aftermath. I have played in two RIFTS campaigns (they didn't last long due to the people involved moving away back in the day), and how you play the game is basically tied to how you build your characters. The game plays wildly different if you're running a Russian cyborg kill-team on the front lines than if you're running a stealthy team of thieves trying to sneak through places, especially when both groups run into the same sort of threat and have to handle it.>>98864978If I remember right, the RUE made it clear that a 10 was considered the average stats of a healthy human adult in-setting, and advised against making characters with lower stats than an eight unless you were really good at roleplaying out the related health and mental issues involved with such problems while using said penalties to show the sort of issues such people would have in going on adventures. I'm also pretty sure it gave those penalties because it assumes you're playing a fully grown adult, and having your stats sitting below an average five-year old's stats would mean something is seriously wrong with your character.
I gotta vent at you all. Its a splicers game>Guy has gotta through a few sessions>does a simultaneous attack to deflect a blow and strike for...140 MD>His sheet says he's using a banshee blade (basically a chainsaw) for 2d4x10+2d6+12.>banshee blades do 1d4x10>He explains that he holding he gets 1d6 from fencing, plus 12 from his PS bonus. His regular human strength bonus.>he doubled everything because he thinks you can do a double strike in a simultaneous attack.I know its recently people having trouble with the parrying with paired weapons but, man, I am getting tired of having this conversation.
>>98864871Interesting setting, have not heard of this before.
>>98866015If I could convince enough people to play I would want run an armor pilot/glitterboy emergency response force type game.
>>98865535Techno-Wizard is technically the strongest O.C.C. if you squint. But someone like a Godling can take Techno-Wizard as one of its two classes & you also have to figure out downtime & resources, so I wouldnt says their top tier all on their own. It takes a really capable player to eke out the best of TW's.TW's are of course my second favorite O.C.C. next to Glitterboys.
>>98867739Dammit, bro! Now everyone is going to be rolling twodlings!
>>98864871I've heard of the houserule where people make 1 MDC = 10 SDC, how many people still use it? I'm curious of any campaigns that used it and the ramifications.
>>98870837I haven't. I think it would be trickier because MDC damage numbers are lower than SDC. Even at 10x conversion you are making SDC weapons more damaging with thing like burst fire rules and volley rules, etc. That said Im only stipulating.
>>98864871Okay, so I read Titan Robotics. How you do go about being a Titan Robotics power player? Just roll a roboti pilot, pick a TR model, and give the book over to the GM explaining how your character pays a percentage every job to have his own repair and munitions crew fly in even in the middle of a danger zone to fix my ride?Or do you smarter thing and roll a OCC and explain that's his character's dream so the GM can make a million dollar reward a good carrot and the journey to the Majestium empire to go shopping?Pic oddly related. The diamond trolls are essentially glam users. They would totally use the TR plan and TR products, total glam-robot piloting.
Someone really needs to do something about that Lord of the Deep thing...
>>98867739>GBIt is all fun and games until the GM starts to balance encounters by capital. 1 Glitterboy = 25 mil and 1 atv + sunroof laser rifle = 44k. GB = 568 atv, that will be several hundred 2d6:2 M.D.C. hits per action per melee. Good luck with Immortan Joes WH40k motorpool glitterfag.
>>98872407I can take them. My suit has been handed down from father to son, for generations. My grandsire did not balk when the nightmare demons clawed their way through the rifts, I shall not balk against a mortal foe. Sound the Boomgun to shatter flesh & bone & fear. As long as that defiant boom rings out those that shelter behind me will know no suffering. The Glitterboy was clad in chrome not for the protection against laser armaments, but to shine in the darkness of a time when there was no light. Sound the Boomgun to shatter foes & hordes & darkness. And when my gun falls silent, my son shall take my place to safeguard humanity until the end of time
>>98870837Never actually used that one, though the game I did play had it so if you ended up with enough SDC and health points, one MDC wouldn't render you into a bloody mess like the books stated it does. It came up exactly one time in-game where a bad roll had a Vibroblade rammed through a guy and he wasn't carved apart immediately. He did bleed out after one last action because he was down to two health points and the knife was still in him, but he also set off the alarm before perishing. Good times.
>>98871689The lemurians are essentially the go to guys for it, who have a big end-of-episode spell designed to fuck his shit up. It didn't kill him the one time they used it, but it did destroy a tentacle.Of course, Davy Jones has a cult of bad lemurians just to keep the lemurians from focusing on the deep lord.
>>98872706It will, of course require three beers. Just enough to make your GM forget that they just deemed the boom gun holds 100 flettchette rounds and not 1000
>>98871689Go to phase world, aquire big magic crystal starship laser weapons. Shrink them down to your pocket using magic. Go find a Light Mage & add a TW enchant to x10 the damage as well as other laser buffs. Swim down & start destroying tentacles. Use magic to teleport around & protect yourself. Easy peasey. Now just give me the cash to buy a crap ton of starship weapons & the resources to get them enchanted by rare magic
Thoughts on Heroes Unlimited? Should I use it to run a superhero game or would I be better off with a different system?
>>98874486Its fine on its own. Honestly I wish it was possible to add Super Powers to Rifts through Techno Wizardry or have an Operator also be a super genius with a super power gadget. I love the idea with a TW guy with the Multiply power to make copies of himself so he can have a few clones working on projects safely back in town while another copy goes on adventures & another copy goes to places like Lazlo to learn spells or whatever. I know a lot of people use it as a way to break the action economy, but I like the idea of not dealing with downtime. Just occasionally merge back with your clone to gain "side-grade" advantages.
>>98874486I think it's one of the better ones although I've only played like three different systems. There is very little hand holding in the book about constructing a campaign, so if you don't like using modules it's great.
>>98872706>My suit has been handed down from father to son, for generations.Nepotism, why am i not surprised.>as that defiant boom rings out those that shelter behind me will know no suffering. >Allies behind him with blown up eardrums, forced to be bed bound for the rest of their life due to eternal vertigo>know no sufferingGlitties lie as easy as they breathe.Do you have any faves? Anything from free quebec or triax? Or are you vanilla?
>>98876334>NepotismBro doesnt understand that growing uo in the cockpit makes you better than the rest.>eardrumsThey're behind me, like way behind me but still behind me...>favesIm a fan of every glitterboy. I even have a partial write up for "Boom Town" a city that survived the coming of the rifts thanks to some glitterboy pilots, which turned into pseudo-noble Houses with politics, intrigue & the sound of thunder. The Republicans, Archie, Free Quebec & local petty politics all have a secret hand in it. Each faction & each House having its own goals, prestige, & influence. In the city theres at least one of every model (except some of the Mutants in Orbit, there is one, the that fell to Earth though)Theres even an Iron Mage & a TW Golem customized Glitterboy, guys with the Little Brother glitterboy suits, a nefarious House that secretly uses Shadowboys too, etc. Even the local milita wear chromium plated breastplates/helms. The city caters to all things glitterboy.
Speaking of Multiple Selves, if you had that and Dimensional Pocket, would one copy be able to put something into the pocket & another copy take it out somewhere else?
>>98870837I've used it. For a hardcore mercenaries campaign it was awful for reasons others have said. For a more RP heavy campaign it allowed far more cool moments and also more interesting interactions when you didn't have to worry about a common laser pistol obliterating the town bank.
>>98871071I think you start by admiring how Kevin decided that ARCHIE who was very specifically surpassing CS tech, but was careful to only sell stuff that equivalent to avoid suspicion, is now not even comparable because no one is allowed to be as strong as the CS.
>>98878544Isn't dimensional pocket you make a literal pocket into a bag of holding?
>>98879081The Super Power D Pocket is a little different
>>98874486Never got a chance to actually play it (I did make a character though, so I think I can talk about this).Heroes Unlimited is, much like the rest of the Palladium extended universe, geared towards giving you literally everything you'd need to run just about any type of game in it. The base book covers roughly 90% of possible heroes you could make, (the others fit either into Ninjas and Superspies or After the Bomb), and let you build anything from superhero detectives to Superman-style heroes. >>98874839Ironically enough, near the back of either the Rifts RUE or the Superhero book there's a pre-generated mission idea where you do, in fact, get to drop a character right at the start of the Rifts Apocalypse because the person doing the time travel/ dimensional gating screwed up. I also know that either Superheroes Unlimited or one of the Rifts books that expanded the fun of the dimensional portals included how to calculate the durability of Supers that got tossed through dimensions and landed in Rifts and how they would get to keep their powers. The bigger issue for them is that they would be some of the biggest targets about, especially if their method of returning is still intact, which means they just don't have the time to get anywhere important before getting jumped by the apocalyptic situation.>>98879077I thought ARCHIE was basically limited in its creativity from the very beginning, and was heavily dedicated in using the CS as a blunt weapon against the Splugorth entirely because the AI couldn't build a combat force large enough to throw down with them without alerting everybody as to where its production facilities actually were. When did that change?
>>98879077The Republicans & Archie are still at the top of the tech level. Archie has probably been the one to help advance the CS so they can fight the Minion War for him
>>98871030>>98873374>>98879068Gotcha, thanks all. Seems like from a gameplay standpoint its a terrible idea, but could be fun if I wanted a more RP heavy Rifts. (No idea why I would want to use Rifts for that.)
>>98876334You say nepotism, glitties say 200 years of accumulated piloting knowledge and a pilot seat with enough family DNA ingrained into it its technically their brother.
>>98876334>you have any faves? The German flying one, second by the fatboy, and then the shadowboy. This is purely for asthetic, though. I haven't been able to play them in a campaign but I think they are the least terrible looking designs. I think the shadowboy should be cheaper since the whole goal is to be a cheap knockoff.
Anyone have any Lazlo RAW content they'd be willing to share? I was interested in the metalhead occ and the new spells/gear
>Palladium forums still deadWhat are the odds they accidentally deleted the database with everyone's logins and/or posts and are just digging through hole deeper by trying to avoid announcing it?
>>98882430So much lost if true
>>98880230No, but I do have my -tism content I posted here. I mean. The players better buckle up if I play a Lazlo campaign but thats what they are going to have to deal with.
>>98884306Damn. I remember a friendly anon posted some pictures of his book once or twice, but I cant find them
>>98882500>>98882430Far as Ive heard is they were migrating to a new server, though that was months ago.Im sure the php vulnerability will screw something up.
>>98884324I got you, sempai. https://desuarchive.org/tg/thread/97537742/#q97634801https://desuarchive.org/tg/thread/97173634/#q97269646
>>98886579Youre a bro. Thank you
>>98877273Would that be cool to ask for the "Boom Town" stuff? Always dug others' idea of self-made kingdoms and city-states with the disparate settlement themes of Rifts, beyond the informed stuff like Northern Gun, CS and the 'Burbs, both the Lazlos, Federation of Magic, etc.
>>98888122I think that's in the first Rifter, or the Adventure guide. I remember reading the latter a few years back, and it explained all the steps on how to generate small towns that aren't on the maps in a section before the adventure hook ideas.
>>98888909BoomTown is my own homebrew city. It's called Boomtown because of all the Glitterboy Pilots.>>98888122Sure, I've posted some of this before here & there.Boomtown is roughly in central Ohio on the edge of the Magic Federation. It was protected long ago by ten NEMA Chromium Guardsmen during the coming of the Rifts. The Republicans have been secretly supporting it since the beginning. The town is ruled by the Glitterboy Houses/Clans/Families 5 "Old Clans" which are descendants of the original 10 Guardsmen (some were lost along the centuries) & 10 "New Clans" which are families of upstarts or those where a young offshoot or marriage took over an old clan. The more Glitterboys you can field, as well as other assets of power like land resources, trade, or military forces, the more standing you have. Any GB pilot has the right to challenge a pilot of one of the clans/houses for the right to their GBs. Sort of like how in the days of old knights in tournament can win another knight's horse. The mindset of each clan can be somewhat categorized asTraditionalist, they want to keep Boomtown as it always has been, independent but friendly, always willing to help the surrounding areas & do what they can for the good of everyoneMavericks, who want to bring change to Boomtown, make it bigger & possibly more cosmopolitan or expansionistDisillusionists, who would rather join one nation or another, they see Boomtown as a relic & would rather sell the town to the highest bidderIsolationists, those who would rather cut ties to the surrounding towns & nations, stop trying to protect the little villages & hollows in the countryside & to conserve resources to just Boomtown. The chief house, who is the first among equals & defacto leader of Boomtown is the Old Clan, Clan Davis, lead by Elias Davis. He's a farmer & a traditionalist.
>>98889501Also, Clan Davis hates anything to do with Michigan or "that state up north" as they call itHouse Baelor is led by Nickolas Baelor, his house has ties with Triax & his family has some swanky Triax GBs. He's very militaristic & and Isolationist, he doesn't mind a military trade partner in Triax, but he thinks Boomtown should not extend aid to far flung villages & towns for no gain.House Darling, led by Rodger Darling. They have ties to Quebec & field Sidekicks & Quebec GBs. They are cosmopolitan Mavericks, who see Boomtown as a jewel of technology & progress that could lead the surrounding areas as the capital of a nation that could be a real power in the Great Lakes.Clan Cambell, Tradionalists who are secretly Republicans & use Republican suits, including being the ones to introduce Little Brother suits to the regular army of Boomtown. Led by two twins Andy & Owen Campbell. Those are the old clans
>>98889531Of the new clans the most interesting & the one that has every person in Boomtown's eye & is a constant source of gossip is House Archfire. House Archfire the leader of House Archfire is a Maverick, they run & operate a TW factory & created the town's Nexus fueled TW power station. They are very new to the scene, one of their GB's is a TW Golem outfitted with TW gadgets & abilities always changing & being refitted with experimental armaments. The other is actually the resurrected remains of of a GB that was the last GB of an old clan that fell on hard times & could no longer field their last remaining GB after it suffered catastrophic damage & also resulted in the death of the House's heir. House Archfire purchased the remains & turned it into an Iron Mage some see this as a hopeful & admirable thing, & some see it as very controversial & a perversion of the normal GB tradions & culture.Even more. The leader of House Archfire is betrothed to Independance Darling, the daughter of Rodger Darling & his only direct heir. If the wedding goes through & House Archfire subsumes House Darling then they will have more GBs & more resources than any other house/clan by a very significant margin. This could lead to a power scramble, or possible even a war between the houses. Rodger Darling could also decide to allow his House to fade & their power change hands to a subordinate family under their vassalage, but this might also end up being a controversial snub of his own daughter & the traditions & culture of Boomtown. The two love birds are aware of the possible dangers but would rather stand by their love than be torn apart by politics.
>>98889574Other notable lesser clans are Clan Starr who are newer to the town. Jerome Starr showed up out of nowhere one day & challenged an clan which only had a single GB to a duel. Jerome won, taking his place among the lesser clans, though the fact that he cheated is somewhat of an open secret that no one voice aloud for fear of repercussions. During the duel he used a Shadowboy & also had a few other pilots in Shadowboys painted to match his run interference & basically overwhelm the lone pilot. He's a ruthless asshole, with merc ties. He's the biggest voice for the Disillusionists.Thers also Clan Hatfield-McCoy whose GB is named Appalachian Jack. No one knows who pilots Appalachian Jack & the clans keeps to themselves mostly & has holdings outside of Boomtown in the hidden hills & valleys of the territoryThere's also a very odd Dogboy house, which is not really a proper political family like the others but rather a singular Dogboy with no direct heirs or any blood relatives, but rather a lot of D-bees & some unrelated humans all claiming to be under his umbrella. The other clans have write ups too, they just aren't as interesting. I actually have names for every houses pilot as well as the names for every GB but it's be a lot of work to post it all
>>98889574I also have an OC OCC which is a slight variation of the GB pilot which represents the more "landed noble" vibe of Boomtown as well as a Magus impired TW GB pilot OCC that im not sure happy with but im fiddling with. It's also worth noting that all the houses meet in a big Chrome plated dome in the center of town to discuss things in a sort of round robin/knights of the round table kind of way
>>98889501>>98889531>>98889574This is pretty good. You got a full document posted online somewhere?
>>98891742I have a google doc but I dont know how to share that stuff without giving out my information. Im not computer savy at all
>>98891822Could just upload the raw lore doc file itself on a host site like gofile (it allows guest uploads) and public-share it there, will have temp storage that will self-delete after awhile, if you don't trust gdrive to handle it.Pretty good stuff on the boom-town lore as well, dig the different alliances/tie-ins to other locales/groups with your own round table cast!
>>98892330Is there a way to share a Google doc without my email attached?
>>98893446If you don't want the email attached, should be simple as, long as you hadn't actually put any self-info of your important details than the lore stuff:1. Open your Google Doc.2. In the very top left corner, click File.3. Hover your mouse over Share, then click Publish to web.4. Click the blue Publish button that pops up, then click OK.Gives a link and reads like a regular article, than any editing perms like normal docs with viewer, commentator, editor, IIRC
Does anyone know the best and most reliable way to stun or make a foe loose their actions?
>>98893917Any effect with knockdown.A martial art with auto body flip stuns anyone who dares enter melee with you. Some big guns have knockdown rules but IIRC they suck vs supernatural strength and robots.
>>98893928Yeah, im looking for easy ways to get knockdown or paralysis effects with either no save, or really difficult saves. Im trying to design an effective combat guy who is more focused on capturing than blowing a dudes head off with a suped up JA-12
>>98893917Leg sweep is my go to for knocking people down.
>>98895284Old fashioned nero-mace or magic like carpet of adhesion, magic net, or sleep.Thats actually a legit line of inquiry.

>>98897879>No microchip that plays a sound file of someone yelling, "Stop resisting! Stop resisting!" on impacts. So close to perfection.
>>98898754Well if you wanted, you could make it a fully functional creature that could do that & move around on its own even
>>98899318You misunderstand. It needs to sound horrible, to sound like a bad drive thru speaker as youre getting pummeled. The garbled statically voice, which will sound worse the more the stick is used and the lower the charge gets along with rattling its circuit, will create a psychological imprint as his he gets curb stomped physically, mentally, and spiritually. He's probably going to hear garbled broken electronic voices in the prison he is going to after the beating, and he will reopened if when he gets out.If you can tap the stick and the perp curls into a ball screaming "no daddy no", then you'll know it worked.

>>98901257Can a normal character gain Nightbane abilities? I thought nightbane were some kind of freaky Astral creatures that prey on humanity or something.
>>98900227Chi, I think? I'm not entirely sure but I know that Rifts has Chi-Gung in China. I don't know if it counts though, as I think that is just a subset of mystical martial arts...I think most of the significant impacts come from things coming through the portals from other games that carry their rules over, like the Splicer characters being unable to touch metal without it becoming a hostile robot almost immediately.
>>98901810Oh you mean for humans. Yeah, nightbane are a breed of changlings and only they can have night talents.Would Cosmo knights count? I think anyone can be one.
>>98902980Ill add it to the list, Celestial Cartography & Chi powers/martial arts>>98903027Nah, Cosmo Knight is not really a mechanical layer, its just an OCC package if that makes any sense
Dropping more OC cause its slow & im bored. The Urukhem (name might change) also known as the Chrome-Eyed-Devils, are a race i rolled up using the random tables in Phaseworld & my dice were blessed by Thoth.Fantastic stats, high tech, born mages & master psychics these guys turned out to be really really OP in pretty much every area expect they were regular humanoids & tragically mortal SDC creatures. They look like perfect ideal humans, tall, strong & beautiful/handsome. They have european features & a space egyptian/greek aesthetic. Their one distinguishing feature is that they are all born with metalic chrome irises. I also decided, instead of regular psychic powers they have Phase abilities like Prometheans though not as many to start with & getting more as they gain experience. The race are mostly Good Alignment & a some Selfish, it is rare for them to become an Evil alignment but it does happen.Their history is largely a mystery. They warred with the Spluggorth & the Dominators & other evils of the Multiverse but they also got into a civilization destroying war in the early years of the Three Galaxies with the Prometheans known as the Phase War. The results of this war is why Phase tech is so regulated. When they lost the war they retreated to a small cluster of planets of their home star & created a marvel of Phase technology. They twisted space & effectively folded the planets & the home star into a twisted shared space. From space it looks like a fragmented & destroyed asteroid field with an unstable star laced with powerful Phase fields that are impossible to navigate, but in reality the planets sort of M.C. Esher twist upon themselves & through each other connecting the entire cluster into one giant "shared" planet where you could walk from one to the other yet actually travel several Astronomical Units apart.
>>98905558The Urukhem Maze/Ur-Khem Labyrinth as its called, is thought to be the only remnants of their legacy & no one every travels too close to it lest they find their ship pulled appart from the phase fields thought to have destroyed the homeworlds of the "Chrome Eyed Devils". Only thr Urukhem know the few safe routes of travel through the mind bending space-folds & they never reveal them to others. Its unknown why they are referred to as Chrome Eyed Devils, but one of their enemies started dragging their name through the mud when they disappeared. Now the name is sort of like the boogeyman, parents telling their kids to behave or the Chrome Eyed Devils will sail out of the Maze & steal them away...The Urukhem themselves are trying to lay low, only recently have they reclaimed much of their lost population & technology/manufacturing ability. They have entered back into a universe that hates & fears them, their name synonymous with the devil, & their once bright legacy tarnished by their enemies.
>>98905594>>98905558Reminds me of those Archive I between videos about byways dimensions.>A war with phasetech everywhereThat seems like a bad thing
