How do you feel about decks that win with non-deterministic engines? Like storm, for example. Sure there's a chance they can win if they start going off on turn 4, but there's a chance they fizzle too. It gets more likely the more turns of the game pass, typically.

traded my smothering tithe for an RKF enlightened tutor like a year ago and i'm pretty pissed to see tithe has gone up to 70 fucking bucks. I didn't think I really needed it in my sythis deck, which I don't, but it's still an absurdly good enchantment for 4 mana. >>98863405My opinion on card value is that you should never look at cards as assets that maintain value. Trading out often has CONSIDERABLE friction, when my daughter was born I sold all of my expensive cards and got like 800 bucks, sounds like a lot but after 15 years of playing its a pittance compared to what I spent on the game. I also ended up buying some of the cards backso back to the point, the value of cards should be their playability and collectability. You valued the RKF enlightened tutor more than [[generic value piece #17]] and the fickle price fluctuations of the market went against you, at the end of the day you got a card you wanted and that's really what matters. It's the other end of finding cards that are absurdly good but worthless, you will experience both. This is also why buying cards because of FOMO is a losing venture, but thats starting to go off on a tangent so ill leave it at that.
>>98863411*plays blood moon*
>>98863454>You valued the RKF enlightened tutor more than [[generic value piece #17]]You know, looking at it like this I'm not really all that mad about it. Never actually played against a mill deck ever, but I assure you I would be more than equipped to handle one.Tutors are not entirely for redundancy. Tutors let me get Rest in Peace if you're playing a graveyard deck, tutors let me get Stony Silence if you're playing with artifacts, tutors let me get Solemnity if you're playing with counters. And, of course, tutors let me get the best value pieces in my deck for the current situation as well, if that's what it calls for. And enlightened tutor lets me do this on the play before me's endstep so I have as much information on the situation as possible. I've got a sythis deck and the white enchantments in it are mostly the good hate effects that are a little too slow for Light Paws to play. I don't have a proper list of either online though, I like changing a few of the "fun" slots out a lot depending on how I'm feeling. I really should get a list up of them though it would make changing things easier.

>>98863672meh. fantastic inclusion in the 99, but the looting effect of baral is great and most of the noncreature spells you're casting are going to be instants or sorceries anyway. of course saint thalia gets a lot better if you fill your deck with 1 mana artifacts as well, but then you're building a fundamentally slightly different deck than baral at that point
>>98863661I tried this once with an izzet player and he built the most aids turboshit ever.
>>98863692based, honestly. good deckbuilders and players being forced into colors they dont usually play and finding a way to maximize what they do best is nice to see
>>98863695they aren't deckbuilding anon, they're just copying lists
>>98863688Personally my Baral shifted toward a labman/mill cantrip focused deck, and Baral's filtering didn't come into play a lot. I also think there's a psychological opportunity cost of slapping Baral on the table "ugh you're playing counterspell tribal", vs Geist being open ended. Of course if you're actually playing counterspell tribal it'll come up a lot more.
>>98863706>here's a psychological opportunity cost of slapping Baral on the table "ugh you're playing counterspell tribal"That's absolutely true, yeah. Especially true if playing against people you haven't played against before and/or if you're just bringing a new deck to the table. It's like playing a deck headed by Atraxa (either one), you're getting focused by people just by virtue of that alone no matter what your deck is actually doing, flying under the radar has it's perks.Saint Thalia is MUCH better if you're intending to play to the board and have value enchantments and artifacts instead of almost purely playing on the stack, but then that opens you up to being vulnerable to removal in ways baral isn't. You can still play lots of counterspells and counterspell effects with Thalia though, and I'm fairly certain using one or the other still makes the other an almost auto include in the 99 anyway. You'd probably be better off switching to Thalia in your case.
>>98863646>Friend plays a lot of control/stax decks>He makes a new deck that is a theft deck.>Of course tergrid is the commander>At one point in the game has gravepact and both braids and the new avacyn out at the same time.
>>98863725My biggest thing with playing Baral as a counterspell deck was "ok, how do I actually WIN?" I found cutting a lot of the more specialized counterspells and replacing them with things that allowed me to have a board presence helped out a lot there, but then you could argue at that point it became a cantrip deck vs a counterspell deck. So I guess I never wanted to play control and just liked casting cheap spells a lot. One thing I think is important is that interaction that isn't counterspells also doesn't trigger his filtering, and countering abilities doesn't. And a cheeky pongify and stifle are still worth including. Finally, pure filtering kinda gives me choice paralysis, especially if I draw something good. There's been times I just don't use it
How do you determine what is a reasonable casual commander deck? Casual being like bracket 3
>>98863701Then they’re a retard, force them to build their own deck and have them explain to you why they added each individual card and how they think it synergises or interacts with the rest of the deck. If they won’t do it banish them to precon hell.
>>98863758Defab is one of my favorites for something like Baral, essentially just a better Stifle with any reducer out because it's 1 mana too. Still often run actual factual Stifle too though.>ok, how do I actually WIN?i guess winning almost always requires some level of board presence, so you'd be vulnerable to removal anyway. Triskaidekaphile is a pretty funny one you could try winning with, not even that memey of a card to include when it's not winning you the game either as having no max hand size is a decent effect and drawing a card without spending a card in your hand is a welcome way to spend your mana if you didn't need to counter that cycle. And of course like you said, lab man works. Would be fun to include a cheeky brain freeze in your list too for the effort which I assume you do.The main problem with draw go control specifically is knowing when to cast your threats or go for a win, you need to find a window of opportunity and the puzzle is getting there by correctly assessing threats and spending your resources appropriately. It's kinda hard.
>>98863775pretty simple>does it lose to the decks you play against 75% of the time

It's overcosted, needs a good creature in yard and hand to get the full value, and would probably be better to run more instant speed removal like Baleful mastery in its place. I have a rules question.Assume i have this guy and also a card that doubles his triggered effect (i.e. Delney). If an opponent then chooses to tap his permanent in response to the first trigger, what happens with the second trigger? The permanent still "entered" untapped, but he now can't tap it again since it's already tapped by the first trigger resolving, does that mean the second trigger would guarantee me a token?
>>98864039https://moxfield.com/decks/4MBEwm4M-EKmTWV75pq7pQCards in sideboard are ones I still need to buy to finish the deck in paper
>>98864161from scryfall>If the permanent is tapped as the ability resolves, the opponent can't choose to tap it, so you'll create a Vampire token. Similarly, if it's no longer on the battlefield as the ability resolves, they can't choose to tap it, and you'll create a Vampire token.so yes

>>98865209for effects that tap permanents you can choose tapped permanents, yes. but if the effect requires a permanent to BECOME tapped, like in the case of this vampire chaff, then choosing an already tapped permanent doesn't work, because it doesn't BECOME tapped, it already is.

>>98864318Nah. If I'm worried about my creatures dying in combat I'll just use Iroas or something else that gives them indestructible. If I'm worried about them getting swept up in a board wipe I'll use Dawn's Truce or Clever Concealment. McCoy doesn't do nearly enough to warrant him in the 99 of a counter deck, even if you were blinking him.
>>98864100If you dont know a lick of trek (say for example you're a nip or chink) this can easily be an in-universe card in your head, which speaks to just how generic mtg's fantasy design is
>>98865320The Gay Bolas poster had a win by default because he wrote a fanfic that the story director liked and he ended up guest designing a card in MBC. >>98865402What do you think about my custom card?
>>98865409Only needs "as a sorcery" clause. 5 mana so 60-card constructed won't give a shit and no blue so you're missing 90% of easy untappers. Could use some clarification that the toughness refers back to creatures you sacrificed. Honestly could even trim down on colored pip count but it's w/e I get the flavor.
>>98865409Give her lifelink and trim the second ability to only as a sorcery like the other anon said and it's fineish i guess.turning big butts into high mana cost creatures is pretty unique i think. though of course you'd never put something like this guy in there, but still.
>>98865409custom card faggots are way too into hybrid mana. There's no reason for the mana cost except that you want your waifu to be even more super special. Only as a sorcery and only during your turn is redundant in this case and the once per turn limit is gay when she's tapping for it anyway. Let people do it multiple times if they're going far enough to spend cards on untap sources.
>>98865402>so much of the playerbase would rather bitch and whine than show how they would do it betterThe bare minimum wotc could do is make a fucking normal het ship like jace x lili so that the fanfic writers can go from there but the best they could get was a fucking scalie with an incest fetish

Lads, what's a decent precon I can buy to take to locals and help me learn the game? Ideally not UB unless the Final Fantasy ones are considered good.
>>98865812The recent Foundations precons could be a relatively safe bet for that. They've all got pretty straightforward game plans and should be good for figuring out the basics. The FF decks are solid overall, though I wouldn't suggest the FF10 one specifically if you're very new. There's a lot of tracking of counters that can really slow the game down if the player doesn't know what they're doing.

>>98865812DONT play modern pioneer or standard it makes mustard gas!in truth i dont know the proper place to start anymore, standard used to be it but it's such a fucking disaster at this point. draft is horrible to start with because it requires a lot of game knowledge you don't have, but once you know how the game works draft and sealed of sets that are good for draft and sealed are some of the best fun you can have. commander is not a good place to start. it's not the most complex format, but the scenarios that can appear in the game are the most common to perplex and confuse new players because of just the shear amount of things that go on.

I mean, I'm almost certain they'll find a way to print it for the other colors (white last, of course) and even worse they'll probably do it with UBshit, but you know. That's how it goes.
>his name is beast>he looks like a beast>but he's not actually a beastmaro wtf
>>98866876projecting today aren't we
>>98866895you wish those funkos were mere projections buddy boy
>>98865329I wonder what you intended to signal by abandoning the argument that mill won't leave your butthole stretched in favor of some fanfic about my big deck
>>98866899are these projections in the room with me right now, schizo-kun?
>>98866905You are dying long before you are able to assemble your 10 card combo in christmasland. And even if you weren't, you could spend 10 of your Bitter Ordeals (being generous here that you'll have that many) on my deck and I would feel next to nothing. Assuming you could even identify the 10 best cards in my deck, I'll still have more than enough auras to smash your face in after, of course if the other two people at the table don't see mill and have their eyes turn red with retard rage and kill you first, because mill has that effect on retards.
>>98866906the only thing to see in your room is that you lost.
>>98866926I don't look like say or do this
>>98866565thanks. avacyn was one I actually didnt put in for whatever reason. same as not putting in the new darksteel angel. I wanted to make the precon better but still have something in the bag for random tables with n00bs because I found even my "lower power" decks with no game changer cards were still over powering to them
>>98866929this has been debunked
>>98866565I wonder how good a Boros Avacyn deck could be in Bracket 3. She has a pretty solid statline on the flip and clears out blockers.
silly-posting hours already?

>>98866598is this a fitting reskin for Becca
>>98864318Not that art for him I won't. Maybe if his base art is ok
>>988661867 would be the easiest. It's just equipment and combat. Simple and direct. 6 is very good at can be really fucking easy to either go infinite or be annoying as hell depending on how you build it. 10 is good, but it's a lot of counter management and proliferating. That could be a lot to deal with starting out when every other card demands you whip out another dice and add up counters. If you already have it give the 7 precon a try.
>>98867011it is if you believe
Will this work how im thinking?
>>98866384It'll probably do it's thing ok against most casual decks. Forced sacrificing is pretty hard for them to get around and Kraven naturally helps keep your card drawn going. I liked the first decks inclusion of Ardyn but I can see why he was one of the many cards you cut. Not how I'd do Kraven, but I think it'll do what you want it to do. Have you gotten a chance to play it yet?
>>98867072what 99 land card deck is good with q?
>>98867078nigga answer the question
>>98867076just tested the new version in 10+ games against bots, biggest problems in testing are I have to discard down to 7 every turn and often have nothing to play if I've killed the board too much
>>98866323not having the card doesn't preclude other players from seeing you playing half the combo in the cz and responding accordinglyalso bg lifegain has been super pushed in the last year
The only potential UB I would unironically paypig and basedface for already has its own TCG that 5 people play so I am safe.
>>98867072No. The enchantment's trigger won't resolve until Q has resolved
>>98867088>I have to discard down to 7Then put in some unlimited hand size shit. Spellbook, reliquary tower, thought vessel, decanter of endless water etc.

>>98866976Just fyi brackets are less about powerlevel and more about deck philosophy They try to cap the turn you can win on sure, but that's such a blunt tool that it's hardly useful

>>98867351Gundam TCG (Bandai will kill it in 5 years and try again in 7)

Guys? My store still has Reality Fracture on the shelves. I don't think it's doing very well...
>>98867426In Asia maybe but in my neck of the woods it has 1 night at 1 LGS.Its also a Bandai game and at least the third Gundam tcg so zero chance it has longevity.>>98867598What should really concern you is that they launched Guntank in to space for a photo op. It is a purely grounded suit with no flight capabilities lol, shits just drifting
>be opponent>cast wrath of god>any reactions?>no>then, while holding priority, cast ghostwaythis is the average player of my lgs.
>>98867681That's how the chain works in YGO and it's better but unfortunately not MtG.
>>98867681Don't you have to ghostway first since prio starts with you then moves around?
>>98867649mine's been all out both weeks I visited. also wanted a card from the store binder and went home to get my trades only to find out someone had come and traded for it in the half an hour I was away in the middle of the week when everyone is at work
>>98867711yes but the average tard thinks priority is a magical word.
>>98867711Some people think it's "fair" to ask (bait) out responses before they play anything else.
>>98867681>Then, while holding priority...That's not how it works. Call a judge on that retard.
>>98867649they actually printed the correct amount >>98866983I had just finished converting my TOSKI mono green deck to green/white KWIA. missing several ideal cards but temporarily replaced some life gain trigger cards with landfall cards (like Heliod Sun Crowned for +1/+1 counters with Bjorn's Hospitalityironically I didnt realize there was an infinite with Walking Ballisa + Heliod and Ballista was randomly in the Toski deck because it had a bunch of the green cards from the FFX Tidus deck. Took that out though, need more room for SOUL SISTERS. still need to pick up a Stepsister of Runes though. (Step being much better because colorless can stop annoying Maze of Ith locks if you don't draw removal) >>98866186they need to include a full pack of cheesex die die for the FFX deck. but the cards are awesome I bought that deck in the spring for $60 and its actively used in 3 different decks. a lot of the +1 counter stuff is in this green/white deck now. the Cloud and Tifa one this one zoomer who plays with our revolving pod sometimes had a dominant win with the ff7 deck last weekend. He switched Tifa instead of Cloud as the general but added this silly MF'er from FFV (based representation that was sorely lacking from FFV) Gilgamesh. had a dominant, EXPLOSIVE win with this (pic rel). so definitely add this if you get the red green white ff7 deck. >>98866254one of the LGS' near me is giving out free packs of Avatar every $25 of singles you buy from them. I've gotten 2 free ones recently. sucky set>>98866429Daaaaack! is CEDH sloppa. path your own shit like a good slopper
>>98867691Chain blocking is bullshit, No it's not better
>>98867796Chain blocking wouldn't work with how MtG cards are worded. The only difference is your opponents respond before you can add to the chain.
>>98867830I assumed we were porting over the entire spirit of the system
>>98867839YGO had metas where chain blocking was functionally irrelevant it just depends on the cards being used.
What's some blue/black goodstuff for a Royal Kidnapper deck if I'm *not* going all in on stealing as many of my opponents creatures as possible, but just want to make a deck thats disruptive and annoying at a 4 person table? Winning is nice if it happens, but the real goal is to just make shit happen that screws with other people's plans in interesting ways.
how is this only a 75¢ card still? the discard cost is hardly a problem in commander. its a convenient way to get Anger or similar into the yard. plus you get a blocker on the board. Idyllic tutor (another non GC tutor) is 15 bucks comparatively. Enlightened Tutor is understand being able to get artifacts at instant speed..even Steelshapers Gift at $10 for equipment for W. but this is not even a dollar>find RIP>find sylvan library>find black market connex>find imprisoned in the moon>find propaganda>find seal of cleansing>find doubling season>find enchantment creatures
>>98868096all reality fracture prices over-crashed and will creep back up. i should scoop up a full playset
>>98867681you have to be, I don't know how to call it, "logic brained" to understand mtg. Not all people are like that
>>98867681maybe you should ask if they pass priority
>>98868126should I HODL on my Theorist Jace? He seems like he'll become an EDH staple for whatever blue splash there is
>>98867218That being a Bandaid card game would make me nervous in the long run.
>>98867796Chain blocking isn't even an issue. It's a chain managing skill check. Missed timings are and always will be more insufferable. Even if they're much more rare now a days.
>>98868258>Much moreMissing the timing has been irrelevant for so long they could probably just remove it and nothing would change.

>>98868096it's an unc that sees next to no play in other formats
>>98868209He's """"discount""" rhystic. He's good, but he's not going to be format warping.Hell start to fall off just like gleaming splendor did
>>98867662Maybe its a distribution problem but my LGS can't keep it stocked
>>98866877>the other colors don't really seem to have that sort of thing in their wheelhouse. It's definitely a White thing though. Making everything it's self was the whole mono white evil phyrexia thing.
So uh, how you guys doing
>>98868126interesting. I noticed that actually. one of the LGS I play at I stopped in and they now stocking RF cards in the trade binder (theres always like a 2+ week delay until prices "settle") and the foil alt art Kwia is only like 2 or 3 bucks more than the foil standard one I bought the week before. definitely some good stuff to scoop up while you can!>>98868293I mean commander is the only relevant format in magic right now. but this judge was looking for Dark Matter Manipulator for a legacy deck>>98868283>>98868328knew I pulled a Jace at pre-release>look in binder>its the 75¢ onewtf!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1111111>>98868496>pic relalthough I think now with Rosewater at the helm doing his damnest to do the least interesting things possible and take zero risks, this would be probably "outside muh color pie" even though Dick Garfield (PHD) designed all these cards to be great mechanically and flavor-ly
>>98866877It's also just kind of boring as far as design goes. The only really notable thing to come out of them is the Urborg+Coffers combo that retards keep jamming into 3c decks with no searchers for some reason.

Have you guys played 2 colors without fetchalnds? Is it like night and day?
>>98867790>this silly MF'er from FFVIf your buddy is a zoomer, it's likely he added Gilgamesh because he's a bonus boss in Rebirth.Anyway, I'll look into that. I bought a booster box of the set last year as well, so I'll sift through and see what I had there. Only big rares I recall are a Bahamut and Sephiroth.
