I'm honestly wondering if Sisko can be cedh viable as an alternative to Nick Fury. Doesn't immediately die to bowmasters and has abilities that might actually do something, even if it's just giving you bodies for cradle mana.

The issue I can see with slivers is people get really worried when all your slivers are buffing each other. It can make you into a target. I have a shit bracket 2 sliver deck that uses Iron to give other people slivers too. But I give them the ones that give the global buffs and keep the ones that give player only buffs for myself. It's playing the politics game instead.

How do you feel about decks that win with non-deterministic engines? Like storm, for example. Sure there's a chance they can win if they start going off on turn 4, but there's a chance they fizzle too. It gets more likely the more turns of the game pass, typically.

If I have to watch somebody combo off for 15 minutes only for them to not win, I'm going after them first in every game I play with them to save us all the trouble.
Non-deterministic combos aren't reasonable at lower power tables just because they are inconsistent, and at higher power tables they are just wasting time. Have some self respect and play a deck that actually works, for the benefit of everybody around you.

traded my smothering tithe for an RKF enlightened tutor like a year ago and i'm pretty pissed to see tithe has gone up to 70 fucking bucks. I didn't think I really needed it in my sythis deck, which I don't, but it's still an absurdly good enchantment for 4 mana. My opinion on card value is that you should never look at cards as assets that maintain value. Trading out often has CONSIDERABLE friction, when my daughter was born I sold all of my expensive cards and got like 800 bucks, sounds like a lot but after 15 years of playing its a pittance compared to what I spent on the game.
I also ended up buying some of the cards back
so back to the point, the value of cards should be their playability and collectability.
You valued the RKF enlightened tutor more than [[generic value piece #17]] and the fickle price fluctuations of the market went against you, at the end of the day you got a card you wanted and that's really what matters.
It's the other end of finding cards that are absurdly good but worthless, you will experience both.

This is also why buying cards because of FOMO is a losing venture, but thats starting to go off on a tangent so ill leave it at that.

You know, looking at it like this I'm not really all that mad about it. I mean I did look at it like this while making the post but I didn't really convey that at all really. Enlightened tutor is one of the few cards I prefer a newer printing to it's old border, and I'm glad I've got the rkf art and I'm really quite happy I got it from a trade with a friend, because that hardly ever happens anymore.

Amulet of Vigor in the command zone lets you do a lot of fun things. Look at amulet titan lists in modern for a few of them. There's a lot of redundant or overcosted or legacy cards that fit in that sort of shell too. Also any ramp spell that specifies you get lands tapped becomes absurd.
Also put Spelunking in the deck, good card and good redundancy.

>get raped by mill decks
Lol. Lmao even. Sure, put all my good cards in my graveyard, that's a good idea. Never actually played against a mill deck ever, but I assure you I would be more than equipped to handle one.
Tutors are not entirely for redundancy. Tutors let me get Rest in Peace if you're playing a graveyard deck, tutors let me get Stony Silence if you're playing with artifacts, tutors let me get Solemnity if you're playing with counters. And, of course, tutors let me get the best value pieces in my deck for the current situation as well, if that's what it calls for. And enlightened tutor lets me do this on the play before me's endstep so I have as much information on the situation as possible. It being card disadvantage is not as much of a problem when every enchantment draws me a card.

Speaking of that card, the FF legend I did settle on building a commander around was Choco, Seeker of Paradise, I run both Amulet to Vigor and Spelunking for the immediate mana advantage. It isn’t a very strong deck but it’s rather persistent with the protection and recursion. Also it’s my one and only landfall deck, most players should only have one landfall deck at most as it’s the most braindead easy archetype to build around.

I do own a Light-Paws deck, but I'm not entirely sure that fits what you're thinking of here. I've got a sythis deck and the white enchantments in it are mostly the good hate effects that are a little too slow for Light Paws to play. I don't have a proper list of either online though, I like changing a few of the "fun" slots out a lot depending on how I'm feeling. I really should get a list up of them though it would make changing things easier.

meh. fantastic inclusion in the 99, but the looting effect of baral is great and most of the noncreature spells you're casting are going to be instants or sorceries anyway. of course saint thalia gets a lot better if you fill your deck with 1 mana artifacts as well, but then you're building a fundamentally slightly different deck than baral at that point
>>
>>98863661
I tried this once with an izzet player and he built the most aids turboshit ever.

>>
>>98863688
Personally my Baral shifted toward a labman/mill cantrip focused deck, and Baral's filtering didn't come into play a lot. I also think there's a psychological opportunity cost of slapping Baral on the table "ugh you're playing counterspell tribal", vs Geist being open ended.
Of course if you're actually playing counterspell tribal it'll come up a lot more.
>>
>>98863706
>here's a psychological opportunity cost of slapping Baral on the table "ugh you're playing counterspell tribal"
That's absolutely true, yeah. Especially true if playing against people you haven't played against before and/or if you're just bringing a new deck to the table. It's like playing a deck headed by Atraxa (either one), you're getting focused by people just by virtue of that alone no matter what your deck is actually doing, flying under the radar has it's perks.
Saint Thalia is MUCH better if you're intending to play to the board and have value enchantments and artifacts instead of almost purely playing on the stack, but then that opens you up to being vulnerable to removal in ways baral isn't. You can still play lots of counterspells and counterspell effects with Thalia though, and I'm fairly certain using one or the other still makes the other an almost auto include in the 99 anyway. You'd probably be better off switching to Thalia in your case.

My biggest thing with playing Baral as a counterspell deck was "ok, how do I actually WIN?" I found cutting a lot of the more specialized counterspells and replacing them with things that allowed me to have a board presence helped out a lot there, but then you could argue at that point it became a cantrip deck vs a counterspell deck. So I guess I never wanted to play control and just liked casting cheap spells a lot.
One thing I think is important is that interaction that isn't counterspells also doesn't trigger his filtering, and countering abilities doesn't. And a cheeky pongify and stifle are still worth including. Finally, pure filtering kinda gives me choice paralysis, especially if I draw something good. There's been times I just don't use it
>>
How do you determine what is a reasonable casual commander deck? Casual being like bracket 3
>>
>>98863701
Then they’re a retard, force them to build their own deck and have them explain to you why they added each individual card and how they think it synergises or interacts with the rest of the deck. If they won’t do it banish them to precon hell.

Defab is one of my favorites for something like Baral, essentially just a better Stifle with any reducer out because it's 1 mana too. Still often run actual factual Stifle too though.
>ok, how do I actually WIN?
i guess winning almost always requires some level of board presence, so you'd be vulnerable to removal anyway. Triskaidekaphile is a pretty funny one you could try winning with, not even that memey of a card to include when it's not winning you the game either as having no max hand size is a decent effect and drawing a card without spending a card in your hand is a welcome way to spend your mana if you didn't need to counter that cycle. And of course like you said, lab man works. Would be fun to include a cheeky brain freeze in your list too for the effort which I assume you do.
The main problem with draw go control specifically is knowing when to cast your threats or go for a win, you need to find a window of opportunity and the puzzle is getting there by correctly assessing threats and spending your resources appropriately. It's kinda hard.

yeah no entomb is deliberate, not really avoiding tutors but I wanted to try ones you might see less often, like Oriq loremage

I have a rules question.
Assume i have this guy and also a card that doubles his triggered effect (i.e. Delney).
If an opponent then chooses to tap his permanent in response to the first trigger, what happens with the second trigger?
The permanent still "entered" untapped, but he now can't tap it again since it's already tapped by the first trigger resolving, does that mean the second trigger would guarantee me a token?

People went crazy for avatar. It feels like it could actually be a plane in the game and has some uhh...let's say chase mythics. The bending powers were all relatively cool. It was a good set peak millenials have nostalgia for.

I'm happy to be building a landfall deck where I can feel like I'm not missing out on anything by not including this thing. All it would really do for me is let me fire a fetch twice or a wasteland twice, which is fine I guess but otherwise not very impactful. Animating lands isn't my plan and I don't have any mana dorks

It's not so bad if you can always play him on turn 3.
Otherwise, he better be threatening to win you the game if he's in play for a turn cycle or two. Either with extreme value or just outright winning.
otherwise otherwise.... 4 mana do nothing is a totally acceptable play in brackets 2 and 3. plenty of fun to be had there.

I agree
Just spent the last 3 weeks with this duel commander list on mtgo
https://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/mtgo-duel-commander/
The only bad part is, aside from the prohibitive paper price, it doesn't scale THAT well to 4 players, you can obviously go aetherflux it just kinda fucks with your storm turn, not having the flashback on brainfreeze
>>
>>98866429
LED and Manavault and Mycosynth Gardens are pretty good substitutes thobeit
>>
>>98866444
>the prohibitive paper price
It's bullshit that TCG's are allowed to flagrantly violate gambling age laws in the western world, they should be required to have their own print on demand services.
I whole-heartedly support the idea of replacing "official" with custom printed cards exclusively because price should not be a limitation on the game for anyone.
>>
>>98866452
then go play cedh where everyone plays the statistically best cards with no worry over price

lol without candelabra and intuition this deck is pretty cheap actually as far as i can see, and the deck absolutely doesn't need candelabra to do it's thing there's enough untappers otherwise. could even skimp out on the fetches if you really wanted to and only lose some brainstorm value. you could probably find success with this in 4 player games you'd just have to be more worried about removal

2. lyra archangel of dawn (new Lyra)
3. path to exile
4. wrath of god
5. Archaeomancer's map
6.generous gift
7. tithe (land toot from Visions)
8. Pearl Medallion
9. Emeria the Sky Ruin
10. Radiant Archangel (pic rel)
11. Serra the benevolent (PW)
12. forsake the worldly (instant exile art. or enc., cycling)
13. ornithopter of paradise
14. Four Knocks (Dr who white Phyrexian Arena)
15. Flare of Fortitude
16. Troop of Ponies
17. Island Sanctuary (considered Magus of the Moat but put him in new Kwia deck instead)
18. Crusade (5th edition ver., anthem from Alpha)
19. Final judgement (exile wrath)
20. gold myr

also changed out some arts like Marble Diamond to 6th edition and Sunblast Angel to foil Scars of Mirrodin version that came with that precon in 2010. and a bunch of lands obviously (who tf would have the same 2 lands in their deck????!)

I cant remember. anything not good that didnt make clue tokens. most of the 3 cost mana rocks. some of the high cost do-nothing angels. OG wrath replaced DOJ. any sorcery removal was replaced with instant, or removal that is conditional (like power 4 or greater for path of exile). Final Judgment replaced Austere command. Arkenstone and Crusade replaced 2 of the other banners. the enchantment that gives the same thing as one of the angels (+1/+1 and vigilance) was cut. no plains were cut I don't think.

7 would be the easiest. It's just equipment and combat. Simple and direct. 6 is very good at can be really fucking easy to either go infinite or be annoying as hell depending on how you build it. 10 is good, but it's a lot of counter management and proliferating. That could be a lot to deal with starting out when every other card demands you whip out another dice and add up counters. If you already have it give the 7 precon a try.

ironically I didnt realize there was an infinite with Walking Ballisa + Heliod and Ballista was randomly in the Toski deck because it had a bunch of the green cards from the FFX Tidus deck. Took that out though, need more room for SOUL SISTERS. still need to pick up a Stepsister of Runes though. they need to include a full pack of cheesex die die for the FFX deck. but the cards are awesome I bought that deck in the spring for $60 and its actively used in 3 different decks. a lot of the +1 counter stuff is in this green/white deck now.

the Cloud and Tifa one this one zoomer who plays with our revolving pod sometimes had a dominant win with the ff7 deck last weekend. He switched Tifa instead of Cloud as the general but added this silly MF'er from FFV (based representation that was sorely lacking from FFV) Gilgamesh. had a dominant, EXPLOSIVE win with this (pic rel). so definitely add this if you get the red green white ff7 deck.
