Fab was created to be different than its competitors, but all the changes they have made in the last year plus has made them just as bad if not worse than the rest. What killed fab? It lost itself along the way. When the fans noticed and cried out for change, James just doubled down. I can never return to the game now. It's a bloated unfun hyper sweaty mess now, and they made the pack opening experience significantly worse while assuring us it's actually better. No more fables, no more list slot, no more marvels, no more than one rare in a pack; tremendously stupid product that they charge more for now.
They are forcing participation to get the same things found in old sets. Being a local player ever week is not satisfactory for LSS. You now have to travel often and buy expensive event packages to flesh out your collection. This is anti player and pro consumer bullshit. Fab is sick of being the people's game, they want the fat bucks now.

There's a fucking ton of unique mechanics that exist on rares or higher, largely effects that heroes need to make their strategy work. Rares and higher are the bookends of your strategy while commons make up the backbone in-between. So fewer rares means commons must also be powercrept in order to make heroes function at all. This exact reason is why Sage exists; an all common format is the single worst fab experience you can have. So how is it that you get less cards to build with rare or higher in any given sealed or draft pool, that LSS claims this makes decks more unique and have much more meaningful decisions? It doesn't, you're all having smoke blown up your asses that this is a good thing. They're stripping all the value out of packs while poisoning limited and you are clapping for it.
This hobby and largely this thread is completely brainrotted, no small part by investorhoes and boot-throater cultists. I shan't be returning.

However, they also let you start amassing cheer, Staple supports, and Suisei and Raden both have a new card that's useful for respective decks though 99% of the time you're going to be seeing that Suisei supporter in Gigi decks. If you just want to hop in with a strong deck right now, buy a Yellow Koyori deck. Base rarity Holoka is already pretty cheap but the Summer set is somehow even easier on the wallet. Back to the Start Decks, I recommend picking one up at an LGS when a start deck event is going on. You'll get promos for participating.

Some series are doomed to remain bad or non-competitive for a long time because support is distributed by anime series rather than more evenly across the game. While it's decent, it's never been competitive, and it was pretty much the only good deck/color from the first set (out of 5 colors). The second set only came out a year later, and while it improved things overall for the series, the decks still doesn't measure up to what's currently meta.
