If capri is your new FOTM fixation the answer is you can't really replicate her glitchy, unreal effect without the model itself doing the heavy lifting. My best recommendation for minimal greenstuffing/kitbashing would be grabbing Necrons and painting them in Kang Tao colors and painting all your ctan in Capri colors with bright, fluorescent paints. You could even go one step further and give any model in partial-phaseout red lightning and pink/green cubes to further nail home the connection.

But really, you're better off going with Infinity if you wanna paint cyberpunk stuff.

I think my problem with the Astartes power fantasy is that they’re just infantry. Super powerful infantry, but infantry none the less.

What can a space marine do when confronted with a Knight? What can a space marine do when being straffed by eldar aircraft? This is why the power fantasy doesn’t make sense to me.

>What can a space marine do when confronted with a Knight?
"Soul Hunter" and "Storm of Iron" both have Marines taking out Titans, so a Knight is totally within reason.
>>
>>98861050

I agree with and understand to a point. Part of the power fantasy with Marines, for me anyways (I don't own a single SM model btw), is that they *should be* so resourceful, quick witted, and prepared, that even in such situations they are able to achieve some sort of tangible results beyond what you could expect. They are a small part of the legendary ubermensch of old. A single marine, to clarify, the RIGHT marine, should be able to conquer worlds. They're supposed to be hypno-conditioned and trained with various tactical and strategic knowledge, beyond what any one regular human can accomplish in their lifetime. I think the book Elemental Council attempts to restore some of that magic to Marines, but it also shows their tragedy that I also enjoy. They're supposed to be these much more capable beings, but the current Imperium, and SM themselves, has neutered most of them to be nothing more than basic bitch bolter marines incapable of thoughts outside a narrow lane which they are indoctrinated and allowed. Purposely and unconsciously they diminish themselves. I like how OG, 10,000y/o CSM constantly lament the state of the current Imperial Space Marines and even their own "thin bloods" (CSM turned from current SM).
>>
>>98861050
Wasn't there some titan or knight quote about not underestimating infantry cause they'll fuck you up
>>
>>98861050
You do know that lots of Space Marine chapters use armoured fighting vehicles like Vindicators and Gladiator Lancers right? They also use fighter aircraft like Stormravens. Every Space Marine chapter is a self-contained army with their own ships/tanks/other vehicles, not just 1000 super soldiers who act only as infantry. They have ways to fight against Chaos Knights and Xenos aircrafts
>>
>>98861123

I think this happened in Titanicus the book, a Titan got surrounded by mere infantry only to get itself into a very dire situation as the infantry was able to literally pin down the knight and almost disable it.

Buying recasts vs buying a printer?

A whole recast army of like 2500ish points costs like 1K USD from the best Russian casters (I won't use chinamen anymore)., while for that money I can get a nice print set up with a tent and vent. At that point I can print whole armies for giga cheap but I just know it'll eat up hours and hours of time before I have shit dialed in.

It's really solid despite being expensive points wise. Also seems CP hungry. Taurox being T8 right now is not great. Everyone is packing a plethora of high S weapons to deal with the terminator menace and T8-T9 are very common profiles, along with S10. The really big problem is that its a 2DP detachment that really only has power in that one combo, and it's only able to pair up with the other Scions detachment cause the other 1DP detachments are DOGSHIT. It's a bit of a one trick pony.

LGS bought a couple of the pre-painted battlefields to use for store terrain. I have some thoughts.
>the paintjob isn't great compared to actually painting the terrain, but it reads well enough on the table.
>it's pushfit and they say it doesn't need glue, but you probably want glue
>the paint is applied to the sprue, which is black plastic; this means it's applied over moldlines and gates. The black plastic helps a bit but if you want to clean this up, you have to scrape off paint. Seems self defeating
>you kind of get enough instructions to build it. the box is separated into two smaller boxes inside, which contain the sprues. the instructions are printed out on that. they're shortened versions of the instructions from the unpainted terrain though, and one building has different build options with extra bits that aren't mentioned on the abbreviated instructions.
>if you build the one terrain piece how it's prescribed in these abbreviated instructions, a giant plasma battery and a terminal with servitor is held together with one couple millimileter thick cable. don't fucking build it like that
>it comes with a set of the cardboard templates, and four cardboard foldout mats. The templates are the same ones that you get in the little package, but they're not punched out yet; I think this means that some guy in Nottingham's job is to punch these out of cardboard sheets and put them into the sleeves. If you wanted these and are having trouble getting them, or if your store had low allocations, this is why
>the cardboard mat is in four pieces, which do not tesselate
All in all I don't recommend this. You'd be much better served with the unpainted terrain, a couple of rattlecans, cardstock templates, and a roll of felt

Designation Force is very good, but you are correct on a lack of good pairings for the guard 1DP detachments as a whole. Mechanised Assault is probably the worst offender on that front, but the rest aren't much better either if you want to play "traditional" guard.

Abhuman Auxiliaries is literally only useful if you run Bullgryn spam because you only get 3 Commissars
Bridgehead Strike is literally only useful if you run Scions (or a pity amount for Kasrkin but not enough to be worth the DP)
Designation Force is 3x heavy flamer scout sentinels with Infiltrators to either spot for artillery or act as overwatch to funnel your enemy around the map on turn 1

microset on the front and back of the decal to loosen it from the sheet.
Slide it gently from sheet to surface with a soft brush. Be wary of bubbles.
Microsol over the decal once it is applied to dissolve it onto the surface.

Old one is one of the best infantry kits ever put in the game. New boyz are a little weedy but the sculpts look nice and have character. The problems I have with the new kits are shared by this whole era of cad efficiency split body sprue design, but they do better than a lot.
9th Boyz kit sucks as a kit but the models look fine. Small arms though

It's a great general-purpose punctuation mark that you can put almost wherever you want, which is probably a major contributor to why AI ends up using it so much.

This is not an abrupt change of thought and a comma would have sufficed. AI has truly fried your brain and you're scrambling to pick up the pieces.

Holy shit the onslought box might genuinely be the greatest deal ever. I was only focused on how much cheaper it is than the regular kit in real life dollars, but it's also incredibly points-dense with a third of it being HQs, with a 7 to 1 points to dollars ratio.

>I have no mouth and I must consoom
>>
>>98861855
"You've got a negative attitude, that's what's holding you back" is plainly wrong; a comma is too weak for that interruption in the flow of the sentence, the clauses aren't independent so a semicolon would be incorrect, and a period is right out for basically the same reason. You're grasping at straws to find an excuse to be mad at a punctuation mark.

I don't mind the sanguinary guard but why do they keep saying shit like
>AND

Those are just normal dreads and assault troops painted black with a gubbin here and there, they have to realize people aren't stupid and can see them giving ultramarines the victrix guys or space wolves and their headtakers and then for blood angels are like "here's an upgrade sprue, keep the change :)".
>>
>here bangles have 10 infantry models with one of them being straight up illegal in tournament play.
>meanwhile space wolves get FIFTHEEN FUCKING TERMINATORS with Logan and Arjac.

Least the generic marine box is also pretty gud. but like did the battlebox designers just not talk to each other?
>>

>>
>>98861917
Well I guess there is COPE for Bangles players that the engoodening of the primaris range might actually happen.
>>
>>98861909
BA just got mega-fucked by primarishit. The only BA-specific models now are special characters, sanguinary guard and the baal predator but they "had" to put out a BA box because they put them on the edition launch box because they wanted to nostalgiabait.
>>
>>98861884
>Started orks this edition with Armageddon + a 9ED Combat Patrol I found on the cheap
>Also got the new Boyz kit, a Mek, a second Big Mek Dakkarig before the secondary market prices skyrocketed, and some Killa Kans to go with the first Deff Dread
>New Ork Battleforce would be the perfect complement to what I have already and would let me go all in on Green Tide/Dread Mob/Blitz Brigade

But then they had to go and throw in the ugly-ass Meganobz in the box instead along with the lame Push-Fit Warboss in Mega Armor I already have one of. If it had a squad of Killa Kans instead of the Meganobs or the new Warboss instead of the pushfit one the box would've been perfect in my eye. Still gonna try getting one, since even at the newer ~$270 price batleforces are these days you're basically getting the Battlewagon for free

>You've got a negative attitude, that's what's holding you back
Yeah I don't see an issue with it, you are genuinely an autist if you think a comma doesn't work there. So what is it, you're such a sperg you have em dash on clipboard ready to use overly zealously because you think commas aren't good enough, or you used AI to write a two sentence personal post?
>>
>>98861952
Yeah you can and it even has a bit for it but it'll look significantly worse because the receiver of the gun isn't near big enough
>>
>>98861967
Are you building eradicators?
If you have one normal box and two pushfit squads you can build the three normal ones with the heavy melta variant that has pipes connecting the gun to the backpack, stick additional barrels onto those and use them as multimeltas in the other squads.
>>
>>98861919
I feel like it’s gonna be a long while. The well received Space Wolves, Ultramarines, and Dark Angels refresh came out in the same edition they bent the BA over table and fucked them.

Well yes, it is ludicrous. That's the point, but it is also ludicrous to memorise the alt code for these characters nobody naturally uses. That's why people, normal people, just use a fucking comma. This is a lot of sperging out on your behalf here, you need to understand. Either that or you're putting way too much effort into trying to disguise sloppy AI usage, either way it's not a good look for you.

Has to be Blood Angels, at least in terms of going from great to shit. They got a couple passable character sculpts in Dante, Meph and Astorath but that's really it. Sanguinor could be worse but he's small and hasn't been playable in a while. Lemartes got a dogshit pose and has a ballgag. Sanguinary Guard are OG Sigmarine tier. Their DC units got wiped out with only a couple pieces on an overpriced upgrade sprue. Their unique dread got squatted, the other given to everybody. Their sang priest is almost indistinguishable from regular apothecaries. Their unique captain doesn't come with a jumpack and has a dogshit pose for adding one and minimal flair. Their unique chaplain got the Furioso treatment with Armageddon. Their unique predator is almost certainly going to get the Furioso treatment when those get released. They have no real unique unit kit to speak of outside of the Sang Guard which sits just above fucking Coteaz in unpopularity of the sculpt.

So they lost three pretty well loved characters, three unique dreads, their great standard infantry kit, their DC kits and their terminators. The sculpts for Lemartes, the Sanguinary Guard and the Sang Priest are all varying levels of shit. The only redeeming quality is their top character models aren't bad but they're not making up for the rest of it.

For the rest of the list EC got a good refresh but need more fleshing out. DE and GK need refreshes that they'll eventually get which may or may not be good. Their raped status is pending. Agents exists just as a repository for random Imperial units GW feels like making and has never really been a real army. I don't care about daemons as a faction and can't comment. BA got it the worst because there's no real room for redemption, for all the others there's still at least hope. At best GW will throw them an actual Death Company kit. Otherwise everything is only a few years old so it won't get touched for another six to eight at least. They're fucked.

The 3rd ed codex suggested flat colours for ceramics necrons.
Some other ideas if you don't take things too seriously.
A necron decided he wanted a blue legion. (or whatever non-metallic flat colour) So he had his legion painted and over time the paint chips off.
There are psychoses that make them want to dress in skin to feel more alive. There could also be a variation where they want to feel more like a machine, so they paint up like old vehicles with chipped paint.
They're allied with orks and let the meks do their paint jobs.

I didn't answer the first post that brought this up because I have no personal experience with the alternate rules etc in the OP, but from what I understand all of the games that try to replace a GW product have their problems. The one page one is just too basic, no sovl and it's usually a similar case, James does have teams of people working on their shit after all. It's never particularly good when you want to be "X but better/simpler", the best games I've found are completely different to anything else, trying to do their own thing and just so happen to be good.

Have you noticed with these stories of woman at LGS', telling of their bad treatment, that the writers are ALWAYS absolute legends at the game and have been playing since the first release? No I haven't because I don't read reddit or play magic the gathering.

Combat Patrol is a separate mini-game and they are supposed to be balanced between eachother, more or less. Battle force is anything goes, usually more points/models in them too and they're meant to be as a starting point/supplement for a proper 40k army.
>>
>>98862421
Combat patrols used to be called start collecting which used to be called battleforces which used to be good faction starters. Now battleforces are limited sale boxes that aren't combat patrols and aren't good faction starters. Hope that clears it up.

Combat patrol is a slightly bigger successor to start collecting boxes, in theory they're supposed to be like starter sets for each faction.
Battleforce boxes used to be bigger "good deal" boxes GW releases each year for Christmas. For the last few years they release them seemingly randomly whenever they feel like.

So you want to lower the saturation? Look up the color of the cape on a color wheel, then mix in the color that's opposite of it. This will drop the saturation without changing the hue (too much).
>>
>>98862457
I like mixing regiments, that is good diversity. I don't like dilluting identities, that is not diversity.

Food analogy for drooling retards:
if I eat apples, pears, oranges, bananas and pineapples, I eat a diverse range of fruits.
If I mix them all in a fruit salad, where all the taste and texture mix and soften into each other, then it's not diverse, it's one unified taste.
I'd technically be eating the same and be in great health, but i'd be missing out on the unique attributes of each fruits.
Both are great, but if everything is always in fruit salads it'll become extremely dull.

That's part of why 40k is dark space fantasy with space racism, because it allows for the unique "tastes and textures" to be exaggerated, rather than melt into each other.

Now let's be honest, you're just shitposting.

I'd have them masked and have this mix of religious/gestappo look. Very secretive and similar looking, main color would be black, maybe with red accent. Either you know the meaning or you don't, the inquisitorial hierarchy decides who knows what.

GW launching a paint line where the colors are broken up into pentads, and they're even more expensive. Supposedly covers better, and they did (still doing?) a free mini promo with it that extended to any LGS supplying it. Nothing like metallics or contrast paints of its own in the range.

GSC kinda fit that role to a point
99.9% of the skill involved with GSC lies in figuring how the army/combos actually work and how to position with your pieces, once you have the faction fundamentals down there isn't really much else to learn, the gameplay is pretty formulaic unless you're going for some weird spice
>>
>>98862867
All T3 armies kind of fall under the "hard to learn, but easy to master" blanket right now. There's a lot of up front learning about how to play low durability armies but beyond that you actually have reliable tools that just do the thing and aren't necessarily complicated to use. Lots of memorization, not as much decision making. Sisters and Dark Eldar might be the exception.

Reposting from the dead HH general:

As I understand it, all of the equipment used by the Astartes in WH40K are derivatives of a more glorious age: Indomitus was considered the cheaper compromise to churn out Terminator armor faster, MKVII was the standardized set that was cross-compatible with many older pieces of equipment, etc.
The Forge Worlds that create power armor and armaments for the Astartes are forbidden from inventing new things, as innovation is considered to bring ruination and is framed as tech-heresy.

Then GW realized that they painted themselves in a corner and retconned this with the appearance of Belisarius Cawl, a tech-priest who brought a bunch of new and improved designs for their tech including upgraded Astartes, all of which we round up to simply calling primaris for the sake of simplicity.

40K is no longer about resting on the laurels of the past but suddenly shifted into "Hey, new things can exist for the popular faction too!" which struck a lot of older fans as disingenuous at best and creatively bankrupt at worst.

Having said all this, barring all of the primaris kits (obviously) and MKVII armor since it was rolled out just before the Siege of Terra for the Imperial Fists, is there any tech in 40K that would not fit into Horus Heresy? I'm talking things like bolters, equipment doodads, the design of vehicles, and so on.
>>
>>98863173
I'm not gonna look up US prices but they haven't done an eldar box in forever, so just chuck some random units and a wraithlord in and it'll sell.
>>
Are Kroot a cool army or are they ruined by their association with Tau?

Corsair box.
>>
>>98863313
Kroot are cooler for having reasonable interactions with other factions.
I they weren't lumped with the tau chances are that they would have gotten the stock standard characterisation factions get
>we hate everyone and everything and will fight whatever on sight just because

instead by having to link them to the tau they had to get their mercenary background, and with that came the excuse for being a mercenary (looking for meals to improve themselves) and the logical result of them also working for races other than the tau, which all add up to make them cool.

>Commissars get Take Aim
Read the rule again. Commissars can *only* give it to abhuman units (Ogryns, Ratlings, Bullgryn). They can't give the order to normal guardsmen, just the abhuman tag units. Not very useful, as Ratlings have infiltrators (and thus are out of range), Bullgryns are a melee unit, and Ogryn have shit guns.

It's pretty funny seeing all these hobby channels suddenly think they grasp markets but seem to have no context for the fact that the whole market outside a handful of AI stocks is shitting itself, and GW's own stock price is still trading in a range it established less than 12 months ago. The company pays a solid dividend, maintains extraordinary net margins, and has a PE ratio that is respectable and does not price-in massive growth. That's not a bubble, that's a good business with proven profitability.

Balance Matrix: 7
External balance is the strongest of any edition. Internal balance stays weak with many units left unviable.
Rules Clarity and Cognitive Load: 5
Core rules are cleaner, but unit abilities, leaders, detachments, and stratagems still create high memory load and frequent rule checks.
Decision Density and Depth: 5
Positioning and scoring matter, but most players say the game offers less strategic variety than prior editions.
Pace and Engagement: 6
Experienced players finish 2000-point games in 2–3 hours. Opponent downtime and ability resolution still slow most games.
Agency and Interactivity: 5
I-go-you-go limits reactions. Overwatch adds some interaction but is often called unfun. High lethality removes units before decisions matter.
Army Construction and Differentiation: 4
List building is fast but shallow. Free wargear and reduced customization make factions feel more similar.
Spatial and Board-State Quality: 5
Competitive games rely on dense ruins. Terrain rules are simple but repetitive with limited spatial decisions outside tournament layouts.
Robustness and Stability: 5
The game functions but needs frequent dataslates and points changes. Constant updates make stable play difficult for casual players.
Overall: Mid, maybe like a 6

I finally got to play the first game of 11th edition with my friend. I won on points after ignoring his two terminator with character units and picking his other stuff out.

This is just a RAW vs RAI argument then
Do we assume GW is retarded and wrote it wrong, or do we assume GW meant to let the abhuman detachment make Commissars worth using on non-abhuman units

Either way I've never played it as "Commissar can order guardsmen" because no one I've ever played with has ever played rules as written, instead preferring rules as intended.
